all right it's always a pleasure to be on the sabbath school uh panel this morning so i'm great i'm grateful to be here oh yeah you know and i'm glad glad to have you here to you know uh we want to welcome everybody here who's tuning in today uh we have on our panel guest today uh like i said my co-host today is dr michael taylor and also we have elder errol dunson and also we have dr richard williams with us and also dr brenda king and so we're looking forward to getting into this lesson this is lesson number 12. this quarter is about over and we're talking about the restless prophet today you know we were talking about jonah so many times we talk about jonah but this week you know i i had a different viewpoint of the story of jonah you know i was talking with my wife this week and i asked her you know if you just had to give us one sentence statement about the book of jonah what would it be and the conclusion that we came up with is that is god trying to save a prophet yeah that's how it boils down to you know we talk about nineveh we talk about you know the the well uh the fish uh you know the the worm the plant the wind the storm all that but is god trying to save a prophet and we're going to get right into the lesson but before we get into it the memory text today is and should i not pity nineveh that great city which is which are more than 120 000 persons who cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand and much livestock you know it was kind of interesting to me uh dr taylor yeah you know the fact that god was concerned not only about the uh 120 000 but also he's concerned about the animals you know that's a compassionate god you know he's concerned about all of his creation and and you know when i think of the story of jonah i also think about how god has a heart for uh missionary work when we're looking at the story of jonah jonah did not want to go to nineveh for a reason yeah um he was scared for his life and then we even have some prejudice in here so even with jonah we see different sides of humanity how even a man who's called by god who's who has a reputation of being a man of god can have his own prejudices and his own biases uh and in his his own animosity towards an entire group of people okay now i'm glad you brought that up i'm not gonna bring up my comment about that just now but you know but uh you bring out very good points that that uh hopefully will touch on this week and when we look at the overall view of the lesson uh sabbath we see that we can be called of god and like you said and yet run away from god's call let me say that again we can be called of god and yet run away from god's call and then when we look at sunday you know even if we can justify what we are doing god's call can interrupt our life in a big way yeah and then monday where could i go but to the lord and then when i look at tuesday he said let's throw ourselves on god's mercy and not our own accomplishments let's rely completely on his goodness and grace and then when we look at wednesday true followers of god even prophets may have some growing and overcoming to do can you imagine that yeah yeah and it shows that you know even with jonah and the reaction that he had to god's mercy we can be so caught up in wanting mercy and grace for ourselves and we may not want that for someone else yeah because in our eyes they don't deserve it yeah and then we completely forget that we don't we didn't deserve it because remember it wasn't that long before you know jonah is not a long book yeah um he was in the fish for a reason he he deliberately disobeyed what god had wanted him to do and god had to put him on a detour and put him in a situation where it was so unprecedented yeah um and in terms of how far he he had to go in order to just reroute his direction and when i look at monday's um you know lesson when it see when you're seeing jonah actually deliberately uh flee from god's um direction you can't help but wonder what happens when we do the same thing it's in this moment when jonah's in this fish when all of a sudden he's coming to his senses and he's coming to this realization that without god he can't do anything yeah that without dependence on him he's bound to fail and and so it's only in that situation where a lot of us would find ourselves um humble and humiliate it and say say okay i thought that i was good on my own i thought that i had it figured out i thought that i was going in the direction i wanted to go i thought i knew best but now that i'm in this situation now that there's nowhere else for me to go but to my knees in prayer now i'm ready to listen god and the question you know that i couldn't help but ask is why do we have to get to that point of desperation before we have dependence um often you know god wants us to come to him as his fir as our first resort in terms of dependence and a lot of times we have to get the rejection letters we have to get rejection from from job offers uh and before we finally come to our senses and and listen to what god wants us to do with our lives um and and i think jonah illustrates that very well okay and and on that point and let me let me ask dr dr king this question dr king um [Music] the question i have is you know just as dr taylor was saying so many times things happen to us why is it that we can come to the conclusion that we don't need to come to church or corporate leading together when we're in a bad situation wow well you know it's kind of difficult to um to speak for all of us because all of us you know we face different situations and uh different situations different people react differently to them um however you know sometimes because of the the way that church is set up you know uh the stigma and the the the way that we have not really allowed the holy spirit to be our guide at church you know we do our own thing uh we when something happens to us you know shame and so forth and so on sets in and and we the last place we want to come is to church you know around our brothers and sisters because even before the pandemic uh a lot of people in church wear a mask and so we don't want that mask taken off and our real selves to be revealed but you know like i said i can't answer for everyone sometimes it's different reasons for different people but we need to know that um no matter if we come into the physical building or not that we always need jesus you know no matter what's going on in our life we always need the lord okay so so what i hear you saying that is under some circumstances it may be okay just for a moment but don't completely stay away uh somehow another we've got to find strength in jesus and also in uh some type of sport even though everybody may not support us uh there is somebody in the church that we can hopefully have at least one person that that we can uh confide in and help us stay close corporately because uh when we get to the point to where um we just feel like we just need to stay away so sometimes like like you said i'm glad you brought that out it may take a moment just for me to get myself together and i can come back because all situations are different yes and pastor mcgraw um to that point you know i was thinking you know as it relates to corporate worship and dependence on god uh dependence on god and coming to church is not something that we should just see is in terms of um that's necessary in times of emergencies um it is the realization that apart from god's will apart from from being a part of the body of christ we can't even presume what our next breath is because we're not connected to the source that we need to be connected to uh we also see dependence uh the the story of jonah also shows us that dependence sees god as being everything uh while presumption sees him merely as a resource for dealing with um crises and a lot of us seek even even in the world when you look at movies and stuff when you see turbulence on the plane or when people are stranded on an island or you know whatever the scenario is that puts people in a desperate desperate situation of life and death that's