this is sean we are on a job here today in greensboro and so the reason the homeowner called me out in the first place was this ditch right here and so basically what's happening with this ditch is d.o.t and the the neighbor way up there have changed the way things are flowing and so now this just stays wet all the time she's already paid someone to put a rip-rap channel in here that filled up with sediment instantly she paid someone to re-grade it so it is going downhill but it's it's not moving enough water so i talked to her about getting a culvert in here and then feathering out with more dirt so we may be working on that soon but for now what we're doing is replacing a sump pump under her house um yes we have a we have a garden hose pump right here oh sweet point let's see if we can get that rolling easy that's good and then you got to plug right above your head there ronald [Music] take him yep it's not backflowing anymore now yeah we lifted the pipe up hopefully we can get a park stubbed up into that thing the original sump pump was just sitting in the mud and muck right there and so here ronald is digging out a small basin but what happened is he bumped into the foundation right there the footer and so this also happens to be the low point in the crawl space so this is really where the sump pump needs to be so we're going to end up here in a second having to modify our sump basin to get this to work correctly it's an inch above the holes that hole right there okay now i think if we can fit that around the well line you know what i mean notch it so just mark it somewhere where it wants to be if we dig a little bit so like right here okay and there do we have something to mark with we do watch this marker to right there right there and right there somewhere so we can get around that well line we like to drill holes in the bottom of these basins when they're going to be that shallow so it doesn't have a tendency to float out of there i like it it's a little can it slide in a little bit more in which way under the well line i mean that's it what's it hitting on there's a wall back wall but i guess what's this little thing let's just concrete up that around all that plastic can you uh yeah can you break that off do we have a hammer yeah we're going to be careful that we don't want to bust that schedule 40 line what's that see you'll do some good work you like it a little bit more on this side right here to make it a little more level up what about some gravel in there that might help level up yeah the less level there put a little gravel in there we're kicking man all right we're doing good yeah the old sump pump just had a short piece of discharge pipe and they have this piece of corrugated you can see it right there coming out of the ground and what happened is when that corrugated got crushed the sump pump could no longer discharge out of the crawl space and i think it may have backed up or something but the the sump pump blew out and so all we're doing here is we're using that piece of corrugated as a sleeve so we're running our piece of inch and a half pressure pvc back into the crawl space and so here in a second you'll see the other end of it coming out right next to the sump pump basin [Music] there it is that's it i wanted to show you really quickly the difference between dwv fittings and pressure fittings so on this side we have dwv which stands for drain waste and vent on this side we have pressure fittings and so the main difference here is the gluing surface so you can see that our dwv has a smaller gluing surface than our pressure fitting here's a coupler here so you can see the difference in the couplers as well so dwv pressure so when we do sump pump installs we use only pressure fittings we don't use these dwv fittings all right there's our check valve that's got a little flap in it that when the water comes back down it won't let it get back into the pump okay we're ready to shake this part tonight all right all right boss give me about a three inch piece or about a i need about uh we gotta get this right right there you all ready for this blizzard oh yeah i'm opening it that's pretty but doesn't stick they say snow my wife's feathers flew us oh god why'd y'all have to say that word if i were you i'd push the pump a little bit closer to the center there that way you have a little bit of wiggle room in the future right okay let me have a piece of uh i'll tell you what jeremy if you got a you cutting off that the end piece aren't you yeah just what you need okay let me have a 90 and let me have a i need a piece of pipe roughly see what we got let's go about a three inch piece yeah three inch piece that'll give us a little bit of wiggle room those two angles don't change so you get those two for in there first right and then when you put the other one in you turn it wherever it's going to land and then it's good to go makes sense yup so i always do the angles that won't change first and then he'll do this all all at once and that pump will find me will you get out the end of that pipe and hold it for me i'll be happy to sir thank you all right here we go sweet good sean yeah don't turn it any way anywhere while i can yeah wherever you want to say whatever you like it that's good right there yeah sweet and we can pop our union on this yep that can come right out of there sweet all right look here show your camera on here let's get all this out of here this excess glue yeah we don't have no problem in there nice you want to let it all dry out before we put it back together no so it won't then we can't we can yeah well heard it matters yeah all right sweet and that's how you put a drain in folks a sump pump shot pump it's a drain man all right let's get you some gravel underneath you got a little stick or something boss i can shove this rock with shove it around thank you man here's what we got we got two more buckets too we're giving this the old try here so there's a water spigot right there on the well and you can see the perforated sump basin you can see the water going in right there that's why we put gravel around it the gravel lets the water go through and the perforated basin lets it get into the basin and the pump will then kick on all right starting to start to lift up now here we are testing the new sump basin by running water into it but what we're finding is the water has to float up too high to get the float switch to turn on working really well and so remember we couldn't go very deep with the sump basin because we were hitting the footer there and so here in a sec you're going to see where we have to adjust the float switch on the sump pump to get it to work you so that basin probably could have been a little bit deeper but we were hitting concrete yep well even if it's right there yeah i'd say the lower the better go for it all you gotta do is move it now there you go something quality grab it right there with it yeah see what happens now sweet nice oh let's test it okay it's gonna have to work you think that's too low or you think it's gonna work anything that all gets in there it's gonna kick it out is it on right now yeah it is it just doesn't have enough in it yet kick it off okay yeah as long as it doesn't kick on until you've got some water in there we're gold yeah sure okay we got that float customized and we ended up spending a bunch of time filling it up and readjusting it and filling it up and readjusting it where we originally started there with that float being so low it would kick on and then suck itself dry really quickly and so it was just it was cycling too fast so we moved the stop on the float up a little bit higher so that it would fill up more and we got it to work to where we were happy with it working so at the end of i don't know a few minutes of messing around with it and readjusting it got so adjusting that flow a little bit really helps okay yep [Music] okay that's how some basin's supposed to work here's our outfall and this is all going to be incorporated into the fix for this and so you typically wouldn't want to leave this open like this but once springtime hits she's going to take care of this so she was just like just leave it there and we'll we'll hook it into the culvert later so we are i guess about finished with this job that was a custom sump basin
