yo yo yo yo this your boy and aw8 what up is DJ EF any Street chance [ __ ] podcast make some to properly introduce these two icons in my my eyes definitely one of the people who motivators of the culture people who push the culture forward people who stood by the artists I remember being down with them I'd never sold under a hundred thousand my first week they make sure your artists when they get behind them they're now calling theirselves servants hmm and they rich as hell how do you get richer and get more humble at the same time is of less something that me and you have to learn the girls greedy bastards a fact right now we got two of my favorite CEOs two people who helped made me a man when I was coming from boy to being a man and having money and not knowing when to do it at people who've shape and mold me and told me go out there and bust your ass it's only right we had a conference room exactly let's make some noise for Leo calls and Kerala goddammit leo you got you got one of the best hip hop stories I ever in my life and my whole a luxurious 19 years was I remember when ja Rule was getting like kind of played out it you didn't clear a record for Fat Joe and I did a ja Rule video right and you know most executives they want to meet with you and they say you know who come along the Leo said bring your whole crew is that bring your whole crew I think he gets this job video and he comes me so yeah right track studio and he has all my boys there he puts the video in and he goes how do you like this video I say you know I like myself so I'm looking at myself I'm like he said do you know what I think I said no he said I think it's popcorn at the time I like popcorn popcorn is cool and he goes ja Rule won't exist in four months because of the records he's doing why would I invest in nori but nori to be like gyro right so he said to me nor we if I cut you right now what would you believe and I said blood and he said now ask me the question nori so I said Leo if I cut you right now would you bleed he said Run DMC sucka MC did he ask me the question again he says so nori if I cut you right now what would you bleed I said super thug he said exactly the car service is made me go see for road if it wasn't for that exact move I wouldn't have one of the biggest hits of my life which is nothing homeboy I came to party let's make some noise how do you keep him so well with your artists like that like you could you could you could um you could like set it to me like nicer but you didn't so mm-hmm I want to do to you and to my artists to my comrades how I want to be done on but holdin that wasn't that was in English let's do that again someone help me what's the saying you do unto others how you would want to be done to yourself so oh I only want the truth mmm I'm so tired of the cryptic language I was telling people upstairs there's this guy that I loved and adored his name is Joaquin and he used to say to me it's all good I used to say what the [ __ ] does that mean I want to shoot a DMX video tomorrow let's say it's all good and I'm and I'm I'm so exhausted trying to figure out what people mean I just want people to tell me exactly how I'm doing I just did a speech upstairs I go to Kevin I said 1 to 10 he said for I said I said how do I get it to attend next time ok that's it he didn't he didn't say it oh it's a nine point five five you know oh because I just want to I want to improve so you know when you're on stage or when you're doing this you want people around you that give you constructive criticism you you want to be the biggest the best nothing is hard cast in the world we all we all sorry so any of that's basically the reason why I keep it so gully is that that's how I want it done to me all right the reason why I never walked around with security guards is real thorough people have Plan B C D and E you don't get in trouble with thorough people if you allow them the ability to go to their plan B if you [ __ ] their ability to go to plan B that's when you get in trouble that's when you have to walk around with security guards okay but you can't be mad at me when I tell you your records are stiff it's over no one cares or spinning it because then they could go to plan B but when you tell them a stiff record oh it's working I need a few more weeks and it just gets deeper and deeper and you get colder and colder that's when you get in trouble hmm so I've always kept it very very honest and direct because that's just how I wanted it's a beautiful thing now Kevin louse keV I remember me being on a label and you did something that was like so important you you made us stay on the road like the red man's the method man's the Noreaga is the cameras the Juelz Santana the freeways at that time and like oh we wouldn't get like the artist HOD named we were like I don't want to say B list but not B list you don't say let's not say B let's work on the rise on the rise and so we party never got the two million dollar budgets but we will make that to man but we would earn that two million and it was almost like you felt better like you know what going out there what was that your approach like the artist has to hit the road in and touch some babies in and kiss kiss girlfriends I think what was important for me may not I being a former artist being being out on the road if you don't touch it how you know what the bag feels like I smell like me so I wanted you guys to always touch your fans alright we like baggies nori what's the new slogan [ __ ] the cake we want the bad ok we don't we don't got the champagne yet so I'm sorry so no it was just all about you guys not in not being distorted you know sometimes you have a hit record then you go by the big house and you sit up in house with your friends mm-hmm and then you forget you know really what made it you wanna mean and what it what it felt like to have that fan and even to this day is why the guys that your name they could all go around the world exactly and make a living that day because you kept touching the fans kept touching the baggie and that was part of it and that's a certain era it's a loss you know now you got labels they'll say his we're not worried about your toy we don't we're not involved in that just your money right no no if you [ __ ] up on that you [ __ ] my money up too so we got to make sure three 6300 series that you're always working I never managed nori never managed to neither the guys but I always managed yeah right you're missing every went when [ __ ] went down I got the call I don't get what was going down when he went down I got that call so I was always in and the role was a good friend to us okay so now how hard was it for you guys because at one point when I thought Def Jam I thought Leo Kevin Russell so how how how hard was it when it was like you know I know you went to Atlantic first before you started 300 but how hard was that decision to say I'm gonna leave the place that I you basically built so let's be clear that I sold the company to Universal and I went to Island and Mercury and formed we founded Island Def Jam so before Atlantic there was five years you you you conveniently forgot okay listen if you're not busy being born you're dying so that was beautiful it's we make coffee table books I flip through the pages I see friendly faces and moments in time that I adore and love but I'm about to present so you know that once was it was a beautiful memory it's nice that people recognize me and give me that for my contribution but I don't live I don't you come to my house there's no FYI this is who I once was okay live with the past No so I'm only focused right here and right now I want to continue continue to contribute be a great partner to Kevin and my artists and until I can't contribute I'm gonna be on the court and when I'm on the court and I go forth a tree you're gonna get kicked out by my elbows okay simple as that hmm it was funny it was funny you know you know I came I was from Baltimore so meet me come in and as an intern you gave me it meet me coming up we all started his intern Russell was it [ __ ] intense what my guys are working at RadioShack and then Russell Simmons hired them from RadioShack without our records Tower Records okay you know the thing with me all of us you kind of sopin we bled defconn's yeah it's not even a thing and selling the company didn't mean we didn't still love and live for the company building a new company but knowledge after music didn't mean that we left hip hop I responsibily and always totally uh I really only want to do this with him you know I mean at the end of the day but we got to continue to build the pyramid so we can continue to get bigger and employ more people and keep the culture moving so we never stopped and I think right now what you're seeing is a certain sub young people who are living in today because they they're native to the internet sometimes we get caught up in our memories of what we did and it impedes our possibilities because we anything is possible