that subscribe button guys like and comment the comment section is out of control get in there tell me a story of getting super dehydrated always excited to hear them guys this video is sponsored by simply save more on them later the biggest for the channel is of course big daddy unlimited big day limited being the costco the gun world 99 cents for the first month after that price goes up is it worth it i think you're worth it we also want to thank another sponsor which is of course mira safety uh we will be doing some tear gas tests with these but these are well regarded in the community as being excellent products to make anything from your particulate filters all the way up to more specialized ones uh in any case mira safety makes great stuff and if you want to larp like your intent these are always good options ladies and gentlemen may often forgotten and not by me l1a1's welcome to the channel today we're going to be talking about a very cool rifle uh not a weird piss or anything like that from the atf but we have the ds arms fail this is their full-length classic profile barreled edition right here and it is absolutely beautiful so we'll do a little bit of talking about this but before we do we'll do what we always do which is full disclosure what is my relationship with ds arms and all that kind of stuff before we move on so to start off with um ds arms has sent me several fails to review anything from that short barreled osw that i reviewed earlier all the way up to this full length and mution was provided for by lax ammunition so definitely go and check them out but in any case there's no exchange of money beyond the weapon so understand all the biases going into with that this is pretty textbook as far as my reviews go so without further ado let's get into it now if you have been living under a rock and are not familiar with the fale in any shape way or form let me give you a little bit of education so the fal is a very long serving rifle it is a semi-automatic 7.62 51 otherwise known as 308 um caliber rifle it is semiautomatic short stroke gas piston system and it is so ubiquitous and so widely used among nato forces that it has often been called the right arm of the free world so they are definitely battle proven rifles in every shape of form of course those rifles were typically either fn or licensed copies from other countries including brazil south africa and many others now in this case we of course have a ds arms one so we're gonna be doing a review on how this stacks up to the venerable and well-built fns and copies and we'll talk a little bit about that now before we move on a lot of questions have been what's up with the paint job and all that type of stuff so the paint job is of course a rhodesian styled paint job a lot of people ask me are you trying to make a statement no rather i think that the this rhodesian style paint job is a very interesting footnote in history of different camouflaging techniques that have been used throughout time in order to camouflage the rifles now of course in the fal when i was looking around for it i wanted to find a iconic paint scheme that was used on the fal now of all paint schemes that have been used on the fal the rhodesian in my mind is perhaps one of the most iconic what's very interesting about it is like many instances in history when that war began to occur those forces quickly realized that the black all-black fal that was done with a black enamel paint for those particular for that particular brand of ephales that they were carrying were easily distinguishable among the bush because of that the government and those soldiers began to camouflage their rifles using what they had which was primarily a vehicle-based paint and so we have this very odd kind of baby poop and dark green color that they used to camouflage the rifles and it worked fairly well so it is an interesting footnote in history and i thought it was pretty cool i thought it would do a little throwback and one of the more iconic i think paint jobs that has been ever run on any rifle throughout time in history so that is why we have it there this particular paint job was done with the help of arizona response systems a big thank you to them now i can go on and on about how battle proven the fal is but let's talk specifically about the ds arms fail which is what we have right here so without further ado we're gonna do what we always do and we're going to go tip to buy so starting off here at the very front we have a belgian styled um comp flash hider belgian styled because it is of course not a belgian one this is u.s made for compliance and all that type of stuff but how do they work well just like the original belgians they they do kind of they're a master of none jack of all trades so it does a okay job at recoil compensation in an okay job at flash suppression luckily we do have a full profiled 21 inch barrel so you don't have nearly as much flame to tame as you would with a short brailled one so the flash hiding aspect does work pretty well now if you notice there are ports down at the bottom so the problem with this is if you're firing it in the prone or near the ground you do get a lot of dust that's being kicked up which could possibly give away your position so it isn't my favorite muzzle device but there are multiple different muzzle devices that can easily be installed on fl pattern rifles so it's not that big of a deal moving down to the barrel the barrel is 21 inches so we are fully utilizing that velocity on those 308 762 by 51 rounds and because of that you get both good velocity and excellent terminal ballistics with this particular build the barrel itself is fairly good a lot of people have complained about accuracy issues with the fal and that's probably due to a combination of many things but as far as the barrel is concerned i believe that it is fairly adequate for the job for which it was intended this particular fal is doing between two to three moa which is a pretty good