Differences in Upscale (Subtle) & Upscale (Creative) in Midjourney

[Music] okay thanks for joining the video today we're going to play around with some new features in mid Journey version six so if you're already using six um that's uh great if you're not using six you can adjust that in the settings command which is just slash settings and then just click on version six so uh we're already going to assume we've got a really great image to play with and here you can see I've got one which is some tropical flowers that I made and uh you can see they prompt I'm not going to go into that but what we really want to talk about is downloading and using the files and there's a couple things here that you should really be aware of first is that there are some aftermarket plugin that work really great for upscaling images uh I recommend Trace Journey as you can see if you're still using Discord with mid Journey it's it it's loaded and it's right under here and we could do a bunch of stuff including upscale and we can upscale the image and I'm going to do that right now and we can get two times or four times the uh default resolution that mid Journey gives you and I'm just going to pick two times and the reason I like this is because it's actually faster than using the mid Journey upscale commands and it gives you a really great uh upscaled image that you can use and um all we got to do is just save this to our hard drive and we're done okay now I could take that into Photoshop or Affinity photo or whatever I'm using and I could be playing with it right now all right now let's look at the mid Journey version all right so there are two commands uh that it gives you because we've upscaled this now uh again this is version six uh we've got upscale subtle and upscale creative uh they work the same but they're slightly a little different so upscale subtle is really going to upscale the image to two times just like we just did with Trace Journey but what it's going to do is it's slightly going to change some things you may or may not notice let's go ahead and do that and so it's working on it right now now upscale creative is that works the same way but it's going to alter the image slightly uh and subtle doesn't give you many changes but upscale creative doves and let's go ahead and do that and you we'll take a look at the difference all right so as you can see upscale subtle has a jump on the upscale creative and in the video here you know we might you know pause and edit to because there's going to be some downtime while it's working but because we want to show you the speed that this stuff works with this is going to be unedited so it might take a uh a little longer than you might want to wait around for but we're not going to edit here just so you can see how long things take and right now you can see that we're at uh 93% for our subtle and we're at 15% for creative and we're almost done with subtle and as soon as that's done we're going to pop it up and take a look and uh here we go so that's done upscaling and if we click on it and we're going to open in browser uh you can see it's a really nice super image and we can uh save as and we can save it to our hard drive just like we did earlier now here's something you need to know is that if you were to download this version which is not the open and browser version that is not the upscaled uh image so make sure if you're doing the upscaling in mid Journey that you open in the browser to download it because that is what has been upscaled this is more or less just a thumbnail and it'll be very frustrating for you if you try to use this version because it's doesn't have the resolution that you want all right so let's check back on our upscaling creative it's almost finished it's at 93% it'll be finished here uh momentarily and we'll compare the two and we'll play we'll have a little where's Waldo we can see what is actually change so um so let's go ahead and uh open that open in browser now here's the difference between the two this is the creative version and this is the subtle version as you can see some of the leaves are different the flowers a little different and so it's changed it slightly we'll just toggle back and forth it it everything is basically where it is in the original but it's changed a little bit so this is important to know uh because if you really like the original version uh you probably don't want to click uh upscale creative so let's go ahead and we're going to download that to our hard drive and we can be using these uh for a poster or an art or whatever we're doing later and it's it's good to go so anyway thank you so much for watching the video video please be sure to uh subscribe to the mid Journey uh experience newsletter and we'll check you next time [Music] thanks [Applause] [Music] he
