huge thanks to motion VFX for sponsoring this video today we're going to learn how to roll our own custom animated logo in DaVinci Resolve and fusion and then give it a little bit of spice here's what we're going to be making oh man look at that handsome man so yeah we got a little animated hamster guy and all kinds of fancy little elements and flourishes and lines and stuff oh this looks popping I'm Casey and I help content creators make amazing Motion Graphics and visual effects in fusion and if you're looking to make an awesome animated logo for your channel well this is the video for you let's uh let's dive in so I'm going to show you how I made this step by step first let's start with our Fusion comp I'll just double click to open this up and I'll just hide our page navigation so we have a little more room and if you look at this nodecraft and you're like oh my gosh what do we what is this why is this it's okay it can be a little bit intimidating but we'll walk through this one step at a time starting with this left node we have just a blank background and this just sets the size of our canvas which is going to be 1920x1080 and this is just kind of an approximation of what we want our background to look like this is kind of how I designed it but I actually ended up turning this off later so we'll turn that off in a few minutes but this is just a background that's a four color background and it's kind of orange and yellow just gives it a little bit of variation here and have it transform on this but I didn't actually end up using that either so I'll just take that off and after that we have our little Shadow this is just a purple background node with a mask applied it's just a little ellipse and that goes right here under our buddy next we have our actual logo I'll take a look at this and this came in with these colors but wasn't a big fan of these colors and it's a little bit easier just to color correct this and kind of change the Hue to make them kind of a pink and purple guy then we're transforming him and scaling him down a little bit and then we're splitting this logo up because this is just a PNG that includes the picture of the cartoon hamster as well as the hamboy studio text here and so what I did was make a rectangle mask and so this is a cool little trick if you grab a matte control like this so I'll just take this after the transform and put that into the matte control and put the matte control in our left viewer here I can attach a mask to this matte control and kind of cut things out just like you would if you were to add a mask to the logo itself you can kind of cut it out down the line which is great if you want to isolate just certain elements so if I wanted to isolate just this studio part right here I could make something like a rectangle mask and I could to right click and drag off of that output and then drop it on the Mac control doing that right click thing will give me this little menu so I can select what I want to connect it to without having to remember the colors and I want to connect this to a garbage mat which for the record is kind of this dark gray and what this will do is get rid of anything inside of the Mask so I can either invert the mask or I can invert the garbage mat property in the mat control like this to select what's inside the mask so this way I can isolate things using that matte control and I can kind of just pick and choose a little piece of this logo that I might want to animate separately right so I could take the output of this and merge it over whatever I want so that's pretty much what I did here I did one mask to just isolate the words and one matte control with the mask to just isolate our hamster those are sharing the same rectangle mask just one of them is inverted so I'm selecting inside the mask on the left and outside of the mask on the right each of those runs through a transform which lets me move it individually can move this back and forth both our hamster and our text and each of the is merged on top of our background so this is where we're at so far and we'll get to the rest in a minute so how do we animate this well let's just drag this off and I'll kind of reanimate it here real quick I'm just going to grab another transform node and put this in right here in between our Mac control and our merge and so now I can grab the words by themselves and just move them around and I'll pick my end frame maybe like frame 39 here go over to the center and click this orange diamond to set a keyframe that'll tell this transform to be at 0.5.5 at frame 39 and then here at frame 23 we're just going to take this off screen like that so now this just flies in like that and we can animate this however we want what I decided to do was have this fly in pretty quickly let's just say 0.5 here and then I just go over to the spline panel and we'll just have this kind of Bounce a little bit like that I can select these lower keyframes and hit F on the keyboard let's see how this looks so it kind of comes in and bounces like that right boom boom okay this one's maybe a little bit intense let's make sure this is at one there we go so that's a nice little band ounce quick way to make that bounce is just kind of make your graph look like this in the spline panel and that looks nice so that's pretty much what I did here and I did something kind of similar for the hamster I had him start off screen at frame 10 and then he came down and right there at frame 16 he kind of bounces off of this cheek and bounces up and rotates over and then he kind of settles down so he bounces rotates bounces settles down again I'm making sure to flatten out any tangents where he kind of stops and kind of turns back in the spline panel like this boing now this handsome man is settling down here ready to read his book and after he bounced I animated this Shadow and all I did really was take this ellipse and keyframed the width and height and when he was close to the ground I made it big and when he was farther away I made it a little smaller and kind of just wiggled this as he kind of wiggled to stop and as he goes up I make it smaller and I'm also fading out the level right here that's kind of like the opacity of the mask and so it just kind of Fades in and shuffles with him a little bit as he falls so now we have the main animation it falls down and it's just nice and cartoony and fun but then I thought maybe this just needs one more little touch and I thought what if we animate the character a little bit you know move his hair or his ears or something and then decided how about just a blink I like when a little character just blinks just to let you know he's alive pretty easy to do with a logo like this we have this Frame where all I did was grab a pink background and add a couple of ellipse masks over his eyes and added these kind of purple eyelids just down below the outlines of his eyes and we're just having this merge only appear for like 3 frames here there's no actual animation there we're just turning these layers on for one two frames just like that and that's enough to get a little cartoony blink so all this goes together and and it's a