anybody to be alive today and don't feel anything is possible so when Leo said yeah we want to do it again you and I'm gonna do another record company now I thought it was crazy to do it I said yeah let's do it so to me if we're not reinventing ourselves every day making ourselves better put more tools in our toolbox I don't think we want to build bigger houses and better houses and more places for people to live and grow and so on yeah Kevin's always thinking about others and I so appreciate that I just gave a speech for a thousand people upstairs and I made reference to the cold crush brothers and nobody knew what I was I was about to say so bold a smack a man with his gun this is one more this is mother don't even run now that's bull come on they're gonna see me rapping here to explain who the Copan with charlie chase is one of the best days of my life me and you have was trying to do business since 1998 when I was on penalty ruckus and you realize that I was the only one moving on penalty breakfast I think he's trying to buy penalty effort that's very it I'm just getting re which is some smart move we was trying to do business for years and then when I finally get to Def Jam I signed the papers and I believe you had Cristal there I believe you had some Cristal there and I smoked a blunt in the war room it wasn't your office it was in the war room yeah poke the blunt yeah you took like two hits and then I asked you Leo what's that picture right there and it was you on the Run DMC tore your nose was bloody and I said you had a fight you said no sniffing cocaine all night listen that is classic back in the disco you got mad kids re talking about the blow right yeah so back in the disco fever days let's get to national think anybody actually knows about the disco fever 169th in girona and um sweet g was the doorman and host we used to there was no one that didn't have a hundred dollar bill mmm dancin that's how we danced like that so it wasn't because I was sniffing blow we're all sniffing I just thought that story with zeal because I'm sitting there expecting him to say no I had a fight please come on to win you know he's your biggest fan by the way thank you thank you thank you right they did say who are you what are you doing here and I remember you was the first person we all to tell me I have radio skills and I'll bring her back now a refresh your memory it was a time at Def Jam where nobody was messing with Starbuck Wow nobody will go up there and he had to hear dis prodigy the week before and when he had mentioned my name I just was furious so I did not a box of Def Jam rules and I went up there and I handled star like you know I don't mean like handling but you know I'm saying like I destroyed the interview and leoch hope called me and said you must come to the office now and I said Leo I'm mad tired he's like and I'm hungry he said he goes say that again he said you must come to the office now I'm tired I'm hungry he said first off you say you must eat album the pink tea cup you prefer me to pay my god you say sniffles sweetie I always imagined you imagine that vegan leading yoga twisting used to eat three meals a day at the pinky cup used to UM but you told me you said because it was something that sparked in that interview way you know star was the man in New York at the time and he controlled the interview but it was something that I did when I control it when I flipped it back on star and he was like you I believe you said I want you to start the artist development company it was something like that but this so that this would led to this so this is Helios responsible what like we got day-day here you guys are involved evolving with these new artists now how do you find these artists are they hot or do somebody bring them to you or so let me let me explain to you how they they work the school day they had a record in a very specific and important Club that was starting to work and when our in our executive very talented partner of ours Selene brought us the record he said I just want you to listen to the patience of how this man raps and there was something so beautifully patient about how he held on to some of those phrases and those words it was obvious that he was very talented and so bow-bow-bow anything David let me just tell you something my man you would - or the people who if you listen you can be the most successful person ever but what's gonna happen is success is gonna [ __ ] with you and it's gonna tell you you ain't gotta listen because we all go through it where you got to listen you gotta go crazy to know that you you're not crazy you gotta go crazy once right you crazy like you already know when you form in Atlanta Fourth Ward over Lana Boulevard southward over Galilee okay and now so how did you I had got involved with 300 through nitty beats no shut out nitty you know um but nearly had a strong relationship with um Kevin no I'm so shut up Kevin Laue you know um so you know I guess they had a great relationship and you know by my telling having with um native beats I guess you know and linked up with Kevin and you know at this situation happen but I appreciated them right you know and I appreciate the team for working on we hear it for hard to have you we don't even have new artists here but we all put his foot down the record was popping in one particular Club what club was that look or should I look or look or okay okay that's what she'll where we important man I'm just telling you man nor nor yes let me take over the off let me just explain something to you first of all I'm humbled to be here oh I mean always mesmerized but when someone actually wants to hear my words it's I'm humbled he imitates you that's how much we want to hear the word I don't I don't take it for granted glory so Bravo to you thank Bravo to you travel to your whole crew let's go we've also got Lord Jamar on the building yeah yeah I must say you're busy being born and the fact that you are understanding the new digital era that's right that this is a powerful radio station and you don't need a signal you decided to get some [ __ ] champagne and some liquor and get your man here and and into a podcast the amount of influence and power that you have by your voice your interviews in your perspective is just fabulous because you know what it is leo um see a lot of a lot of media has never been a part of the culture so this is now people reporting the culture from inside the culture it's like if Jordan will undermine yourself to Jordan but um maybe maybe it's okay yeah okay after Jordan plays the game if Jordan is interviewing the artist it's like it's some people consider it cheating but it's about time real [ __ ] found a way to cheat but listen if I had a 19 career a 19-year career and I wasn't being cool with everybody like it all makes sense now like I always kept great relationships I always I like to tell you thank you mentally you know I'm saying like Kevin Laue helped change my my life gracious how about daddy's operations it's so yes it's gracious so you will come to us now we know you did rapper I was a mistake it was a mistake they was born they you almost fell asleep there they were Warren guys don't worry about who you want together I'm sorry Ellie you know I just gotta take a number three numbers lay it down there you know they were right they mad that you know a guy who never went to to college is running their job better okay but listen man you guys have been I love this DMX story with DMX jaw was broken and you hey Ron for you and you still knew he was a star with his jaw wired to a vision like every every rapper mm-hmm so the real story was I drove up to Yonkers with earth because he wanted us to hear him by 2:30 still wasn't there and the Rough Riders were trying to present every Tom Dick and finally X showed up hmm mouth wired shut obviously in pain and started rapping in all the rappers the pizza man ran out the door they just got shook and I like to say if my mother was there with me she would have said that's the one it's that obvious the air changed when he walked in the room even with the Jawa even with the Jawa it was special it was a special special oh I got him the hair on my my back of my neck just stood up and then was it your idea to say i'ma drop albums this year I think it was Kevin's idea no I'm not taking all that okay yeah it was definitely the Leo's idea and and I'll tell a story for him DMX didn't put on an album he changed culture yes he did their first album changed culture yes so part of being a good person is the ride the wave and so and la people are X had 100 records X X felt was his job right extra I went wake up every day number do three or four songs five or six songs he took it like people necks crazy we know it's a guy you know but but his work ethic when it came to him doing music he got a bobble acts got a bottle of good and bad right or wrong and so the world was ready for it and Leo said you know let's do what let's destroy why we've them