Imagine to be able to apply any kind of makeup scars or any effects to your actors in post. All of this completely digitally. Well in this video, I'm going to show you how we created our makeup effect from our coffee B-Roll video. Let's get started! If you already subscribed to this channel, well thank you! You're amazing and we really appreciate the support. And if you are new to this channel and would like to see more of our videos think about subscribing, that would be really appreciated! We already made the tutorial about the coffee transformation effect and how to use masking in DaVinci Resolve. If you haven't watched it already and would be interested, here's a link so you can check it out. This effect is a bit more challenging than previous one, and this time to be able to overlay the makeup over Blue's face, we're going to need a Planar Tracker. Instead of tracking one or several points, the Planar Tracker is tracking a texture and can follow it through changes like translation, rotation or scale for example. It also won't be affected by changes in brightness, depth of field or motion blur. Let's jump into DaVinci Resolve! Okay, right here we have a clip that I already rendered, so we can check the effect without affecting the performance. We're gonna play through... and we're gonna see where we want the effect to start. Now! Perfect! Then we have our clip completely ungraded on which we're going to work. I'm going to apply a color grade to my clip. I have here my PowerGrade. I'm going to clean up. Rearrange those. as you can see it's much better once graded and actually you can switch off and on, to see the difference before and after. I'm going to go back to the Edit page because you might have noticed that the window for the effect is actually very short. and it would be a pitty to waste resources rendering the whole clip. So I'm going to go back. Let's see... Right here! I'm gonna split my clip Select and now... We can go into Fusion and start working on the effect. As usual, we're starting with a MediaIn and a MediaOut. Select MediaIn CTRL [SPACE] Type "Planar Tracker" [ENTER] And here automatically, it's going to connect the Planar Tracker between MediaIn and MediaOut. With your Planar Tracker selected go to the inspector on the right. And here we're going to find all the parameters for the Planar Tracker. The first thing and very important is to find a reference point and to set it So we're going to move in our clip up to the last frame. I chose the last frame because there's nothing in front of blue's face and it's going to be easier for the tracker to start with something completely clean. Making sure that i am on the last frame, I'm going to press set to choose this frame for our reference point. For tracker I'm going to leave it at point because our scene is quite simple but if you have a sequence a bit more complex you might want to try hybrid Point / Area. Okay! Motion Type is going to depend on the type of motion in your clip. In our case we're going to choose translation and rotation. You can also tell the tracker on which color channel you want it to track. We're going to keep it to luma and now... We're going to trace the area that we want to track Let's zoom in and we just need to create a polygon shape above the area that we want the tracker to track. You can move the points, curve them. Make some adjustments. Try to keep this polygon as simple as possible because the more you're adding points, the more resources it's gonna cost. Now that we traced the polygon, we're going to use the top left button to track to start. And because there's very few frames it's going to be very fast. Alright, it's already done. It would have been a little bit longer if the tracker had to go through the whole clip and this is why we cut it early on. Let's go to the first frame! Play it through. And you can see how well the tracker did this job Next we're going to change the operation mode to connect pin. And here we're going to give a sense of perspective to our tracker. As our scene was shot with Blue facing the camera, it's going to be quite simple. Okay! To create the makeup, I exported the very last frame and painted over it in photoshop. Actually i'm going to show you how I did that. In the color tab, you just need to right click on your video. Choose "Grab Still" and right here...Right click. Export and choose png And with this capture in photoshop, you just need to create an upper layer, mask the picture after creating your effect and export it back into DaVinci Resolve. and now i'm going to drag and drop our image and connect it to the Planar Tracker. And assign MediaIn to the left window and the Planar Tracker to the right. Select it and add a Transform node by clicking this button. We are going to use the Transform node to change the size and shape of our image. It is crucial to never add a Transform node after the Planar Tracker or you would break it completely. Select your Transform and here... Let's change the size and play around with the Transform tool to adjust the image to our video. Let's find the right size, move it to the proper place. It looks a bit weird now but don't worry it's gonna change To better adjust the image go to the Planar Tracker and move the points around. At this stage you can see that the makeup doesn't look right And this is because we need to merge it to the picture. Go to merge option... And for "Apply Mode" choose one of the blending mode that suits your image for this video. For this clip, I'm going to choose "Hard Light" and bring it down to make sure that it's merging better with the rest of the picture. Let's jump to the color page to check how it looks. Well that's pretty good! There's one thing that we can do to make it much better. I'm gonna go back to Fusion. With the Planar Tracker selected Go to the toolbar, click Ellipse. And we're going to use this to create a mask. Resize the ellipse. And you can see that whatever is outside of it is disappearing. Let's zoom-in To make the blend more natural, add some soft edge. And this is pretty good! Let's go back to color! And this is merging a lot better! The last thing that we have to do is to make this makeup appear progressively. Back in Fusion, go to the first frame. Select the Planar Tracker. Go to settings and here we're going to change the blend mode. Let's go to the first frame. For Blend, bring to zero. Add a keyframe. Go a few frames before the last. Another keyframe. Bring it to one. Let's go to the Edit page and let's play the whole clip. Good thing that we cut. We don't have to re-render all this part. Transformation... Very good! And now you can create digital makeup on your video. And with a bit more work, you can get some crazy results. So if you enjoyed this video, you know what to do. Give a thumbs up. Subscribe And we'll see you. In the next video. Huumm! See Ya!
