what's up bytes I'm Tara with Tara Simon studios and I'm KO charming and today we are warning you do not attempt singing until you learn this trick okay it is all about how to take breaths when you don't have the time and this happens all the time and singing okay we do songs where you you hold this long phrase and then you've got to get right back into a new phrase and there's no time or you're singing a fast tempo song that's got tons of lyrics and if there's just no time to breathe one of the biggest hurdles that we see as coaches and our singers especially our performance that our artists like Angelica Hale Victoria Queen Lauren lot the ones that are performing all the time is that they have to go through consistent large amounts of rep and they're always like where do I breathe how do I breathe in that spot there's no time okay and if you don't take a good breath you don't got any sound right I mean breath is the vehicle in which your voice moves okay if you don't have breath then your chords have nothing to vibrate with okay it's forced air that makes your your voice actually go okay and so if you don't have that you can't go all right it's like the gas in the car when you press the pedal there's nothing happens if you're out of gas right so we have to find a way to learn how to breathe when there's no time to breathe and the secret is the catch breath the almighty catch breath in mastering this skill so we have an exercise for you and it's it's completely proprietary and used just a TSS is something that I made up in my need you know necessity is the mother of all invention right so I was having this problem as an artisan I'm like how do I practice getting into muscle memory this skill that I often am in fight or flight when I know I'm in a performance and I need to but it's too late by then how do I practice this at home and consistently to where I can just go and and really hone this skill and get quicker and better at it so it is called number three it's a series but we're going to view one of them today and we say it on numbers numbers three and this teaches you how to do kachra this is one of the few exercises in our studio where you actually start completely out of breath most exercises and most songs when you sing you take a breath in right but when you really need a breath in a song you're out of it and you need to inhale right you know the time so we're gonna simulate that a bunch in this exercise and we're gonna give it to you for free in this tutorial and demonstrate how it should be done how cool okay so numbers three goes like this this is very counterintuitive you're gonna mess up I promise it's something that even if I'm not thinking about I mess up on because you just we as humans want to take a breath we don't want to breathe it out right so the reason we breathe it out is because we want to create that need we want to create that I need a breath feeling okay so that we take a quick breath in so if we do this one I just want you to practice that because that's hard and of itself most people do this one they breathe out but then right before they sing they take a quick breath in and that's not what we want we want this one so practice this with me sharp and one so you're starting to phone 8:00 or sing at the bottom of breathing out when you're just about out of breath okay then once you're done with that one then you take that first quick hatch breath in so are you full or out of breath when you end the exercise you're full of breath right because you've started at the beginning with no breath and as you go through the exercise you're taking the small incremental catch breaths to where you have a ton of breath at the end and then when you're done you go to the next modulation and you breathe out again okay so it's completely counterintuitive to what we learn and we focus on normally and exercises because we're focusing on catch for us today so reading out and you guys do this with me 1 1 2 1 you're doing right if you are doing this one what do you want huh that's wrong don't hyperventilate and pass out on me if you're conscious right now you're doing it right okay if you're in unconscious you're definitely doing it wrong come to welcome back please don't breathe like heaving okay it's gotta be channeled down a good catch breath goes below your belly button that's where we're focusing the air down to okay we don't want to see shoulder heaves or chest tubes we want it still 1 1 2 1 1 2 3 2 1 1 2 3 4 3 2 1 1 2 3 4 5 4 3 2 1 okay that's point number one point number two is if you feel like you are not full of breath as full as you want to be at the end of it then check yourself and how deeply your catch breathing during the process cuz there are different levels of fullness right and in a song you may not need a full load deep catch breath you may just need to get through another four count so therefore it's just a real quick but let's say you have no time and it's the biggest note and you've got to hold it and heat that's your only chance for air it better be you better get that yeah you better use Charmaine you better get it in you better you better get it in casts whatever you need to do yeah an opening here that's actually a really great point too the bigger space you have the better tip and gulp and air so it's okay it's no shame in the game guys if you're there and you gotta go take that space take that time because a bigger space equals more breath it's better to do that then then taper off on that long note that you were hoping to hold okay I go over this with my students all the time it's not about what you look like as much as it is what you sound like if you're in the game then part of that look is his helps the moment right it's you're not silly you're just about the business of singing and producing amazing sound so this is a great exercise I'm actually gonna play a little bit more so that you guys can practice at home and then you