and they they doubt us they can't do what we do and X came out but didn't a lot of artists try to keep trying to you know kept our do it after the money nobody was successful with its drink right I'm gonna give you I'm gonna give you some real you want the inside I'm gonna give you the inside I was about to give up the game I was about to retire what know just before X I was about to retire puffy made everything Technicolor and shiny and bad boy was running [ __ ] on the Chiney Technicolor [ __ ] and Def Jam represents black and white and shades of grey and I looked at my crew and I said man I don't think I can contribute anymore and then I found X just when puffy made the locks Technicolor and that's when I knew I had to pull out on him and start shooting it okay I carried in my breast pocket a black-and-white photo of the album cover of Polaroid it was X black and white you remember that yeah and I said this is the reason why I'm still gonna do this cuz I was so infuriated of what they did to the locks remember yes that log says Street [ __ ] yes and they turned them into some high Technicolor [ __ ] and that was when we said enough is enough and that's when X came on the scene cuz I remember even a video the first video looked like nobody cared it looked like height Williams messed it up we carry carriage so oh my bad it was so authentic it was like like you know videos was costing yeah it was costing and for them happened like the the record was exploded but the video was black and white yeah I'm like what doing it they kind of scheme and didn't the whole thing came out play that was that was awesome was amazing he X and a shout out to earth kind of an x10 movie was doing for three two one mmm-hmm and air would say yo X got it going on that record you know is LL Redman master minute and so I had to go talk everybody sorry and when he says they helped the dock everybody looked at me said Jesus Christ it was not it was nothing you knew at that moment you know I mean he was the Nexen you you just imagine all those Todd being the original movie boy to math mad at time and ran it at time they're just kids stay out listen Nora we're gonna have to do this under you know multiple sequences man yeah I'll see you got I got a long career here um day they's gonna be in the spot for a long time um Kevin's not going anywhere so invite us back and we'll come back and chop it up with you and give you some more stories okay nori yeah is that sure my bottle yet why but you said that Russell was an intern for someone who did he in turn for I'm Russell almost started from the bottom yeah you know cuz it you know him every you know were partners and everything but I wanted the same something you didn't even notice nor the first thing you said today he was not about your record not about a how hot you are anything you said you gotta listen gotta listen and to just add a load in them to listening who's ever addendum I never heard that I want to I want to honestly say like when you find an artist that does listen you willing to do anything well it was nothing I couldn't call you and get you to do it was nothing that you can call me if we do in this moment right here data that's appreciate it coming from somebody that had it every which way you know me that you can have ups downs rounds I remember we were doing nothing record and I said yeah we need to put more that had to go commits him you go to the [ __ ] studio and that's the real really something and I'm just you know I wanna I want to say this um speaking of dead quote you just where he was speaking on like Kevin Laue told me did you know it was in the label no it was like home all you gotta do is listen so I I'd say all my friends from know my my friend right now there's a French way I wanna I want to propose a toast yes please I want to propose a toast to let's make sure that we get out and vote thank you you want to know about [ __ ] up the game if we don't go out and vote it's gonna be problematic yeah okay supporters this is something that's very important to me because you know you guys are obviously where I wanna be but how do you be careful what you wish for how do you guys make you know great career make this money but still have the same Drive like I don't want to rap no more because I'm not doing it 100% no more so I've got to do other things so I choose not to spit my arms no more for now you so did you see me five months without you guys seemed like like I didn't call with Leo um recently and Wheatley um I called him a mogul and Leo said the Mogu was cool but I like to be called a servant like that thing that struck our audience everybody kept hitting Issac Stern coding all wants to be called a servant but serving like how do you guys be so successful have these accolades but still have the same Drive hmm so I love what I do so I have no interest if I remember when I sold Def Jam mm-hm and I sold it for a big number the next week was on the plane to a convention in Miami and the whole plane was full of people going to convention and I walked down the hallway just snapping people up saying what up what up what up and they all looked at me and said didn't you just get papered up what are you coming to this convention for aren't you supposed to go to a beach somewhere and I said you know when you think about a beach it's just a hot dusty dirty place you just wanted to know that you can go when you can go well you what I love doing this [ __ ] it's the thought process that you could go to the beach I don't sit in the Sun in that dusty dirty Beach but it's a nice imagination to have what I love doing is waking up every morning working with my partner Kevin working and finding new wonderful talent like day they just um I just love being inspired by Reina who runs our marketing department so so it's just I guess it's a career versus a job right and so I like to continue with this doing this thing and you too ditto that oh but it gets like a little bit more serious to me because like you got to understand I'm not raising rappers or saying this but these are men right they have kids that have to be influential in their lives and most of them don't have fathers and most of us so so you're you know I'm a goddamn it call Uncle dad all that kind of shows before um and so I look at it as with success comes more responsibility so I wasn't raised by myself so anything anybody if I get money with you you gonna have a different kind of respect for me when I tell you some grown man [ __ ] you know I mean so to me I think really our responsibility is to give you guys a platform and an opportunity and support and car and just stewardship to be better people you know in life so it's not how can I'm not a record exec I'm mister I'm somebody who is a life changer you know I really if you get with us we're gonna change your life you don't be a better man yeah I can't say go sell a million records but you definitely will be a better man but I remember one point when Leo had laughs and went to Atlantic and you were still kind of like in Def Jam and it was like the LA reading and I remember having a meeting with you and I was like it was like not everything's gonna be all right but I knew you was lying to me well I get a good way like look Norman we're gonna get the [ __ ] up out of here I'm not working with this guy but I can't say that to you like I know that was a weird period from you was it because La La's a friend um no but wasn't it no he always was always like I got an award for song of the year in 1996 vanilla Bernie knows true so nuts so that the thing was and again this was grown Kevin I had the house when Leah left I had the house it's my house right but the landlord gave him the keys now keV it was always your house like that's thought so so so what I'm not gonna do is allow an industry to put me in a position I put la in a position where the house would get destroyed and divided I love Def Jam too much mm-hmm I love the people there too much I was no way that I was gonna let oh let's put them in a cage and see what see what happens ain't doing that hey that guy I just have to point out this is the most woman we ever had a drink chance that lets you know Liang shout out the women oh yeah my name is ADA so what uh what I felt was and that's a la listen the best thing for us to do is to have one voice one way one mission and I would like that for it to be yours I can't do I'm not gonna do that toward something we love now a lot of people were like you shouldn't have did that you you know by this and they wanted me to whatever but I couldn't talk to my man my man was non-compete all that kind of [ __ ] going on with him so to me it was more so about what's best for Def Jam and I thought one way one thought you know what's best for deaf to him that's why I left I never know it will that's that's a falsehood me LA even today we we all 100 no all right how about Jam now do you ever look at it and be like huh oh do you think I didn't be like that's what the [ __ ] they get how about this how you look at it then we leave it at that I look at y'all like y'all Def Jam still like I'm courting the time zone like when I think that glam I think you leo I'm Russell like you know what let me tell you something once seventy very good am I saying this correct one six one sixty very save so many rappers lives let me tell you something and this I have never I have never said this publicly but one sixty fabric was a place when it was Def Jam's it was when I first got started one at Def Jam but they had rushed associated labels in there they had the violator so you didn't have to actually be on Def Jam but you can roll dice and one success very you can get your hair cut in 160 Varick and you can also buy weed in 160 berry like yo you think about it when you first get sign this you get a check but there's nothing that makes you that person that use you just you just sold to them that you are hmm so you still streets and that's why so many people get a check and then they catch a case because do then cancer cakes is they still on the streets but that place right there gave artists a place to get the [ __ ] out the hood but still kind of beat hood cuz you got weed in my next life is a politician I don't know what he's talking about but but I want to want to say one of the leaders points were let's create an environment that was about art how we always like vitamin was done on purpose no was it done on purpose that the outlay how everything was that you know management records everything was the Onyx right here terrific man it was great was crazy I remember a time it was me Redman LeBron James Melo Scarface Ludacris it says you never know people came no matter where they were they just came to hang out hang out I'm a video video that with man challenges we had a 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning is just a place where people and that that's just something he let us always wanted us to not felt like we was working but I felt like we was communion you know being in a community you guys tell me I went to the other building it felt corporate like there was we sold the company was oh that's right that's right also when 160 fabric that was when it was still all and that makes sense but you know I just want you guys to know you saved a lot of rappers lives maybe indirectly or not or straight-up directly because that was a hangout at one point that was the place like sterile zone violator they were like yo you know just come 160 Varick and I'm talking about every artist wu-tang will be up there they was on loud but they would still be up here and understand and it was like and when I got old I was like yo they created the hood that was in Manhattan it was in the city for us that [ __ ] was a Ellison vibe me we need to make a documentary about that so 300 I heard you guys desks are in the middle of the hole you guys like that's fun line [ __ ] why do you guys wanted it was it motivation oh so here's the thing mm-hmm we never felt like outwardly facing things were representative of our influence in our power so we are under very understated period are all in the office you referred to was comfortable but was understated it was homey so rock paper scissor we go for the homey and not for the flashy we want people to come in and recognize that work is getting done not that we're putting our feet up on very expensive desk we want all the money to stay on the screen we don't we don't want to waste money by you know trying to act important because we have flashy or offices or bigger cars it we're past that we're in the rubberband stage can't getting the money in the work yeah so now the only dog I want to speak about young Doug because at one point it kind of seemed like young thug was actually on babies cash money then he seemed like he was with gucci mane and he seemed like and it was like when you stepped in and kind of made him seem like he's whole now it seemed like you was the right choice now was he originally signed at 300 from the beginning he was signed to Gucci and gucci signed his action to us and we didn't feel that we needed to run around and it wasn't critical to us that everybody knew and had to know you know you know when I went to the Red Parrot when fat cat came and he sat in that corner he didn't he didn't he didn't he didn't advertise that he was fat cat but the and it's more powerful who's that guy in the corner so I like when people put their name our name in their mouth because of the understated thing that we got going you know it's silly when I see people rollin with big security guys big big stupid security guys first ones okay it's that little guy you gotta be worried about right look it's when it's a little guy you gonna spill it now that you bet that okay I there's my friend twin he went to Vegas with $80.00 and came back with 20 he's the brokest boy he got a good lock he got a good lock it's my [ __ ] brokerage Mitch's guy I know famous thanks and fingers bridge the kids thank you thank you yeah they are they are out of the text cool QC so um and now 300 is it 360 base company all people can you know get down with 300 and happily contractually 360 like um we believe in 360 we want to be partners partners not you know and we don't want to open up the barbecue restaurant and then you start selling barbecue sauce out the back no we want to be more than ever we want to be involved in everything you know but there's the negative connotation to the whole you don't pay attention to the connotation because we go to work right because people's has a negative connotation because no one did it before us so that's why it has a negative connotation and and you know the the reality is we want to be dis partners you know if we're gonna invest our capital or sweat equity if you ask me I'm gonna open up a restaurant and I need some capital what do you think the capital usually represents 50/50 50/50 right or ownership now imagine if I wasn't just capital you came to me and said you know I don't know anything about the restaurant business you know about the restaurant business I got this great idea so not only am i putting up capital I'm putting a sweat capital to time is money you know so I just I want to be if you if it's successful and and everybody loves the barbecue then we go together and say let's make some barbecue sauce and we've been doing it foot sergeant up you know doing it forever with with the right artists they always wanted us to be because essentially it's like your management it's not only like a game we listen yeah even young boy I care who is opening for what time is he going on that's not the most recondite way most I'm going show right you know means you've been you know so hard of that so the reality of it is the conversations we have in a seed fund uh early conversations but you have to want to be my partner yeah and the label is built to have different kinds of deals for different kinds of people whether you want to be an entrepreneur start your own label whether you want to be a straight artists or but we have to be involved in your life [ __ ] rap [ __ ] [ __ ] singing follow we have to be involved in your life when you wake up in the morning we want to see that your [ __ ] table we want to be on your board of directors now that that involves movies that involves I don't give up what you doing we don't did what what what haven't we really done in any particular way businesses business but at the end of the day if I'm going to invest in you and you gonna invest in me then we will eat with each other but he'll comes to you right now says Kevin Laos I want to put out a record mmm and I only trust you and Lee all we talk about it would be it'd be an honor to put out his record a [ __ ] honor yeah we talked about a tune or and here's the thing hmm we live in the unique world of digital distribution yes so I don't have to go so far on the limb to make a bunch of them and then spend a bunch of money to buy that real estate in the record store so we could get it on in a very inexpensive way that you could test a market in a innocent honest but effective way oh my god thank you we're big fans like a lot of CEOs they they talked indirect to me the reason why I appreciate our relationship with both of you guys is you even when I didn't like you first of all this is one of the funniest stories was Fat Joe is trying to clear a ja rule record right so Fat Joe calls me it goes Joe I'm gonna bring the guest of his people up there I'm gonna see Lee all calls right I'm like don't do that so he goes I used to be Santa Claus for Russell Simmons ten years straight his kids so he say he goes to see Leo and he's like oh you gotta clear the record and Leo said no you forgot one other part of it okay I tell people listen in all due respect the answer's no and when you open the window up and fling me out the window and I'm just about to hit the concrete the answer is still gonna be no so if it was gonna be different than I could understand you