example for an fal fails aren't meant to be precision rifles so they are not designated marks and rifles well they can be designed to such and they can be beefed up to be like that but in the case of this fl is meant to be a battle rifle two to three moa is excellent and perhaps this rifle could do better the limitation is more than likely me but from what i've heard between two to three moa is considered very good for an fal is about what you expect to get from it and that's pretty typical of many battle rifles that were designed of this era but in any case the barrel performs very well it is a little bit more lightweight you can get heavier barrel so it does heat up a little bit more quickly depending on your firing schedule so let that be a note moving back from the barrel we do have the handguard so the handguard is just your standard polymer type now the thing with it is if you want options you want to be able to mount things you want to go tactical on this you can of course get a quad rail of some type but i wanted to get a classic pattern fal now a couple notes about it first off it does ventilate fairly well so you do have the gas system and the barrel cooling off fairly effectively we have these little inlets right here those are for a bipod the ds arms fl does come with a bipod as an argentine surplus in this case i wanted to have a lighter more handy rifle so i removed that bipod but understand the handguard is everything that you need for a battle rifle in my mind it is well designed feels good in the hand and like many other early fn products um it just feels good to me now if you're a shorter guy the length of pull can kind of be a problem with the fl due to the length of the stock to where the handguard is but if you're about five foot ten and above i'm about six foot that works very well for me now moving from the handguard to a very interesting aspect of the fal in general is the adjustable gas block so the adjustable gas block allows you via rotation of this gas block right here you can see it clicking over right there all the way to more open bleeding off more gas versus being more closed off and trapping more gas that it can be tuned for a variety of ammunition or for certain environmental conditions for example if i'm in a very wet very muddy environment and i'm constantly getting grit in my gun i might dial up that gas system a little bit give this gun a little bit more oomph to ensure that it's going to be ejecting and feeding rounds versus if i have a very clean gun and the ammunition that i'm running is slightly hot and i need to bleed off more of that gas i can easily adjust that to what i need so just like any other fal ds arms did a good job with their adjustable gas system now for me and the ds arms and this goes down to a couple other things but i found that mine runs pretty good about the middle position i know fl attics and the fl files will probably get in here on me but despite the gas setting that i've used with the ds arms i haven't gotten 100 performance and this goes for any uh more full-size fl that i've gotten anything from the osw to this to another 18-inch fl that i had they've all encountered some issues so what it kind of comes down to is ds arms does seem to make a good fal but the quality control does seem to be lacking at certain times despite that i have found that ds arms is quick to correct any problems but rarely have i gotten a fall from them that out of the box is just absolutely perfect on the osw the extractor broke right away nbd they replaced it and it's been good for the thousands of rounds since then on this particular model i've had ejection issues all throughout its time that's had it slowly been breaking in ds arms of course going to take care of it but like i said before i'm not getting a perfect fal straight out of the box from ds arm so that's something to note there that's not so much a problem the gas system itself but rather a problem with the qc issues that i think are arising from ds arms now while we're on the topic of the gas system we do have a short stroke piston operated system on the fal that is a incredibly reliable incredibly robust system in fact during the rhodesian brush war the rhodesian army has noted that the fal in their opinion was a superior weapon to both the sks the ak-47 due to firepower and the g3 now it should be noted that i believe they had spanish g3 so i'm not sure about the build quality on those but i think that the g3 is a great weapon but in their case they vastly preferred the fal for a variety of reasons so there should there should be something to be said about um how reliable and how well it was designed to have kind of withstood the tests of time from the point it was designed to the point now at which it is still being used by a variety of armed forces guys we said we talked about in a little bit and here we have it simply safe so this video is sponsored by simply safe so you want to give a big shout out to them simply safe is a home security system and why i like it so much is because unlike a lot of other security systems we kind of put everything in at once simply safe is more of a do-it-yourself type system buy what you need as you need it customize as you need it and as you have the funds to do so so for example in my gun room i've added glass break sensors door sensors all that type of stuff now all those alerts can go right back to my phone letting me know who's going into the room i can also put cameras in that room and that goes everything front door glass break sensors fire alarms water detection all that stuff is included in simply safe so definitely go check them out can't recommend them enough in the event that the power goes down you have contingency plans in place so they are a good option in my opinion go check them out big shout out to simply safe thank you to them for sponsoring this video let's get back to the fao now moving from a gas system you typically do have a carry handle right here now