when they decide to pray to god that's when they decide even with the the gentleman on the scene of the boat uh you know the fact that these people were you know folks who worship different gods and all of a sudden they're coming together and saying let's pray there's a storm going on it just shows us that human nature is to only is to depend upon on ourselves when things are going well and then when the crises come then we fall on our knees and we pray to god and god is saying you know we have it backwards you're supposed to come to me before any of that stuff happens so that when you do end up in that situation you show the world what it's what you what you should look like in times of crisis okay okay and that and that's what i like about you know this portion of the lesson you know uh jonah was it was in the belly uh of the fish and you know he was you know looking at himself but then he turned himself to the lord you know that that's when colin because uh that that's when he said you know uh he said i will look towards your holy temple so it's not just the church but also look you know where is the presence of god where is god you know wherever god is that's that's where i need to be at you know i i need to be there and so i need to get myself back to that point okay so let's uh look at um let's look at uh sunday uh running away uh running away uh elder dunstan what do you have to uh what can you share with us about sunday running away well first let me say i watched veggie tales three times uh-oh to get to get my reference for for this one my grandbaby loves veggietales so that's right you know grundy's lesson is is a really interesting lesson because i think we all can relate to running and um we you know we don't want to face something that's what we do we run and and it's and it's easy to understand how we can become restless as a result of that yes the thing that fascinates me about jonah is that the lesson points out that he was a successful missionary yes you know that god has has used him in a way that um he was fruitful in what he he had in terms of his skills in terms of his gifts in terms of being a prophet but now god is asking him to do something that he's not prepared to do and instead of jonah thinking that you know the lord would never steer me wrong instead of jonah thinking that you know well he's used me and times past i know he will use me again that was not jonah's process thought process at all and it says something about us i believe you know uh just like it says something about abraham just like it says something about david it says something about anybody that has aligned their will with god at some point in time god is going to ask you to do something that you are going to feel like you're not prepared to do and how we respond to that that's the question how we're going to respond to that and look jonah a man who knows god who knew god i'm sorry to the point where he could claim whatever god asks and proclaim it to the people he actually decides to go the opposite way and run from god and try to hide from god now i'm sure jonah understood that god is an all-seeing god that god sees all it knows all and yet he chooses to run and the question i have for us today is those of us who know god those of us who've experienced god what is it that makes us run from him knowing that he sees knowing that he knows what happens in our mind to make us forget that that we can get on a ship and hide and sleep even because we're so tired of running it says something about us is that we can become delusional in our fears and when we become fearful that we think that we can hide from god and i speak as one who who has done a bit of running and i know that during my time of running one of the things i have to deny is the voice of god because he does not leave you alone he he pursues us when we are running and um i'm glad that god pursues us when we are running because at some point we're going to get tired and at some point we're going to have to find our way back home i'm going to leave this point with you um and then we can move on but i was looking out my window one day and every day there's this little boy across the street from me he has a little dog a hyper dog they open the door to let the dog out the dog takes off running and for the next 45 minutes to an hour this little boy is chasing that dog all afternoon trying to get that dog back in the house but it's when the dog gets tired when the dog gets thirsty and when that dog gets hungry he makes his way back home and i'm glad to know that at some point god knows we need him more than he needs us and when we get tired of running we will find our way back home i'm just glad that there's an open door that no man can shut he leaves that door open for us to get back in here amen yeah and let me throw a little little twist in this thing i don't know if it's a twist or not but uh something crossed my mind this week as i was studying the lessons about jonah you know uh the more i studied this week um the more some things came to my head that i hadn't thought about in the past and the jonah did not want to go to nineveh now he he did not want to go now i know some people say that he was uh prejudiced uh the lesson says that he was reluctant but my question is was he justified in not wanting to go to nineveh and the reason i asked that question is because uh assyria had basically did his people wrong right you know when they overtook the lakeish you know said it was hundreds of thousands of prisoners were impaled and impaling is a bad thing and when somebody does that to you or to your family to your people uh you you can't go to court and say uh i forgive you um you know hardcore supporters of king hezekiah you know they were played alive yeah you know how how can how can you say i forgive you for that and then the rest of the of the people uh they they were taken away as cheap slave labor that's right now these were jonah's people and this was something incredibly cruel that was done about by the assyrians and my thing is is this you know when you look at it god was sending jonah into the very heart of the empire who did this to his people now is there any wonder that jonah didn't want to go to nineveh and my question is was he justified in his reluctance to go i think pastor mcgraw if i can jump in um you know to put it in a perspective that we can probably appreciate more there's a a rally that's going on right now uh in dc to honor the january 6 insurrection right that's like the lord telling one of us or someone listening tonight today this morning to go to that rally um where it could potentially result in more violence um and and preach to those folks yeah um knowing and even with the the the strong feelings you may have about how unjustified that rally is supporting people who murdered police officers um and and are blatantly um blatantly wanted to overturn the results of an election i mean to to put it in perspective i would think that's probably close to what jonah probably felt you know like to your point these were people who were diametrically opposed to his people um and and when i think about the the fact that god to the point that elder brought out earlier would call us to do things that are just not in accordance with with our human nature at all okay just not something we want to do um it it goes to show you that even though we pile up on jonah and we beat him up for you know disobeying god and doing things like that we today can make this the same kind of calls on a much smaller scale of course but in the same uh nature that jonah made on his mistake yeah i you know what i i would add um let me just say for myself i don't i don't i don't beat jonah no i i'm not i'm not judging him or persecuting him because because i you know if i be honest um i don't know if i'm the oldest one on this panel i don't know but anyway i have been in situations that god has asked me to do something that i did not want to do i i mean just if i'm gonna be honest i'll just tell it i have been in in places and i have been asked to do