[Music] hi there this is amish from picks and perfect i hope you're having a great day and if not i'm again very sure that you my friend are doing your best please do your best to make it an awesome day please don't let one bad moment ruin your entire day anyway did you hear the news about photoshop discontinuing its 3d features yes it's true unfortunately have a look at this article it says why are photoshop's 3d features being discontinued and the gist of it is is that they want to sell a separate product that's what i feel i might be completely wrong that's what my opinion is they think that photoshop's 3d technology is a little outdated and they're kind of uniformizing if that's a word their 3d technology through adobe substance and other application it's a completely different suite that you have to pay extra for so if 3d features are being discontinued in photoshop what other options we have inside of what we are already paying for instead of having to pay extra well if you are in the all apps plan you do have access to adobe dimension and that's what we're going to use today and that's what we will learn on how to create 3d iced text effect using dimension and photoshop together i'm super excited to share with you the amazing world of adobe dimension and how you can communicate between dimension and photoshop to create a great piece of artwork so without any further ado let's get started back in the mystical and magical world of adobe dimension and speaking of dimensions how many dimensions do you think there are we already know three length breadth and height and einstein said that the fourth dimension is time but i disagree i disagree my friend i think that the fourth dimension is our budget to afford adobe products which keeps on expanding just like the universe anyway when it comes to adobe dimension you cannot create advanced 3d objects for that you might have to use something like blender or maya or any other 3d application of your choice dimension is okay for simple 3d shapes and basic text and also if you want to use adobe stock 3d assets again you know what i want to say let's get started with it don't worry we're going to create something of our own so let's click on create new so this my friend is your 3d space first of all let's drag and drop the background image i'm just going to drag it and drop it into dimension again there's a long way to do it why not use the shorter way there's a difference between the resolution of the document right here and the background image that we just dragged in therefore we need to match the image to match the image make sure that the environment is checked and then click on match image now there's also a scope to match the perspective of the 3d stuff that you're creating to that of the image but right now it's not available because dimension is just not able to detect it so what do we do again first of all just make sure create lights and resize canvas to image size is selected and hit ok have a look the document dimension changes to match with that of the image and there's also a directional light created automatically and what we love here is that have a look at environment light so there's a light created based on this image that's what we wanted now we don't want directional light we want sunlight so let's click on directional light and just press the delete key it takes it away now what life we want we want the sunlight so click on lights and in here there's an option for sun click on it once and the sun is added we're just preparing right now another thing we need to do is to match the perspective of the 3d space with that of the background and for that i have made some modification to the image to just make it easy for a dimension to recognize the perspective so this is what i have done take a look at it this is the original image right so i drew lines along the perspective and just where it met i've made the top area absolutely white i did that to create a fake sensation of this being the horizon and the perspective lines meeting there in the vanishing point this might be helpful for dimension to absolutely catch exactly the perspective of the background image so instead of this now what we'll do is we'll go back and drag and drop the modified image right here into dimension and again we're gonna click on match image now let's click on match image and this time we only want to match camera perspective and have a look this is not grayed out this time dimension detected the right perspective so just have this checked and hit okay and have a look the grids all line up properly and after you have done that you can again bring back your original image so sometimes this might be required sometimes not sometimes you can skip this step absolutely if dimension automatically detects the perspective and it happens in most of the cases this was one rare case and i wanted to show you what modifications you can make to make it easy for dimension to analyze it once the perspective is lined up now we are ready to create our object so let's simply click on models right over there and click on text now here you have a text you can just move it accordingly and if it's not on the ground if it's flying somewhere simply click on this button which is move to ground and it will simply touch the ground have a look the bottom of the p is touching the ground now in here i want to write dance all right it's not touching the ground right now so again click on move to ground and we're going to make this bigger and we can change the font according to our wish so let's change the font to gilroy one of my favorite fonts g-i-l-r-o-y let's select that and i want the bold version of it extra bold let's select that this sounds fun and it's very simple you can simply increase the size and the depth according to your wish i'm just going to keep it right over here and then increase the size to about let's go for 24 and the depth can be a little more and for the depth let's try 10 it might not be too much let's try 14 that looks about right the great part is since the perspective is matched you can move it forever you want and it will still look realistic because the perspective is perfectly aligning all right let's press ctrl or