your fair share of long gaming sessions where you just one more turn yourself all the way to Dawn and now it's bedtime and the sun's out and burning away your poor sensitive gamer eyes meant to sleep cute innocent squirrel being confronted with death an exact parallel to what our character just went through but that q discovered was clearly a Porky Porky just like poor kid games I'm a little late to The Wizarding World side of gaming each of these games transports us to a new experience of this IP it's a great name for the label sir those ruins do you think he was meant to lead us there I do oh heck yeah our character doesn't just wash away all the aspects of the older wiser characters just to make us feel more powerful and look better an increasing issue with games and movies something that had to remain intact with teachers being vital to our further understanding of magic in this world but magic is no different than any power what really matters is the one who wields it fig already dropping some wisdom bombs on us for those not in the know the reveal that this Goblin is in fact the size of a goblin is fun could have been hiding anything behind that desk vote number 12 I is needed and keep your hands inside the cart if you don't wish to lose them that little giggle definitely has happened before is it practical in a waste of resources absolutely but if I'm making a Hogwarts pay the Moonlight gives an even more mystical quality a damned Avalanche rip it straight from how we remember it from all other media it's truly breathtaking what Harry Potter fans have been wanting for years the symbol of ancient magic is woven into the W of Hogwarts it's the center of the world Hogwarts is the Basin for all ancient Magic and was crafted using it and the Hogwarts is the center of this world you come here with preferences and preconceptions certain expectations Avalanche talking directly to player about our relationship with the game was I hoping for a Pottermore like series of questions to determine our house for sure but most of us came in this knowing which house we want to be in and Avalanche doesn't waste our time and lets us choose because it's pretty obvious which house of the each of these belongs to is its ambition I may seem single-minded but it is important to go after what you want from life and that's why Slytherin is the best house if you can fight down in the comments about it I want all of you to be unnecessarily angry about why your house is the best one down below slytherins are misunderstood and we all mean well but have always had our energies focused somewhere else by an outside force and then where to plan for it let me ask you would you rather have a Gryffindor who will take a bullet for you because they're Brave or a Slytherin who would have shot first ah quick incentive by Future Bud celebrating our sorting due to the unfortunate injury on the pitch in last Spring's final this year's quidditch season has been canceled perfect lamp shading for why this gay doesn't have quidditch with how much Avalanche had built up for this game I understand and I am crossing my fingers for a future quidditch DLC kind of like the old expansion packs for the old Harry Potter PC games I'm sure you will have plenty to do before classes begin tomorrow Hogwarts does a really really great job at immersing those in this world I really did get that giddy feeling I'd get back when I was in grade school about the first day seeing everyone again hearing the stories from the summer figuring who I was going to sit with at lunch and which classes I was going to take I'm ominous ominous well his eyes are both so if I'm not mistaken Weasley gave this to pecker my character with all its Pages intact only for it to go sickle mode and place its Pages all over the world as a test for pecker perfect opportunity to show you how to use blue flames to get around a bit quicker just make sure you clearly pronounce where you're going I have dreams of a VR version of this game that uses your mic so you have to speak the name of where you like to go or your spells and if you say it wrong they just get transported to someone new and it's like Elder ring when you get transported to Caleb from the agil ruins the recreation of Hogwarts is absolutely breathtaking if there was one thing Avalanche had to get right it was the castle and boy did they from all the little secrets you can find to the references ghosts flying around the castle feels truly alive it feels more alive than most of our NPCs in the game which is why I said the castle is the main character of Hogwarts Legacy when you look at the actual stories told here and the things to do in the gameplay since Hogwarts Legacy really isn't ocean wide but a puddle deep it is carried 100 by the setting in the art design and I say for this first outing that's completely fine it's been a long time since we've had a proper Harry Potter game for Avalanche to combat Swinging with this version of Hogwarts I'm feeling optimistic about the future of this franchise the main story really is a snore and the most interesting bit we get a Sebastian story but walking around Hogwarts you can really just get lost in here every broom and Tower you see from the outside you can actually get to on the inside I would say the size is a one-to-one match in and out but this is Magic we're talking about we know Hogwarts is bigger than it appears which is even better there's never a boring thing to look at in the castle whether it's the moving paintings a violent sounding without a player two ghosts chasing each other or running up the staircase and it feels like it's gonna stop appearing