intimidating but since it's not gonna be you I have to actually fling me out and find out and then you're gonna end up in jail in the [ __ ] up and so they know unbelievable it's not no to get a yes it's a no because it's snow it's with respect no right you know and that that's what makes you guys hands down that's what the longevity you guys are having is as a direct effect through the realness that when artists when you tell artists when they younger like I so much things that you guys both have taught me uh and I probably would act like I didn't listen back then but I apply to my everyday life like I don't apply math to my heavy date life but I apply things that you guys talk like the first time when me and Leo I'll try to do business he said to me what are you doing today I said a pun video he said I'll be there hunger look I never asked for no information [ __ ] never acts what state which city he said I'll be there and I was like hour later he pulled up and you pulled up with Ja Rule's the first time I ever met ja rule was one of my best friends right now and he pulled up with ja rule ja you in the town cause they went up to Jeff I'm s but what when you want something you just you you find no weight and know what you get with the hell you want I don't know that's pretty obvious answer you know it's I think that I'm a hard worker a bit I was raised right shout out to my parents my family and I don't want to ever embarrass them or embarrass my family and let me put it to you this way you're never gonna go in the locker room and say what the [ __ ] happened to you you didn't show up I'm the I'm the right person if you have time I'll tell you this view story so you know how I'm funny my accent is and you know how my name is spelled so when I touched down in America and I was in a public school and after-school program um they're choosing baseball teams and [ __ ] chose me last because of my funny name and my funny accent but I caught every [ __ ] ball and I put everybody out last time yes I was called last so that's why I you know I just have to work harder I'm not that intelligent I'm not that you know I I don't have insane gift but I'm ready to put it on people and work very very hard to run DMC days because can you give us a run DMC story because you was a road manager right I'm proud I'm proud the thing that I use every single day more than anything was my road manager my road experience like Kevin was referring to the road my road experience separates me from all those other people I compete with every day so we have so many stories from going up to Detroit and witnessing the young boys to Long Beach when all [ __ ] broke out and and we're on the nightly news the Live Aid and performing in front of that historic show so many many beautiful stories but I guess the biggest and most important story that tells you the fabric of who I am and the fabric of what we represent and remember we represent the blue-collar the hard-working is when we were selling to Joe Louis's back to back to Gardens back to back the spectrum back to back our click on the road was five Joey d.j running ray and Lee or we didn't have an entourage big security guards we carried our own luggage and before the curtain dropped and the music was finished we're in the car on the way to the next city so you know all when I look at all these new rappers with their you know 50 people entourage and these big security guards that all you have to say is boo in this right running um it's it's like clowns y'all got B for security and so that's the greatest story is we never missed a gig in three and a half years okay one gate one night we did five shows in three different cities in three different states five shows in three different states we are mobile we stayed out of trouble and we were on to the next city and that's you know you know we'll and grateful you remember the fish spot we used to eat at la pesca do absolutely remember absolute that fish soup man watch Nori's face when I first ordered the fish boy I was mean every meeting we had was around lunch pasque-dieu no no this is this what time right I thought I was the man because this is when Leo walks into the door they say fish soup man like this thought it was like some big [ __ ] so I started going there a lot so I wanted to take me all out one day and I was like yo and that's a care to Bill Lee off are you oh you gave him the bill call the boss okay yeah yeah I realized when the purse is the man you have let them be demand you can try the creep over bTW I learned their life lesson that daily almost pissed not at me he was mad at dumb like this is my spy I don't care how much he comes here remember I'm the guy who broke Nuria I'm gonna I'm gonna say something before I leave okay no problem I think I feel Kevin and they they're gonna stay don't what - keep it go so here's my thing so what's a year 2016 yes I believe okay I only think about records I know this is you know um you know I'm pre sucker MC so that's how I think about time is that 82 83 and you know so I don't know if you've read the recent report of the use of the RIAA where for the first time in 18 years the business has grown I'm telling you and I'm telling everybody that listens if you're an entrepreneur and you want to get into a great business not a good business and get papered up get into the music business the record business for the last two decades the business has been shrinking and consolidating so there are no Def Jam's no islands no Motown's no a MEMS no crystallises piece boutiques this is the time for you to cobble together a little capital because it's not expensive and find stunning talent and putting them out in the marketplace this is the moment in time I've never seen a more fertile business environment as it is today so your listeners I know they love the nostalgia and and and the fun that you guys have but all serious all jokes aside I do want to leave you and your your your viewership with the absolute clarity that what better business that you can go tonight and record someone ship it the next day all around the world at zero costs no manufacturing costs no shipping costs no obsolescence no inventory no everything digital and inexpensive and very efficient remember we used to make videos that cost us money to promote our songs now there's a YouTube that you put the video up now this make some noise put a video up and get paid for it so I'm just saying man I'm tired of the highly concentrated industry now is the time you you may be too late if you keep waiting to get this paper there's a lot of paper out here and this is a great business and I want you and your consumers to recognize how great of a business this is you enjoy streaming you think streaming streaming is such a friendly and wonderful consumer proposition all the world's music for $10 a month and it's the first iteration my daughter doesn't want to hear classical music or or African music she likes to pop hits maybe as we iterate that business her her bill would be 3 bucks a month and she only gets the top hits so it's just the infancy you know that streaming is only a two three percent penetration so just imagine when it's 50 percent penetration right so don't have just Kevin and I be the only paper it up [ __ ] out here okay we don't want to be by ourselves we want other people to hang out with we want other people to seize the opportunity of this in environment and start creating new special companies that you know are culturally significant healthy for artists and creators thank you ken come on anyway you know it was it was dead before you got on a podcast you hoped about the dirt immediately in the morning so Kevin laughs Baltimore's finest yeah so keV and I know we we touched on it a little bit earlier yeah but the love for the game has to Lord you more bounce house about time coming but um how how many years have you been in the game cat 32 and you still love it the same way or sometimes you wake up and be like this you guys wanted a break sometimes we're not when I my critical moment was when I left Def Jam you know and then when uh in 2009 when I said yo the business is about to change and y'all y'all making decision there's the chairman I'm saying yo the decisions that we make in now know if I could continue it the same way you know me and I said so I had to go hug some trees and we're gonna have to go somehow hug some trees walk on a dirty sand and I said I'm out mm-hmm I'll let people know I left me mm I said yeah you know what I'm good but then you know the whole tray thing happened and you know he was his manager was one of my interns talked about Trey Songz yeah yes and he said y'all gotta find my man I said my man why you got fired you should really work it out and so he said y'all need you to uh do a marry I said I'm not doing that yeah and you like that groundwork more like management do you enjoy it no you got to understand nor it I enjoyed being beside tell it mmm I enjoy being assigned brothers that when Chico