hey everybody and welcome to another darkest dungeon mod overview my name is element 5 and tonight we're taking a look at the werewolf developed by own nightmare and hooded lay in conjunction with carnufex with artwork done by ACE ro steel um the werewolf has been a favorite modded class of mine for a long time partly just because I'm a big fan of classic horror but in general she is just a lot of fun to play if you're going to be going against bosses or enemies where riposte is really really useful she kicks butt but all of that power and fun comes at the cost of reliability you don't get to choose when to make her go beast form because it is a 60% chance to happen in most cases and you don't get to choose to keep her in beast form because you have a lot of abilities that have a 20% chance to transform her back to human this is something that's fairly unique in the darkest dungeon sphere and I think is a lot of fun the idea that like can through pee is sort of a disease is something that has happened to you in the same vein with moon cycles or maybe the Hulk's transformation and in the Marvel Universe for example it is something that you don't have full control over and while you may retain for the most part your human intelligence you are always the victim of a disease or chance or things happening to you unlike other transformation classes where the utility of transforming is something that you that is a lot more selective now as with many other of my favorite modded classes she has just a phenomenal development team behind her and comes with a lot of interesting backstory who did lay is just a phenomenal human being that I really really adore she has become one of my channel mods and just a prominent member of my twitch community and she's also just an insanely accomplished artist she made me this really beautiful piece of art a sort of darkest dungeon rendition of myself as the hound master featuring my two dogs my British Bulldog Agnes on the right here who is fearless and absolutely ridiculous and the perfect portrait of my timid but hyper smart Boston Terrier penny down below but she also graced the darkest dungeon community with a really beautiful backstory comic strip for the world which helps to just give a little bit more of an examination and explanation of the this anti heroines troubled past and Leigh says that the werewolf comes from a poor family of artisans they had their own workshop and made some money through crafts paintings and sewing and with that the werewolf is knowledgeable with the art field although her specialty is sculpting and carving however they were often exploited by the nobles of the region and fell into debt the only way to settle things straight would be for the family to sell their workshop if they couldn't acquire enough money before a deadline and a desperate act to acquire such money the werewolf turn to petty crimes at first such as stealing but as time grew short she escalated to mercenary work and murder she had now a double life humble crafts woman by day and mercenary at night she still had halfway to go to be able to save the family's workshop and mercenary work isn't really something you can openly advertise so after hearing about a group of ruffians who pillage villages way off of her region she decided to seek them out and join them with the hopes that one raid would be enough to conclude her facade beat her looks or actual competence she makes it in and manages to gain rank among the bandits however she wasn't expecting the share of the goods to be so unbalanced and is now stuck in a team of criminals just two or three more raids and she'd have enough to run away and return home but her reckless plan got flushed out when a bounty hunter had been planning to take their leader all along shortly after being jailed local scientists were experimenting with blood transfusions except they weren't so picky when it came to which animal to draw blood from and the animals they were working with were nashor's from the Weald they concluded that the blood had special properties as the dogs were still vicious despite having exposed bone and muscle after proper care and development of the acquired blood it seemed to work on the new subject eventually the werewolf turned into what she is and shocked with the realization of such destructive power escapes the facility after getting rid of all data pertaining to herself in the experiments after running a good distance from the lab and making her way through rooftops into some of the woods she overhears a group of people talking as a turn of fate the group is Volks brigand she realizes they're planning their next ambush and heading to the hamlet ahead she then plans to take what they owe her and more the werewolf feels short on time having spent so much in captivity and as an experiment and so now is driven mostly by wrath and greed she'll take what she can in hopes of getting her workshop back hoping that by the time she returns it hasn't been sold already now as with a lot of other transformation classes you can kind of break down her kit into two groups you have the back group here which is the group of ability she's gonna use wall a werewolf and then the front three here which are gonna be that those which she uses in human form but what really separates her from other transformation classes is this stuff right here usually the first ability and a transformation class is reserved for just transforming from A to B but in this case bloodshed Clause is actually an attack and you have this information down here a 60% chance when used as human to transform to beast and a 20% chance when used as beast to transform to human now