[Music] [Music] well hello you bearded bastards and allow me to welcome you back to tar n the land of Legends today we find ourselves in the spotted dune a rocky temperate wasteland this location is far away from the civilised realms out in the untamed wilds and we can see here a small group of scrappy dwarves and a whole hell of a lot of dogs like every a lot now these dwarves are called do rad to Valley or the bearded bear and as their symbol they've taken a bear but not just a bear no of course not it's a bear and an axe and the bear is striking a triumphant pose now the dwarves of the bearded bear are a bit eclectic we'll say and they've come to this place to found a new fortress their own fortress a fortress named Shoshanna bear all fur which translates to Fang mountain the bastion of beasts in the goal of their fortress is to have its defenses based entirely upon its pets which is insane I think yes these seemingly addled the dwarves wish to create a fortress defended entirely by the powers of Fang and claw hence the many many dogs here now then we're just gonna set them to work in the background here while I go over our plans and a little bit more depth now I'm intending this fortress here to be kind of a challenge fortress as in I've never tried anything like this before and I really don't think it's going to go over very well in most cases animals and war fortresses seem to be pretty poor fighters and I always find myself kind of disappointed by them in combat and so I figured what the hell why not put it to the test we're gonna do this fortress here based entirely around animals and then hopefully after it's all said and done we'll have some inkling as to whether it's actually possible or not now I don't intend done just using dogs here no in fact that's just going to be the starting point and I'm hoping we can actually get our hands on something a bit more powerful and that is the reason we're out here in the untamed wilds I was really hoping to see some creatures wandering onto the map that we could potentially use for our defense I'm not too sure what we could use exactly of course a bear comes to mind but there are so many other options too we'll just have to keep our eyes open for opportunities although I'm thinking a much better idea than just waiting out here on the surface would be to go down to the caverns below down there we could find some truly nasty beasts sure it'll be dangerous but yeah again these dwarves aren't in their right minds I don't think so they don't really care something else I should know is that when we started here we had seven dwarves of course as per usual but I made six of those seven dwarves be professional animal trainers because animal training is kind of a hard thing to level up for your dwarves and so I thought it best if they started out with a bunch of skill in it and we also have this one other dwarf here who is our leader her name is morale and she is an odd dwarf she never feels hatred towards anybody but she's also very unfriendly so it doesn't make any sense at all she's impervious to stress it also tends to keep her head in stressful situations which is just excellent although I suppose she did leave the dwarves out to this godforsaken wasteland to create a new fortress whose defenses rely entirely on weak war animals so maybe she's not all there well right now we're still working on the entrance to the fortress and we're taking far too much time on it we're gonna run into trouble in a bit I think but again these dwarfs are pretty careless and so I don't think it'll bother them too much okay we're working our way along a little bit here a couple Z levels down and I'm starting to work on the way into the fortress kind of got this upside-down J shape here and at the end of it I'm actually gonna start carving out our fortress and I'm gonna carve out this chamber right here in the bend of the J as a place to put our war animals so that hopefully when intruders come down around this corner here the animals will spot them and rush out to attack again I can't say it enough I don't think this idea is going to work very well at all but that's why we're here testing it today okay there we go the entrance is carved out as well as the animal pen a few of the dwarves are bringing war dogs to the pen now so that's good I'm pretty confident they could defend us from small threats like extremely small threats you know what actually I'm not even that confident but still it's better than nothing anyways we have the animal pen here and then over here we have a trade depo which is going to be very important to us because we don't currently have any farms or anything and we're going to have to trade for food and drinks of course I have no idea what we're going to trade because we don't really have much of anything besides the stones we probably should start producing something huh yeah definitely one of the good things about this area is that it's very close to the elves yes that's a good thing because if we're going to have a fortress whose defenses rely on animals then the elves are a good people to do some trade with they bring all kinds of crazy creatures from