Please note that this website is currently a work in progress! Lots of interesting data and statistics to come.
Unfortunately, we've had to lock this thread. Users in this thread are taking this opportunity to make homophobic, sexist and other bigoted attacks against one another.
To those of you who were attempting to have interesting and level-headed discussions, I apologize.
Basically any time I see an "article" which bases itself on a series of tweets, it's safe to ignore said article. Unfortunately, there are a lot of them and not enough people know that rule.
Also twitter itself is harmful to our discourse and ability to think in anything more than quip-form.
Boy this comment section is fun. My own two thoughts:
1) It's ok for other people to have a different opinion than you. If someone has a different opinion than you on the internet they are not a monster and, believe it or not, it is still possible for them to be a decent human being.
2) The comments saying "look; there IS an outrage!" by linking a bunch of tweets/posts with less than 10 likes/retweets are just proving this guy's point that you're overreacting. The point is that just because a few people may find the joke outrageous doesn't mean you suddenly label an entire group of people ("The Left") as a bunch of overreacting crazies. Believe it or not, both "The Left" and "The Right" are very diverse and feature people groups that come from all walks of life.
If you live your life going from one outrage to another (in this case, being outraged that a few people on the internet are outraged - or just mildly perturbed) you're just going to wear yourself out. It is far better to accept that not everyone might have the same opinion as you, and that it's ok for them to have that opinion without being a terrible person.
Didn't think I'd see Shaun in this sub. He's channel isn't about video games, this video is an exception. Though, I think it belongs here. This outrage came as surprise, but certain youtubers have to pander to their audience.
Yes! 9 out of 10 times that I hear about outrage, itβs because people on the other side is talking about it. I rarely hear about it from the actual sources. Even when there are actual people actually upset, itβs blown out of proportion by the backlash.
For example, the ONLY times I have EVER heard ANYTHING about Anita Sarkeesian it has been in connection to people attacking her. I donβt think I would know about her if it wasnβt for all the people upset about her project.
100 people tweet something, then 100 000 people jump on that thing giving it a huge platform to spread.
The formal term for this kind of shit is a "strawman argument". You create the villain's opinion and you then proceed to argue against it.
For a short time I was really into the anti-SJW sphere of YouTube. Until it honestly started getting a bit aggravating. I mean multiple YouTuber would make multiple videos that are like, 7-20 minutes long ranting about what some random kid on Tumblr or on their YouTube video (which has like less than 5k viewers before they made their video) and just go on these long ass rants about how bad social justice is or whatever.
It's the constant fabricated meta-outrage. They would knowingly go and out and search for things that some random SJW on the internet would say and then make a huge ass rant about it. Not just them, but everybody else in the anti-SJW sphere on YouTube. It was absurd. It was if they were looking for things to make them angry just so they can pump out a YouTube video on it. That shit got old so very quickly. I think the only way you can still watch these videos is if you have a massive hate boner for SJWs or just Social Progressive politics in general. Which I don't. I don't think I hate anything enough to essentially watch the same video over and over again.

I'm just so flabbergasted that people get sooo bent out of shape when someone says, "Hey, the game looks GREAT! But I'm kind meh on ____"
I'm going to lay this out for ya'll: YOU look like the 'triggered snowflakes' when you get up and arms about this. Art is divisive, some people are going to read certain things differently. It's just the way art is.
God, that screencap of all the triggered right wing morons and their videos was just so disheartening... Especially all the views. Youtube is perma fucked, isn't it?