things and i've and i've talked to god about it and i knew that's what he wanted me to do but i didn't want to do it and and i did not want to do it for some people that he wanted me to do it for and so i say that to say that if you have not been in that situation just keep living for god yeah because because you will face that and and and the bottom line is you know those people were wicked in nineveh yeah uh you know those were evil people in in nineveh and plus just like all of us have and i i don't know if we all are ready to admit it but we all have our own prejudices against certain people for whatever the reasons may be yeah but think about it dr king you know his his prejudice as we call it wasn't justified because this actually happened to um hit his people you know so uh at that point is it is it a prejudice or is it a hatred because right i mean well you know his people yeah and and with that um how how can i overcome those type of feelings what what what can anybody help me you know if some if you know someone does something atrocious to me or my family and then i'm called back to do acts of mercy or kindness to them i'm just gonna be honest i'm gonna have a very hard time that's right i'm gonna have a very hard time lasting my girlfriend i'm still i have a very hard time that's right i need help somebody help help a brother out i mean pastor mcgraw and i think jonah tells us it helps us yeah it's an act of god the story almost just leaves i mean the chapter the book itself just leaves us hanging yeah on the thought of what what happened to jonah after that after god kind of you know set him straight yes but it listen you know it was i'm gonna tell you it was it's the fact that policies and laws cannot change people's hearts that's right you know and that's the problem with our country today when it comes to uh prejudice and you know it it's not you know and i'm glad we had obama i'm glad we had all the great presidents that made the evidence it has to start somewhere but it's not until people sit down and talk to each other and and learn about each other the fact that hey yeah i'm married yeah you're married yeah i got kids i got this my experience until people understand that we are all human it's it's love has to take place in order for that to happen and so it's an act of god for someone like jonah or like you or like me to go into a place where we don't want to go like since the king was saying you know it is when we are moved by god to do things and and i just found it interesting that god was pushing jonah in a direction it's like he was not only trying to save nineveh he was also trying to save jonah and he did it with peter you know what i'm saying yeah and jesus was struggling with all his disciples they were calling fire down on folk you know so i think when love gets in our hearts we're able to look beyond because love will conquer hate if we allow it at any time okay well we'll let that's right let me ask you this you know on what you're saying um what what can you say to me as far as that church that did me wrong and they're asking me to come back and i just have a hard time doing it um pastor mcgraw i'm reminded of the the text isaiah 55 8-9 it says for my thoughts are not your thoughts neither my ways my ways um as the heavens are higher than the earth's or my ways higher than your ways and that may sound like a cliche text but what this is saying is that in human nature to your earlier question how is it justified human nature would say it is justified you i mean they did you wrong yeah it's natural to feel this way i'm justified but um once we put in perspective that we are to be representatives of god god is our father and so if we're going to be like him we're going to do things that are completely alien to the way everyone else just does things here down here on earth and so you know to the question how do i forgive a church that did me wrong that insulted me that embarrassed me that hurt me or a family member who who who hurt me in the past or or a friend who who um you know did something that i would never do to them um you know how do we tackle that my response is that in our own power we can't but once we connect ourselves with the one who can because remember christ himself faced abuse and what was his response um forgive them for they don't know what they're doing and and that's um and so you know i think in our own power it's not possible it is god gives us yes but christ says clearly that if they repent a um god did not reply and did not comply to those requests because the bible says and so the spirit says i'm going to be raised because it's if you're going to be good at something there's a process yes and we like to remove the process by saying it's easy this is not easy yeah it's not as easy as sss let me say something because i don't i don't want to leave uh this point um or the point that i made to think somebody have somebody go down the wrong road now one of the things that we have to realize and going along with what you were saying and dr williams you know you can say some of this or somebody else can basically even in forgiveness of people who have done us wrong uh forgiveness does not mean that uh okay things are like their way the way they were before you know if you're able to work out differences that's fine but sometimes you have to forgive people from a distance because uh some people if you get back in their presence or in their environment you're putting yourself in harm's way either uh for more uh verbal or physical abuse now am i off the mark by saying that dr dr williams because some people i say i'd say first of all the purpose of forgiveness is reconciliation okay that's the purpose okay and often you often we will feel we will use resolvement and own personal self as forgiveness that's that's that's self that's self appreciation that's not forgiveness forgiveness is a real is a process and god gives it that that process no matter what i do if i repent i there's there's a there is an opportunity for reconciliation and if we push that process we will find that a lot of things will be resolved but what we do we skip that if i used to get them on my wife years ago um she used to say i do she says i forgive you and i'm saying that's control because i didn't i didn't ask for forgiveness i'm not sorry for what i did you were trying to confirm something i need to repent if i feel i'm wrong i need to go through that process and when i go through that process i grow but if you're going to throw forgiveness on me and i haven't i'm not sorry you have not met you have not helped me to grow okay so i said that's a controlled thing okay so we need to unders we need to use the process god has light laid up he says if you confess your sins i am willing and faithful to forgive you of your sins and to cleanse you from all unrighteousness okay pastor mcgraw i want i want to add in in conjunction with what the elder mentioned about the process even with the process love is at the center of that because forgiveness or yes yeah because you absolutely i'm not i'm not i'm not i'm not at all against that i think love love generates reconciliation we should always look to resolve always look to resolve but don't forget the process right and what we're saying is forgiveness is not just for the the wrong doer forgiveness is also for the one who was hurt yeah because what that does is it frees you up from all of that it liberates you from holding on to that tension from holding on to that anger and resentment um because even with the example with christ even with the example with joseph and his brothers you go down the list you know you you see time after time again those who showed forgiveness were free and they didn't go to their grave they didn't die with that resentment still in their heart now what what what the other person did the recipient of the forgiveness that that was totally up to them yeah you know what i'm saying yeah and the elder pointed it out you know what with the soldiers who crucified christ that's that's on them yeah but but christ did not die um with resentment you understand what i'm saying and so in doing that he set the example for us because we often see forgiveness as a gift that we're giving that this one doesn't deserve which is true but it's also something that benefits us in the long run as well because now i'm free and i don't have to have this constant tension a lot of us have heard from from our youth and it just carries us to the grave yeah you know a lot of us were hurt from church members like you mentioned earlier um and another point is that you know a lot of folks say well this church hurt me i'm not gonna go back but they would never not say that about their job you know i'm i'm sure that they've been hurt or disrespected by folks on their job but they wouldn't say i'm not going back uh because they know that there's a dependence there that they need from their job and that that mindset is what we need as it relates to the church as well yeah well well like i said i'll make this last statement then we're going to move forward because i don't want anyone to take anything wrong yeah that's what i'm saying basically um the thing that i want to say is this and i might get in trouble saying this but if you are in a relationship that's been when you've been abused or hurt or something like that and you separate and they say i love you i forgive you come back um when we read accounts there have been people who said okay honey i'll come back and they never make it out once they go back and i'm going to leave that alone because that's another yeah that's that's that's another lesson um we can deal with that on another level thank you thank you thank you dr king appreciate your support now let's now let's go on the tuesday uh mission accomplished dr williams okay mission okay um tuesday's lesson um uh covered four areas the obedience of the message the response and the consequence now when we look at the obedience uh i i have um two takeaways one obedience is something that god does not compromise with that's i mean he doesn't compromise with disobedience obedience is something that he does not compromise with the other takeaway is our obedience should not be influenced by our perception of the outcome okay that and that was jonah's problem he was looking at the outcome and therefore his his obedience is based on that we can't do that when we get to the message the message was a uh say a message of woe uh which is um the kind of message that we have the take away from that was we have the same type of message that jonah did the three three angels message you know fear god and you lord him for the hour of his judgment has come babylon his fault of the mark of the beast and in revelation 18 you know come out of her my people that's a hard message matter of fact ellen white said that is the most uh um dreadful message in the history of the world because we're telling people that if you don't turn right to god it's it's destruction christ is coming we have a message of doom also message of doom i should say the other thing was the response the response to that straight strong straight message was one of repentance these people went through a process which should teach us what real repentance is when you've done something you know it's not it's not well lord i'm sorry but these people went into fasting they sat cloth i mean they the everybody uh got on board even the animals got on board that was a a a an example of what real repentance is and and the fourth point which was the consequence we find that when we do that when we do that kind of intense repent repentance because this is the area that i think the church always like to throw out god spawns to the point of he will change the consequences that's what he i mean he hits the message was i'm going to destroy um uh nineveh in 40 days but after that repentance i am not going to destroy them and i think that's a lesson take away from that is let's not belittle the consequence and use what i call cheap forgiveness in place of that because i think this is an example of how we can move god and how we can get people to understand that because we all are born and sin and shaped in iniquity and in order for us to to to reconcile back to god we have to learn how to really repent for our sins and for our ages you know it's kind of interesting uh doctor we just brought that up and i have a question i don't know who wants to tackle this but but like i said i just think different sometimes and i want to know is how did men of a wicked city who worship the god and i can't pronounce his name but it's in second kings 1936 n-i-s-r-o-c-h this rock is as close as i can get to it now if this was a heathen wicked city how did they know how to repent you know it says they repented they fast they put on set claw you know satin ashes now that's something that that you know the israelites would do not something that he the nature do how is it that they knew how to repent toward the god of heaven anybody want to tackle that well i think yeah i would because i i did a little research on that um you know the spirit of prophecy uh bring some insight on that okay but you gotta remember that israel israel was was was uh a country that people looked upon because everybody knew the miracles that had been uh god that manifested toward them but adam white said that in nineveh there were people who were ready and looking for they were ready for for for they knew that the behaviors that they were doing was wrong they knew that and she said that the city had a lot of people in there who although the city was the tone of the city and the culture this of the city was was very um lustful and and and and low grit you know low um and and and degrading there were people in that city who and and and and as you pointed out they knew about repentance they also also knew the process of repentance sat cloud yeah you know they the the fasting the calling upon god and and um um uh they responded because israel had already made an impression israel had made an impression on some of the nations which was supposed to be their uh purpose anyway okay and nineveh had felt had felt that can i can i just add three words to that pastor mcgraw sure how did they know how to repent yeah the holy spirit yes okay that's bottom line okay that's the bottom line okay while while jonah was preaching to them when he decided to go there and preach the lesson said the holy spirit was working upon their hearts okay and that's the only way true godly repentance is ever done okay you you can preach to me all day you can you can preach to your blue in the face if i don't allow the holy spirit and i don't accept what the holy spirit is is trying to show me and tell me i will not have a a desire or urge for true repentance so to answer your question that i can't answer a lot of your questions but that one oh i'm sorry yeah that one i can just give you three words the holy spirit there are people in the world who have never heard the name jesus christ will be saved because of the holy spirit because they responded to the spirit that's right respond to the spirit then god uh you know react to this okay dr taylor yes i wanted to add in in you know contribute to what was already uh thrown out there in terms of the holy spirit being the one that led the the ninevites to repentance because you know in addition to the impression that israel um made a lot of us you know wonder you know how is it like you would ask how is it that they knew exactly the style in which yeah and i think once people people's hearts are open for a change the holy spirit can work wonders because the thing is there's a lot of people out there who are doing wrong they'll say yeah i know clubbing i know i'm not supposed to be in the club right now i know i know i'm not taking this drink i know i'm not gonna be doing this drug yeah but it's like you they know it's wrong but because of the way it makes me feel i'm gonna continue but if the holy spirit is there all of a sudden it's a conviction that that reaches them the way that we can't reach them you understand and so