their forest home now if we move over to the left a little bit you can see our new meeting hall or something I'm not too sure what is going to be probably a meeting hall or some sort of a fortress hub anyways we're in the process of carving it out and in it I'm going to put a bunch of crafts Wharf workshops and just so we could start quickly pumping out crafts so that we can continue to live okay there we go just finishing up the meeting all rather carving it out I suppose and a good amount of time has passed a disconcerting amount of time actually we are up to 15 dwarves right now and we no longer have any drinks which is terrible but with those new dwarves that came in that migrant wave I set a few of them to be farmers and we do now have a farm plot here in our entry way kind of a terrible spot but yeah it'll do now that our meeting hall is carved out the next thing I'm going to want to do is come over here and make a downward tunnel because we still have to find those caverns that's gonna be very important we need wood and water actually especially seeing as how we're not a lot of drinks Oh would you look at that it looks like we have a new litter of puppies here actually quite a few Wow yeah a lot of new puppies well good I'll tell you what how about while these miners are digging downwards we take a look at one of the pups okay we have a randomly selected war dog here a dog is a medium-sized highly social mammalian carnivore it has a keen sense of smell and it can be trained to obey commands her hair is cream her ears are burnt sienna her tail is slate gray her head is pale taupe her front paws are black her rear paws are raw umber her skin is copper her eyes are bronze which is a pretty wild description honestly calico pretty much just colors all over the place well pop I'll leave you to it good no and there we go pretty much just as soon as I close that window we discover an expansive cavern deep underground excellent let's have a look all right pretty straightforward seemingly nothing too too special as of yet pretty dry for the most part although there is a little bit of water up here towards the Northeast I'm gonna start digging away down immediately now I had dug the cavern tunnel over here so that if any beasties come up from down there they will have to pass in front of our war animal chamber I'm also gonna be trying to not build any gates or doors or anything like that either just to increase the foolishness of this endeavor what you look at that it looks like the merchants have arrived excellent now we might not die and while the dwarves are trading away some of our new rock crafts with the merchants I'm gonna have the woodcutters come down to the caverns so we can finally get some wood as I said before that's going to be very very important because without wood we can't make cages and without cages we can't capture more animals having a look at our surroundings I'm not seeing much in the way of good animals to capture we have AK Rundle a tiny useless creature some giant cockatiels which might be too cute to do anything but also a giant great horned owl which is intriguing although flying creatures up on a surface tend to be very difficult to actually capture as you can see here we do already have some cage traps going in just a couple to start surrounding the entryway into our fortress but I'm hoping to have many many more than this even and actually if you look up this way here you can see another tunnel going downwards a tunnel that leads down to here yet another cavern lair I believe this second layer now we have not yet discovered much of it but it appears to be very muddy and not well forested at all so it's a good thing there's plenty of trees up in the first cavern lair it looks to be this lair that those crumbles are coming from and at this point there appears to be quite a few more actually it still though they would make a very poor protectors for our fortress unlike this little beauty up here a veracious cave crawler very interesting let's have a look at that shall we a voracious cave crawler is a huge cave monster with hundreds of feet moving along the bottom of its long body in place of a head it had an enormous toothy ma his skin is midnight blue very interesting you know voracious cave crawlers are enormous as it says like significantly bigger than a cow or even a moose which really is saying something though these creatures are not known to be particularly intelligent at all I think we could still tame them they just can't be trained for war as far as I know and I'm saying all this assuming we can actually catch the creature now having a look here the crawler is down in the third cavern lair that's right we actually just to discover this lair oh and what is this oh my goodness would you take a look at that there are two of them here and the second one is a female that is very very cool you know honestly I've rarely seen these creatures myself and when I started this fort in particular I was really hoping to see some of them so this is extremely exciting for me I'm just really hoping I'm not getting my hopes too high and catching them though but I definitely am now I know