good morning or not it's a beautiful day the sun is shining the tank is clean not actually clean but it's about to finish you know we're doing today because you click on this video this has been two years in the rain I left the kitchen as raw and as real as I possibly could the first thing that we're gonna start off by doing cleaning the regular kitchen because we are about to take all of these cabinet doors are also gonna be gutting everything in our cabinet and reorganizing it that's gonna be a part of this whole process but let's start by just cleaning the kitchen while I'm power cleaning so you could hit the like button that helps my channel out so much and if you are new subscribe quick enter on this kitchen we've on our house almost two years ago this is my very least favorite room in the house and we went back and forth several times about whether we were gonna hire someone to do it a little bit of the plan we will be painting the cabinets we have some new polls or gonna put on we have new knobs that we're gonna be changing out I have a project that I'm going to be doing to the floor and hoping that goes well you can tell over here we're putting in some floating shelves along this wall over here we're building out a little counter slash bar area where we can put some stools to slide underneath if you guys want to see the full before tour of our home I will put a link down below it's pretty rough I don't know what we thought we were getting ourselves into and we have already ordered new ones they should be here tomorrow [Music] it is not a project if you don't run into some little bump you didn't expect with the cabinet's the hardest part was getting off all this broken baby proofing that the previous owners had left I ended up having to go back in and take off all these magnetic pieces I have a lot of work ahead of me these cabinets are way more disgusting than I was thinking and of course I've had to an issue the screw from this magnetic thing fell down in the microwave and made it an executive decision so the stakes out here I'm gonna go ahead and scrape these off all of the cabinets and then I'm gonna start the cleaning I'll spare you guys the peeling off process [Music] so like I said the baby proofing stuff that they left on that did not work was the trickiest part I tried washing it with soap and water I tried the goo gone I ended up buying me something with a sharp edge and I just had to scrape at it the best that I could I just needed it as flat as possible so that only painted it it would not be seen [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] so I did a lot of research online on how to prep the cabinets for painting I found this clean strip liquid sandpaper so what it does is it D Grimes and it de losses the cabinets it takes off any of that shine that was on there so that the primer can adhere to the cabinet's of course you could just go in with your sandpaper and do a light sanding on all of the cabinets but I really wanted to try this to save some time and it worked surprisingly well we were shocked at how much glosses took off if you are questioning it I definitely say go for it all my products will be linked down below it cost about five dollars and saved us so much time I've already used it on a couple projects since then before this project I had never heard of it [Music] this is me washing the doors with just soap and water before I went in with a liquid sandpaper I needed to get a close-up of the grossest part of the kitchen because this is a cleaning a deep clean video excited that the cabinets needed just a once-over with soap and water to get all the dog hair and the grime off and then I'm coming back with the actual sand the liquid sandpaper so I'm getting all of the gross stuff off which resulted in me cleaning the floors and that's with me vacuuming so this saw just like stuck on the floor [Music] please do not judge me for the underneath of this dishwasher [Music] so what I'm doing here is taking off this kind of peel and stick on baseboard that the cabinet's had all of the cabinets in our house including the bathrooms had this there over 20 years old so they're pretty gross now and I wanted to put something clean and new they're something that would tie into the trim of our house so I went ahead and peeled that off gross stuff that you're seeing is the glue that they use to stick it on I wouldn't say you have to take everything out in order to paint the cabinet but because we are tackling the whole kitchen part of it was reorganizing going through our things donating what we don't use anymore I really wanted to cut back and minimalize what we have in the kitchen but taking everything out is the best way that I can organize things [Music] this is my husband joined in he had been cleaning out the garage so we had a space to paint and we're going through now and taking all of the doors off of the hinges and we left all of the hinges and all of the hardware for them inside of each cabinet so that way we wouldn't lose them later when we want to put them back on update all of the doors are off and sticky we just think of the drawers off we've decided we're going to try and take this cabinet off and hang a light fixture here up above this thing I would have taken all of these cabinets off and done an entire open shelving unit with absolutely no cabinet something that's still holy but I can't open [Music] now it's time to go within every door and drawer with the liquid sander or we go in with our very first coat of primer [Music] now that everything is cleaned off and taken off you're seeing us go through with the liquid sandpaper I felt like it was easier to do that with the doors off of the hinges so we waited until that point we also labeled each door and drawer as we take them off with some tape if you have a larger kitchen this is 100% unnecessary step so that you can put your doors back on in the right place to apply the liquid sandpaper we use these scotch brite scratchy green pads just so we could scrub them as best as we could my tip with the liquid is to not use too much you don't want too much liquid sitting on top so I tried to wipe off the excess you can tell easily once it's dry there's a little bit of a residue but the instructions say not to