um the fact that these people were so right for the holy spirit to take a hold of them yeah just shows you the the the huge mission that lies before us because there are people out there um who would be just as sincere um once we do what we have to do and allow ourselves to be instruments uh for the holy spirit to reach them okay and and something else um i i kind of did some backwards research you know i'm i'm i'm an engineer so i start one place and work backwards you know to find my answer sometimes and one of the things uh also to go along with um uh all this all this uh that every everyone said is is is correct uh but something else i wanna add to it also i went all the way back to uh noah noah had three sons shem him and jacob uh and him uh he had a son um um his son's name is cush kush had a son named nimrod nimrod built many cities and then out of the land of china asher came out of there and he built nineveh so we see that there are some roots there as far as back to the worship of god and one of the things when i look at all these things putting them together we have to be careful because we can get very far away from our christian roots and and go down paths that you know we shouldn't be going and like uh dr taylor was saying there are things that we do we know we shouldn't be doing because of our christian groups because of our our you know our our family line or or even just association you know it's sometimes because some of us didn't have any uh adventists in our family but we had some some good uh christian baptists you know that that you know kept you know uh obeyed the bible to the best of their uh ability and their knowledge at the time and they passed it on to us and so you know uh there's some there are some roots and christian roots that you know we have gotten away from and so with that being said i thought it was kind of interesting to me when i you know thought about you know how did they know that you said the process of repentance and it was there so so we have just a few minutes left and uh we're going to move on to wednesday dr king we're going to let you go ahead and talk about an angry restless missionary an angry restless uh missionary well okay i'll speed through this i mean since we've we've taken a lot of time but i'll speak through this very quickly the first thing i just want to say is that as christians we need as seven-day adventist christians uh as christians period we need to be careful in thinking that god's grace is only for us mm-hmm we need to remember that verse that we say all the time that we we skip the meaning he says for god so love this world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever let's stop right there at the whosoever i'm including that and that that doesn't exclude anyone as a matter of fact that that includes everyone so you know jonah jonah made a mistake right there i'm not beating up on jonah because i think we make the same mistakes sometimes that we think god's blessings and his grace is exclusive to us and it is not it is not and we have to remember also that uh unless you have a true godly uh repentance then you will not have ex experience with the holy the holy spirit if you are not you know your sorrow you can't be sorry for your sins only because you got caught you know you have to have a godly repentance and and and and just very quickly i i cannot we don't have time to talk about all that this lesson really brought out but one thing that we always talk about as i was growing up i heard it all my life and i hear it now the one thing we can take to heaven with us is our character and that is what was brought out about jonah he had a faulty character and but he was a man of god and so we have to be very careful as as christians as as whatever you know we call ourselves whatever our positions are whatever we have to ask god to work on our character i will i will i will just be honest and and admit to you when i read that about jonah's character i fell to my knees and i asked god i said god work on my character please work on my because i don't want to do all of these things that i do and go through the motions and still have the wrong motives and so and so god has to work on our character so that we can understand that he wants he has no desire for anyone to be lost he really wants all people to be saved it is only their choice that will keep them out of heaven and so and so jonah you know it just really his attitude just really threw me i said you know but but how many of us are guilty of this that we you know there are certain groups of people because you know in our church sometimes we have that hierarchy of of classes of people but you cannot people in a class when it comes to god's grace and it comes to his mercy he wants them all saved and so he doesn't look at people the way we look at people and he doesn't treat people the way that we treat people even in the church and so i just what i got out of wednesday's lesson is listen listen if if if if it's a person god is concerned about them and if it's if it's a person that you may look at and think that there are lower than you remember that god loves them just as much as he loves you amen and he wants to save them he wants them in the same heaven that he wants you in and so this thing this thing is just it was something that jonah would get angry most people when they preach like like most people when they give somebody the word they they want them to receive it you know my biggest fear i'll tell you the truth my mission field god told me a couple of years ago is my own family i don't have to travel i don't have to travel anywhere i have nieces and nephews i have uncles and us i have family right under my nose that needs to know that there's a god who can save them and so my mission field is my family and when i talk to my family i pray that god the holy spirit will work on their heart that they will turn to god and that they will not be those people that's outside the ark that i won't be outside the ark that will be those inside the ark and my biggest fear is rejection my biggest fear is rejection they will not listen because sometimes when you're in your own family people don't listen to you and so and so for some for people to listen to what you have said and say you know what jonah something has been prompted my heart to know that what you're saying is the truth and because i know it's true i repent right now most of us would shout for joy but my my man my man had a faulty character yeah and he got angry about it and so you know that's but but but the good news is always good news at the end of the story with jesus there's always good news yes jesus did not leave it there he continued to pursue jonah and to talk with jonah and to reason with him because not only did he want the ninevite safe he wanted jonah saved and so i i'm just thanking god that he wants me saved just like he wants anybody that i speak to about his word amen can i just add to what dr king said i think it was a wonderful point and and you know to that point for those of us who grew up in the adventist church or grew up with you know daniel revelation grew up with prophecy grew up with the truth we can we can make the same mistake jonah made and develop a superiority complex and feel as if we have a monopoly on grace because of that we have a monopoly on the truth we have a monopoly on god himself and and you know the fact that he cried over a plant more than the souls that he just saved shows that we could get so caught up in material things too we can get caught up in the church building we can get caught up with programs and caught up with uniforms and caught up with our clothes caught up with our lifestyle in the suburbs and and and the the mistake jonah made and weeping over this plant like it was like it had a soul yeah you know and instead of the the people who he actually just saved now think about he he saved the whole city the testimony that you can have of how god uses you to save an entire city you know that's like going to new york city and converting the entire queens