terry vaughn vaughn yeah very funny sketch about people who didn't win the emmys uh scott the guy from quantum league whatever anyway presenter they had reggie watts doing the dj they had a lot of blacks uh nominated lights the announcer between segments michaela cole won though by the way and and i just want to tell people they like i used to call myself a writer multi-hyphenate uh and michaela cole is the reason i don't she won for yourself outstanding right i'm gonna tell you i'm gonna tell you why though before you before you mother me you already know she won for outstanding writing limited special i believe or something like that for i may destroy you she wrote all 12 episodes yes by herself 190 drafts 190 drafts yeah and they say writing is rewriting my temperament getting images we made up 44 black and brown people of denominations and didn't get any of the major awards but look it's 2021. we have to stop expecting something different we have to stop expecting our open enemies to feed us to close us to shelter us we have to stop expecting people who have colonized us to educate us and we have to stop expecting people who have made a history of exploiting our culture of mocking our bodies our hips our lips our noses and then going to get surgery to look like us to make fun of our music and call it devil music and then make billions and trillions of dollars off whether it was jazz blues rock or hip-hop they don't love you so stop looking to their award shows for affirmation stop looking for their awards to to verify who we are accept your own and be yourself that means leave them alone are the images wrong yeah are the images racist absolutely but you can't continue to be disappointed because disappointment reflects an expectation and at this point after 400 plus years you got to stop expecting stuff from them from them i know and he leaned in on that listen not only do i agree this is the reason for kev on stage studios streaming service at what point are you tired of asking for an invite to the table they got the table they got the everything but the wins right and a lot of times what happens is our pain our we win a lot for our how these um what these academies look like and how the voting process is um i am a voter on one of the major major award shows for us so i do know what the voting process looks like when your voting pool is or the voters are comprised of mostly white people you can expect for mostly white people to take away the awards because like you said we as black people watch several shows that don't speak to black culture necessarily like we love the office we love ted lasso we love a lot of shows where the premise is not about driving for black people or the black experience i can't say that is the same for white people so when you're looking at this long list of people that are supposedly for your consideration to vote for if they have not perused that show ever if they are not a fan of that show that person is not going to win so it's already stacked against us and it would take a lot to stack it so that it's more evenly and as i was saying on our podcast um while obviously black people are always my priority i also look at the fact that asian representation be crap latino representation poopity poop poop man um so it's not just um a black or white thing even though as black people we do comprise a lot of the on-screen talent uh on a lot of shows but it's just i feel like right now tracee ellis ross and especially anthony anderson they are just tokens they are the token black person that they're like your show's good we're just going to throw you in this category tracy we gave you an award anthony just show up in a cow suit and uh we'll be happy to have you here um so i do get what he's saying the the one reason why i can understand why people still are tugged by that uh this is what i did say in the other podcast you didn't say it again twice i didn't hear it i know you didn't um so don't give me a short version is the camera give me everything you said the cachet that comes not just the cachet the pay that comes with going from emmy nominated to emmy winner so it is hard to want to give up trying to get a seat at that table because you realize how many doors it could potentially open you know issa egg was fire prior to her emmy but then she was on more fire when she got her image hey to that point what happened to a lot of black actors when they win that they level up and then they create their own stuff right exactly david spencer did it viola davis did it uh michael b jordan he didn't win and do it but he once his platform was elevated he used his star power and creates raising dion uh-huh you know what i'm saying uh east ray's got her whole digital thing so i see how the cache is a thing it's a thing so my thing is while i won't knock someone for still wanting that accolade because they know what doors it could open especially when it comes to revenue it's uh especially seeing debbie allen getting her just do this yeah i about started crying i was just like because she has been a phenomenal part of what i have wanted to do in my life and um so i think it's about the duality of yes you can still aspire to get one of these things and hopefully when you get it you continue to create more doors and more opportunities for other minorities to be able to work even if they never get recognition from institutions is a good way to put it i forgot when they always say i want to academy the academy the academy to these academies so yeah you know uh it was sad to see how many black folk lost i was just like ah a jesus but i just also said now just personally i just be like it's just it's a shoe-in i really feel like we need to do a sketch show i'm not saying this year but the fact that there was only two in that character no i wouldn't would it be not awarded no could it be if it wasn't on a pla like on hbo or something like that i don't know how i'm not saying we're not big i don't know how it works i do believe so i was for your consideration for emmys a couple of years ago for what for what show atypical nate netflix in the show put me in the category on that and i was like i know her i was so shocked that was so good in there you thank you michael rappaport and it was fun he's a great actor i mean regardless of how he is as a person in regular life outside of me he's a great actor and i was excited to act up against him he was uh his best road to me i you know speaking of his acting remy in higher learning of course i was like this dude is a skinhead who's conflicted yes i buy it he's great but i was not nominated i was in for your consideration in the same category that tiffany haddish won um the year prior oh okay um my last thing i want to say about this is um i had a pitch yesterday and we had been preparing for it for months getting ready we had a pre-pitch meeting scheduled when i got to the studio you know what happened they forgot about the meeting they pushed it and i was just like and i know why i pitched these things i know why i need hollywood if i can sell one thing that makes a huge difference it can power kev on stage studios for four years i know my reason but when they push and they it's like the airlines when when they push the flight or cancel what are you going to do what are you going to do they have the air plane when they say when your flight's delayed you can't be like no you leave it now yeah 12. it was at 12 i don't want 12 15. i've been there when we were in amsterdam one time i would never forget this we were up there remember this josh flight was at 12. we get up there huffing and puffing sweating we're up there at 11 30 they're like they're not even announcing it's delayed they're just like so we went up and uh and go like hey what's going on with the flight they're like we'll leave when we leave oh jesus i was like because they didn't tell me that it's cause all that weed there's a person up there and me when we went back and sat down we were like you don't you there's nothing to do with the airline they have the most what you finna do fly yourself walk drive if you leave i don't care we'll sell your seat and that's how hollywood feels a lot of time it's like they can big dog you and big time you and uh but the other part is when you show them you're not needed they come around because watch i'm gonna tell you what we sell our first show when it happens because i know it is all them other meetings that i had everybody conveniently remembers all those generals i have all those of course we should make we should do something oh let me tell you what i hate about hollywood the bump in right you bump into somebody in the city we
