[Music] how's it going everybody this is Jeff man with team reeling the blues you know recently I've done a video showing how I make my drift sinker molds that I use rum drift fishing and I also use them when I'm anchor fishing also but I had a lot of questions come in from people who don't really have a lead pot where they can melt their own lid or don't have the ability or a big drill press that they can use to drill something like that so I decided I would do a little video here and you see a bunch of different versions of these type of drift weights but I want to show you my take on a couple of the drift weights out there like say normally I just use stick weights this one here is about 3 ounces again I use a mold that I make if you haven't seen that video it should pop up right up here click on it and watch it it's pretty good video but these weren't real good I really don't have a problem these getting hung up any more than any other normal drift way they do bounce and dig in a little bit more than some of the traditional drift weights like the slinky weights you make buy stuff in the shot inside the paracord but that's just one version you'll see several versions out there you've also got these ones like this these are made by BoneTown I think it's a name correct it's BoneTown catfishing they're around here like watery you can look them up online I'm sure but they make a version they even make kids it has everything already put together but it's real nice drift way it's more of a slinky type version they seem to work pretty good this one here is about two and a half maybe three ounces like I said you can make your own but sometimes it's just easier to buy them I'm not sure the price on these on one of these in a raffle I have used them they're good drift weights there's also the ones made out there by bloodline they're more of a solid stick type weight and they also have that style weight also and you also have the drifted sticks which are more of a solid piece of tubing I'm going to show you how I make my bird of the Larry Muse I hope I'm pronouncing his name correctly dragon tail weight that he makes I seen it on Steve Douglas show years ago and it's a pretty good drifting away works really good for around this area and it's pretty simple it's about as simple as you can get you really don't need any specialized tools to make them actually send him a message and told him that I was gonna do a video on my version of it first just out of respect like I say he was the first one I seen to come up with this idea and and like say he sent me a message right back and said go for it so I got a lot of respect for him for that because he's just out there they're just trying to help people catch a better fish and bigger fish so in his version of it he uses yellow wiring up well first what we got here is we got some piece of half-inch three-eighths ID three-eighths on the inside rubber tubing or vinyl tubing here this is some stuff that I've had for a long time that's why I sort of got the shape to it you can straighten this out you just got to heat it a little bit and it will eventually relax and then it gets straight but for me I don't mind it because it helps it stand up you know to stand up like this is it's going along the bottom but in his version he uses something like the Gorilla Glue you put a little glue on this wire nut and you'll notice that yellow ones will go right up inside there and all you got to do is just push it up inside of it like that I'm not gonna push it too off a farm up in there but you push it right up inside the home like this and you get the glue on it and that'll hold it and it won't pop out and then while he does in his version he feels it with some sort of lead either using lead shot or some sort of thing like that but what I usually do just to make it easier I put my lead shot what this is this recycled lead shot it's just all different sizes but I put it in a little container like this and I'll pour you can see it starting to fill it up down here I poured about half full and like say you can make these up to 2 foot long that right there gives you about two and a half ounces it's quick and easy and then what he does he takes the st. takes another yellow wire nut puts a little glue pushes it down in there and then he's got a completed rig and he'll take a little I hook the kind that's got the closed end on it he'll screw it in to the end of it and let's say you could pull the video up on I think his Steve Douglas has a good version of it just punch up I think he calls it the dragon tail and he's got his version of how he makes it well that's how you make it pretty much in a nutshell now what makes my version of it just a little bit different as I'll show you all right I've got these cut I cut them off at 16 inches long and you notice on the version that Larry makes I left the end square well on my version if you'll notice I've got a long taper cut on one in this would be where we hook our line all right let's show you how I make mine it's crazy right now is rattles and stuff like that to catch catfish and we all know that catfish are attracted to sound scent and movement anything like that they their senses are a whole lot better than ours they're used to living in a dark environment so their body is designed to pick up those little subtle rattles and those little subtle vibrations coming through the water so what I do on my version again I make my own molds here this is a three ounce sinker so just to make it quicker than using the shot what I do is I use this sinker again glue it in I'm not going to glue idiom but use the glue put it on there push it right up inside of it like that there we go we've got it stuffed up inside of it and what I usually do is I try to turn the end that's got the holes in it this is used in my sinkers that is or a version of it I try to turn it where the holes are on the outside that way if you need to add more weight all you got to do is just put another