today I'm going to show you guys how to create a dynamic shapewear transition in After Effects and this is the transition that you see in my intro some shape layer goodness today I am Nikhil from York motions and without any further ado let's get started alright so yah we are in After Effects let's start by creating a new composition I'm going to keep it 1920 by 1080 make this 30 fps and let's rename it to main hit ok alright so now we can start building up our base of the transition so to do that I'm going to select the pen tool and we don't need any fill for this so I'm gonna set this to none and for the stroke let's make this really high and also change the color to a nice gray color of course you can use any color that you want I'm gonna go with the gray and create a line just like that holding shift so there we have our stroke maybe I'll make it this a bit more bigger or something like that ok then let's go and bring down the contents and add a trim part to this which will help us to animate it like so alright so let's create a keyframe on the end property go to 15 frames set this to 100 go to I guess maybe around 1 second should be good create a keyframe on the start property go 15 frames forward in time and set this to 100 so basically we have a pretty simple animation now I can select all the keyframes so I'll just make some room right here select the keyframes hit f9 bze those keyframes and then go into the graph editor now if your graph editor doesn't look like this make sure to right-click and select edit in speed graph then I can select all the points and drag the handle just like so and this one's just like so so we have a pretty interesting movement as you can see alright so if I hit you you can see there we have our simple animation now what I can do is select it and hit control D to duplicate it and bring this on the top also I'm gonna display this a bit so we have a little randomness as you can see then hit control D again bring this down holding shift and then change the color to maybe a darker gray just like that okay so this is looking pretty good maybe for this one I'm gonna make this up with her gray something like that hit ctrl C to copy it select this one first one hit ctrl V to paste it okay so there we have a pretty random shape animation so this is basically our base now is now the main thing is to add some detail to this and that is pretty simple to do so what I can do is let's select the pen tool again for the stroke I'm going to keep it somewhere around maybe 100 for now create a line maybe I'll create one just like that a bit smaller I guess okay let's change the color so we can see it more properly I'm gonna select the stock color that we have okay that is pretty good and then I can add a repeat of the trimpots again and animate this so I'll go somewhere on they create a keyframe go forward in time say this 200 create a keyframe on the start just like we did before but now I'm gonna select the start property keyframes and bring this closer with the end property so now we should have something like this you see the difference in the animation it's pretty simple but it looks pretty cool then select it hit f9 go into the graph editor and again I'm going to try to create a peak but this time very minimal so we have a very nice animation okay I think it's a bit too fast so select this and maybe track the keyframes a bit still I think it's a bit too fast so I can play around with the keyframes to find the right timing yep this looks much better I think okay pretty nice now I can just select it hit ctrl D to duplicate it bring this here and I'm gonna do this very randomly so I can select this go into the contents select shape and the pen tool then I can drag the point to create a much longer stroke something like that just so that it looks a bit random as you can see let's let's displace this a bit so something like that looks good make this bigger with something like that looks good yep there we go also I think I'm gonna make the shape color a bit more darker just not this one actually third one just a touch ctrl C to copy the color code and I can just use it on the other shapes as well okay so this is pretty good now I'm select the second one hit ctrl D to duplicate it displays this a bit bring down strokes just like that and then I can just move this so you can either use arrow keys or just hold shift and drag it and I can zoom in just to be a bit more precise and use the arrow keys and there we go you can see that little details adds a bit more nicer look to this and make this a bit small like yeah something like that okay so pretty happy with this let's do this for this shape as well I'm select the third one hit ctrl D I should have probably renamed the shapes but I just forgot to do that you should it's better if you do that you know beforehand to rename if it's very important renaming the shapes when you're working with too many shape layers if not you'll just get messed up I hope you don't I'm just gonna put this here and let's see as you can see the small details looks very nice okay pretty happy with this and one more thing I like to do is make this shapes a bit darker something like this okay so we get this really nice look now it's basically this transition is basically made up of like bunch of duplicate lines I can say you know let's say actually let's select this one hit ctrl D to duplicate let's actually select this one hit ctrl D and move this make the shape a bit smaller and select the pen tool and bring this point right or you just make it a bit smaller doing it very randomly see this really nice look and bring this here increase the shape layer select this one hit ctrl D bring this here on top make this a bit smaller and I can position it wherever that I want I'm gonna keep it maybe somewhere around there so we get a very different look then select the pen tool and make the line a bit shorter so you give this really nice look as you can see I think I'm gonna make the smaller lines start before hand before the big shapes comes into place so you can just maybe hit you select keyframes and bring them forward in time or backward in time yeah now these two shapes are starting at the same time so I can add a bit more displacement I think this just like so yep this is looking much better now let's start as adding some acts into this so to do that I'm gonna create a new composition call this maybe X head okay select the rectangle tool we don't need the stroke this time so I'm just set this to zero we just need to fill if you have selected a nice yellow color and create a rectangle just like that go into rectangle path one unlink this for this one and now this is somewhere around maybe let's go with fifty actually let's say this to 10 and set this to one hundred align this into the center select the rectangle path hit control D and then I can just rotate this or I can just keep you know change the size of this so let's change is 200 and this to ten so we get kind of a plus sign going to transform rectangle one and rotated by 45 degrees and then I can go ahead and add a repeater to this repeater to this and add four copies you can add number of copies that you want going to transform repeater set the position to 0 and the y-axis I'm gonna bring them down like so I think they have a bit too big so go into rectangle and you can play around with the size of this so let's actually go into transform rectangle