down you know go down and I'm just enjoy being around and next to people you know I mean so to me I don't know how to I really was where I lost I'm sending out our all I had to do was go around the country and fix problems but I tell you we should sign this artist's name Chris Brown and you say he's not gonna be a star I can't how about miss Tina but girl manager if I said you wishes time and you don't my seinem then I tell you yo Rick shout to report the Rick is one of those you have across silver Li y'all you don't want to continue with no I it was at that moment and you want me to stand next to [ __ ] putting it feet over the head and I don't know in the shadow that [ __ ] all do yeah so my thing was I wanted to be with art and so when I left it was like um I had to find myself and really at the end of the day I can't go anywhere right because he even to this day I still talk to Todd hmm I still talk to hope I still talk to X I still talk the job I still talk to you see yes that's today that's so I don't know how to get out because Emmy you're unison I'm saying I'm a guy I'm a former artist a DJ and when I was president after him I had tore hundreds in my office everybody knows so we used to [ __ ] around in this hangout and look and I'm on this blessed pop I miss bless gotta beat sweat can't be ma'am you find out his twin like this you got $1 in his pocket he's good you got 20 i but he's a good heart good we're gonna go Kevin Laos man I really appreciate you coming hanging out with us because you guys are so important to the culture I love what you guys are doing at 300 because I just love the fact that you guys can make all this money have all the success and then still wanna be the people that helps the artists push forward and that's that good because at the end of the day it could have been like oh it's just all about us [ __ ] yeah but it's like you guys is like like I know these artists don't know who you are and that's what would it like for instance like if Mellie mal put me on a carousel and put me on it's like I cool you know exactly who he is whatever but Kev's history is so richly all history is so rich and they don't really bring it up it's not like they coded ours if you like you know you know I made such as says they don't really live on the past that they said so I know that's why I gave that love to day day because I'm like you're listening if you listen because it's gonna come a time like I just keeping it real who you are nobody there's not a book that's in you gotten to zero account in your account today and then tomorrow you got four hundred and twenty thousand and after that four hundred twenty thousand clear but you don't win this pending you looking like oh but does it come in but when they [ __ ] really clears you like I got war honey and I could really do some [ __ ] and then you start you stopped listening to them because you think you did it on your own I mean that's artists syndrome 101 you know I'm saying like ah and it's crazy because it might happen to you two or three meters Tommy Boy cam you know to me and Def Jam was like playing for the Yankees at that time like it was truly like playing for the Yankees it was like like I said like I never went on tour that many times like Kevin Lau's came to me and was like look [ __ ] we we here but we need to be here and you might not see your family for the next two months you go fly them out though fly them out but dad that won't get it does that still exist in hip-hop I'm glad you Bob every year we put out a new artist tour we put out y'all hustle tour last year now we're dropping birth of a new nation tour with shot Lizzy day day and PMB Rock goes out in November pick up here be right we always gonna invest in the street because what I hope to find in the city is the next nor the next pin be right the next shot Lizzy the next day day and we go to every city I don't just invite fans I invite hustlers I invited artists I like whoever make a noise in the town come out and hang out with us but you gonna look at my [ __ ] and you will tell me how i'ma break my [ __ ] in your marketplace then we will get money together and that to me you can't you get no better than that because again like they they still grown so he don't really know how to engage like north like I want Nora to [ __ ] with him or yeah I want y'all artist development partner but I'm saying like like to me I want I want people the reason we do this tour because I want young artists to know that we believe that through touching your fans you become art not just a record right and that's that's the difference we're not we're not but pop music like that you know we got to get on our street we have to be on the street because I feel like I feel like that too because I feel like a lot of times these artists don't have training like they don't have they don't have somebody like me like like I remember seeing um young dog go to UM Sirius satellite and I was I remember seeing like him saying y'all gonna play the wreck it and then leave all going to sway and going to this ear and I was just saying people don't care that much no more but you know only company that [ __ ] cares like that like you know I shut out to Atlantic Records I think I think cars and Julie kids okay yes yeah we give them a pass but [ __ ] it oh yeah so bad yo Kevin laughs what was that Oh JT Chris gave it let you straight from the gym yo oh how you look like you coming from the gym and you drum [Applause] is out of control now Haley oh I'm gonna say some quick yeah so part of part of our culture even if you wouldn't sign a def jam or 300 or any of that [ __ ] in that straight chaps kiss I'm sorry that [ __ ] going on if you hip-hop you respect hip-hop I could call kiss mm-hmm and say yo this what I'm thinking this is what what what this is why he can call me too and he can check me and say yo why y'all do that and that to me is when you talk about true [ __ ] real people mmm this dude right here he knew it and by the way show up you ain't got to worry about about homeboy and my my talk about evolution he's not a rapper he's a man yeah y'all got to stop like giving titles to real people like that you know this guy's a man he's gonna go around and influence a lots of people through his music through his love through his art and that to me he belongs in a Smithsonian Institute imani yeah we gotta do what he wrote the Milli Vanilli's yeah yeah we just robbed beats together no you listen I came back with a bag he came back with bags and applause please trying to hold it Lee don't get too attached in my bag your work you got my guys we got my [ __ ] I'm watching you yo what's going on kiss what yo yo how you not talking about the other day I said we got a do-over now it's not a reality show but like a scripted show everybody loves Jadakiss said you got the connects right now okay this is 20 you don't win Jadakiss [ __ ] we got down with us but you gotta go Hawk look the nori on tv2 being here in person man no you can sit with my friends and I'm drunk - OH you're like yo - miss you just got the bad boy talk yeah yeah you just came off the bad boy talk uh-huh man it was a great great family reunion great no I mean everybody's in a great space it would it went real very successful yesterday I've seen something very interesting we was at the college bar pick up the caller he got his own chance inside the studios and I walked into a conversation it was your Meister and Mason's like I'll do your [ __ ] but I ain't going to the Breakfast Club and I was like he's like to fight I think he bought that life wonder low you think so I eat makes me what if I saw the man got beeper song probably it probably was yeah they probably don't talk too kindly of him up there so I don't really know what that was his Breakfast Club right discrepancy is but we heard him say he'd do the drink champ story that's right we want you here then you can find whoever you are over here okay we don't mind I'll just play it makes you know I've seen them in SDK today oh we sat there chopped it up now it was awkward because I did offer him a drink not out of disrespect that's what you do yes what I do or not he just looked at me like no and I was like oh yeah I forgot you know the whole thing but I want a big up make someone pick up the arm bad boy a reunion tour because I went to see y'all out in Vegas and you guys were very professional like I'm tomorrow everybody I was on time that was there before there was a prayer that happened like I guess it was flawless yeah not did he big shout out the day of the big shout out to the whole staff T it was really like a theatrical play that too mien was a it was a 90s hip-hop medley of you know the hints that was made back then but the structure and the format of it is like he said was like it's like a plate where you buy your own time anybody backstage getting miked up we went very successful so good I actually want to do some more cuz I'm furnish this new house you'll listen my [ __ ] kay kay