no you don't but is your 1944 wheat cent valuable stay tuned to find out here's my website porchmcoinshop.com i have a lot of new inventory up a lot of tight coins and grady coins and raw coins and 90 percent more to come when a load decided for this weekend so take a look at portugal.com and sign up on our newsletter okay so 1944 lincoln cent is one of those confusing scents that most people think is worth a lot of money because they got online they typed in 1944 on their phones or whatever it is in a google search and they typed in how much is it worth or just typed in the sent and etsy ads came up and the etsy ads had it for sale for a thousand dollars or ten thousand dollars or whatever and now they think they have this really rare coin in their hands that they found on the ground i mean i've had people tell me they found it on the ground so first clue when you find something on the ground more likely it's not going to be valuable not saying that's impossible but not 300 some thousand dollars not 10 000 i think there was a 1969 s double die that was found on the ground but i mean we're talking one time and out of how many i mean we're it's more than a powerball odds are it's worse than powerball odds actually so anyways let's take a look at this this is a regular 1944 wheat cent weighs 3.1 grams like it's supposed to and it can weigh off a little bit it can weigh you know just 3.0 or 2.9 it can weigh a little bit over i mean that is completely normal for a coin to um the way a little bit off that's within that specifications they come with no mint mark this is no mint mark which is normal to not have a mint mark it means it was struck in philadelphia then you have so you have the s mint mark and the d mint mark that's san francisco and denver which are all normal does not make the coin more valuable when it's circulated when it's just a regular mint mark but there is some rare ones and there are some that are worth a lot of money and there are transitional planchets incorrect planchets that are worth a lot of money now not saying you can find one but let's take a look at some of these and see how much they're going for so one of the places that i recommend highly to look up sold auctions and to see if anything kind of weird or strange has come up in the market that's been discovered is heritage coin auctions and go to the archived auctions you want the sold auctions already this is view past sale prices you can see some things that are up for now for bitter buy that you can get but anyways a lot of people know that the 1944 obviously was struck on a bronze planchet as i already said they also know that they were struggling steel planches but those are extremely rare now there's also a lot of plated coins a lot of people have plated them to fool people or to just put in sets but these here weigh a certain weight whenever they're on the wrong planchet so we have the 1944 struck on a brass planche and it's 3.13 okay now this would have to be certified you need to send it off it needs to be tested to make sure what alloy it is you also have the 1944 struck on a silver dime planchet obviously these are extremely valuable coins i'm struck on the netherlands planchet so there are 44s that are struck on other planchets and there were several thousand dollars a piece as long as they're graded you have to have it graded and like i said you just kind of scroll through and you get an idea of what some of this sells for and what they need the way you click on this or call ngc or call pcgs or call some or send an email to the experts and they can tell you what something's supposed to weigh in other words though if you're looking at this in 1944 struck on philippines five centavos go look up water five centavos post away and if your coin weighs that much doesn't stick to a magnet then send it off it's possible that you found something but you know there's no guarantee that you're going to find something looking through your change like i said before i just want people to be realistic they get so excited they think they found something and it's really it's really hard because they get disappointed they jump the gun and think they have something before they even get it checked out so now here's the other part of it and probably the one that everybody should be looking for and this is the one that you have a chance of actually finding even though it's really rare you do have a chance it's the d over s this one is very important to look for finding a steel cent or in dated 44 or on a dime planchet you know those are going to be hard tall orders to look for but the dover s you have a chance so these are uncirculated examples and you know they're worth a lot of money because of the grade 65 you see most of them are 65 and 66 you're probably going to find a circulated example so what's that going to be worth so what we want to do we go over here to pcgs and i recommend pcgs because most people are going to send their coins to pcgs and this tells you how much their potential value is doesn't mean they're worth this much it could mean they're worth more or less but this gives you a guide so we see the steel planchets and how many are known of each you know 25 to 39 i mean that's that's really low and then when you get into the mint mark one only seven known only two known from san francisco meant and that's since 1944 that's a lot of years no new examples have been discovered recently so here's how much the 1944 s with two known is worth on a steel planchet 373 750 that's why i say you don't have one there's only two known the odds you find in one but anyway we can go up here to 1944 ds so i'm going to click on this now don't get me wrong they are not extremely valuable in the lower grades but they are definitely worth a few dollars and worth finding so this is what it looks like and it's very important to identify it it is hard to identify if you find something you can if it has a little debris in the mint mark and you can actually use a feather like a quill or a little toothpick and try to get it out of the mint mark a little bit so you can maybe identify it if it's worn you can do that i mean it's not worth much if it's not anyways if you do a little damage to it i'm not saying you want to damage it but those two should not damage the coin but you don't want to worry too much about that i mean it's just a common sense if it's not the d over s so when we look at you know very good 10 it's in 60 but we're going to look at g because seem like a lot of them that you're going to find are going to be anywhere from good all the way up to very fine in the 1944 so as you can see the progression of values here so if you find a raw one you probably got a 20 coin if it's not graded in other words so there are valuable 1944 cents to find and like i said before it it's best to come over here and take a look at the pccs price guide it's laid out very well where you can click on the little plus signs and see what's uh value as far as varieties are concerning the values so it's a good resource to know which ones they will actually grade and label as rare but yeah your 1944 cents in and of themselves are not extremely rare they have to be special on a steel planchet dime planchet or incorrect planchet maybe a foreign planchet or a d over s or an extremely hiding great example because i don't think we looked at that but if they do grade a certain grade then them are worth a lot more money but it's hard to get that grade i'm i'm really hard pressed to say that most of these in the 67s and 66s haven't been found i'm sure if you found a roll uh somewhere that's not been looked through you might have a chance of finding a 65 maybe a 66 but look at this i'm at 68 that's just going to be unheard of and even if you do have one that looks like a 68 and you've looked at all the pictures and you've looked at all the photo grades getting that grade trying to get pieces just put that on there man that's that's going to be very difficult for you and like i said you know don't use google search to find the values of your coins you know look at a price guide look at ebay sold auctions to buy it nows look at numis media look at ngc price guide look at a red book anything but a google search for just the coin itself in other words don't just type in 1944 wheat cent you don't know what's going to come up and you're going to see ads it's going to confuse you and on your phone that's all you're seeing you're seeing the ads so hopefully this helped you as far as what's your 1944 cents worth please share like and comment and have a great day