at any moment I understand those who wanted a bully type game with the whole Focus being on the school and I kind of want that too with the potential this Castle has but I digress the castle is still breathtaking let's not forget that the central Hall gives big Central Station Vibes or better yet as Weasley put it ah Kings Cross station so to speak you seem to have provided our new 50 I was a solid foundation in the basics of spell casting ah I'm afraid I can't take all the credit there I freaking love fake a model of humility he is the map is Enchanted to help you find your way Avalanche has easy making just about all the gaming elements be diegetic to the story because magic and you all know I love when that's the case in my games [Music] Hogwarts is real lucky that Muggles have nothing to do with this Castle I assure you that it's not HSE certified you may be asking yourself how an old woman like me single-handedly took out the largest culturing in eastern Wales and lived to boast about it hecka is the last person we expect to teach defense against the dark arts class but you know what they say I respect the elders in a job or the young fizzle outer something like that especially with how the teachers in the books and films rotate out faster than Dumbledore asking Harry calmly about the Goblet of Fire first time I saw these suits of arm removed I straight up got jump scared by them I hope I'm not alone on that and when it comes to the classrooms it's just about everything with Hogwarts it all looks ripped straight from the films just as the outside of the castle was I could hear her mind in my head chastising Ron about proper pronunciation at the sheer look at this room even if it's not one for one this does take place 100 years before Harry Potter and it is in a living Castle after all but the bones are still there Shall We Begin welcome to year five of Champs now a detail I love among all the teachers and even extended Beyond them in some cases is their costume design synonymous with their assumed cultures they hail from Magic genes can be found in anyone anywhere in the world and throughout Hogwarts Legacy this is on Full display and stride Hogwarts really is a Melting Pot of all sorts of different people and cultures by the looks of it you all spent your holidays practicing obliviate on one another Hogwarts Nails the teacher that loves his job and wants to enjoy his students couple with the awkward students who don't want to be there do you even remember how to perform a basic summoning charm that little smart she knows but doesn't want to be that student only one book will be needed per partnership is there the Ravenclaw girls drowning in books at every turn you see how much Avalanche cared about crafting this world even with the things so obvious and minor is this okay sorry I want a VR Harry Potter game where we actually have to do the Motions with the controller and use the mic to cast our spells how cool would that be potential is nothing without practice Talent is nothing without hard work block is preparation meeting opportunity being the PC means I'm better than everyone if I had a teacher this passion and fun in school I would have been there every day excited and ready between little games like these a dueling competitions and just fighting in general I could see a co-op Hogwarts game in the future it seems almost too easy to have drop in and out play if you know you know just kidding this isn't who some think it is and it's actually Wendell in the weird I wish you purposely got captured 47 times to be burned so she can enjoy the tickling Sensation that comes with burning under the flame freezing charm hence her enjoyment by burning I want to see some Vigor everyone on the ordering sub when someone asks how their stats look not with every spell does pecker do the wand movement needed but mid combat that wouldn't really work when you drop eight Spells at once but the occasional spell does and I like it spend a lot of time in detention do you just enough to keep me well-rounded forbidden spell shadowing seeing Hogwarts and all this Grandeur never gets old most notably that dragon attack hopefully the rest of your year isn't as eventful yeah about that oh shallow run would send our Behavior I can only imagine this being some student using Polyjuice taking the piss I don't know what he's putting his pumpkin juice and he's obviously had too much of it oh he's just a drunk well I'm sure we've all had that one teacher who that was always a bit off it's amazing that not all wand users aren't obese with that amount of automation their magic provides I guess that's just something about UK schools that I'm too American to understand am I right Sean yeah pretty much we do everything we can to not be like American schools the ones high above all got cardboards on them a little attention to World building it's not until the player gets to make their own wine that it accepts us I love all the little details we could change too I went for that good good ebony 14.5 inch unyielding wands it's funny because sex do not be surprised at your new one's ability to perceive your intentions particularly in a moment of need which is another blast really seems like the tenants of Hogwarts are cursing the way YouTube wants them to it only took about three hours but we finally get to play the game the spell combat in here is nothing groundbreaking but it feels really good combining all the spells to break down defenses and juggle and control the battlefield never get it's old add on all the pretty effects and everyone shouting spells it's so much fun plus the animations of our PC