what's happening guys dan here dd speech up another day in the shops that clearly means i've spent more money because that's all i seem to do lately so i bought a bunch more hot rod parts on the way home from work today i'm hoping i'm done buying stuff because it's just it's killing me right now hundred bucks here 100 bucks 100 bucks hundred bucks anyway i started working just a little bit i did get the alternator and all that hung the way i wanted i ended up using this chrome uh pulley the other had a bit of a walk to it you know i tried to straighten it this looks pretty good um i did have to modify this bracket just a bit to fit on the water pump it's where i decided to go off of i think it should be i think it should be fine i did the reason i started i actually pulled the headers off i changed the header gaskets because that one was all beat up and actually just crumbled in my hand and i put a little bit of high temperature silicone you can see it in there just right on those two pipes where it was leaking i think these are old headers they're a little beat so let's give them the best chance we got thick thick gaskets and everything i didn't do the other side but i do have a spare uh well i have a spare gasket i didn't use it and that size easier to get to this is the paint side because of all the break stuff so i want to make sure this is all done and the alternator attaches to this one so this one is a she's a job so you want to make sure it was done right so proper done everything the belt i ordered actually was a factory 1955 chevy with a 265 generator with no power steering and no air conditioning and it's fine it was a little snug to get on but you know what we got she's nice and taut we're right in the middle of the adjustment i got her i don't know i think that's pretty straight if you ask me um everything worked out good there we're not touching anywhere it's tight to the valve cover but you can see through so now all we got to do is wire it up that'll be tight actually where the wire is well whatever we got that and that and this will be charging obviously now with it hooked up the water pump she's a runner well she's a turner so the water pump turning i won't be so fearful i got some miscellaneous pipe plugs i'm just going to plug that off just kind of snug her up just we're not going to leak any cooling out that's where the temp center is going to go i do have some heater hose we'll just loop that and i got some miscellaneous rad radhos i had a couple and i went and picked up uh one of these kind of goofy long ones the problem is they don't really well i think they do make a rad holes for this exact situation but they don't have at the local parts store so they make after-market ones if you're a tri-five guy i believe so it's a v6 radiator mount with a v8 motor so you gotta think to yourself the rad hoses if this was a well the v8 would have the radiator behind the core sport it's a very short hose and then if the radiator was in front with the six cylinder the motor would be longer so it actually uses the same hose but what we've done is we put the v8 with a six cylinder radiator for maximum clearance and then we moved the motor ahead three quarters of an inch so there ain't no uh hose for that at the at the local napa or whatever so we're gonna make do with what we got in the past i have used the factory hose cut it put a piece of like uh copper like like shower pipe in there it's worked we might do that we'll see see how far we go this stuff i'd like to get it full get the water in there make it all happy we've got parts and parts and parts and parts so let's get started we should be able to have this thing plumbed full of fluid i've got underneath get the transmission hooked up oh drive shaft my buddy ryan over at domar trans look at this took a piece of jewelry paints it up it's all nice we use my measurements hopefully they're right i always worry about that but i think we'll be okay so we should be able to slide that in he also gave me u-bolts this will be like done like drive line done tonight driveline done and then brakes on the next one and then see if she goes okay i'm done yapping oh i also got a water neck to go straight try five so let's get the radiator in i think everything else i'm done there will start piecing this thing together we've encountered our first problem this minty radiator which i love and uh i said if i paint it black i think it looks too modern and it'll just suit the rest of the motor i mean we're aluminum head small block yeah it is what it is the problem i'm running into is this is actually got v8 mounts on it so you either chop those up turn them around practice welding aluminum yeah i don't really want to do that as you can see it's hard to do one hand in here but if we try and jam it in we're making contact so what i did drop this grip on it what i ended up doing i took the old core support that i was going to use and didn't and these were just tacked on so i was originally thinking i could just bolt them together and then use it again but it's kind of tacky doing that so if i just weld those up paint it black i think it'll look just fine don't really even know the difference and ultimately if you want down the road you can