wipe it off before you paint [Music] we did take a few things down in the kitchen so I'm filling in any little holes with the wood filler gave it some time to dry and I went back and sanded it later before we painted and it looks like the holes were never there what I'm gonna give you guys another view that wasn't of our kitchen right now neither of us have ever use a paint sprayer but we're very excited this is the home right finish back super and I'll link it down below I think it's a pretty good deal if this is as easy as it looks then the hard work is done so this is that looks like your mom um the third primer comes in at about twenty two ninety-nine we are using the kills original low-order interior primers aim blocker conflate it shouldn't stink so we're just going to place them on I'm ready [Music] this is the time-lapse that we've all been waiting for the most satisfying part of this process was watching a spray these doors for the first time actually every time we sprayed the doors was satisfying to watch you can see I'm putting little clips on my Instagram if you don't follow me on Instagram I like to post some of the process with the projects before I post videos on here so I'll put a link to my Instagram down below if you guys want to come over there and kind of be a little bit ahead of the game [Music] I swear I had a very important role in this process I was the cord slack holder and yes I have experience in this I wouldn't say it's necessarily a two-person job to spray the cabinets with the sprayer but it's definitely helpful to have someone to make sure that the cord is not getting in or touching any of the painted cabinets as you go along [Music] the first quarter the primer is on we're waiting for the doors to dry so we can flip them and do the backside this has almost been dry long enough that we can actually paint the first coat of the real paint on here we need to do two coats of paint on here after the primary 30 now we've been working all day or just popping open the pro classic this is what we're using on the cabinets so this is what we'll get two coats it is called pro classic interior acrylic latex smooth enamel finish for trim indoors and we're doing satin finish this is the end of day one we ended up getting the coat of primer and the first coat of paint on all these bottom cabinets day two cabinet painting we are still scrubbing out our mess from last night from the paint sprayer my bad I did not look into how to clean out oil-based paint and it was the worse anyway today is actually our five-year wedding anniversary here is the kitchen and the daylight so far looking very different than it did doesn't it - walk downstairs this morning and I already felt a different mood and vibe in the kitchen with you [Music] oh we're cruising down to Mako I'm turning up the radio cuz I'm with you now you and me we know that love is in the air like the wind blow it through your head well everything was drying in the garage I used that time to go through things and clean them out and start putting things back inside the cabinet under the sink was definitely the messiest spot there were some spots that had been there that would not come out which is fine it's much cleaner than it was I'm also noticing now I have some paint in my hair from yesterday so that's nice [Music] these drawers were never used well so one of the most important things to me was organizing these better and getting some more drawer space in our kitchen which you'll see later [Music] so this is the beginning steps of the organization there are some things that I'm needing to finish it off and some things that we'll be updating but the stores are still closed right now so I didn't have a way to get a hold of those I'll be showing a final tour and some organizational tips in the part 2 of this video you this is the dried frontside we're about to flip them all over and do start our first coat of the paint on the backside [Music] welcome to phase tails today phase two we are tackling the floors their shelves and this wall first we're going to cut through all the crud this is what I'm using to clean off the floors the goal for tonight is to get one coat of primer down and one coat of paint so that it can stay overnight luckily it is such a nice day the door is open and I'm thinking that will help with drying process you're probably questioning the fact that I am painting the floor I figured the worst thing that would happen is that we didn't like it and we ended up having to put something over top of it like we would have had to do already so the flooring that's in the kitchen is a over 20 year old vinyl I think it is called vinyl sheet maybe I've seen this done on tile linoleum and other similar surfaces so if you're wanting to try it out I definitely recommend researching it more I ended up getting away with one quart of primer one gallon of the porch and floor paint and one quart of the poly acrylic seal the most important part of painting the floors is the prep work comment down below if you've ever tried painting your floor or if you would ever try painting it everything's taped off it's time to do the scrubbing on the floor but I'll spare you that I'm just scrubbing every inch of the floor with the crud cleaner and then I'm gonna vacuum again and then we can start the painting so here you can see my primary is the same brand as I did on the cabinet's but I did not do the oil-based first thing I did was go around with a brush and cut in all of the edges it honestly went really quickly and it was super satisfying to watch since we had a vinyl sheet everything that you're seeing on there is basically kind of like painted on there so there's a little bit of texture and I'll show you an up close later but it's not tile the grout isn't real so as I painted over it it basically just went away and you end up with kind of a texture if you have grouted tile you will see your grout there are some really cool things you can do with floor paint if you have the time and motivation they sell stencils online you can go through and basically send too long to make it look like you've put tiles down but we kind of ended up with was almost like a cement look just because of the color that I chose and the texture that we had on the