looks badass especially when using ancient magic this bridge I think that's enough said many of the classes outside of the main quest are just montages through and that really indicates exactly what direction Avalanche wanted with Hogwarts this game is about the exploration and how you spend your time outside of the classroom about living in this breathing World outside of the Hogwarts walls how other people in the surrounding towns get on in this world of magic something that the films and books didn't exactly pay that much attention to here I am as good as my word for your deck saves are as good as your word it took the cunning of a Slytherin to track down these Pages or The Bravery of a Gryffindor intellect of a Ravenclaw are the patience of a hoverboard right I do wish the differences between your house selection was a bit broader than just minor changes in the dialogue and a few side quests but it's a big game and the focus wasn't on the schools and aspects so I'll let it slide and hey they still got how specific dialogue when you find it say intramuros I think it's Latin it is Latin meaning under the walls tasing the location of the map room nothing oddly solemn about this place such Regal creatures Stacks have you ever seen the Prisoner of Azkaban intramuros okay so we say intramuros and jackdaw sounded like he said and from euros and from Euros is within the walls which this tomb directly is so both work and are fun the gear system is simple and gets the job done but what I love most about is the ease of transmogging no granny for 100 hours to get that layered piece like in a monster underwater iceborn every piece is immediately usable after collecting there is a lot to take in with Hogwarts Legacy and in a way I'm kind of glad that they waited till level five to allow us to allocate skill points overwhelming players off the rip is a Surefire way to turn off new players oh oh you stupid ratty School broom me trying to get up if you know what I'm saying one leg over so there's a leg on each side none of that side settled nonsense oh what you're telling me all those spicy pictures of witches aren't flying correctly no so many things Avalanche had to get right with this game another one was the broom flight it's a little unwieldy at first but what can you expect for flying around on a broomstick and seeing Hogwarts in the rest of the world in the air is like a whole nother experience one thing that I keep saying with this game never gets old the core of this game system mechanics are Rock Solid you can fly next to every little bit of Hogwarts too no weird invisible walls or no fly zones anywhere around it Avalanche lets us get up close and personal with it Hefty points will be taken from each of you if you really think about it house points just like Whose Line Is It Anyway everything's made up and the points don't matter you're in this class because you're still because you're still not showing yourself or frankly your broom the proper respect is that factually no no no no she's trying to keep him as a true straight edge Ravenclaw shall we to you Professor pecker as courteous as ever this presents the perfect opportunity the room of requirement was the perfect solution for all our crafting needs sliding nicely into the lore and giving us a boatload of tools to make this room our own unlike we were able to do with the dormitories we are seriously given so many options for decorations here that you could just spend hours making your perfect setup just look at some of these rooms people have created and having everything centralized really cuts down in the running around from the potions classroom to herbology to the tailor for all our gaming needs how did you find this place my friend ominous gaunt Sebastian that just raises more questions guess it takes one without eyes to truly see I'm a freaking poet everybody to be fair I'm admittedly partial to more fiery forms of magic judging by his quick temper that tracks my father is friends with Headmaster and I'm not afraid to exploit that connection if I need to Ark we just mentioned again how good training together spells is getting into that flow state of blocking attacks and counter things it's like something out of a storybook ancient magic looks like a watery goo in zero gravity given the fact that gravity is one of the biggest things we experience all the time you get to see him to only scratching the surface of his properties the ancient magic would have similarities to it or it just looks cool bigger Poison by the way is this cut the drippiest item in the game maybe was it possible to change out of yes did I like it so much because it kind of made me feel like Arthur Morgan also yes ah the puzzles in this game I was really hoping for a lot of them with just the spells that are in the game now there is Limitless opportunity to create some challenging intricate puzzles where you've got to combine four plus spells to complete them I was holding my breath all game waiting for a dungeon to really test to be in the hottest one I was given was hellblade reality doors and then guardian naviosa and once again we got to think of the goal of the game before casting too much judgment it's about the exploration experience of living in this world then it's straight up gameplay we've got a myriad of other puzzle games and also the age rating javians needed to pulso a block into place and lift it while it's sliding to then pass it through a fire that breaks it down and then repairow it as it's crumbling and levioso it before it falls back down through the fire to create a platform for you to jump across a fiery Chasm might just