pretty nice little logo animation Boop hamboy so cute so this is looking great in Fusion but in the edit page we can take this to the next level with some additional elements so I'll switch my page navigation back on and head over to the edit page I'll make a new timeline and just drag our logo comp down into the timeline and it plays back looks nice but let's add a little bit of spice here if I go into my effects panel I have quite a few titles and generators from motion VFX and they have just a ton of content that is perfect for enhancing your videos I've used a lot of different presets and templates over the years but it's hard to beat the resolve plugins from motion VFX they have a huge selection of plugins and stock elements designed to save you time and give you the tools to make just what you want for your videos just find a pack you like and use their installer to instantly add it to your effects Library into Venture resolve restart resolve and you're good to go anything you've got from motion VFX will be installed here under titles I also have quite a few effects then you'll have access to Motion Graphics all kinds of add-ons and elements that you can drag onto your timeline to enhance your graphics or you can use some of their titles and just customize the text and colors and logos to make this exactly what you want basically if you get a plugin for motion VFX you get a whole toolbox of elements to spice up your videos and when it's so easy to add things like this then you tend to do it more often and you make better videos that means the quality of everything goes up in no time so let's use some of these elements to enhance our hamboy logo here I'm going to look in the M intro plugin and there's a few little add-ons here that I think could be cool I really like these little grid lines I can throw that on top and just see what that looks like and oh just already UPS it maybe just scale this up a little bit yeah and I think I want these to kind of come up from behind them and so I'll actually just go into our comp here infusion in and I'm going to turn off our background just so he's on a clear background and we'll put a background in on the edit page so let's take the logo comp up here put our add-on behind him that looks cool and there's a whole collection of animated backgrounds such cool stuff there we go about this background too grab this and drag that down here and this is where things get really fun man because it's so easy to just make something that looks awesome like this you can just select it go over into the titles and let's just change the element controls let's instead of having this red let's have it actually match our logo a little bit I'll just pick maybe that pink for this one and maybe on this one I'll pick kind of the purple so now these little lines and stuff that are flying out they match our logo let's change our background to maybe more of a yellow yeah something like that change our grid color to be similar but maybe a little bit darker yeah something like that I could change the width of our grid let's just do 9x16 and we have these kind of big squares and gosh it's looking pretty sick I think maybe I'll take this add-on and here under settings let's just take the opacity down a little bit so it's not quite so intense just push that up to maybe 25 there now we have just a little bit of movement in the background without it being overwhelming I think I want him to splash down here after we have our background in place so maybe like right there so you just push the logo comp down a little bit so now boom here he is oh this looks like I spent so long on it but I didn't let's grab another add-on oh I like this kind of little confetti thing let's grab that take that in there too kind of bursts out from the left which I don't mind that that looks kind of cool but I wonder if it kind of bursts out from behind him let's take this title and just like you would expect we can adjust the scale we can adjust the position so maybe I'll go back to right where that starts just have the position kind of behind him like that so now that just kind of Pops in like that yeah cool so now we have all this stuff happening oh and it looks so good and it's really easy to customize like I actually don't want this transition even though it looks cool I don't want to worry about transitioning my other elements so why don't we just for our background select the background and uncheck out right here so now it won't do that out transition and we'll just trim everything to end at the same time and we could go to one of our video transitions from motion VFX pick one from the same pack this looks pretty neat transition two let's take that and just drag that in on our background and make that transition a little shorter and let's do Transition three actually there we go I like that and let's actually change this color that dark purple color that looks nice and let's just copy this transition I'll just select it right here and if I go to trim mode I can select all of the ends of these clips and I can hit Ctrl V and just paste that transition again and so now which that just transitions all of those things out oh look at that so clean so much fun it's a nice fun playful intro and gosh it would be a lot of work to add all this stuff myself so this is a really cool way to make graphics so we have kind of a nice core animation here that we built our ourselves in fusion and we can combine it with these other elements to make it even nicer in the edit page now it looks like we really really know what we're doing honestly everything that motion VFX makes is really thoughtfully designed it's well organized it looks amazing these guys are excellent we've worked with them quite a bit and we have nothing but great things to say they're even a major sponsor of a resolve con this year and we're so excited to have them on board so if you want to take your graphics up a notch add some spice to your shots or even just tweak the presets and make them your own motion VFX has you covered and they're having a huge sale right now so you can save big on their entire Library there's a link in the description below make sure to check them out so there's our intro looks amazing only took a few minutes super easy and now we can take this intro and render it out and reuse it in any video or we can export the timeline and use it as a starting point for any new edits we make so I hope this inspires you to make your very own animated logo again make sure to check out our friends at motionvfx huge thanks to them for sponsoring this video as well as being a major sponsor of resolve con if you haven't checked out resolvecon make sure to do that at resolvecon.com it's just under a month away and you can come and hang out with us and nerd out about all kinds of cool things about Motion Graphics and visual effects and editing an audio and color grading oh my goodness thanks so much for checking out this video and watching all the way to the end I don't know why I don't know why this is all the way to the end but it is that's how my that's what we do all the way to the end it's like I'm playing a giant piano