this is not going to work out like I'm hoping it will but I just ordered a bunch of cage traps to be built down here where we last saw those crawlers I'm not sure if they frequent this area oh there it is okay yeah one just popped up very cool I'm just hoping that dwarves can actually successfully build these traps without getting a mauled by this crawler that would not be excellent no but without risk there can be no reward no and what's this it looks like our miners have made an additional discovery down in the third cavern layer a vein of adamantine the legendary ore that is exciting and here it is just a tiny little bit of it here in the cavern wall well I don't suppose it hurt to just carve this little bit away right it can only really benefit us I mean come on now no let's hold up a second here I just spotted a crawler heading up the stairway into the fortress yeah it's heading straight in all right watching here now and would you look at that fin-tastic the orbs it looks like we have ourselves a voracious cave crawler that is excellent super excited about that and actually in these cages over here you can see a couple of crun dolls and so we did manage to get our hands on some crumbles as well whoo-hoo the useless things but a cave crawler that is something right there you know we just have to try to get that second one as well having a look here I do not see the second one anymore it could still be off somewhere in the caverns but it could also have just wandered away from the area in which case we would probably never see it again which would be a damn shame no not hold up a second and I'll tell you since we open up those caverns it's been a constant flurry of activity here it looks like the dwarves have spotted a gremlin a creature which needs to be driven away it looks to be right here in this tunnel and I assume it was headed up towards our fortress to cause some trouble how about we take a little look at the bastard what do you say a gremlin is a small humanoid creature with a mischievous toothy grin this particular one has low cheekbones a prominent chin a clear voice a somewhat broad nose somewhat tall ears green skin and yellow eyes I should also know that gremlins are very very small about twice the size of a cat and they also have this annoying thing where they like to go into fortresses to pull levers in fact I'm sure that's what this one was doing but currently we don't have any levers to pull in the fortress oh it looks like the idiot has wandered right into our war dog pit and has gotten thin a couple of times I think yes yes it was and I've known where the hell is headed right now it looks like the dogs are no longer attacking it and now it's just off to start a new life on the surface well best of luck to you gremlin hmm oh boy and in keeping with our parade of horrendous creatures to wander up from the depths here we could see a blind cave ogre that I believe just exploded one of our war dogs these are terrifying creatures utterly enormous - and there looks to be two of them heading directly for our fortress although one of them is now stuck in a cage trap which is excellent and here comes the other crawling along yep here comes it has stopped laying on the ground observing its friend perhaps who is now caught in a cage trap what are you doing no I know actually it looks like the second one here is pretty badly wounded from a scuffle it just had with a war dog as a heading up towards the fortress it's a pretty surprising actually I really don't know what it's doing right now it seems to be content just laying next to its friend here its friend who is now being taken to the fortress no righty no there we go okay so now this one's caught in a trap too so we now have two blind cave ogres which is okay as we saw there they really aren't the best combatants apparently see this is exactly what I'm saying animals and dwarf workers always seem to be kind of disappointing like these creatures here ar e Norma's in fact you know here let's take a look at them a blind cave ogre is a large cavern dwelling humanoid monster it has a gaping mouth with a many sharp teeth it has no eyes and only two digits on each hand and foot their skin is white and so yeah they are nasty and terrifying creatures huge - like that can't be understated these things are almost as big as a cyclops or an item in only really a bit smaller than a giant and so while they are a bit smaller than other similar giant kin they are still considerably bigger than an elephant even yet still look at this poor sad animal all broken apart by a warthog oh boy it's a shame we couldn't like train the thing and then like put armor on it give it a weapon perhaps then it would be a real formidable force but as it is I'm not sure how much use things like this could be a damn shame man constant activity I'll tell you it looks like an elven caravan from Adelaide - fee has arrived which is very good as I said they do tend to like to bring animals with them and actually we had already done some trading with them in the background and we've managed to get a a Jag jagwire how the hell you want to pronounce it he doesn't matter we managed to