have been too much for the younger audience but damn does the potential dispels give me a stiffy for future puzzles in a sequel or DLC oh God where's carlion Mercer hiding a tear comes out of rackham's eye for the guilt he has but Isadora what if I could help him professor you do so much for your father already it's not enough I want to take away his pain I always struggle making these videos not Theory craft and make a bunch of wins about the potential a game has but gosh I can't help it here these adore story is almost completely independent from the Rand Rock side of things creating a very lopsided structure I'm imagining a Hogwarts game where Isadora is a seventh year Peer who we bond with over affinity for ancient magic and then have our antagonist Arc play out over the course of the game with her want to do the right thing with the wrong way this could have played with Sebastian and Alanis fake mourning his wife all sorts of directions you could have gone with it but I digress Isidore is the most compelling stuff we get in Hogwarts and thank God for that as rain rocks complete Melanie got tiresome human emotion is a potent Force unto itself I love the brief exploration of the limitations that their magic has a kit Cure All That ales and that human emotion trumps even the most powerful magic so I'm to watch as my father's pain destroys him it is not your pain to take something I feel Hogwarts had to do and its creation was completely separate itself from Fantastic Beasts and more importantly the Harry Potter story as much as it could no mentions of Grindelwald Dumbledore or Voldemort in a very direct sense this proved to people that it can stand on its own two feet not relying on those stories that have come before even though timeline wise this entire story happens before making it easier decides to do that but they are able to craft a completely new and original story with its own themes and arcs and it doesn't feel bogged down by living or not living up to the shadow cast by those stories truly allowing itself to be judged independently of those stories on its own Merit I was so pleased to hear that you had accepted the position of defense against the dark arts Professor well in case you're wondering what's going to happen to Isadora that might just have sealed her fate keeping a Harry Potter tradition Hogwarts brings us through each season of the year completely transforming the map and decorations you'll see around my favorite is winter as it generally is my favorite setting in video games being from the Midwest it can go die in a hole not starting proper till December then finally ending in May but it's so pretty there were four composers that worked on Hogwarts like it's general practice to have more than one on games this large than just the one we see in films Murray myers-recancy and Horowitz all came together to deliver a score that is distinctly Harry Potter that we all instantly recognize that could slide right in with John Williams body of work crafting tracks that explore the innocent Whimsy of exploring such a magical place like the one at hogsmeade ones that bring in the more Curious otherworldly feelings such as the music we find in the trials and then of course taking the foundation that Williams laid with his famous tracks like hedwig's theme and expanding it to create an all-new one for Hogwarts Legacy I hadn't seen him in years when he came in a few months ago but he recognized me instantly not all goblins are like ran Rock and as loyalists lagak is the best they play around with the thought of him betraying us but in the end he's just a bud trying his best and I love that of all people lodgak was the first one to recognize and accept sirona instantly of course he of all people would understand what she might be going through vodka does a lot of heavy lifting to show us that Hogwarts Legacy is viewing goblins in a refresh new lens sure not all of them are sunshine and rainbows but are all humans look at Rookwood hogsmeade is another wonderful creation by Avalanche needing its entire own map teaming with its own life and shopkeepers all the buildings crooked and seemingly ready to top over or held together by what can only be surmised to be magic it's a town you'll come to over and over again during your adventures and your player character is Keen to remind you of that fact every time you travel to it lumos this took me an embarrassing amount of time to figure out just after chest I see how easy puzzles are in this game it's my credit once you figure out you need to use lumos the puzzles basically don't exist anyway module flame reference it looks stunning Rod I see why you wanted it back you did the thieves a service by recovering it yeah about that he's delighted inside of a blank dodo bird so we get to pick good boys and girls all right this game has it all that's really not funny the professor showing up but not announcing ourselves to see other students handle the situation to Dan teach them from there and also to have her mere presence protect Poppy and pegger quite the weather we're having puppy where are you taking me you even with all the magic we still resort to the good old weather chat please allow me to apologize if I seemed a bit uh unstead afraid I had a rather disconcerting encounter Mr moon has been finding demigod statues in places he frequents there are multiple houses inhabited by witches that all around the world you'll find these statues getting busy and from what I understand the village was lucky you were there I love Mr Moon's voice we needed a more eccentric character here especially among the professors up to now everyone's