you're watching JD's variety Channel good afternoon everyone and welcome to another coin tutorial before I get into it how do you like my coin throne snazzy right it's just a cool accent chair that I picked up a couple months ago so anyhow getting into the video now this is sort of a follow up on the video I did of looking for rare 1943 copper pennies I did leave some information out of some other coins around that time that are worth good money a lot of people pointed that out so I figured I'd do a follow-up it was funny I did have a blooper in the video instead of saying a wartime steel cent I said a steel time war cent so I go to backward on myself but hey when you do a video all in one take with no chopping it up and editing and stuff like that sometimes things just don't come out right and I didn't catch it while I was editing so this video just a brief recap to show you the rare penny I discussed before is when you have a copper penny like this one identical to this one that's dated 1943 that is the one or the major big bucks now this to show you I showed you these still pennies before and basically told you they're all worth around 50 cents to a dollar or whatever but the truth is these are all dated in 1943 though however some of the planets from these coins which is what they're called before they're struck well there just be a blank piece of steel or in this instance a blank piece of copper some of these planets from 1943 God into the 1944 dies where they were supposed to be copper if you have one of these steel pennies and it's dated 1944 it is automatically worth a lot of money so once again with the magnet trick if you do have one of these steel pennies that is in 1944 the first test you want to do on it and and I'll put a disclaimer out there you can do this test but if you really think it's genuine you shouldn't stick a magnet on it because it could scratch it I'll throw that disclaimer out there so but anyhow these coins the steel ones as I showed you before they stick to a magnet whereas the copper ones do not so if you have one of these steel pennies dated 1944 definitely check it out and see if you have something valuable as an idea of why they're valuable one of the main reasons is I wrote down here that there are not many of them in existence there are 1944 steel cents from each mint the Philadelphia which has no mint mark on the coins the 1943 d from denver and from San Francisco from all three myths there were some 1944 steel pennies that escaped which weren't supposed to the 1944 Philadelphia is the most common there's estimated these are rough estimates here there's estimated 25 to 35 known in existence the 1944 Denver 7 to 9 examples roughly in the 1944 s San Francisco only two known examples and on the high end the more rare ones have sold for around $100,000 whereas the more common ones or more in the probably 5 to 10 grand range so I hope you guys learned something today and a little bit of bonus content I want to show here of some cool errors I picked up I'm gonna do a separate video on error coins but I wanted to show you there's some crazy stuff out there and I picked up a batch of a pretty big lot of error coins cheap on eBay quite a few years back you know this is just to show a couple of them I got a good price on them now the person that listed them didn't really know the difference between the errors and I think they were selling them mostly as you could see in the pictures they were off-center like this one you see it's a penny that missed the planchette now most of these this is this is pretty common on pennies so this one would be only worth about 5 bucks but these are ones that I found in the auction that are actually quite rare this isn't just off-center this is double struck and you can see the nickel there and you turn it over and there's a piece of another nickel on this side you can see the detail on it it's the top of the Monticello which says the pluribus unum and you can see right there it also says the pluribus unum that's basically two coins struck on one now I've never purchased a triple struck coin but they are extremely rare to have three coins printed on the same one so those are some really cool things I'm going to do a separate video on the heirs and this is just a little bonus for all my metal detecting viewers just a capped bust half-dollar that I purchased this one had had a hole on it that somebody tried to fill it back in I paid about thirty dollars for this coin but it's more even with the hole it's worth a little bit more than that has a lot of detail on it get probably sell it for around $45 or so but just a beautiful coin this would be a dream find for me as a metal detectorists to find an old half-dollar like this they're just such beautiful coins it's amazing the effort that went into the engraving and design of these old coins so I can hopefully knock won a coin like this off my bucket list someday find one with a metal detector that would be awesome so just something something I wanted to show you guys so I hope you guys learned something today I will be doing more videos like this if you want to subscribe and as always take care and happy treasure hunting