slice it down and be brand new so i'm going to cut the other one off get these cleaned up get them welded in place and actually i'm going to bring it up just one bolt hole's worth because the filler neck is just barely touching uh the the cross member or whatever so i move it up just a little bit then i can get the rod hose under it'll be a perfect fit so yeah we'll get the other one trimmed up make them look nice and burn them together it's been two hours i accomplished this looks fine so is it okay got this on let's start hooking it up i gotta take the water neck off no big deal bolt breaks okay no big deal my bad i had it on the ratchet the electric one well i spent two hours oh these are still hot or not but welding on miscellaneous this and that i mean look at me i went through torches out i had everything just given her um i ended up drilling it re-tapping it and which is fine the issue i've run into is a bottoming tap it's got a little boss on the bottom so i got i don't hold that focus that much threads so i'm gonna call that good enough but it's supper time so i'm gonna take a break because this thing kicked my ass i mean it would have been easier to change the intake manifold i have another one exact same one but uh whatever this is fine so summertime come back out and then we'll uh carry on i guess granted this does seem like a lot of tools and chaos to install one radiator and one water neck but we made it happen it's full of coolant doesn't appear to be leaking other than everything i spilt down there the water next good so really what else is there looks like unless uh well it's not going down so it's not leaking out on the ground and it's not looking into the motor so when um what else we got going on oh i put my little flexi hose in me top one trim to fit and then i did this uh that's pretty custom little loopy loop um i will run eventually to the heater core but i think i might just order a heater core put a new one in because let's be honest i was probably rotted or at the very least i got to get a couple of valves so i can plumb that in with valves and we can close them if the heater cores junk or it's you know dropping summer time you don't really want to heat means so got that dialed i'm anxious to get that drive shaft in hopefully my measurements were correct because if that goes in and that goes mint we're good if it doesn't then i gotta take back the gun tomorrow and pay him more money to fix up my mistake which is never a good one common but not that good so do that and then well under there well if that fits it will start working on the transmission so anywhere i put the line but i use that push lock stuff which i really like i'm just gonna use the radiator has two bungs for a cooler this isn't gonna be a real race car i mean i know i put the headers on a few things like that let's be honest it's street car that it'll be fine we're not gonna overheat the heck of the transmission a bit of a converter in it but i ain't too worried about it we're not uh we're not racing this thing if we do we can always put a cooler on with uh with not a whole lot effort we've got lots of room we can put the fan right in there actually we could run a mechanical fan on this i wonder if it would be too far away i really do not like electric fans i feel like they're just a problem i know you get horsepower with them and stuff like that but i just i just dislike them a big honking fan just works all the time but it's already wired up for an electric fan we can put one on and be done with well it's nice and red okay i'm going to slide it in there jam that thing in and carry off my evening whoo this runs good she loud we got the fuel tank hooked up i just put uh like five gallons in it it's blowing coolant everywhere it was pulling fuel runs good had oil pressure obviously temp gauge on nothing wasn't running long enough anyways still sounds like it's a bit of an exhaust leak i think it's the collector down there because i reused them i tightened it up and it got quieter going through all actually running a few times i got all the headers i think sorted out and tightened up burnt my arm was pretty awesome and i thought these would get hot eh that's something for tonight it's good i'm beat it's like 11 o'clock at night we probably pissed a few neighbors off but we got ourselves a runner driveshaft fit i'll slide in there tomorrow ryan domar transmission give him a call uh great guy hustles in a hurry had done in like a day so it's fantastic [Music] here's the fun point today sucked but it was fun i will see you guys tomorrow next day so i've done some cleaning up it's always the worst you start packing all the boxes and boxes together you start just kind of mentally doing the tally of how much money you spent but anyway i've been dreading it i gotta get under the car it's so freaking cold actually i left my uh iced tea from yesterday on the ground in the shop chief rose so it's like it's like a slushy anyway call my back there so what we got planned i got a couple of fittings to change these will go right in the transmission they change from like a stand standard kind of flare deal to like an an and then we got a couple of different i got a 45 and a 90 a ends and then these here are