brooklyn manhattan bronx and and and you're so caught up on this plant that that you had this job that you had you know what i'm saying so we can we can fall into the same trap easily because our focus would be so caught up on ourselves and our comfort and our and our superiority feeling that we were cut above uh everyone else and god shows god owes us grace more than he owes them yeah yeah and and one thing uh and we just got a few seconds left uh we can't let anybody else talk we can't let anybody else talk we got a few seconds left yeah there's another there's another lesson i think we got 26 seconds doctor so go ahead now there's a lesson that we i don't think we want to overlook okay we're we're a lot like jonah so yes of course when we look at the um the trauma that he went through and all the dramatics and so forth and so on we think this is unusual experience but we do the same thing we um that gives us the direction and gives us a population that we need to deal with a lot of times we will not have to worry i hate to cut you off we got one second but but thank you so very much for being with us and and and we're going to push to try and get more time for sabbath school and we want to appreciate everybody being with us today god bless you all have a happy saturday and i really enjoyed this question today and uh with with you uh dr all the panel guests thank be happy to share your children's bible memory verse for now this is dr big guys saying so long [Music] [Applause] hello boys and girls this is aunt frenita and i have a wonderful story for you called god gives manna today's memory verse is from joel chapter 2 verse 26. it says you will have plenty to eat and you will praise the name of the lord the message for today's story is we thank god for giving us good food where do you get your food from a store from an orchard or field god gave the israelites some unusual food when the israelites had been traveling in the desert for several weeks the food they had brought with them from egypt was almost gone there were no grocery stores in the desert there were no fields or trees to get food from either instead of trusting god the israelites began complaining and grumbling god knew that they were worried and god knew that they were hungry too he knew they needed healthy food to keep them strong so god told moses that he would send them bread from heaven that night in the morning thin white flakes lay on the ground all over the camp the israelites had never seen anything like it what is it they said to one another it's the food the lord has given you to eat said moses taste and eat this special food tasted like crackers and honey the people called it manna which means what is it then moses said each morning you will find manna on the ground get up early and gather enough for the day but do not keep any overnight but some people didn't listen to moses they tried to save some mana for the next day the next morning their mana was spoiled and it smelled really bad some people were lazy and did not gather enough for the whole day but the hot sun melted the manna and those people went hungry until the next day on friday moses told the people to gather enough manna for two days because god would not send manna on sabbath but some people didn't listen to moses on the other nights the manna had spoiled so they thought it would spoil on friday night too but it didn't and on sabbath no new manna appeared on the ground by the end of the first week everyone knew that they had to follow god's directions as long as they gathered enough mana for the whole day every morning they had enough to eat and on every friday they had to gather enough for two days when the israelites followed god's directions they had fresh food every day god took care of their needs and god takes care of our needs too god gives us our food today he may not send manna from heaven but however you get food it is because god provides for your needs let's praise god for our food [Music] [Music] hi everyone it's aunt frenita today's story is called whose side are you on [Music] the memory verse is from john chapter 14 verse 1. it says do not let your hearts be troubled trust in god trust also in me today's message is we can worship our awesome god every day have you ever had part in a program i mean a really big program in a church with hundreds of seats you feel important practicing for the program you mustn't make any mistakes but then you worry so much that you nearly forget your part that is about how joshua felt after moses died joshua walked between the rows of tents he smiled at the families he passed but he didn't stop to talk he needed some exercise he needed time alone to think so many amazing things had happened in the past few days joshua quickly reached the edge of the camp his steps got even longer as he headed back across the fields he walked on until he had a good view of the jordan river then he stopped and just looked the river was flooded and dangerous but the israelites were all safely across and in the promised land once again their awesome god had seen them through the people had just finished celebrating the passover soon it would be time to move on but moving on was scary the israelites had powerful enemies in this new land as joshua slowly turned in a circle he studied the great walled city of jericho big tall walls thick walls how small the israelite camp looked with jericho's walls towering above them joshua had no idea what to do how is he going to lead the army of israel against that mighty city they had no fancy weapons of war joshua shuddered to think of his poorly trained soldiers they were not ready for battle suddenly someone stood in front of joshua holding a sword joshua stepped boldly up to him whose side are you on joshua asked ours or our enemies if he were an israelite soldier he had some explaining to do joshua had not told any of his soldiers to leave camp if the stranger were an enemy joshua was ready to fight neither the man answered i am here as the commander of the lord's army suddenly joshua realized that this was no ordinary soldier this was the lord himself joshua fell at his feet in worship i am your servant sir what do you want me to do take your sandals off you are standing on holy ground the commander replied joshua removed his sandals and worshiped the lord what a relief joshua had been thinking about battle plans he had imagined there was to be a war and that he would be the general in charge but now he learned that the battle was the lord's the plans were already made and the lord was in charge joshua did not have to bear the heavy responsibility of leadership all alone the lord was here his awesome god was with him isolated place in the peruvian jungle since there was no land available in pazuzu juan and theresa heidenger decided to move to the region of puerto inca close to the pacitia river it was also a remote place accessible only by the river far from civilization they would need to be self-sufficient and provide for almost all their own needs one day teresa developed serious kidney problems and the only available medical facility was the maranatha clinic accessible only by boat from their farm the american owners monroe and patricia dierksen were self-supported missionaries who had opened a clinic in a place without any adventist presence they volunteered to risk all with god believing that he would provide for all their needs at their clinic teresa received proper treatment and a simple yet powerful gift the book the great controversy teresa was also invited to join the dirksens for sabbath services impacted by the book and the kindness of the missionaries teresa was baptized followed by juan his mother and finally their four children thanks to the missionary self-denying initiative all four of the heidinger's children were later sent to the peruvian adventist university which completely changed their future increasing their usefulness to both the church and the society today maritza holds a degree to teach biology and chemistry in the high school and is married to a