I remember when Paul and Owen Kelley had spent about a month here and that month will go down in infamy as far as the stories and then the that I think that I don't know the industry is still talking about that month that Paul was here and so then I had questions about that week in Australia so Paul he said that crusher set you guys up what do you remember about when crusher came to you and asked you to help dell june around how much did you even know of dale and and had you guys you know what was that first meeting like he was coming obviously and we know who dial is for sure we do but and then i think we first met it may be phillip island you guys come to Phillip Island and and Topher and JD probably walked into my garage and then started talking to those guys first and then then when they're up on the Gold Coast this is a true story we get a phone call they were angry up on the Gold Coast that's good where you're at they go out we're at Hooters why the hell would these guys come all the way from America and gather who is looters we gotta arrest these guys and Shaun Moran said Wendy said we got to get you out of this place and that's when we thought we had to become property regards and show these guys what Australia was all about and so where was the first place she took him to show him what Australia is all about to the track sitting there talking and he said arm I need to drive something and I'm like okay I can fix that let's go let's get that one done and then then we just can't hit and all the things he wanted to do on the list which we had a good time yeah good tammana the thing I remember is now on your head doctor was you know that's Ryan out of these 50 had all sorts of good things that mean oh really what was this yeah I guess we got thrown out of the nightclub I don't know how that happened I just remember I know that um I think Paul will you remember this remember I mean I would assume that that wasn't the first or the last love you've been thrown out of so what was the what was the situation this kind this time we um I'd you know being a big fan of supercars and going all the way over there to be able to go to a race that was the whole objective really was to see the supercars race and it was our in the wintertime it's their summer they're in the middle of a racing season we went to Phillip Island beautiful part of the country a really amazing racetrack the hospitality it was first class not I mean they treated me really well but they treated all of the people that was with us all my buddies incredibly well know we basically felt like you know the best guests and Paul and his team I hardly knew any of those folks but I knew of Paul cuz I'd watch the series a lot they call him the dude that sounds like must be a good guy they call him he got a great nickname that's right so we ended up hanging out watch the Utes race I didn't know what a ute was a youth might we've talked about this on the show here yeah how they should bring him over here it was with willpower actually well actually um no we remember we were doing a show this is funny Paul we were doing a show Daytona for this February and I was sitting down with the hit with with the General Motors yeah it was Jim Campbell yeah Jim Campbell with Chevrolet and I said hey you guys ought to bring the ute over here he's like he's like yeah you know we've kind of talked about that and it'd be cool and you know kind of brushed it off and then we like two days later they we found out that they'd closed holding down the Chevrolet is gonna end the holding which is which is really unfortunate such an incredible iconic car I don't know how you guys feel about it over in Australia but I love the Holden and have a Commodore myself but that was that was a funny sort of 24-hour space in there but the I got to see the Utes race we had a great time at Phillip Island and he's right we were staying at this area we were staying at a casino in the Gold Coast and right down the street was Hooters and we were we didn't we just this is like the first lunch we're like man we're hungry we all want let's just go to Hooters okay let's see what Hooters is like it in Australia so we go and it was empty nobody in there and my buddies are on the phone Paul and he's like your first Q is that nobody else is in there that's been have been here that should've been the sign so we hung out we hang out with Paul for a couple days there and he's like hey guys he turned us loose one day and he told us he said he said I'm gonna come pick you up pick y'all up tomorrow in a helicopter and I was and take you to the we're going to the winery for lunch and so we walk into he's telling me he's telling us this and I'm like oh man all right how we're gonna get to this we're gonna drive this helicopter I'm gonna where we can I gotta figure out you know where we're gonna go to get to the landing pad he we walk into the front door of the casino is Paul's kind of dropping us off and he says he turns and says to the bellman he goes hey I'm al am a helicopter on that parking deck out there and the the casino had like a 2/3 level parking deck and the guy looks at him and he's like you understand what I'm saying I'm a hint I'm gonna land my helicopter on this parking deck tomorrow morning and the guys like yes sir and I said well mission from the person that controls the building and he gave it to us so yeah as far as off so I'm real good to go and he did we come out there the next morning helicopters on the pad I mean the Hotel Security's out there like how you doing mr. Horace yes sir there's kind of standing standing guard make sure no cars are driving up on this helicopter right by the time he comes to land the helicopter the whole casino was like creating going to going to the best efforts to accommodate Paul is this your life is this the way you live Paul everybody just accommodate you I told him there was a very important guest staying at the hotel that made it buddy that's one of the things that I learned about Australians at least Paul you know is there they're whipped oh yeah that would they will they will embellish a little bit and get a get a joke out of it and also trick the casinos so we so Paul's lies us his family owns a winery tell me about that cuz I'm alright I'm not a wine drinker Paul and still I'm not I'm not today I'll drink your wine okay and so we go to have lunch at this place and we all got gone on wine and I'm like man this is great stuff so that's really the only thing I'll drink you'll send me something every once in a while but how did your family get into that getting in the wine business it