swivel on it like this pop another swivel on and you can add more weight as you're going down through there anyway this is how I start it but here's what makes mine a little bit different so we got this glued in so then like say rattles is the craze and everybody knows it's hard to find big rattles so I came up with this a little bit of an idea and like I say y'all are probably gonna laugh but if you go to Hobby Lobby or any of these craft places you can buy these these are Christmas bells now these wouldn't work if this wasn't watertight but since its watertight these work really good listen you hear the rattling well they work really really good and you can take these these are the smaller size they even make a one size smaller than this and these will literally slide right down inside this tube and what's nice about it was when they slide down the tube they kind of lock in place and they don't move around a lot so what I do is I'll take one of these bells I'll stick it right down in there then I'll just push it on down in there to where I want it you don't want them you know all the way down here at the bottom you wonder what kind of high that way they'll bounce around a little bit but you can see I'm just taking them pushing them right down through the tube just like that now here's where I like a lot of rattle so what I do is you can buy these these are glass beads you can buy these at Walmart you get about 50 of them for a dollar same way with these bells you get 80 of these bells for three dollars these little rattles what I like to do is take a couple of these glass beads drop them down in there and then stuff another one of these in there trying to do this for the camera makes it a little more complicated but trust me it don't take that long and it's cold out here in the garage if it was warm these are slide riding they're a whole lot easier you see just push it right down there now listen to this and I'm just barely shaking you see so what happens is those glass beads will roll and bump into these bales and it also has these bales have little pieces of Lydon's or steel inside them that rattle anyway so now you have a rattle inside your dragon tail and if you want to you can add another couple beads and then stuff another one like say you can get 80 of these for like three bucks again I'm not really pushing that hard push it right down in there now listen I mean ant right there will definitely get a fish's attention plus it's got a little color to it okay now we got all our bells stuck in there and we got some glass beads and like I say you could have put five six of these bells in there and put a glass bead between each one of them can you imagine how loud that would be coming through the water and you've got this big weight on the bottom of it you can hear it I'm not even really shaking it that hard you can hear it making a lot of noise like say it would be no problem at all to drop a couple more these glass beads and stuff one more of these in there and you can see those bales are just the right size that they bind up I mean that sounds awesome so now that we got that in study you can use the wire nut and glue it in there but what I do I buy these smallest styrofoam flute they sell again Walmart you can get I think five for a dollar but what I do is I take these again put a little gorilla glue on it put some gorilla glue right there slide these right down inside the weight push it all the way down in take this pin out put a little gorilla glue in there shove the pin right back down inside the hole and once you wind up we win I'll push it all the way down in there alright so now we've got the stomping bomber pushed down in there you can see I pushed it way down inside of it I got put a couple extra drops of the gorilla glue in there to seal the top of it where no water can get in it I got a hole drilled right through there and we've got four bales in it and we got about six bees now listen works really really good and it's pretty simple rig all you got to do this hook your swivel to it right there huh there you go now like I say this rig works really good cuz this heavy end I'll lay down and because that extra floatation you got up here this thing floats up off the bottom you can see it's floating up about 10 this at the bottom so you can see how far above the bottom this floats and it keeps it where they hit same thing it just slides right over I don't want a head made another version real quick tip sort of like what Larry made I went ahead and put the wire nut in the bottom of it and glued it in I filled it with lead shot and I used the glass beads instead of belt like say in the assortment packs you can get of these beads at Walmart they have all these different sizes and you'll notice they have the big size and the small size the big size locks inside here perfectly just like those Christmas bells dip now you go a big one then a glass bead and then you can work with there you could put eight or nine of these interview wonder so they don't weigh hardly anything and listen they make a lot of racket and let's say it's just a different spin on his version it works really really good there we go there's the completed rigs this one here I'm using the bales with some glass beads makes a lot of racket and this is more of a conventional rig like what he used using ledge shot in the bottom with the wiring thing at the bottom but the way I changed it up is I use glass beads and listen a lot of racket and this float actually will help it stand up a little bit more as it's going across the bottle you can see I just drilled a hole through that right there I can take a lot of force before to tear out alright I hope this helps somebody catch their personal best all together I've got maybe 50 cents in those two right there just a different take on a old idea I hope it helps you catch your personal best if you have any questions or comments feel free to leave them I'll answer them as soon as I can thank you for watching