just a little bit too by the book The Moon's I assume are an uninspired play on my name I think it was quite funny perhaps you could start simply by removing them so uh I can go about my evening duties this Quest is literally just an adult being a little spooked by a statue reminds me some of the silly requests in Skyrim and it's welcome here too Mr Moon teaches us alohomora a spell that unlocks doors moon is a common Korean surname and door in Korean is a homophone for Moon hence Allah Mora and the Swish and flick it all looks like a lock is being split in half it's no idea the harm he could do if he doesn't stop kinda like when he uses the killing curse on someone in this family that is most definitely not you and the most emotionally charged moment in the game right I adore teasing First Years about sporting mermaids through the window is that the same thing like telling freshmen about the pool that's not there in high school I'm the one trying to help her he's simply given up both Anne and your uncle seem genuinely convinced that nothing more can be done for her I refuse to believe that this faith is placed well between learning Rookwood cursor and Relic that could have cured in but just like with Isador the road to hell was paid with good intentions Sebastian I've seen this before this house the well the view it's no coincidence that and Sebastian live at the same place that Isadora did with her father with how their stories are just history repeating itself having one go too far in the efforts to save the one they love from Pain misadors journals we read that in her everyday lives she was constantly faced with grief and sorrow every day she had to Stew on the fact that she had the power to help but could not and she stayed that way all the way into adulthood something we might forget since we see the pensives interactions over the course of a few dozen hours but anyone seeing breadth of content Avalanche was able to concessions had to be made when it came to the cutscenes and I completely understand when making a game this large Something's Gotta Give the reverence with which she talked of goblins and their intelligence and skill it caught me entirely of God I'd never been treated with such Respect by a witch or wizard Avalanche is doing the most they can to write a story that fits into the contentious World JK created but with more nuance and I believe with the hope to rewrite the narrative award goblins are and can be in the HP Universe a tall order I know but door and horrible nope nope and that's how duels and Magic should have always been treated but it's still cool nonetheless for the final battle we get the Avengers assembling is it kind of land that there are no students here yep but no bother having a war going on around us really heightens the scale of everything going on heck it's showing us hurt levioso the simple spell that was the first thing that she taught us I have not seen a less ceremonious death in a video game in a long long time and that's saying something with that random really small Indie Naughty Dog game that came out recently with how much I actually didn't enjoy Hogwarts Legacy but also really liked fig I'm sorry but I'm gonna have to remove a win for how he went out the renmark fight is quite underwhelming to say the least but Avalanche bookends the game of the Dragon first 24 one then facing one down a lot of missed opportunity though like why are we not doing a chasing with our broomstick but anyway Professor Eleazar fig I dare say he was a beloved Professor to many of you suddenly a long-standing colleague to his peers Roblox fault he gives actually quite a nice eulogy All Things Considered knowing him though Weasley is too stubborn to give him some freaking credit [Music] at least it do honor his memory in the final cutscene and though we don't get bread is rolling after this this truly is the end of the main story that would have naturally faded out as we look towards the heavens of fig and I it was quite a good way to send it off too and because the conversation with Sebastian is super awkward coming off the emotional High effects eulogy I'm going to stick to my conclusion that if this was an RPG that would have been the end of the game and so Hogwarts Legacy a game praised not for its Innovations or its compelling narrative but for its ability to translate the Harry Potter Universe into a fully fledged game that has no rival in its authenticity to the lore at least when it comes to the feeling Vibe Hogwarts nails that in Spades Hogwarts Legacy has been mired with controversy but what we really care about in this channel is the core of the game what themes The Narrative can teach us about our lives the beauty the score weaves into the narrative the Fantastic gameplay systems the title Cooks up all developers do such a great job and put so much hard work into their games video games are some of the hardest works of art to make when judged by the amount of time effort and money needs to even create a halfway decent one Hogwarts Legacy was a game labored over for years that millions of people have been dreaming about as long as they could remember though I wasn't in love with Hogwarts Legacy throughout my playthrough I gained an understanding for those who lost themselves in this world they couldn't put the controller down and that's what we're all looking for when we play a game right to transport to another world to forget about the everyday trappings that give us so much anxiety frustration and anger to find catharsis in a complete fantasy and get to be whoever we want without judgment and ridicule Hogwarts Legacy provides that