pastor daisy is a food engineer who served as mayor of puerto inca and is now a member of the staff of peru's assistant minister of education elizabeth studied psychology and married a pharmaceutical chemist both actively serving in their local church in los angeles usa and edward who became a pastor is currently the executive secretary of the south america division of the seventh-day adventist church located in brazil as you return your tithe and give your promise ask god what he is asking you to risk for him today remember that self-denial and self-sacrifice are the fuel that ignite precious fruits for god may we put our desires last and god first [Music] these are the days of elijah declaring the word of the lord yes and these are the days of his servant moses righteousness being restored [Music] these are the days [Music] so we are the boys in the desert crying preparing the way of the lord [Music] [Music] the dry bones becoming god's flesh and these are the days of his servant david rebuilding the temple of craziness these are the days declaring the word of the lord now how many of you know if you believe that there is no under god like our god i need you to open up your mouth and stay with us that there is no other god like our jehovah [Music] oh oh [Applause] [Music] and good morning again to you my brothers and sisters i am so happy to see you today so happy to worship with you today claiming god's blessings for all of us on this beautiful sabbath day uh thank you for being with us today and thank you pastor howard i do solicit prayers for my uh baby girl my youngest daughter laurie who's been in the hospital for several days now and it's kind of on an up and down treadmill so call glory's name in your prayers this week i solicit you now with me as we prepare to share from the word of god father in the name of jesus we're so thankful for your grace and your mercy we're thankful for the assurance of your love and your protection and as we open these sacred pages of scripture today uh be in our midst be our teacher be our god be our instructor we pray in jesus name amen let me begin by saying today that i believe in god unequivocally unapologetically unreservedly i am his child you are his child we are the beneficiaries of his love and grace his compassions fail not they are new every morning and i am in spite of all that the devil has thrown at me i am a believer in the god of heaven and in the power of god i am a servant of god the god of abraham and of isaac and of jacob the god of moses and of david and of isaiah the god of peter james and john and paul the god of charles bradford and and c.e mosley and e.e cleveland the god of ariel wood fork and r b harrison i have not always let me make this very clear i have not always been a perfect child of god like andre crouch saying saying years ago i've had many tears and sorrows i've had questions for tomorrow there have been times i didn't know right from wrong but in every situation god gave blessed consolation and in my trials only come to make me strong through it all through it all i've always wanted to be in the will of god even when i knew in my heart that i was not i always wanted to be in his perfect will so so what you may ask is the will of god simply put simply put the will of god includes everything that god desires or wishes to happen in heaven and on earth i'ma repeat that the will of god simply put is everything that god desires or wishes to happen in heaven and on earth throughout the entire universe it is the one theme that all parts of scripture take up in one way or another the the will of god he has worked he continues to work to interact with creation with you with me according to his specific design psalm 140 verse 8 i desire to do your will oh my god psalm 143 10 teach me to do thy will for thou art my god first thessalonians 5 18 in everything give thanks for this is the will of god concerning you in matthew 6 6 10 jesus taught us once again thy kingdom come thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven so so just for a few minutes this morning i want to share the same biblical narrative from three different writers from from matthew from mark from luke and i have entitled these thoughts this morning lord you can fix this lord you can fix this and i'm reading today from from mark chapter one beginning at verse 40 down through 45 and there came a leper to him there came a leopard to him beseeching him and kneeling down to him and saying unto him if thou wilt thou canst make me clean watch watch this now saying to jesus this leper if thou wilt if if you want to you can make me clean lord lord you can you can fix this lord you can fix this and then verse 41 says and jesus moved with compassion put forth his hand and touched him and said unto him i will i will be thou clean and as soon as he has spoken immediately the bible says the leprosy departed for him and he was cleansed and verse 43 and he straightly charged him and will send them away and saith unto him see thou say nothing to any man but go thy way show thyself to the priest and offer for thy cleansing those things which moses commanded for testimony to them but he went out verse 45 says and began to pup publish it much to blaze abroad the matter in so much that jesus could no more openly enter into the city what a story what a story the jews believed the jews believed that leprosy came as a divine judgment against sin don't miss that outward sign of inward sin they believe that the bad luck is not just bad luck you deserved it you did something for god's punishment to come down on you and and the lepers themselves believe the teachings of the jews they taught that they were abandoned by god and cursed by god any people if you if i if any of us decided to try to alleviate or cure leprosy we were interfering with the plan of god don't miss that don't mis you you couldn't even try to come up with cures to help them you were getting in god's business and you needed to stay out of it and remember prior to this you know your bible prior to this there had not been a a cleansing of leprosy for 800 years since naaman no one had been cleansed of leprosy and and the jews believed that the lepers themselves believe it and jesus when he met this man he said lord you can fix this if you want to fix this lord you can there was no cure for leprosy so when when the rabbi who was the the minister of health when the rabbi declared that that you had leprosy and condemned you to an existence of psychological and physical suffering because the law the law forbade in a leopard to come into a wall city they were not allowed to be around other people their appearance was was ghastly they were they were more often than not dirty and ragged and disheveled and they had a handkerchief or a cloth over their mouth to protect protect them because the the runny nose the the the the the sputum the the spray from from their mouths and the the close contact with them is what spread leprosy leprosy was a skin disease it was it was a bacteria it was it was a an infection that got in their skin and in their eyes and in their upper respiratory in in in their body parts watch this you may have had leprosy for five years and not knowing it but then the outward signs would start to appear and and and and you would start seeing the physical manifestations of the leprosy which which sometimes didn't come in full for 20 years runny nose the the the the spray from the mouth we're not sure how this man's condition had advanced we don't know but one thing we do know is that he believed in the power of god he believed in the power of god lord you can fix this lord you can fix this and even the religious leaders among the jews who who sometimes skewed understanding of scripture they knew that there was no cure for leprosy and they knew from all of their teachings and all of their their prophecies and all not one person since neiman went down in the water seven times no one had been healed of leprosy or cleansed of leprosy psychological you were you was you were cut off from society and even