just pipe plugs that go from pipe to a n so that'll be the bottom of the radiator because there is pipe plug something we'll probably do pipe plug out probably a couple of 90s i'm hoping i'm thinking and kind of swoop around i got this stuff this is a push lock 300 psi basically it's like hydraulic hose and it works real good i love this stuff so we'll do some sort of something with that we have our converter bolts so it's going to go in lock tight obviously then i think we'll probably hook up kick down i got to put a dipstick in the motor which i bought i don't know where i put it but just knock that in a little bit silicone i think it might bolt to one one of the header bolts get that i think that's everything under here then we can put the front clip back on i got to fix the hood well the nut in there but we should be able to kind of put all that stuff on it's pretty good under the car i'll just i'll show you a few things i don't think i'm going to film a whole lot because it's cold and i'm cranky and ultimately it's running hoses but driveshaft let's look at this driveshaft as always brian did a great job look at that perfect fit ryan domar thanks buddy look at that i put a little grease in there so it would fit in easy but we got probably an inch or so so we got lots of lots of travel in there lots of engagement that's all good shifters all hooked up but i'm sure i showed you that but these here i probably should have done this when the transmission was out but behind these these are uh for like a flared in so these should just come out they don't tighten up with the threads they have a little like a banjo uh like kind of like a brake style like a little copper washer in there so we'll take those out the other ones you'll just thread the bin and get a little tight and tighten and then we should be able to run those out a couple of 45s to be good and then we got to get away from the spinny spin i don't want them getting wrapped up in there like i said put some of those converter bolts in there i run it out around the frame follow the fuel line and go from there i mean on hard line typically they actually run i believe right through here we could do that maybe through the engine mount i'm not really too sure we're not going to have a fan we're going to have an electric fan i think i've decided on so you just want to make sure it's away from anything it's going getting caught away from the exhaust which i think we're okay and away from the steering and that's it i guess you know what i should probably do is uh maybe secure all this suspension together i might be smart hey bud anyway i'm gonna get started on that i'll bring it back and kind of show you how it turned out uh first line is in so it's very simple we're gonna follow the fuel line i will put some attachments down but i'll probably run two side by side it goes up around in there we go this is the little adapter so that's just pipe to a n i think it's 6 a.m that's 5 16. so i'm not a huge and aficionado but there you go so that's that will tighten that up i'll show you how these pop in they're so easy now that's being said it's easy but this line i'm pretty sure is like five bucks a foot or something like that so we're putting like a a 60 dollar with a line plus these fittings are like five bucks each so i mean it'll be a 80 dollar set up front to back which you could do with just hose or metal line or whatever heck you want i just like this stuff it'll never leak you'll never screw up and if you ever had a transmission line blow off before you'll understand that this is worth it in my mind i'll get the camera set up we'll get this one pushed together real quick and then i'll run it i'm going to actually run the i go from the transmission and to the front that way it's easy to trim and work up front here versus under the car and yeah we'll do that we'll get the converter bolted together this is how easy it is you want to have a nice square cut so i just use a razor blade on like a hard surface i mean you can get those uh you know like a little spear kind of cutter and all that very common you can use anything you want a knife even side cutters you guys just try and make it square off this is what it looks like at the end so it's kind of got a goofy looking barb and that's it i spray a little bit of oil in there i think you can use hot water maybe i forget the instructions really sad do this i've been doing this it doesn't screw up on me and you literally just jammer together so it's definitely snug no bones about it but if i can do it you can also put it in the vise i like don't crimp it but use it i kind of hold it in the vise there you go that ain't coming apart no matter what you do so we'll get this uh spun on the transmission uh so i'll just feed it through from this way we'll run to the radiator and then it's done it needs transmission that's it jump ahead um as you can see by the leaks i have started it and have made sure there's transmission oil in it so it's all good um the one bonehead thing i did it had a plug where the speedometer was i filled it all up and then i put the speedometer gear in of course it yacked all the fluid out so i had to refill it but hey that's how she goes got that done i did put the dipstick