was always a passion of my dads and after he became successful in life it was something on her to do and build and I think he's that 20 is that that one who's been there now it's so it was relatively new and we were there yeah it was what two three years old Wow no I said it longer ten you thought might be done so yeah it's it's it's a place where people can come and have fun and also we have big events there as well concerts they would think you have some people they're coming to what's it called atomic it's called serum I warrant which is my dad's initials spelled backwards these knives Terry Edward Morris and you spell Timor ass-backwards it's Sarah my history is the motto now the only wine that Dale Earnhardt jr. will drink yes the best it's all it's all it's really the only one I will ever drink and I just I have tried other Pinot Gris because of his you know I'll try it here in the States some other brands but when he so you're thinkin Australia right if you go to Australia you're thinking kangaroos right you're thinking about thinking about the first thing that comes to my mind is kangaroo so we're flying in on this helicopter and we haven't really seen any of that we've been in the city and in the suburbs for the most part of our trip and when we flew into that winery man it was the most beautiful scene there's kangaroos hopping all over the place as we're hovering over down on the ground I mean they're there right there and just a beautiful place we had a great lunch place was packed full of cheery people everybody was happy and having a great time all the tables were kind of intermingling and laughing amongst each other and with each other just I just remember that is probably the one of my funnest parts of the trip was that lunch we had so that that time when you were here testing out that car right so you talked about how they shipped the car yeah which I remember we kind of just thought they and that's kind of crazy I don't know that we've ever had a car shipped from Australia it right over it straight to dirty mow acres now but but it hadn't happened since I don't believe but then you and did Owen Kelly come with him or was Owen already here okay I'll shut up Owen Kelley is a friend of Paul's go ahead Paul yeah Owen come with me on that trip the that's that's when he stopped and then started driving your light model yeah so Owen comes Owens just a friend of Paul's and Paul's like this is my friend Owen he's a aspiring race car driver and he's really good you ought to give him a shot and we got drunk enough to out of one night that I agreed to let go and race one of our late models for an entire season and so Owen ends up staying in North in North Carolina at one of our apartments yeah one of our rentals and raced a late model for a year that's what Paul Paul comes over to hang out for a couple weeks to to drink and party and then left one of his friends here for a year yeah this is this is the real testimony to that wine is that it landed eoghankelly a job well landing he raced here for a year ended up marrying his wife meeting his wife here de Paul and now he's never had two kids both live in Melbourne so yeah we're having a drunk that wall I know and probably still single so why did they end I remember very specifically hanging out with Paul and Owen in Daytona yeah would how did that happen do you remember this Paul we go we'd go to the test the test right now says to us were gonna leave at 6 o'clock in the 8 o'clock in the morning we're gonna pick up we're gonna fly down to Daytona for the for the test am I like ok I got into Daytona for the test now 8 o'clock in the morning we're at the front of the guest house ready up and I think you want to grab this mark maybe and then he said alright to go I said wait I only said on he flew down to - I literally I mean like man these guys are using jets like they pick I said this is you said all this thing will be going up and down or all day bringing stuff back and forth I got to go back now and pick up a gift box I really like it was like nice to look like The Beverly Hillbillies since the guy that Lane's helicopters own things until yeah like this yeah yeah this is so odd don't find a jet to Daytona whatever you get used to is different country and saying different things it's it's cool what do you remember the Daytona test like being down there what do you remember big night and the funniest thing I remember we're in the Hooters that was across the across the so went to get some watch some some guys there and we'll set down there have a bunch and got talking and then we went back to the budget and we're in the garage with daya laughter they're in the guard house wouldn't you when you just it who does heaven once with his I said yeah I guess what are you doing in his garage he couldn't get we were actually finish in fest so and then what else did we do there we had a pretty good time way ticket to do whatever you want wrap up ice and then we met up with box set that weekend as well so I knew a boris beaubien woman said any before dial introduced me to borrow so now barson I are really close so two sons a similar age and even a really good friends to me the whole thing about my racing is it's incredible met people and and you can be racing anywhere in the world any car any type of racing and two steps away but by having really good connections incredible yeah your friendship with Boris is is pretty special and boris has actually come over to race at Mount Panorama which in that riot II come out you get you set all that up you did wait I'm talking about and you go you should put him in your car about this you know I've noticed something there's a common denominator Paul and us all together or make some awesome play yeah I'll just make some freaking decisions man it don't take long if Boris come out and right with us Bathurst you come out and did some racing at the Gold Coast's 600 the the super car race on the go-karts and I ended up doing a China 24-hour with Boris a couple of times so there was a real Paul came pretty close one time to drive in our expiry car you remember rainy BS and about doing that Paul you wanted me to drive it on an oval and I'm like oh give me a road course oh that was I thought it was the other way around I wanted you to run the road course and you're like no I want to run an oval that was definitely about you and like there's a lot of wine so how close did this kid just just that I mean you wouldn't put him on a rummy we put anybody on a road we were in between drivers and I was like man if it's gonna happen this is the time it needs to happen [Music]