in the case of me i removed that carry handle because i wanted a more handy rifle that was easy to maneuver and i just didn't really have a need for it but it should be noted that if you want to carry handle it certainly comes with one now moving back into there you can look at the bolt carrier the bolt carrier is a sand cutter bolt again everything i've seen it's been it's fairly well made i haven't had any specific issues with it and i think it is a good addition to the fl that you're getting from ds arms now my favorite thing about the fal has always been the left-handed controls for a variety of reasons and i'll talk about them right now on the left side of the weapon as compared to the right on many other weapons like the fnc the ak-47 you have the charging handle so if you need to do any actuation of the weapon it is done via the left-hand side i think which is a far superior manual of arms meaning the things that you need to do to operate the weapon compared to the ak-47 the akm ak74 fnc many others um the fnfl was definitely forward thinking and positioning the handle on the left side not that they were the first ones to do so but in designing the rifle they did an excellent job now once the bolt is locked back you'll notice we do get a bolt hold open feature with the fal which is awesome so again i really do like it quite a bit it's very ar-15 like and to to say that is to say that the ar-15 is uh fnfl-like but when we need to release the bolt you of course can pull back on the charging handle to release it once there is a live magazine in there or you can hit the bolt release right here and you can send that bolt forward now with the magazine out that button can also be used to lock the bolt back so if i push up on it i can lock that bolt back in order to do any number of things that i need to do so that is fairly well made if you'll notice also there is a channel leading into where it contacts the bolt carrier but once that charging handle is forward that is covered by its dust cover right there so again very well designed the fl is a very reliable system in many ways due to the way that it was designed in order to keep dust out of the system just as important as a magazine design is for a system so is the magazine locking mechanism so in this case we have that nice akm styled rock in platform and while it isn't as quick as the ar-10 style platform or the g3 or even the scar-h of course with a newer platform that's very well optimized what it is is incredibly reliable the system will not lock up in the cold and it is very well done so that is something to be said about this particular mechanism in addition to that the magazines on the fal are very well designed we of course have our classic 20 rounders right here which work very well and i think those are kind of the gold standard because 308 is very heavy so you can get your 30 rounders of course you add a lot of weight to that system in this case we have a ds arms 30 round magazine from them it has been incredibly reliable so as you can see right there that does add quite a bit of length to your overall gun but again reliable just heavy now another cool thing that you can do with fales is we can take these bren mags right here and we can actually fit them to the fal so they work with it so then we have our nice bren mag right there another cool thing that you can do i think that kind of stuff is interesting i learned that from my good buddy watermark78 big thank you to him but uh you know it's just something uh something interesting a little little piece of knowledge from the history of fire design so again those do have to be fitted it's not the easiest thing to do but i think it is well worth it and those all work phenomenally well there are of course drum magazines if you really want to make sure you have more than enough ammunition for all those problems that you might run into so those also work on the fl i do not have any drum mags i tend to use the 20 rounders because the rifle is incredibly portable in that way so there are a couple ways to run reloads if you have to do an emergency reload you of course can roll your finger forward in order to press it it can be a little bit more difficult on more modern false you do have a mechanism on the magazine release which reaches back it's easier to hit on these more classically designed fl's it isn't quite as easy but it is doable you can hit that release it put in your next x magazine hit the bolt release and you are loaded alternatively you can hit that magazine release with your finger knock it out with that new mag and then you can take that new mag and rock it in drop the bolt and again when i do that simply reaching from there to that bolt release and i'm getting it so it is a fairly smooth process now that being said the manual of arms that comes to the reload isn't terrible i think it is easier than the akm but that is the fal on the reloads going from there we do have our safety the safety on the fal the fncs some of these earlier fn products is not my favorite with a more modern grip it is kind of difficult to reach those and again i do have medium sized manhands so if you're giant you're probably going to be fine but a lot of people note the same thing which is it is generally a little bit more difficult to actuate so it's not my favorite should be extended a little bit more and lowered and that would be perfect just like an ar-15 i hate to say it but the ar-15 is a very ergonomic design so not the best but it works for what it is now the grip a lot of people complain about the grip angle since it's too steep again that can be replaced but if you're running a classic fal it is fine it works well same thing on the fnc it feels good in my opinion so there's that again just gotta work that safety a little bit there and of course as we always do go ahead we're gonna go set trigger together so i'm gonna put on a little unchained melody put your finger right over mine let's go and feel that trigger