there was no hope even among the religious community there's still leprosy today um it's it's not completely eradicated from the earth it's this infectious disease uh in 2019 the last year that i have statistics there were only over 200 000 cases of leprosy in the world 14 000 of them were children um it is it is curable today science says but the droplets the the the the from nose and mouth those things and frequent contact with people does that sound familiar to you does that sound like anything you've heard lately the frequent contact with people spread the disease and the lepers themselves as i say believe that they were cursed they believe that they must have done something wrong to deserve this terrible faith but this leper this leper that that matthew and mark and luke write about had complete faith in what jesus could do the question in his mind was not could he but would he lord lord you can't fix this you can take away the curse you can take away the stigma the physical deterioration law if you want to don't miss that i know you can i know who you are i've heard what you have done i have no doubt that you can do it lord will you do it and watch what he asked him he asked him lord i know that you can make me clean if you want to he did he didn't ask to be healed two two greek words used here oh my e o my a greek word that means healing he he did not ask to be healed he asked to be made clean healing healing will make you well healing will take away the disease it will stop it will go away like the centurion service was healed disease free healing is a good thing but this leper has to be when we get our word catharsis just just just just take everything out this bad and put all new stuff in uh cleansing included both physical healing and spiritual healing to be free even from the guilt of sin david in psalm 51 created me a clean heart and renewed right spirit within me this leper said to jesus i want to go beyond healing i want to be made whole completely catharsis i i want a complete makeover and this man his faith his belief touched the heart of jesus and jesus put forth his hand the scripture says and jesus put forth his hand and touched and touched this diseased man this this highly contagious man who had requested to be made jesus put his hand on him and he said to him i will be thou clean don't don't don't miss that don't miss that jesus said i will you you can you can fix this lord if you want to if you will jesus said i will be thou clean and all three of the writers matthew mark and luke used the word and immediately the leprosy departed from him immediately and then jesus gave this counsel don't don't talk to anybody or tell anybody what happened go straight to the priest let the priest see you don't don't don't waste time jesus didn't want to kill the man's joy jesus wasn't trying to rob him of his testimony jesus did not want to stop the celebrations for this man and his family jesus said there's something very important that you have to do the the rabbi the priest is the minister of of of healing and health in this community go let the priest see you first and pronounce you clean you see the priest and the priest only could restore this now former leper back to society go see the priests don't waste time don't don't get stop off at parties along the way don't don't give detailed explanation just just go to the priest because you're not even supposed to be here unless the priest says you can this world of ours isn't a mess i don't have to tell you that political strife racial divides war and terrorism hunger poverty national disasters global warming open rebellion towards god it's a mess right now today there are a few hundred people gathering in washington dc rallying protesting the support of the the january six insurrectionists they share belief system those people those those few hundred people who are who are who are rallying in washington today they share a belief system there are several tens of thousands of people in hospital icu's all around this nation the the the overwhelming majority of them are unvaccinated fighting for their lives against this covet virus i would submit to you this morning that they too have a belief system although i believe that is misguided that is their belief system just like just like the people who are rallying in washington that is their belief system the unvaccinated that is their belief system there are hundreds and hundreds of thousands of refugees in camps all around the world i i heard yesterday on the news that there are about 30 000 mostly haitian refugees at our southern border right now looking for a better life seeking asylum driven by their own belief system warning warning nothing more than a good life for themselves food on their table the ability to go to school help help for their children there are refugees that we have been watching evacuated from from from afghanistan for for weeks now they are in camps all around the world they have a belief system they want something better for life it is a humanitarian crisis even as i stand here today and i i ask the question like like david and like isaiah and like jeremiah and like habakkuk and like john the revelator all asked this question and i joined the course today lord how long lord how long you can fix this lord if you want to you don't need anybody's permission you don't need any committee votes you don't need any any congress to convene you can fix this lord will you this leper who wasn't even supposed to be in the mix came to jesus and said very bluntly to him lord make me clean you can if you want to you you can fix this you can fix this this past wednesday evening at sunset local time the jewish community celebrated yom kippur the obser observance instituted by god through the levitical priesthood uh the the most holy day on the jewish calendar 10 10 months 10 days into the first month of the year now you know we no longer have to bring sacrifices we no longer have to cut the throats of animals and let them bleed and drain the blood and offer sacrifices jesus did that john said behold the lamb of god which taketh away the sin of the world so we don't have to do that but but the celebration in the jewish community for for this day of atonement to to lay all of their sins before the lord to to confess and to forsake and to and to pray earnestly we don't have to do that because of jesus but i would encourage you just as this leper did to to to gird up your belief system what what you believe in and fall at the feet of jesus every day every day and in the words of the old slave song fix me jesus oh fix me oh fix me oh fix me fix me jesus fix me fix me for my dying bed fix me for my journey home fix me for my long white robe fix me for my starry crown lord fix me this leper this poor deranged broken hurting isolated leper said to jesus if you want to you can you can make me clean you can you can purify me you can sterilize me you could take all the germs and all the sin and all the stuff that caused me to be in this condition you can take it all the way fix me jesus fix me that's my prayer today for all of us and and you know what god wants to fix us more than we ourselves even want to be fixed you know that god longs to be a part of your life god god longs to to to do something special for you there there are families that i know of who are who are broken where where uh mother and father and children are not together they're divorced they're they're they're broken they're they're unreconciled there are people who are longing to be with those whom they love and those who love them society has done some some rough things to us and they they long from the depths of their hearts to be reconciled to be put back together with their family and their children and their loved ones and their grandchildren some of whom never get a chance to see them or talk to them or hug them or pray with them and we say lord lord you can fix this you could fix this but there are some things that that that we have done to ourselves that god wanted to not just fix but wanted to prevent from