get one of these big cats roll which is very interesting because they are a bit bigger than our war dogs and they can be trained for war too which is just excellent not many of the creatures that you can catch are trainable for war and when they are trained for war then they didn't a fight with a bit more skill and they also tend to be a bit more aggressive as well which is very important let's have a look at this creature how about a Jaguar is a large muscular spotted feline found in tropical jungles it is solitary and stalks and ambushes its prey she is muscular her hair is orange with black spots her skin is pale chestnut and her eyes are green yellow very cool definitely cooler still is that I saw one of these things wandering around outside the fortress a while back but I didn't think much of it but you know on second looks these might be excellent creatures for our defense also another interesting caveat is that these things have a litter of about three cubs at a time I believe and I'm thinking that's gonna be important when it comes to defense it would be nice to have some giant hulking creatures but it doesn't take much to take those big beasts down and so if we have a creature type that is trainable for war that's a plus and also something that can replenish its population fairly quickly that's gonna be very important as well I'm thinking I still have no idea and more likely than not I'm completely wrong anyways moving on if you have a look at our animal stockpile here you can actually see a couple of other types of creatures as well yes we are pulling creatures in from the caverns like crazy and so let's just keep having a look at them these capital D's here of which we have three Archer alpha and aid Rafa is a large long a body dude grazer with a thick mane that feeds on the tops of Tower Cap mushrooms deep under the earth this one's hair is yellow his skin is ecru and his eyes are brown now you want to talk about big creatures these things are pretty huge as well draw tha's are about half the size of an elephant so yeah they have some considerable heft to them but they are just a benign grazing creatures they can be fairly dangerous but are not known to attack you certainly can't train them for a war and so I'm not too sure how useful they can be to us still it might be useful to get a pasture full of these things so that we can raise them for me in bones and let yeah that would be a pretty damn fine idea I think might have to put some thought into it especially because we have three of them two females and a male a perfect opportunity next up we have a selection of rats including a large rat that we caught we only have one and it is described as a huge rodent found underground this particular one is incredibly skinny and her hair is black her skin is dark brown in her eyes are black as well not large rats are of no use to us period they are a bit smaller than a dog and they cannot be trained for a war or anything like that plus they only live about three years so not much we could do with that really but then we have the giant rats which are quite sizable indeed yes giant rats are about the same size as a grizzly bear or a lion somewhere in there but they're not aggressively they also cannot be trained for war plus they still only live for about three years and so despite their fearsome appearances they would not make great fortress protectors either a damn shame but we're probably just gonna end up butchering all the rats although we did just manage our hands on this new creature here who is now placed it safely on our animal stockpile I am very excited about this one because it seems like the most likely candidate for a fortress protector so far this here my friends is a jabber now let's have a look at it a jabber er is a huge monster that lurks in caverns deep under the earth it uses its wide beak to reach down and pluck up unsuspecting intruders this particular one is average in size his feathers are purple his skin is white in his eyes are yellow now then a Jaguar is very very big almost as big as an elephant actually and on top of them they can be trained for war as well which is very very exciting now if we manage to capture a female then we could put them together and have a steady supply of eggs build up and eventually we can have a pretty formidable force of Jabir's which would be extremely exciting on top of that the products that come from a Jaguar are worth about four times as much as products from other animals so if we manage to get enough of these things that we can start butchering the extra ones and make some extremely valuable products from them yeah you know I am boarding the jabber or wagon now I think the focus of the fortress has to turn towards these big bastards but just one of them is not going to do us much good at all we really need a female still my bearded bastards and bastards it would seem that the gods are smiling upon shisa and all bear all fur because look what we've been gifted down here in the caverns second cavern lair we just managed to get our hands on a female jabber what the hell are the chances of that that isn't luck right there that is not luck