together so the fal does have a military style trigger so we do have about an eight to nine pound pole which is what you want from a military weapon to be clear so let's push into that so we have about a millimeter of play hit our first wall pressure pressure pressure pressure pressure release um a little bit mushy on the release but it feels fairly good let's go ahead and fill the reset it's not much at all so it goes right back to that wall it is a fairly short but heavy trigger it feels pretty good actually for a military trigger i think it feels very good um you do want a little bit higher weight both to ensure you don't have accidental discharges as well to ensure that you have adequate spring pressure to detonate those harder military primers in any case the fal trigger is not a competition trigger it is not a gucci geisley trigger or anything but it does work and it is adequate in my opinion not incredible now that brings us to the sites site radius is pretty good on the fl all the way from the rear peep all the way to the front uh site right there now the problem is it isn't optimal i do find other battle rifles such as the m14 and the g3 to have better sights in my opinion many people have noted that they don't enjoy the iron sights in the fall now despite that being said i've been easily engaging targets anywhere from you know 100 to 300 of the fal with iron sights as long as i'm doing what i should be doing so sites are adequate but they're not great so that's just something that you're going to get with the fal that is not a knock against ds arms it's just the way it is and again if you want a better sight you can get a top cover that has a rail but doing a classic type fal this is what we're dealing with right here moving back from there we do of course have our takedown lever here at the back so if we go ahead and we press that back unlock the weapon that way we can start doing all of our maintenance on it and of course we have our classic full-sized fale stock i find these to be incredibly comfortable in every way and i like them quite a bit if the length of pull is too much for you you probably will need something different but i've always enjoyed the fl stocks and find them comfortable and the overall length of of pull on the fal to be pretty perfect for me perhaps uh the designer was about my size i would like to believe that but in any case um what does it feel like to shoot well that depends on your gas setting and a couple other things the ds arms fal is a little bit snappier than say an m14 now that being said it can of course be adjusted based on the type of ammunition but overall i find the m14 to be a more pleasant platform to fire the fl is of course still fine automatic on the fl is not fun but in semi-automatic like with those ds arms fail it is manageable um the when the fl first came out it was noted to be a fairly pleasant firing weapon system and i definitely agree with that for a battle rifle it handles well it recoils well and again because it's adjustable based on the situation that is awesome now when it comes down overall kind of talking about it how do i feel about the ds arms fal i feel like there's some qc issues that are affecting this becoming a better product i think in some cases you'll end up getting a product that needs to be sent back to be worked on ds arms and the customer service is very good so the issue will be fixed just be aware of that you'll want to get your weapon out of box play with it get it ensure that it's working well and if it isn't get that taken care of so that is kind of my only issue with ds arms of course ds arms is one of the largest manufacturer of fl's right now in the us so it is hard to get another kind of example of them this is essentially what you have now for the price which is around 1700 street price perhaps a little bit less i think you get a fairly good product especially if you get one that's just good right out of the box or even if you get one where you have to send it out and then it's good i think you have a good rifle the fal is always a good choice and just ensure that it's working well and you can't really go wrong with it so final verdict fl is a very cool rifle ds arms a little bit kind of unstable there but overall i think they'll get you taken care of and you'll have a good battle rifle on your hands of course understand that the fl is a little bit of a dated concept and a dated rifle and there have been upgrades to the ds arms false that i think are very much so needed and we'll talk about those in a further review but if you're looking for a classic type fal i don't think you can go wrong with the ds arms fal so get out there definitely try them out go shoot them and see if they work for you but the biggest thing is as good of a shooter as you are with this gun or anything else if you don't practice none of it's going to matter if you're not shooting at this often if you're not training often you're still going to be a crappy shooter so get out there and get training tons of great guys to get training from um tony cowden hilly strategic bear solutions cogworks all those guys go check them out get that training become better at what you do become that weapon guys training matters get out there and get it and as always i've got nothing else for you get away from technology every once in a while life is a little crazy and you need to ground and root yourself in nature a little bit it's gonna make you feel a little bit happier a little bit more centered and that matters so get out there stop watching youtube get out there and go watch that stuff ladies and gentlemen thank you so much for watching you know if you've gotten this far final shout out to survival dispatch survival dispatch is a service for survival information as a former serial guy it definitely matters get in there check it out and a final shout out to my patreon people you guys have made this channel amazing can't thank you guys enough i've got nothing else for you