floor and I really loved it so it was hard enough to keep the kids and the dog out of this for the painting process I decided to just pass on that maybe next time or maybe in one of our small bathrooms or it's easier to keep people out of here is what a coat of the primer looks like and I'm going to use the rest of this up on there not that exciting to me right now it just kind of looks messy this is me taking advantage of the drying time and starting on sanding the shelves oh yeah because this is the second board but look at these knots does that not look exactly like a sloth these are officially our sloth shelves this little sander I have had for at least five years now and it's not cutting it anymore I have a new one coming but it wasn't here yet once it gets here I'm going to go back over the shelves that'll be again in part two of this video looks dry I haven't actually actually it feels totally dry it's crazy somebody pointed out that this is kind of a llama so comment down below if you think this is a sloth or a llama show I put on some socks to do this just because I felt like my shoes would be a little too rough on it and my socks if it leaves any kind of print for whatever reason you're pretty unnoticeable and it doesn't smell like anything different here there's no paint fumes whatsoever the paint that I went with for the floor is a Valspar porch and floor paint I did research on other options but they weren't easy to get ahold of for me so this is what I had there are options that you can have tinted to colors that you like this was one that was already made up it is in the light gray [Music] I'm gonna be honest it's drying darker than I was expecting so I'm a little bit nervous that I'm not gonna like it I don't think I could ever hate it as much as I hated the floor before this in the morning we'll wake up and we paint again my camera is about to run out of battery and we're about to go pick up something off the facebook marketplace I'm gonna slap a coat down on the top stuff so that it can dry while we were gone and then the only thing left will be the poly seal on top of it wow that's still dry and we're going to test a little patch of the stain that I got for the shells supposed to make it just a little bit whiter I don't know about this I don't think it's gonna make any difference this is an IKEA piece that we picked up from Facebook marketplace my camera lost the footage of me taking it apart already check this out I've got both the shelves off I fixed the problem on the back there's a little broken piece here we're probably gonna add in a piece back here just to give it one extra you know support this'll be the back side I can totally see it come together I'm so excited one two three probably three barstools underneath there it's like seven or eight now at night I've been sanding this feels like all day I'm trying to get the top I wanted to see if I could get it just a light wood and just seal it and leave it at that because we're gonna go ahead and paint all the bottom you can kind of see the difference maybe not that much on camera I hope you can it's been a lot of work between the light wood top and this yellowy seal that's on that came on this I was trying to get the yellow off that was my goal was get as much yellow off I did not take a break I ended up painting this really quickly it was like 9 o'clock at night but I wanted to get it done we waited a few days for it to dry and for the seal on the floor to dry as well before moving it in here [Music] so now I'm going in on this wall I wanted to give it some texture and I am a big fan of peel-and-stick wallpaper it can totally change your room and it's so affordable this wallpaper I found at Target this was super simple for me to do by myself it probably took me an hour you can see here I'm just cutting over the little outlet patch one of the roles that I purchased was defective though so they are going to be sending me another to finish this project so for now I just did the top part of the wall [Music] time for our part one reveal ish because not everything is done but I wanted to show you the progress that we've made so far and I'll point out later the things that will be coming up in part two here's a reminder of the rough shape of the cabinets were in and what the floor looked like [Music] first thing I want to talk about is this floor I was very skeptical as I'm sure you guys were we lived with it for a couple days before I ended up sealing it using the poly acrylic to seal it gave it more of a finished feel it feels just like our floor felt before if they did it a little bit slippery or so it actually feels like a kitchen floor again before it was kind of almost tacky the kids running through there now we've spilled things the dog walked through there and so far I haven't seen any damage to the floor I will update you guys in a few months if you want to see more on that the one thing I will say is because it's a lighter color now you can see things sitting there easily like our dog hair or just little crumbs throughout the kitchen the cabinets turned out so beautiful it makes the room so much brighter changes it completely honestly if you are questioning painting your cabinets or whether that's rolling it or with a sprayer it will make the biggest difference and I want to encourage you to go for it these poles make it feel a lot more modern in here as well I found these off Amazon and they were about $20 for a pack of 20 coming up in part two of the video as you can tell the wallpaper is not done and our coffee nook is not done over here we're putting a little unit to make into a coffee station will put the ninja over there we have a lot of this detail work to do like finishing some of the trim and patching some holes above the sink is a pretty obvious spot we have to work on we plan on getting a wall sconce what we're gonna have to move the wire up with the shelves I need to go back through and Reese and them seal them and actually screw them to the brackets I'll also sand this tabletop and seal it as well part two will also include new countertops and a new sink so if you want to see the whole reveal and walkthrough please hit subscribe like this video and comment down below your favorite part happy cleaning [Music]