and I can scale this down fit like so okay that is good move the shape layer here maybe okay and then I can add another repeater and just increase the copies number of copies going to transform repeater too and then again play around with the position so let's say we set it to somewhere around 150 it looks good and then let's create a new shape layer again I'll make this white and this is gonna act as a track mat for our shape so if I go right here and move the anchor point at the left now if you don't have the anchor point script you can select the Pan behind tool and move the anchor point just like so also make sure to turn on the snapping so it snaps in in two places that you want all right hit hit has to bring down the scale properties unlink this and now you can animate the shape also hit f4 on the keyboard to bring up the track mat option and change the track map of the shape layer one to off mat and now I can animate the rectangle just like that I'm gonna set this to zero create a keyframe on the scale go to around one second set this to 100 then I can select both the layers hit ctrl shift D to split them up and create a copy select the top layer hit s so get rid of all the keyframes again and let's actually bring this up a bit and change the I could point to the right let's play say it right here set this 200 create a keyframe go to 2 seconds and set this to 0 so we have something like this let's select all the layers hit you select all the keyframes hit f9 to easy ease those keyframes and now let's pack jump back to the main comp and drag the X composition onto the top scale is down like very small maybe something like so turn off the snapping up okay move around 40% all right so how you can see the small details looks very nice I can go to 2 seconds actually and hit n right click shrimp to work area cause the transition is gonna be just for 2 seconds and yeah that is actually looking pretty nice I can create more copy I can create more copies of this so hit control D to duplicate it I'll place one right here and add a fill to this let's make it talk control T place it right here and make this OH control Z actually select the layer hit control D place one right here to need to first for this here white okay so this all looking pretty good maybe I'll displace them a bit in time you can see okay so there we have our nice details for this let's go ahead and add some more so let's actually create a circle really quick so select the ellipse tool we don't need any fill for this I'm gonna set the fill to none and for the stroke I can go with three pixels and make this a nice here local law and create a server holding alt and shift at the same time so I'll create maybe this big and I can just place it anywhere I want someplace one right here control shift edge to hide the control layers add a trim part to this and now we can animate it just like so so let's say this to zero go to me somewhere around there create a keyframe go few frames forward in time set this 200 go back in time create a keyframe on start forward set is 200 so we basically have a really simple animation so app it select this hit f9 go into the graph editor and I'm going to try to create a peak just like we did before so we have this nice simple animation and a bit of accent as well and one more thing I can do is create a new composition again called this big X OB underscore X hit OK say the pen tool and create a line just like that I think I'll make it 5 hit ctrl key and change the width to 1080 as well ctrl D to duplicate the shape layer R to rotate it and set it to 45 degree of 90 degrees and there we go let's align this into the center properly ok looks perfect let's go into the main comp and drag the big X as well it s scale down the property of this really nice and small rotated by 45 degrees and there we go I think I'm gonna bring up the strokes a bit so we all just said this to 7 ok that looks much better I can place it wherever that I want I want this to appear at a very minimum you know like three to two frames so I can hold alt and close square bracket to cut the layer and then sorry alt and close open bracket and now alt and close square bracket set appears for few frames and then just goes out select this at control D please this one right here so now we basically have really simple elements added into our scene so I'm gonna add some more still at the pen tool and for the stroke I can go with around 50 pixels create some strokes like so right and hold alt and open square bracket hold alt and close square bracket a few frames so we have some shapes control D maybe at least one right select the shape place right here maybe smaller some bunch of elements you know animating your in there just to add a bit more complexity to the complete transition place one right here I think also you can scale that so they we have some elements going on looks pretty nice last thing I can do is add some strokes to this so basically I can just select any stroke that we have hit ctrl D to duplicate it bring this on the top I change the color so that I can you know I can understand it is a different shape make this very small make this yellow now you can see here we go Haiti you bring it so right over here doing the timing a bit control shift edge to hide the guide leaves so we have the small lines as you can see select the pen tool and I'm gonna make this very small me something like that nice small lines ctrl D to duplicate it and one I'll place it somewhere around there make or increase the stroke up it also displays this a bit so hit you so I can just mess around with the keyframes a bit there we go I think I'm change the position to so well like you okay so let's actually see the complete transition and yeah I think it is looking very nice now you can use this transition in many scenarios for your video edits for your motion graphics as well now to a pretty quick tip or a pretty quickly look I can show it to you guys is if I select all the layers hit ctrl shift C to pre compose them and let's call this T for transition here okay and we can add a vignette to this but we cannot use the typical method of masking the solid layer in this because it is going to give you too much of color bendings so what we can do is select the comp hit ctrl D to duplicate it say the mask double click invert it and add a U and saturation on this bring this down as you can see hit F to feather the mask as you can see we get a hell lot of color bendings so assuming so you can see right over here so now what I can do is add some noise to this maybe like two percent and boom now due to the YouTube compression you may still see some color bendings but when you do it like when you do it on your own or in your project you will see that all the colour bandings is gone now if you still get any like I can see very little bit so I can set this to four or three and that is gonna get rid of all the colour bandings plus the transition looks much more better you know it adds a bit depth to it as you can see right now it looks very flat but I can just add some vignette and there we go and you can also play around with the U and saturation but I'm not gonna do this in this one so that is a wrap for today guys I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and if you did make sure to subscribe comment and like see you guys in the next video till then take care thank you so much for watching and don't forget