command z or z however you pronounce it to set it back to its previous position now first of all let's control the lighting and the shadows let's start with the overall environment now you can increase the global intensity of light and also you can just change the global rotation that's up to you i'm going to leave it to how it was before just double click on the text to reset it and by the way if you hover over it it's going to tell you what it does you can also control the shadow opacity if you want to if you want to create reflection you can do that here but in this case we are not touching any of these let's go to environment light this is the light created by the environment not the sun this is the kind of light that is reflected to the object let's say there's this object there's the sun of course the light from the sun is touching the object but also the light from the sun is also touching the ground and it's reflecting again and touching the object as well so that is the environment light so for this example i think we want less of environment light and more of sunlight so let's go to sun and we want more intensity here but before that let's control the direction of light so for that you can play with rotation just try to match the angle with that of the subject 150 looks all right and you can also control the height of the sun because when sun is at the very top the shadows fall right at the bottom and during sunset when the height is low we have long shadows so control the height accordingly use the subject's shadow as a reference so we don't want that long of a shadow about 43.7 looks okay and this is an interesting slider the more overcast the sky is the softer the shadow is going to be and by the way this is not the final rendered image if you want to look at the rendered image just click on this and the image will begin to render the more cloudy the scene is the more softer the shadow is going to be so we don't want absolute soft shadows we want less of it so let's set a lower value here let's go with 16. have a look while it renders see if it matches with that of the subject yes it looks about right now let's turn off rendering for the moment the cpu usage just gets too high and here comes the fun part time for us to add the ice material and it's already there in dimension and by the way if you want to play with materials simply click on text and here is the material button so for the side face bevel for different areas of the 3d object you can choose different materials you can also modify these sliders add custom roughness glow metallic properties to just make it your own material for instance let's say i want to play with the face area and here i want to increase the metallic property and i want to decrease the roughness have a look it becomes absolutely metallic and now if you render it look cool isn't it this just again goes on to show the possibilities are limitless by the way if you go to materials you already have a lot of ready-made materials right here and the one that we're going to use is eyes you want to apply the eyes to the entire area of the text so just drag the eyes and drop it to the entire text once you're happy with the position the lighting the materials the shadows everything in the 3d space you are ready to render it to create a final render in a photoshop document just go to the render tab and now you can choose the quality if you want lower quality it will be rendered faster higher quality would be a little slower choose the highest quality possible choose the location and make sure it is in pst format 16 bits per channel is more than enough if you want 32 there's an option for that and click on render now i have already rendered mine and this is what you see when you open the psd file now in here the layers are beautifully stacked first of all you have a background color then you have the subject on top of that you have all of these so you have this 3d rendered image and you also have a regular version so this is the regular version and there's another version with reduced noise now it's up to you what you want to use i just want to use the rendered image and you can turn this off you might need it later now first of all we need to bring the subject forward or simply mask out the subject so with the subject layer selected right here select any of the selection tools smart selection tools the object selection tool the quick selection or the magic wand too which is actually the tragic one too let's click on select subject and photoshop does a pretty good job of selecting the subject i gotta give it to adobe for it now let's come back to rendered image which is our 3d dance and then hold the alt key or the option key and click on the mask button to just remove that area it creates a opposite mask or a negative mask and it looks pretty good doesn't it now there are lots of other things you can do to this and by the way you have all of these additional layers for material selection object selection you also have a depth map right over there if you need it but we don't need it at the moment so let's close all of these layers and turn it off now the very first thing i feel i need to fix is that the shadows are just too dark and we do want dark shadows near the edge but not on the outside just have a look at the subject's shadow it's a little brighter towards the end so put the 3d text in a group and create a mask for the group now you have two masks for the same layer select the gradient tool and create a simple gradient just like this from black to white now this is of course too much so select a mask open up the properties or go to window and then properties inside of the mask properties just decrease the density be a little careful here we don't want a stark difference in this case let's go for about 40. now still it looks okay but then again towards the edge some areas are just too dark so select the mask we can modify it take the brush black as the foreground color and just erase the extras now all in all this looks all right so without the mask with the mask and this my friend is improvement and by the way you can change the density later as well let's decrease it to about 35 it would be a little darker the