in the building listen uh nominee [ __ ] ain't nobody credit card on in this room right where's the vault credit card we gonna charge to be gonna smoke and Charlie the old man I just want to pick up a vault this conference because definite since like mix show power summit happen even if there has been like fake conferences I haven't been a part of them and when I was a part of them all came it was not put together like last night I just walked through the lobby I got to see you or to see Jim Jones I got to see to Harry I got to see DJ Quik Quicksilver I got to see S&S Kent I got to see Clark Kent Clark Kent big [ __ ] hence care cuz when I'm out I got no Clark Kent stories you know I'm sad he's still a little nervous in the drink chat but we getting your ass on here o'clock pick up Terry by because that's what the music business you know you know one of the UM the one of the best nights I ever had in my life is when hot 1997 had some called hot like Jamaica you always tell me and they missed out yeah they flew out there and we had no choice like hole but this is a true story hope they did that other rooms was was that was booked Soho had to stay in the same hotel as us your main degree had to stay in the same hotel like we've all in one hotel and they just they got a chance for people to meet each other like all right cool I want you on the record you answer you wanted me on record I ain't answer now we just sitting down drinking registration and you like oh but and that's what this reminded me of this will music conference it was like you know um I supposed to ja rule ja rule had flew out here DMX was out here and it's like I think what volt is doing is an awesome thing you know it's awesome then they bring it back to that is you think that's important for us definitely important for us is is is not even important for us important for the culture is important for the new artists that no matter how what we went doing how to structure and how to network in right the bigger the bigger picture of this hip-hop industry no I mean than just being an artist or being a producer how to get longevity how'd it be in it for years how to set up your build your brand and get you revenue right you know I mean I'm gonna have to cut you off because nobody asked you I didn't know neither before the Ricky let me just explain this yeah what happened was we were supposed to do ja Rule earlier and we were supposed to do kiss at that or supposed to do this we really happened oh yeah I missed because that's on the dope right yeah yeah Johnny like yo do you and job work that's all I had and that's how I happened because of the episode we got dogpound with Tony yeah you got to be mixing because the burfi three chance and you still want to collab with drink chance to be but you know what kiss you know what you know what the crazy thing is you know I want to thank you I want to thank all the artists because at the end of the day um you know style chic I mean just everybody who participated in drink chance because me and my part of dzf and we had an idea of what we was gonna do but we freestyle everything and and y'all gonna shut us down y'all could have been like [ __ ] whatever you know Sam and you know Fat Joe was our first episode that we put out it wasn't the first one we more than was the first one we recorded the first one with quarter was Kenny Anderson um and then like I really call my friends like you know I'm saying so you know um like when I ask people if they eat ass so how many abortions they had like a lot of people can't a lot of people they can't ask Fat Joe that you don't say they can't um Freddy B's Freddy B's Jason Oh Freddy vs. Jason okay yo yo yo yo yo the minute you wait a minute you can't choose barbecue - somehow the more where people came to studio that's the finish where I saw one here's the thing like cuz [ __ ] don't wanna be called midgets no more so I don't want a little I don't want that um word to just go away [Music] oh yeah all y'all Kazan young yeah that was my that was my man oh we just just winning that was because there's a tournament on my block that call the midnight basketball tournament hmm and we have just finished a basketball that midnight yeah they got [ __ ] get shot yeah I was over there talking to one of my mans and they just popped my buck I mean a bottle was already popular you've got a somebody I don't even drink you guys started indulging it yeah my man don't wave off he actually got me soft that he's got about bigger white mark my mom's calling me one day said why did you put on this white kiss let's go order hip hop would you ever think that what's going on like in Philly was even possible right because sad when you think about it also anything's possible though with this [ __ ] [ __ ] up yeah oh dear wait that was actually the only discrepancy of the tour that incident in Philly that's not bad boy I was the only thing that so so what happened so what happened in your opinion like I mean I was in my room I in actually said but I guess it was some type of altercation with somebody from Meeks camping I'm single right yeah yeah so it's it's like you know when y'all was battling the rock and even battling his state property honk or even g-unit felt like it there was no hands just that you know I'm saying it was put on anybody so as bad not they cut you off yet those those times was really though if you actually it was when those somebody could have really gotten bellick put down bagged in on me so it was it it was like more intense if you ask me then right now with the internet cuz before when you had a problem you had to see you naked right go to the studio alright now we're just going Twitter and you want you stay in the critic ribbon fight so it's a different is different but you know and they fighting for the camera stays on wax all right it's therapeutic for hip-hop it's hands-on people start getting some no no struck vigorously right it can go a different way a great word I love that word but no no I got that already hey girly and enthusiastic in my catalog was it called vernacular but that three big words I used to go yeah what's the other word kept acts told us okay no I'm screwed okay robbery robbery kebab with you know we learn words on this podcast kissing so Kimmy a lease a that corny this way yada don't know that is that is mr. Lee from starving I'm telling for brother animation by his clothesline just put him on his clothes line is hard yeah let's do it but it's do it juice boss no kiss you just opened up Brooklyn to get shout out the BK we open one on Malcolm X oh all right yeah we working can you get set in Miami we need to do that no I was gonna get in but then we started drink caps I was like I may not my now relations perfect juice of a morning juice up in the morning we get up in the morning we've not every open up a juice or drink champs for life right tips for life so in the daytime you juice up all right you'll get a little tiger but then that night time just Tiger boo Gong bhaji all of ya and all of the Fowler silicates in the world's it just bring you under the table the bum bones yeah you just gotta get under the all right I like it like they do your job do your Joy's the snap so gate a kiss man yeah what was going on so yeah I got doing home a juice bar be a Leticia oh I heard I heard something like MTV is something that green lists some [ __ ] you and camera camera all got some [ __ ] and then also the y'all got a juice bar [ __ ] I think we got one in their own think we got weird talks we ain't talked to MTV to make some happen really lit up on me I thought y'all was playing well more Hank I'm gonna do it that they would play [Music] lil snupe gets the water Hey they said that yeah yeah I'm [ __ ] yeah this is loud [ __ ] that [ __ ] ain't doing nothing that cover in the head a [ __ ] this is we smoke alarm over vault man [ __ ] it but to get the sprinkler hey y'all Sula I just want to throw this out there the boat the bogey nominees are Mac Miller Joe Mike post Malone you know r-e my [ __ ] k well spies and listen a lot of people don't know who cares well heat a bogey [ __ ] of the year I'm gonna throw that out there come on shout to Instagram and all that come on KK rosewood baby yah stop smoking stop smoking for like six months and take a didn't talk to me k was like oh like you know that's my [ __ ] caveman okay you've been you know that's his first nominee for anything in a dream chapter war you know be given pause well puff is also nominated for I'm a seed of the year gonna eat okay you know I was like that a year too crazy okay a lot of [ __ ] been hitting me like Jack Doyle ever been hitting me like y'all we wanted yeah you know pop can't win that award over me and I'm like whoever nicer to me that night [ __ ] you know we might give it to him but but okay case real beginning of the year um for years I've been seeing this [ __ ] listening and we know what I want - I wanna promote you more because I see you and Jada together y'all or