uh tube in you can see that i checked it so we pulled up with oil a little bit i put just a little bend on this uh brake thing i probably will just take it apart and slot this and move it up but that's good enough just so it's not rubbing i took that collector apart fill it full of high temperature silicone because it's just clacking away it's kind of dry i mean that's i might buy some collector gaskets we'll see but it also come apart so it's kind of waste of money it's just my own psyche i don't like hearing it go quack quack um what else do we do i think that's it i do have the timing light out so we're going to fire this thing up now a lot of times people set the initial timing and stuff i really don't care about that what we're gonna do in this is we're gonna there's a dial back timing light so we're gonna dial it back see my little mark i want to put uh probably about 36 degrees all in on this thing and then wherever it is initial is where it's going to be so basically you the distributor works two ways it has a vacuum advance so it'll start as it sees as you accelerate the vacuum changes it'll pull timing up and at a certain point once it's going already the centrifugal weights will take over and get the full advance so we really care about the vacuum that's nice for kind of part throttle and you know traffic but all we really care about open stuff to set the initial or the uh all in so i'll be you know get it going rev to a few thousand rpm it'll be fine uh everything else is good or lines i haven't mounted them yet but they're okay they're not going anywhere so i'm fine with that so i want to get that set we'll see if it has gears which i mean how could not motor is good it's a new transmission the drive shaft's good unless the rear end is piled up but it does roll and doesn't make a bunch of clinking and clanking i didn't take the oil in it but what we're doing will be fine i don't need brakes so it'll be kind of put in gear and then put a neutral let's stop and then kind of go vice versa back and forth or shut it off or whatever but let's timing check the gears put the front clip back on that's what i'm leaving for tonight i'm tired i've been giving her the next video that pile of parts going on which will be brakes and even the brake system is mostly done with the rebuild to complete rear brakes and re-plumb some of the front but once that's done i'm thinking we could move it just a little bit all right let's set the timing okay back door's open i think it's in park double check yeah throttle disconnected not that it really matters put your muffs on let's do this [Music] so that right there is 36 all in and then uh i had the back advance hooked up and had 12 when we were just sitting there uh idling so that's perfect get reset we'll check the transmission and yeah we're getting there ride i need better luck thank you all right sure is pretty good she wraps pretty good let's bang that front clip on [Music] well there we have it a running i'm not going to call the driving 55 chevy nomad but it's moving we don't need brakes yet that's coming up next so we have been getting a lot done i could have been skipping some stuff here and there i could have taken it for rental block a little while ago but i want this thing to be done done done so everything i'm touching i want it to be proper so there's still a little bit of metal work to do around the sill and around the back but the tailgate and stuff i haven't got to that yet and we still have to figure out the driver's side door i kept hoping i'd find one i found a bunch but they seem pretty ratty i don't think i'm any further ahead than just making the sedan door work so that'll be another project coming up i think all the trims here that i got through bw so i should be able to test fit all that which would be sweet what else we got going on oh lug nuts so these wheels for every reason the shank style lug nuts i have are too thick like the diameter of them is too big to fit in these wheels so i do have a set of really skinny kreger lug nuts i'm going to try those out those would fit great i got to buy more of otherwise we'll take this thing into the speed shop whole tire be like fix this or you know put that steel wheels on it or something like that whatever we gotta do we'll figure that out that's a future damn problem otherwise brakes are the next step so we got shoes drums wheel cylinders we got a plummet e-brake stuff like the whole kit the whole hopefully tomorrow's video the brakes will be done like done done so everything we're doing here has been like cooling system done motor done transmission done driveline done that'll work getting there but uh thanks for staying along for the ride let me know what you think in the comment section i always love reading them they keep me pretty motivated but that's really for a night it's still early it's probably eight o'clock but you know what i'm calling it this thing kicked my ass yesterday and i worked pretty hard today to make it all together i really thought i'd have this all done yesterday and breaks today so i've learned my lesson i'm gonna lick my wounds go inside of a good night's sleep i'll be right back at it thank you very much for watching see you in the next video
