David Blaine we've been talking all about and we're so excited to have him on a magician a performance artist an endurance artists so many different things that you do you have Florida theater tonight's to learn more about it go to david blaine comm we also have a ticket giveaway coming up but welcome to River City live thanks for taking time out of your schedule to come hang with us we're really excited Abbi so half of me yeah so you know what things I just want to talk about it's just obviously you do magic but I think you really made it cool at least in my eyes when you came on the scene and you did Street magic and then just all the other things that you do because it's not like I hate to say like a Vegas show you're just like real and you just like tap into people and the connection you have it's amazing you kind of put it back on the map I think for a lot of people it's because I grew you know I grew up in Brooklyn with a single mother so the first nine years of my life or so we didn't have much so I love magic but I just used playing cards that was all there was so as I started working on magic wasn't kits and things like magic kids magic sets so I learned how to focus on the people which to me was a magic and then I started realizing the reaction is really the most interesting part of the magic and then that was where that idea and when you did Street magic it's the connection with total strangers and you know when you walk up like hey somebody in the club because that's like your thing and then you bring people together and at the ending there's like a crazy connection with like a group of people just by watching what you did yeah that's why I took me such a long time to develop the actual stage show that you're coming to me because it was like I wanted to figure out how to make a show that has a kind of honest interaction so there's a lot of audience participation yeah the whole show is that's amazing what started your love for magic when I was like 5 years old my mother gave me a deck of cards and I held that deck of cards all the time I would fall asleep with it because I thought it was such a cool thing and then I would wait for her sometimes at the library and this librarian taught me a very simple self working mathematical trick when I did it to my mom she went crazy like it was the most amazing thing so I actually started to believe that I was a magician or that I could be I still believe it as a kid because I mean I feel like there's this higher intellectual part of what you know that's not true but but there is a truth to magic and cards and numbers does help mathematically so until I was like probably 13 years old I was really really strong in school but then I started thinking more about magic and other things what about the endurance side of things that you do where you have to be I would imagine in just amazing physical condition you know like where you're you're buried or you'll go days without food where you actually have to go to the hospital later you know I mean where they have to like that actually began because of once again the opposite so I was born with my feet turned down I was asthmatic so I was like the weak kid and I would be at the YMCA and I was on the Sun team but I because my feet weren't straight I couldn't swim as fast so while the kids were learning how to breathe turning their head I would just swim straight and not turn my head to breathe and I would just do laps back and forth holding my breath and the coach stopped doing that but I was able to keep up with the other kids that way so I kept I kept pushing myself with endurance without realizing it and then at the age of six I discovered Houdini and I read here's a guy that could stay underwater for three and a half minutes while scaping from shackles so you know I start to become obsessed with the idea of like what can be done how long does it take you to come up with like some of your big bigger expert exhibitions this show that I'm working on tonight is basically like 20 years of wow you're really proud of that I'm sure because combination and everything what about around with your family I mean when you go to a family reunion or a party where you've known everybody for years and years is there an expectation for you to entertain everyone around here can you just let loose and be yourself I mean everywhere I go basically I'm always doing magic is that because you want your because people are something right wait well you're just gonna say eating space when we started this has been actually already kind of started I don't even your I don't know maybe for this one maybe I'll slide in between yes okay okay and you see all the cards are different I don't know if they can see but yeah okay good sort of any card that you want you can have so just choose one doesn't matter uh any card with Queen Hearts okay and let the camera see it and you know what I would actually if you could put your name on it - that would be really good and the visible border yeah and if you could show it so they can all see it great here it is good and you could close that so and by the way you didn't check but the ink is dry it's not coming off that is correct you'll see that it's a little far but I like how you're thinking of things to check on you because we don't even know how to go that far in palma no the other oh now look what i do with your card so i put your card on your hand and the ink won't get on your hand put your finger right on the center yeah and I use this card as well yeah eight of clubs yeah I don't know if you can all see that it's like the eight of clubs watch them move I just get it just right I'm not sleeping in that I don't know why I'm like nervously been shuffling our cars um so we'll do this maybe nobody examined the cards but just yeah yeah I mean I can clearly see that that's just a regular I mean can they see yeah so now here's the idea when you do this I guess we can have a few people do it do like this no we'll do this way okay just grab take like two cards doesn't work good okay don't you take you take two okay the last did you take two or what yeah we take Group a group okay good - is that cool doesn't matter don't look at that like um by the way if before you look at them if you want to change anything you can you're not sure but I didn't look at you guys liquor now no I didn't like oh wait so hold on there's a four digit number that it's very important to you but not something like the pin code -