not at all no this is a gift from the gods there's no doubt about it I mean right that has to be the case what are the chances but now the question is which of our gods granted us this boon Daler god of metals no stitched Meg God of laws probably not the mangy scars of sucking perhaps god of nightmares dreams tonight in darkness again probably not oh I know who did it dwarves we are favored by the deeps of questing that is definitely the case definitely fools in the deeps of cresting is a deity of the scraped gold the folsom most often takes the form of a female bobcat and is associated with caverns and mountains and surely it must have been the goddess of caverns that granted us these - jabbers there's no other explanation and because she did this for us we have to be sure to thank her properly Masons we'll need more statues made get to it immediately there we go excellent dwarves thank you very much the deeps of crusting will be pleased I'm sure and you may have noticed that I actually pause the game it went out and changed watch statue looks like and so that's why these look like little Bobcats here you may have noticed already I've been trying it out recently in these short four episodes kind of a neat little cosmetic Trek to mess around with anywho zooming out of it you can see our new meeting hall yeah I was kind of on the fence about making that big room down there our meeting hall and I decided not to instead our meeting hall will be up this way here surrounded by these rooms a whole bunch of them and I'm hoping to put our animals in these rooms each room will be devoted to a different type of animal just give me little place where we can keep an eye on them and where they can stretch their legs I think that'd be pretty nice just got a few other touches to put on there before put the animals in though in what would give those pens finished I also have another project out here right outside our main gate what it's going to be is kind of a retractable cage I guess it'll be a square and each of the four walls will be a bridge that can be lowered and I figured that inside of this pen will release a couple of blind cave ogres I'm not too sure what else we could do with them so I figured this would be better than nothing I know we do now have five of the brutes so maybe they'll be a bit more effective in combat I don't know but I suppose we'll find out my original idea was to carve out chamber in the wall of the entryway into the fortress and then put these blind cave ogres in there that would be a bit easier but I really don't want them anywhere near our fortress oh wait you know what I'm a fool scratch that just came up with a much better and easier to implement plan just a moment we'll just rip this stuff down it'll take two seconds in just a moment oh boy here we go our first big challenge you know I was really hoping to put our war animals up against a goblin siege but it looks like our first challenge is going to be a Forgotten beast its name is pest wrap a towering hairy spider it has a curling trunk and it belches and croaks beware it's poisonous bite okay all right I'm poisonous bite really as far as Forgotten beasts go that's not too bad I'm not gonna get my hopes up because the only way we can defend against this monster is a pack of war dogs that's it well no matter it's not like as much we could do about it anyways we're just gonna have to let it happen and here we can see the creature moving in through the first cavern lair straight towards the fortress oh it is killing one of our draweth us and ho boy this thing it does is spray webs which is just awful that's terrible we're basically screwed yeah here it comes ok moving straight in and it's at the fortress level I paused the game and we're gonna start taking things they're slowly the thing has a poisonous bite but I forgot that because it is a spider it does have webs as well just by default this is going to screw us up royally right not too sure what it's doing right now I am advancing time slowly but for some reason it seems to be kind of stuck here at this corner as this dwarf slowly ambles down the hallway towards it oh and there we go we have some webs and that dwarf has died I don't know why I pause there oh but now it's going and advancing towards the war dogs sprang webs all over the place the panting war dogs are now completely webbed up and the spider is just waiting in these dogs do not stand a chance not at all well this is gonna be bad it's gonna be really bad actually like super terrible umm what to do what to do I don't want the fortress to end like this I really really don't we got these to jab roars we're favored by the gods damn it we have to keep going somehow well all the dwarves are in the fortress right now besides that one who just died and we do have a military squad it's not a good squad not at all but some of the dwarves I believe have like you know battle axes you for cutting trees and mining picks used to mine so one of them could maybe get a Lucky Strike in on the thing that's really the best we can hope for they are on their way right now and I'm hoping to catch his creature as it exits the war dog pen