that is what is interesting about this class and that you will see in a lot of different abilities here so if we look at this one as well this using this one will also have a percentage chance to transform as Beast whereas if we just look at something from the werewolf kit then we can see at the bottom here 20% chance to change to mode human so while you will be transforming from human mode to beast mode for the most part you don't really have control over that the only exception being this right here which is regain humanity which we'll talk about in a second this will force her to transform from beast mode back to human form so breaking down her abilities here it's just important to understand again that she is really they just take a look at these these dots up here she really is very useful in every position except for rank 4 she has a little bit of shuffle in her kitchen back with certain in certain circumstances but for the most part about position 2 or 3 I think is where it's perfect to sit her and we'll get into why in a second but let's just take a look at blood shed claws first ability bloodshed claws can be used in position 1 2 or 3 attacks both enemies in position and to it is a melee attack that has a 110 percent chance to land a - twenty-three percent bleed resist debuff on the enemies and then this is where it gets interesting if you're human you will move forward once and then you have a 60% chance to transform into beast mode which activates riposte and gets +5 accuracy and +2 crit while reposting so normally when you see this array of percentage chances on an ability it means independent die rolls it means you have a 60% chance for this to happen and or for this to happen these are independent die rolls but in the case of the werewolf all of this is one collective percentage chance if you use bloodshed claws as human form you have a 60% chance to activate all of this at the same time however if you use bloodshed claws as beasts form you now add a 110% base chance to land a 2 / 3 bleed at level 2 and have a 20% chance to change back to human form so that's what's fun about this class you have a powerful ability here that's gonna pull her forward and has a 60% chance to turn her into the Beast and activate repost but if you are the Beast and you use bloodshed claws you now just have a chance to bleed both Rank 1 and 2 with a 20% chance to turn back to human yes elated continually onslaught destroy them so next in her human kit is horrendous roar horrendous roar can be used in position two three or four cannot use it in the front line and it can target any enemy it's a ranged ability which will break guard it will shuffle a target with a shuffle for one round at 110 percent chance it has as of recently it has a ten percent chance to do a - to stress at level two - the rest of your party I think this being in the same vein as say the Hound masters cry havoc and again a 60% chance to change to mode beast with riposte and five accuracy and two percent crit Waldrop posting horrendous roar is a really interesting ability that I think will continue to see small tweaks here and there because it is a very effective way to for the werewolf to reach the backline or to shuffle the backline forward it only recently saw the addition of a stress field percent chance and I think in the past this has done a little bit too much damage for the amount of utility you get for it all and although a very fun ability and something that is a really really nice way to just reach the backline and shuffle it up [Applause] so next than in her and her human kit is taunt Todd can be used in position one two or three it marks self breaks any guards that might be on her and then this is the important thing down here it activates her repost it buffs self for five percent damage and two percent crit wall reposting with a 30 percent chance to transform to the werewolf during the riposte hits so taunt is the way to think about taunt is this if you are up against a group of brigands or a big AoE group or suddenly you are up against the crimson court boss that has multiple turns they're gonna a away your group and you really need to activate repost you just wanted you really want a reliable repost then go ahead and hit taht you'll guarantee that you hit back whereas if you use something like bloodshed claws this is a sixty percent chance that you activate beast mode with riposte so this is the guarantee still comes with that 30 percent chance every time you hit repost to transform to beast so then last and her human kit is smoke bomb I really like the concept of smoke bomb here I think it's really effective smoke bomb can be used in position one two or three and it hits the first three of your party so it doesn't reach rank four but every character in your party in position one two or three are going to suffer one HP damage clear mark targets and then buff for ten dodge and can't be marked if you just just think about this for a second if you're in the front line of your group and you throw down a smoke bomb you suffer one HP damage because you're all choking on the gas right but you're also clearing the enemy's ability to mark a target and to see you very well so you're buffing the dodge so now let's talk about her beast kit okay so you've hit bloodshed Klaus you landed that 60% chance you now have activated beast mode with riposte and the buffs that come with that and now your kid has transformed out of human into the beast abilities and that starts with feast feast can be used in position one two or three it is a clear enemy corpses it has minus a hundred percent accuracy against anything that is not bleeding you heal one additional