it did actually break yo dude it is a dill I can bear you know that when you came in before I'm such a huge you know I still get letters from people saying that they can't watch that last said they can't they won't watch it if actually I think it's the least watched episode I ever made we don't want to see him done no they don't need a stone and you I mean you were so true to him to her to her writings of him and what he was and that was so important to me and that was my brief from the Agatha Christie estate as well you know because the audience was mainly a readership and they wanted the readership to see what Agatha had created and that's one of the reasons I did what I did well you nearly didn't do what what you did because was it before you started shooting the first series it was there a bit of a rounded you resign because the clothes weren't right I did III did well because I was I had my brief and I wanted to do it as she wrote it and I studied and studied and studied and studied I knew what he would wear at certain occasions and when I wasn't allowed to do that because they wanted to do something different I said well no I've had gonna be Agatha Christie's Poirot then I must be him in totality and not just in part so I said look it's it's best we don't start that's all okay very nice kindly yes I mean there have been scripts I've seen written are after her death that involve Perrault and bu that was just a absolute no that was no because you know I done every story she'd ever written and there was no need to go on in stories that she hadn't written and and the title of my series was Agatha Christie's Poirot it wasn't just for oh yeah and B estate because I think Christy's daughter sadly died now but um but but the estate were happy with the way you did it they loved ya I never met Agatha but the great greatest compliment you know I still get quite emotionally I think about it because she actually said that famously her mother hated people playing for her it would never came up to expectations of one morning when she came up on the set and said I have to tell you I think my mother would have been very well that's a lathe yeah what about the what about the walk I read that he walked in a certain way the quote was he crossed the lawn in his rapid mincing gait and I was filming in briar at the time and I read that Olivier did a trick and he put a penny in the crack of his backside and tried to walk and he he ended up mincing and that's the famous story of course so you see that's why no one can ever say to you please would you just show us the walk because no one ever in the same way that they would say it was hard to watch anyone play bar it hard for you to see anyone else play him I find it harder the viewer to what I always saw people play him before me yeah and I took over from the great Peter Ustinov but I knew that I would never have a television interview I would be asked what I think of the latest because I mean the Christmas obviously box was a happy ABC man John Malkovich and that that avoids me having to give an opinion because it's not right it's not right for me to sit here in judgment of other actors well he didn't have a moustache you know characters have to move on we have to evolve and that's art I bet I didn't watch it because now I have no opinion and that's best what you have been doing with your with your time after Perot is constantly working but the the play that you I think he previewed last night didn't you with with the price oh yeah we had we had the most extraordinary experience last night it was like this is my first fifty years in the theatre present last night was and we're doing this wonderful play by Arthur Miller you know it's a story it's Arthur Miller's classic it has family it has two brothers it has a brother and his wife all coming together to sort out their late father's possessions who's going to get what and this but there's you know it's about marriage it's about brother relationship and it's Arthur Miller so it really is it's quite but you know they get convinced a confrontational and yet into this story comes me an 89 year old furniture salesman and dealer and he brings in what Arthur Miller very really has in his place huge comedy now you never quite know what you have until you start to perform it with an audience and we did this at the Theatre Royal Bath for three weeks and it was a huge hit and last night was our first night with the London audience I'm here to tell you that we're all very excited because you never know until this relationship starts with the play and an audience and the cast you've got with Brendan Coyle Adrienne Lucas heiress to myself all of us suddenly the audience is roaring with laughter one minute and on the turn of a sixpence they're going like that this is rare and we never know we got it until we actually experience it so for the first time in many a year I've got a matinee or two and I can't wait together very excited I mean Brendan said to me last night I can't wait for tomorrow to show this is unheard of with you I mean this is us we just said your 50th year within within the industry but you have done this play before I did this play when I was 25 when you were 25 it's a different role with the same row oh great when 89 year old at 25 right but you see this is a very different way curry then oh well yes because I didn't know about life right now I'm bringing my life to it anyway it took me four hours to make up to look like 89 then and now I don't wear anymore well you were you certainly are keeping yourself fit and active because and I think if you'd listen to your brother David you would never dump her in the first place he's a don't touch it with a barge pole no that's right go will you both together with your families when you went up magic Bishop we were yes there was us two brothers and our and our wives and we did it all for charity challenge for a food for a charity and we were part of a group of about 30 people and we went into training for six months beforehand and we did this trek to machu picchu and it was a life experience never to be forgotten and never to be repeated it's gonna say if you for any more adventures on the horizon that you'd like to do any more mountains to climb no well I I have a funnily enough I in the pipeline there could be I know there's a narration of certain pilgrimages that are done in England and somebody has suggested I walk from I think it's Linda's farm something like a hundred and twenty miles to the next destination I'm I'm thinking about it but it won't match what I would like I'd like you to be way too busy to do that because you are making at the Poirot movie that's what I think I can't I have to be asked and I think that because there is still an appetite otherwise you know no one would have watched at Christmastime at John Malkovich and so then it's still an appetite you've done every single one of the stories that one thing you haven't done is the movie so you know if ITV don't want to do it then what about Netflix guys there's a Poirot movie to be making extra I could die anything whatever yeah it was my idea I want it I want down I'll just walk through but you do it if you were asked I'd do the movie would right I wouldn't do another television yeah but I do the movie I'd love to do that happens I'm having lunch with the ITV boss today so the price which is what we're talking about it sounds fantastic it's the Wyndham theater until the 27th of April yes to see you lovely to be on thank you very much you