you t is serious that's really your your friend from the prominent firms but gear a third grade [ __ ] Missy Banks class yeah that's what it's about though a lot of people don't have that nowadays no get blown up [ __ ] gotta put the towel under door and be quiet but that's how it is though you know loyalty is everything so you so much a bogey missed oh yeah cuz he working out he's looking good right yeah yeah yeah I gotta go man you see on the tread with the bogey beer Bosley's next when the water is supposed to go to its local bogey at the Runyon Canyon I throw the ball beat me - I do the same thing yo yo okay man I want to honor you because you coming up down we still doing the drink champs Awards January 2nd for all the people that's that's the hangover wars it's the day after New Year's so they're trying to catch everybody that's in puff house when y'all leave pop house coming to drink champs and we're gonna broadcast this we dead serious oh I forgot busted a bogie and I'm nominee we have to ask either Eddie gates thinks he got it but um we're not sure I'm just saying keep claiming I want to give it to poker pub just he proposed it to uh Anjali yo yo yo we are Angelini on the other day who's like this Eddie Dacia and Julie's talking red he's like I kissed you yeah we found a little bit oh [ __ ] that looked like the police oh this industry this is sharp where's everybody home ran bad boy for 18 years still running bad boy he do what he do like those we got to do the percolator percolator hydra hydra NATO water and I'm sitting here dressed in all right he's down with we having a good weekend down here I love what you brothers is doing and I love it if I didn't get a chance to say if if we go back so far yeah in order we go back so far I love what y'all doing young man and we appreciate you but we want to show you wanna but we like to interview people behind the scenes okay because that's who you are and you make a lot of things shake and bake just goodies people a little bit of history are you and how you perform okay um real quick who's showing press y'all press go back in turn bad boy moved on started my company power moves yeah you know it's instrument to you know imp officer is is a wonderful person because as long as you down will puff and your hard work are you always gonna be part of the system and that's 100 percent if you leave Oh even if you wanna be say still can't leave what you doing yeah so when we started power moves like like that was the account it was a marketing company really accountant man yeah Miami like this my gut right like like my god no he's the a/c to now he's not I said what's up to Eddie I said you looking yo guy said we got all the gray hair you black blues like cuz I just look we doing the Fowler war shows called the falsa war [ __ ] show ever huh huh so we go makan rewards right so I'd never spoke to puff about this at all okay I mean it's not coasting I hear about it now um but he thinks he's a when asked either to hear out of the year over pop I just for like puffs as I asked the bad [ __ ] he got wanna pass ahead I think you should get the shot Prezi is no global spoon Awards awards show dedicated to the DJ's we got the ward show dedicated to foul [ __ ] but speak about that Global spin Awards we recognize the unrecognized will child to DJ is the most influenced you guys in the game you know who never really got this shot who never will put up on that platform so the global spend awards is the Grammys for the DJ's and on reach we did their night on the nominations yesterday real big so all the DJ's around the country right now celebrating social medias going crazy my man kiss you was dead last year when y'all came in and we all had Swizz Beatz host last year you know gave him I think it was 50 million records sold so everybody from Rough Riders came so yeah I mean it's it's a love fest but it's recognizing to me the the most important influences in the game which are the DJ's I'm ready for my order oh yeah you need you need to get the great bit of water song but y'all knew each other a long time don't press you a very instrumental person in this industry and you know that's what a podcast that's what we're trying to do here is we want to keep our legends alive our music so much the minute somebody does something or somebody you know they find out this we just kill our own legends that is so bad in our culture so what we want to do purpose to our podcast is to keep our Legends alive especially the people that's behind the scenes because yeah we're the forefront set as artists but you know what artists ain't [ __ ] without five people behind him and sometimes people don't recognize those five people behind them and those positions so that's why we interviewed Leo and Kevin Liles earlier because a lot of people you know they just think that they're just the check writers when they're a lot more to it and the same thing with you it's like you know um we appreciate to people like that you know I'm saying we appreciate and we want to own look at J the kids trying to slide we we've seen you know you got nice assistant man listen you ain't for y'all cos at all let's get real thank me like am all good assistants yo are you gonna lie Leo combs and Kevin Liles wrong the most females is that is that not accurate yeah I mean they bought the most money to so some prayers how did how did you get started with bad boy intern intern III I did it I did it the way it should be done you start at the bottom yes yeah like like anything that's handed to you you don't you don't appreciate it and when bad boy in the early days in kiss it I mean it's 19th Street the office was the size of this room right here like everybody was working there sorry though you know I mean big shot of if y'all don't monitor to some of the day will you act like those are the guys who bought me in and gave me my platform then you know moving forward we had guys like malcolm miles all these dudes who really put work in the game to get bad boy to way okay there you go capricorn Clark borough JB around here some way that's who y'all should snatch up but you want to smooth because you know jzj Jeff is extra smaller hold on be a left them walk gonna build it Oh goddamn we did GZ yesterday two lives good there's good money it was great we did use yesterday because we gotta shut out all the steam cats out there too that we wrapped for oh yeah light like I mean you know I come from the street teen days I come from from handing out flyers saying that is it is that possible put a street team to exists again because all my powers away there's a way that if no is it's definitely a lane for it but the labels the artists gotta formulate their own streets right now most they want you to just go there go in the conference room sit in front of the screen and that's the new street team like no I'm saying I said no [ __ ] like but but it's nothing like the reals hutch in the ground no and that's what the three team was like let's put it this way it'd be albums coming out now no they just here back in the days you drive Darian missile you had a witness would saw it was called yeah you ready guru easy was getting on a train we was hitting you you know you driving down the West Side Highway is poster boards up it's great and when you had the team in each market you you had the pulse of that market and that's what it was that's what it was I could I could call you II I could call at any given moment you know what's going on in Miami why need I need to know who's there and then that killed the street team no I think what made it it made what made this money no Arab there's a buddy Larry but now different Reds up the in Hawaii in the kissing games of all dumb budgets these new [ __ ] have never known the budget I'm looking at taking a hit they did it if I can just send the artist to the office and do it Internet blast that's way cheaper than paying there you go a group of dudes that go in a van or go off the east coast hit the whole highway hit the subway hit a shampoo out there he's still doing them still the last many he's my [ __ ] oh your artist up-and-coming Network get your boys together cuz I'm you know I'm a firm believer in grassroots I'm a firm believer in touching the people on a firm believer in the DJ's get out there put your hustle in I know this social media everybody working on like if it comes from that and he's superior he's still a guy who wants to play vinyl he's a pyramid he hip-hop purist that's right that's what I call him my hip-hop purist and you know that's different from these people like these people just know a computer like hey what's going on you're taking batteries wrong all right so omelet he's the type of guy like he appreciates the old-school what would happen with the old-school presented you don't mean one we have to end this and I don't know what word that is my dad my 5515 that that wasn't you visibly what time is it I don't know to tell time 5:08 oh we got to fight because it use every