HP versus corpse and you sell fuel seven percent max HP moving forward one okay with a chat with a chance to revert back to human form twenty percent so what this is is a clear corpse and a self heal that moves forward one if you are taking too much damage you've marked self you're doing a ton of repost play whatever the case is you're in beast form you need to heal there are some corpses out there maybe there are even aren't corpses out there you can use feast push yourself forward one get a 7% max HP heal and then he'll additionally for each corpse you consume I really love the concept behind this mechanic and-and-and I love how this works as a self heal and there's a couple of hidden mechanics here that need to be addressed the first is that bite when using feast you have a chance to cause the rabies disease 3% per target which will actually synergize with certain CC trinkets she actually has trinkets and certain benefits from having rabies which is kind of fun so you have a three percent chance to get rabies per target you hit with feast in addition feast also steals blight from enemy bodies and corpses so this may then sort of into it a little bit less synergy and utility and say The Cove or the ruins if you're bringing a group that is using a lot of blight play and you need to heal and then so you feast and then you consume the blights on there and stack it on herself the good news is she can remove this blight when she transforms back to human but it's just something to keep in mind next in the werewolf get in his head but head but is her stun it is a melee ability that you can use from position one or two you can target enemies in position one two or three there's a hundred and thirty five percent based on chance and then will knock herself back one position it also comes with a 20 percent chance to self destress minus four at level two and a 20 percent chance to change to mode human so basically this is this is an effective stun but it also has the utility of pushing you back one should you need to get back into a different position or rotate somebody forward last then in the werewolf skit is regain humanity regain humanity can be used in any position at level two it is a stress he'll -6 it clears mark target cures blights you know again in case you have used feast and transferred flights this is a good way to cure blight it will guarantee a change to mode human and will buff self 14 dodge and seven accuracy if in human mode form but this is a little important key here though if you are in position one at the end of combat or when you use regain humanity you get minus 100% stress skill so the way to think about regain humanity then is this it is a nice way to get a little bit of self stress heal to cure blight sand marks but if you end combat or use it in position one you don't get that stress heal so that's why I tend to think of using the werewolf as most effective in position two or three so that when combat ends or when you need to you can sustain her stress levels just a little bit easier so just in case you should be then in rank one at the end of combat and you want to retain all of the and you want to retain the stress field that comes with this ability then you could headbutt from rank one to rank two and then at the end of combat or next turn regained humanity and get that stress heal so then you know thinking about her whole kit in summary I mean my mindset about playing her is really to think about the fact that she has she has her human form which you start out in and then you want to try to get her to beast mode most of the time to get her into these three and the way you're doing that is by using blood shed closet mean you really have to openers for the most part because you start default in human most the time you're probably opening in blood shed cause you're pulling yourself forward you're trying to activate beast mode and riposte you might be opening with horrendous roar to try to hit the backline and shuffle something forward it has the same percentage chance to activate beast mode and reposes blood shed claws do so these are really just do I want to start and bleed and try to hit the frontline first or do I want to target the backline first and have the equal chance to turn into the werewolf and if not if you run into say a group of brigands or a sham blur or some-some enemy that's gonna hit you with a OES and you just really want to guarantee you have riposte out then it's time to open up with taunt basically it's at a 30% chance to turn into the werewolf when you hit with your riposte attacks but at least you guarantee you're gonna get the time you're gonna get a riposte hit this way and then really you know bloodshed Klaus is kind of where the bread and butter lies because whether you're in beast form you're gonna get a lot of bleed value out of bloodshed Klaus or if you're in human form you're still gonna do decent damage to the front line but then you also have that chance to move forward and activate beast form another thing that really separates her from other transformation classes is the fact that her transformations do not stress out the rest of your group in fact they stress herself out so this again is sort of playing and on the on the theme that not being in control of lycanthropy that exerting yourself to become to transform and become a beast not necessarily of your own accord is actually fairly stressful and the longer you are maintaining the energy to stay in beast form the longer you're ramping that stress a little bit that is where an ability like regain humanity comes in to just allow you to forcibly return back to human form and stop the stress gain but also