hello coin collectors out there come check out my wide variety of Lincoln wheat pennies let's just take a look through all these different coins here we have a 1940 444 1944 1944 1944 1944 1944 1944 and a 1944 these are all 1944 Philadelphia Mint United States wheat pennies now 1944 is the most popular year of all wheat pennies in 1944 there were 1 billion 435 million four hundred thousand of the wheat pennies produced at the Philadelphia Mint the Philadelphia Mint pennies won't have a mint mark on them so if you have a wheat penny chances are it is probably this one right here so congratulations on finding a wheat penny unfortunately it's not going to be super rare let's transition into something else right here let me slide in this cool reference guide right here all right you guys might know what this book is right here it is the red book so we're looking at 1944 on the top right there unfortunately a ms 63 red brown is only going to be worth a dollar and a ms 65 RB is only going to be worth five dollars however check out that figure right there 400 bucks 450 and 235 so that could be a valuable coin what one is that that is a 1944 D over s so let's look at that one right there instead of dwelling on the high mintage wheat pennies let's take a look at this one right here so a little bit about this error now the 1944 d / s so this is a strong variety so there's a strong variety and there's kind of a weak variety as you can imagine the difference is one you can clearly see the S over the over the s the other it's a little bit weaker so on the second of the two the S is evident centered behind the primary D on high-grade specimens the diagonal of the corner s crossbar can be seen with the opening of the primary D on lower grade specimens the left curve of the upper loop of the S can be detected on the left of the upright of the D so that might be a little bit confusing right there but the key is if you've got a 1944 wheat penny unfortunately the Philadelphia Mint ones aren't going to be too rare but the Denver and the San Francisco ones are going to be worth a little bit more especially if you can find an error in them as far as the mintage is for the Denver Mint there are four hundred and thirty million in the San Francisco mint 282 million so for comparison sakes we said the mintage is for the Philadelphia Mint were 1 billion four hundred and thirty five thousand and the Denver Mint just four hundred and thirty million and just 282 million now there is another variety that's out there that is the 1944 steel penny now you guys might remember 1943 the United States switched over to steel for the wartime efforts as they were rationing copper so they could use the copper in armor and in bullet shells and bullet casings so I switched over and I started making the 1943 penny out of Steel there are some known 1944 steel pennies however it's unclear if that is a specific error coin or if that was actually intended by the US Mint oftentimes what happens is that in the year before they'll actually start producing coins with the subsequent years mint mark on them so a lot of people have kind of guessed that in 1943 they just started printing the 1944 dye using the steel plant it's from 1943 so there are some known varieties out there those aren't going to be worth a ton of money but if you can find one in great condition it will obviously be worth a lot more than a regular coin would be in great condition just because it will have a much lower mintage a much higher scarcity to it alright we'll keep it simple at today's video hopefully you enjoyed this kind of brief look give you a little bit of a understanding about why you might have come across so many 1944 Philadelphia wheat Penn wheat pennies that's just because that's the highest year of mintage for that particular coin but if you are coming across a lot of 1944 the San Francisco and the Denver Mint are much lower mintage much lower mintages so they're gonna be a little bit more rare and if you can find one that has both mint marks on him on it you're you're in good luck you're in a good place because you found a cool error coin that's going to be worth according to the red book at a mint state 65 RB it's gonna be worth $700 mints 863 R because it'll be worth $450 and a a you 50 is going to be worth 235 dollars so a 250 is definitely a grade that you can come across almost uncirculated 50 235 dollars all right enjoy best of luck oh and collecting out there everyone take care