and if this squad can't do the job then yeah we're screwed speaking of which it looks to be finishing off the rest of the dogs there and there might be one left in there and besides others just to the heaps of dead war dogs I am so sorry my pups but we cannot forget that we are favored by the great Bobcat we cannot fail here dwarves we will not fail here dwarves the future has just obliterated one of our dwarves who was unfortunate enough to take a peek around that corner I'm sure the dwarves in this hallway could hear the shrieks of the dwarf as it was torn asunder by the spider probably a little nervous I would imagine couldn't blame them at all they said this isn't gonna go well it's not I'll tell you what just gonna double down on the foolishness here I just put every single dwarf in the fortress into squads and they are now headed down I don't looks like the spider is moving it is now out of the war dog pen a dwarf is da hate I'm seeing some webs here come on get in there dwarves good at all I think all those doors and that squad are dead yeah I mean hmm the dorbz are gonna come down this hallway here see the creature who's just gonna cover them all with webs one shot of webbing is going to just cover every single dwarf the entrances hallway come on we need that lucky hit dwarves I had said originally that this four is going to be defended by beasts well let's show this spider that we are the most dangerous beasts around for the Bobcat let's do this dwarves there you go get up come on come on somebody get a hit end just break one of its legs smash its head in come on please one of you just gotta get down lucky hit please no nothing no luck nothing at all well that's to be expected population is now down to 16 dwarves I think we had nearly 50 when this started yeah and the spider is completely unhindered as it marches to the fortress slaughtering everything in sight dwarves are falling like leaves while the puppies over here are just losing their minds I'm so sorry pups God this is a cruel all right let's uh gonna speed things up a little bit here yeah the spiders just going crazy now killing dwarves sprang webs the puppies are falling absolutely monstrous but it's not like there's much we can do at this point I don't think you know I suppose that's what we deserve for trying to defend our fortress with such a flimsy premise I'm just foolish really I'm not too sure what the spider is doing right now I guess destroying a workshop I think that's what it's doing taking a while well you know at this point we have basically no dwarves left I think there are five two of which are children and two of which are already gravely wounded in our little makeshift hospital here we only have one fighting dwarf left and it's Edsel our expedition leader well I'm gonna tell you what I have the game pause right now I don't along the spiders gonna take over here kind of hard to say but our boat Edsel has a little plan he's assigned as a minor right now and does have a pic and he's got a little bit of digging to do and just because we're at the end of the episode pretty much I'm going to skip forward a tad I'll be right back right here's the plan we're gonna take out this tunnel right here a very very narrow tunnel this entire plan is going to rely heavily on whether or not that spider stays in that same exact area which it did not know I moved okay great bah that's fine just a little bit of a modification here should still work out yeah stay right there spider it's gonna have to get all these damned animals out of the way first yeah that's right eggs I'll bring them up towards the entrance thank you spider is still in that spot fantastic we have to set this plan into motion go ahead Edsel carve away this remaining stone almost there okay now here we go for the great Bobcat let's do this Edsel taking things slowly heads up moving in hacking away the stone and there we go a section of the cavern has collapsed oh boy right on top of the spider phenomenal huh okay well I'm gonna tell you why at this point the fortress isn't doing well at all I'm sure you could see that much and at the current juncture there are only four dwarves left the spider must have killed one of the five that remained for dwarves now two children one is severely wounded and EDS old all starving terribly thirsty what will happen now I'll tell you what I like a challenge but I'm not sure if I like it this much at this point our only hope is that a new group of migrants arrives if that doesn't happen then there's not gonna be much we could do tell you what I don't really have a good feeling about it but I think we're gonna do one more episode of this fortress it'll be a mess I'm sure well it already is a mess but I'm kind of interested to see how this plays well my bearded bachelors I certainly hope you enjoyed watching the rise and fall of Fang Mountain but the question yet remains will Fang Mountain rise again well we're just gonna have to find out next time one way I thank you for joining me and I certainly hope you'll join me next time here in schist on all bear all fur Fang Mountain the bastion of beasts and until then my bearded bastards [Music]