to get a stress heal so then the major drawback then here the catch where the werewolf is a lack of reliability because you may not you just may not hit that 60% chance transformation and and get that repost and be landing bleeds in werewolf form when you really really need it and there are certainly cases where I have taken her onto a boss and opened up and gotten exactly what I wanted out of an attack and landed my rippln activated my repost landed into werewolf form and started hitting really hard with bleed reposts and then other boss fights where four five six turns happen and she just can't activate her riposte so his worthwhile to keep both of those things in mind she's not gonna stress out the rest of your group she is gonna ramp stress and take a stress hit every turn that she is in werewolf form and you're not in control of it for the most part so she's less reliable than you would like her to be in many cases now in terms of her camping utility interestingly the werewolf comes with six unique camping abilities and that really starts with bandage bandage is actually not too different than say wound care on other classes which is sort of a standard camping ability time cost to heal 15% H being coming with a cure bandage is very similar as a time cost to heal 12 percent as opposed to 15 but a coin flip on an extra 8% heal chance and only removes bleeding so does not remove blight so next n is hobby hobby a time cost - this is essentially a self use of encourage instead of having another companion use encourage on her and reduce her stress she can use it on herself and reduce her stress by 15 this also plays into her backstory being the fact that she is an artisan that she works with crafts so a really nice interplay between who she is as as a character but also the fact that mechanically you need to think about managing her stress if she stays in beast form too often next that is bite the hand bite the hand is a time cost to self only heals 70 percent HP okay you heal this is a massive sell feel it also removes mortality debuffs but all companions have a 66% chance a two-thirds chance to get 10 stress and one companion suffers 35% HP damage with a bleed of 2 / 3 a 90% chance so then the concept here is she's literally biting another companion in the party which stresses which has a chance to stress everybody out and a high chance of landing a significant bleed over time and taking 35% of their HP in trade for healing herself 70% HP this is a very powerful camping utility and I think is it's definitely something to take into consideration if she's just super low health and you're about to go into a boss fight or you have another character that can manage self healing very easily for example landing this bleed over time and 35% HP damage not going to be that big a deal I mean obviously the flagellant comes to mind but yeah you know it's at the cost of 10 stress to the rest of the party and then a high chance of that bleed over time at 35% HP I think this makes this very interesting to think about healing 70% HP and removing mortality debuff makes me feel like that this should be maybe a more costly camping skill than just a time cost too but depending on how hard you actually hit another companion and then landing that bleed and that stress head that might make it actually balance out fairly well so next is one of her more interesting camping abilities it is a time cost three beast within self only minus twelve percent damage received if in beast mode for the next four battles and for speed versus beasts this is actually seeing some changes over time I think if you're moving through the Warrens and you just you're constantly fighting beasts for example this is a really worthwhile camping skill to have a minus twelve percent damage anytime she's in beast mode is is great in general but then to also have the four speed versus beast enemies just allows her to get set up get into position activate repost earlier and that can be just a really great utility what follows that is on the prowl on the prowl is a time cost five prevent nighttime ambush this is from prevent nighttime ambush utility it is expensive at time cost five but it should be because of all of this down here the party gets three speed ten accuracy and five percent crit on the first round for the next four battles so let's just talk about this ability for a second because it's a time cost five prevent nighttime ambush but I think what's really important here is not so much to prevent nighttime ambush as this stuff down here to have three speed ten accuracy and five crit even though it is only on the first round means a much much higher likelihood of gaining initiative and control over the battle right off the bat right one way to think about doing well in darkest dungeon is to not limit yourself to RNG so to have higher accuracy so that you know your hits are going to connect and you're in control of what you're doing to play a little bit with the crit Mehta is nice because after color of madness crits are have different consideration and people get buffs when they crit now so to have a little bit of crit is a nice is definitely a nice addition here but then you have the three speed on the first round as well what that means basically if you're new to darkest dungeon is you take your speed value of any character and you add that to a dice roll eight and that determines who goes first at the beginning of each round is it going to be your characters or the enemy depending on how high that number is so to just give your team plus three speed on the first round of combat means a much higher likelihood that you enter combat and just gain the