hello everyone and welcome back to my Channel today I'll be talking about the 10 things to avoid when you own a Tesla as electric car enthusiasts we're all excited about the new features and driving experience that Teslas have to offer but it's important to remember that there are some things that could potentially ruin your experience as you guys already know electric vehicles are still relatively new and have not yet reached Mass adoption and since Teslas are some of the most advanced and high-tech EVS on the market there are a few key things you need to know about how to properly take care of them EVS require a different level of attention compared to the traditional gas powered vehicles and with so many new owners making the Swisher EVS it's important to make sure you're taking the right steps to keep your Tesla running smoothly in this video I'll cover everything so you can keep your Tesla in top shape and enjoy all that it has to offer first up let's talk about charging to 100 now this does not applied to all Teslas but if you have a model that does not have the lfp batteries it's generally recommended to avoid charging to 100 on a regular basis this is because it can reduce a life of the battery and accelerate degradation meaning that less energy will be available as your car gets older additionally charging to 100 can also impact the efficiency of your car's regen braking system which will covers some of the kinetic energy that would otherwise be turned into heat and instead converts it into electricity this is because at 100 charge the region braking system won't really work which means your car will be less efficient charging your Tesla to 100 on a regular basis is generally not recommended for a few different reasons other than when you're going out on a road trip first it can reduce the life of a battery and accelerate degradation and this could lead to Shorter ranges and lower performance as your car ages second as I just mentioned the regen braking system won't really work in turn this can lead to increased wear on your brake pads and potentially lower your overall efficiency to avoid these issues it's generally recommended to keep your Tesla's battery between a 20 and 80 state of charge as often as you can with some experts even suggesting the range should be between 30 and 80 percent this can help extend the life of your battery maintain better efficiency and prevent unnecessary very wear and tear on your car of course there may be times when you need to charge you 100 such as preparing for a long road trip but it's best to limit these instances as much as possible now on the other hand if your Tesla has the lfp batteries such as a standard Range model 3 it is completely safe and okay to charge to 100 on a regular basis and this is what Tesla even recommends lf3 batteries have 100 of their capacity available meaning that they can be fully charged without causing accelerated battery degradation this is thanks to the battery's cathode the phosphorus oxygen bond in the lfp cathode is stronger than the metal oxygen Bond and other cathode materials another thing to be mindful of is not properly maintaining the car's battery and charging system this includes things like replacing Freight charging cables cleaning the charge ports and making sure the car is charged in a safe and secure location properly maintain the car's battery and charging system is an important aspect of owning a Tesla neglecting these systems can lead to a few issues and potentially ruin your car one thing to be mindful of is your charge cables if your charging cables are frayed or damaged they can pose a risk of electric shock and potentially even start a fire it's important to inspect your charging cables on a regular basis and replace them if they show any signs of wear or damage it's also important to clean your charge port on a regular basis to make sure that it is free of debris and functioning properly now the charge port does not get dirty that often but sometimes it just may happen finally it's important to make sure that you're charging your Tesla in a safe and secure location this includes things like using a dedicated charging station or outlet and avoid charging in areas that are prone to flooding or other natural disasters by properly maintaining your car's battery and charging system you can help to ensure your Tesla is running smoothly and safely and you're getting the most out of your Tesla not using proper storage techniques is another way to ruin your Tesla if you need to store your Tesla for an extended period of time it's important to follow Proper Storage techniques failing to do so can lead to battery degradation and a few other issues so what can you do to properly store your Tesla here are a few tips for long-term storage leave it plugged in and set the battery maximum charging level to between 50 and 60 percent if you are able to leave your car charging then absolutely do this this will make things much easier without you ever having to worry about it running out of juice lithium ion batteries are best stored at around 50 percent state of charge so set your charge level in a Tesla app to 50 the car will automatically use some energy when needed to cool or heat the battery and it will get this power directly from the power source instead of the Tesla batteries if you can't leave it plugged in then charged to around 70 to 80 percent since your car will be unplugged and unable to charge you can help preserve the battery by turning off Sentry mode since it consumes quite a bit of energy to further prevent any battery drain you can also turn off cabin overheat protection which is used to keep the cabin from overheating and before leaving confirm the car has a good connection so that you can check up on the battery level if needed however do not open the Tesla app too often as doing so will wake the car and keep the car awake for 15 minutes consuming more energy only check on the car if you absolutely need to by following these tips and properly storing your Tesla you can help to ensure it stays in top condition even when it's not in use for extended periods of time next you do not want to slam the front trunk to close it or to use one hand now traditionally in a gas powered vehicle the hood is very heavy and we're used to Simply slamming it shuts but in a Tesla you should not slam a shut and this is to prevent any damage the hood is not heavy enough under its own weight and applying pressure to the front edge or to the center of the hood can cause damage now the way you want to properly close the front trunk is to First lower the hood until the striker touches the latch next place both hands opposite from the Tesla emblem and press down firmly until it latches close so basically only apply pressure to the areas left and right from the Tesla logo applying pressure to the Tesla logo itself can cause damage you do not want to close the hood with one hand and doing so applies a concentrated force in one area and can result in a dense or a crease and most importantly do not slam or drop the hood using low quality or harsh cleaning products for the seats is another way to ruin your Tesla proper care and maintenance of your seats is important to keep it looking as best and prevent any damage and while it may seem that any old cleaner will do it's important to use high quality appropriate products to keep your Tesla in its top condition using low quality or harsh cleaning products can damage it using a microfiber towel in warm water can be effective for removing dirts and other stains from your seats this is my personal go-to method for as it has worked flawlessly for me in the past with these white seats I even made a video where I showed how to properly clean the white seats I'll link the video in the description below for you to check out for tougher stains using baby wipes can be helpful it's also important to be careful what products you use on your seats avoid using Mr Clean Magic Eraser as it can damage a protective layer on your seats also avoid using rubbing alcohol as it can damage the seats now if you can't get a stain out with a microfiber towel in warm water or even the baby wipes try using a mild pH neutral cleaner specifically designed for car seats these cleaners are are formulated to be safe for using on Automotive materials and will help keep your seats looking their best without causing any damage by following these tips and using the right cleaning products you can help keep your Tesla seats clean and in top condition another thing to avoid is not using the car's built-in navigation system Tesla's come with a very Advanced navigation system that is constantly updating with real-time traffic information and can even suggest the most efficient routes based on your current charge by using a third-party navigation app or not using a navigation system at all you can be missing out on these helpful features another benefit of using the car's navigation system is that it is integrated into the vehicle's controls and display this means they can access and use it without having to look down at a separate device which can help reduce distractions and improve safety in my experience of using the built-in navigation system I found it to be a tad bit more reliable than using a third-party app as the built-in navigation system is specifically designed and optimized for use in your car another tip is to be careful when using autopilot or full self-driving these Advanced Driver assistance systems are not meant to replace the driver and should always be used with caution it's important to remember to keep your hands on the wheel and be ready to take control at any moment autopilot and full self-driving can provide a range of features such as Lane keeping assist adaptive cruise control and the ability to navigate through Highway interchanges while these systems can be very convenient and can help improve safety it's important to remember that they are not meant to replace a driver yet these systems are designed to assist the driver and it is a Driver's Responsibility to remain alert and in control of the vehicle at all times if you are not paying attention or are not able to take control if necessary you can put yourself and others at risk additionally it's important to be familiar with the limitations of these systems and to use them only in appropriate conditions the next thing to avoid when owning a Tesla is not taking advantage of the car's over-the-air software updates these updates can bring new features and improvements to your car and can be done remotely without having to access a service center By ignoring these updates you could be missing out on New capabilities and improvements for your car in addition to new features and improvements software updates can also help fix any issues or bugs that may be present in your car by ignoring these updates you could be running an older potentially less stable version of the software which could lead to issues or problems with your car the benefits of staying up to date with the latest software can be well worth the efforts by taking advantage of the free over-the-air software updates you can help to ensure that your Tesla is running smoothly and efficiently and that it has all the latest features and capabilities ninth is to avoid using your Tesla as a race car while it's certainly fun to push the limits of your car's performance it's important to remember that Teslas are not designed for racing and excessive speeding or hard acceleration that can put unnecessary strain on the car's components it's important to remember that while Tesla is are certainly capable of being high performance Vehicles they are not designed to be driven at their limits day in and day out the same goes for any other high performance car like a BMW M series or a Mercedes-Benz AMG finally it's important to not neglect your car's tires proper tire maintenance is essential for the safety and performance of your Tesla so it's important to check the tread and air pressure on a regular basis and replace its tires as needed if the tread on your tires is worn down it can impact the car's handling and braking performance which can be dangerous also if the tires are not properly inflated it can affect the wear and handling as well as the efficiency average higher is inflated to the recommended PSI to ensure optimal efficiency also by replacing your tires on a regular basis you can help to ensure that your Tesla is running at its best and that you're driving safely by following these tips and avoiding these common pitfalls outlined in this video you can help to ensure that your Tesla experience is as enjoyable as possible and avoid any issues down the road take the time to properly care for your Tesla in addressing the issues that may arise it will help to ensure that your car stays in top condition and provide you with a great Driving Experience for years to come don't forget to give this video a thumbs up if you found it helpful also subscribe to my channel if you have not already comment your thoughts on these tips and if you have any you'd