initiative and immediately turn it into a four versus three or a four versus two or land your stuns and just have control over the combat right this is why gaining surprise when you walk into combat and every one of your team members goes first can be such a powerful play because you get to dictate the course of combat rather than have to adapt as opposed to say when you don't have prevent nighttime ambush and you become ambushed right the lights are out the enemy team goes first everybody gets shuffled that's the worst scenario you can be in in most cases the best you can be in is to get the surprise to have higher speed and to dictate the course of combat so last thing in her camping kit is gather ingredients this is definitely one of her more unique or interesting sort of out there camping abilities this is a time cost one can be used to times attempt to craft the cleansing elixir a cleansing elixir is a provision that will appear in your inventory which will clear marks and stuns in your party this is to kind of go along with the way that smoke bomb works originally the werewolf came with a free provision which was the cleansing elixir that you would start with in your inventory but that has since changed because the cleansing elixir is something that you can actually bring back to the hamlet and store in your provisions until you want to use it so the cost of that change then is that you actually attempt to craft it when camping now if you think about the application of having an elixir at a provision that you can use to clear stuns and marks in your party obviously something like the swine king fight comes to mind with Wilbur constantly marking and stunning members of your party enhancing the damage output of the swine king so if used in the right moment the cleansing elixir is actually very very powerful and is similar to a certain provision that you can purchase in pitch-black dungeon which we used very frequently so don't definitely don't undervalue this ability at the right time that cleansing elixir is really really powerful but it is not such a primary feature of her class as it used to be now in terms of trinket in the war wolf there's a few things you can think about I mean really you can trinket her in a lot of different ways depending on your your purposes and what your intention is you might have - wow look at this - the gorgeous artwork of the wanted poster next to the treasured lock at the wanted poster showcasing her as a villain as a criminal being sought after by bounty hunters but then also her treasured locket showing off her family life and why she pursued the life of crime that she did just a really really beautiful job here hooded Leigh but you have you know the value that comes with something like a crimson quartering get fifteen-percent scouting chance 8% grit 10% extra stress damage receive which makes perfect sense and is also much more difficult when you consider that the werewolf stresses herself out over time when she is in wolf beast form but then something sort of interesting in quirky here 220 dodge if has rabies so of course remember you can get rabies if you use feast as a three percent chant per chance per corpse so that is kind of interesting to take into consideration I tend to think of using her a lot of times with the ancestors candle to buffer damage output to buff her speed so that she is moving forward and moving into the position shuffling in the direction that I want her to gaining the initiative activating repost before the enemy team has their chance to act so speed I think is typically really good for her dodge is not bad either given that she is for the most part a self marking riposte class so the more that she can be dodging attacks and hitting back definitely really boosting her efficacy of course this the answers for scandal also coming with tempers and stress damage so really just take into consideration dodge is good damage output is great speed I think it's great and anything that's gonna enhance the her damage output but just be mindful of adding anything that has plus stress damage taken because of the fact that when she transforms to beast she is stressed out as long as she's in beast form it's also really important to note that the werewolf comes with no ability to buff her fur to chance okay this makes sense for a couple reasons in particular because when she is in beast form she's gaining stress over time the longer she's in beast form so to be able to just wear something like a hero's ring and then virtue scum and force her into a virtue just doesn't make sense mechanically right that's not a doesn't seem balanced the other major piece of this though is that she has hard set percentage chances for virtues and afflictions because she actually comes with a unique virtue and the unique affliction so a 20% chance roughly four regular virtues a forty three percent chance roughly four regular afflictions but also a hard-coded eleven point three percent chance for a unique virtue which is known as ferocious and a 25% roughly chance to gain the unique affliction rageful I'm not gonna go into rageful and ferocious too much because they're actually both sort of watered-down versions of virtues and afflictions they play into her character a little bit but they both come with positives and negatives which play off of her being either full of rage and a little bit sort of abusive to the rest of the team which also comes with certain positives but also being ferocious a little bit just a little bit too overconfident so some buffs but also some some drawbacks as well and of course she comes with her own unique set of color of madness and crimson court trinkets I