second thing that we can improve here is that the ice is not looking frosted enough so for that we're going to create another curves adjustment layer so let's open up this group on top of this we're going to create a curves now whatever i do inside of the curves it's also affecting the background image we don't want that to happen you can either create a clipping mask or just select the group and then change the blend mode to normal that way no matter what you do inside the group will stay inside the group and will apply to the things inside the group i hope that makes sense so let's set it to about this valley this all looks right and you want to make the brights the extreme brights a little more brighter so let's take the slider on the right to the left as well that's going to add a little more punch so there you go have a look at it here is the before not frosted enough here is the after that's making all the difference let's decrease the opacity of this one to about 75 it was too much now let's create some shine here so for shine we're going to create another curves adjustment layer and make the extreme brights brighter just like this again we only want it in the extreme bright areas highlight areas double click on the right hand side of the limb and take the slide of the underlying layer from left to right we want to take it away from the shadows hold the alt key or the option key click on it to break it apart and take it all the way apart that looks nice but again we don't want it in all of the areas so select the mask press ctrl or command i to invert the mask take the brush white as the foreground color make sure it is a soft round brush and just start dabbing in the bright areas that's it make sure the opacity and flow are at hundred just keep on painting in these areas have a look at the shine that we're adding similarly you can do it in other places like these there you go my friend take a look here's the before here's the after now let's create some blinding highlights to take it beyond the realms of realism let's create one more curves it's all about curse my man it's the most favorite thing there is in the world in photoshop so let's take it up as well we're going to take it really up and this time let's be more gentle with blendiff double click on the right hand side of the layer hold the alt key or the option key click on the left slide of the underlying layer to break it apart from the very start and take it all the way apart now again select the mask press ctrl or command i and just paint on these areas blinding highlights again if you want to create some light here that is again coming through the ice onto the ground this is a great way to do it this is also a great way to differentiate the object from the wall there you have it take a look here's the before here's the after a lot of areas are standing out because of this now another problem here is that the bottom areas are just matching too much with that of the ground in other words there's no differentiating factor between the bottom edges of the eyes and that of the ground it looks very similar it's not standing out to fix that we're just going to simply brighten those areas up so let's create one more curves adjustment layer we're going to take this one up as well select the mask press ctrl or command i and take a soft round brush and we're just going to create a straight line so dab right here at one edge with white as the foreground color hold the shift key dab on the other edge now have a look it's standing out pretty nicely but we did paint a little extra so we have to erase that now take a hard brush we're going to take the hard round brush and simply erase away the extras again you can just decrease the hardness a little bit let's set it to about 90 take black as the foreground color and simply erase the extras now let's take a look at the before and after here's the before here's the after makes a hell lot of difference now it's standing out so nicely again i would decrease the opacity to about 75 percent now if you do want to add some glow here you can do that you can go back to the mask and this time again take a soft round brush and decrease the flow to about 10 and start painting with white on certain areas to add that glue for example these areas if you wanted to add a little glow you can similarly these areas as well a little glow there we go now it looks nice now it is high time that you go and take a break and again get back to this image because you might see certain things that needs fixing in this case i see that the a is not standing out so to fix that again we can create another curse adjustment layer we can take it up like this select the mask press ctrl or command i simply take the brush actually take a soft round brush with white as the foreground color just dab once right over here make sure first of all the flow and opacity are at hundred dab hold the shift key tab on the other side it creates a straight line like this now we need to erase the extras select a hard round brush and we're just going to do the dabbing thing again with black as the foreground color click hold the shift key and then again click on the other side extras are gone and just completely remove it we would again decrease the opacity of this one to about 65 70 and now everything is standing out and looking nice if you look at the before and after of the effects that we added you would be surprised that photoshop as well does make a night and day difference so let's go to history and first of all let's create a snapshot for this one by clicking on the camera icon and here is the before take a look not matching at all and here is the after makes a world of difference and by the way if you think the ice is too frosted you can always go in here and decrease the opacity of this curves from 75 to a little lower i think for me it looks good at 75. so that's our queer composite with iced 3d text using dimension and photoshop first of all we created the 3d text in dimension by simply bringing in the background matching the perspective with it if the perspective doesn't match do some modification create some lines along the perspective create the horizon and use that to match the perspective and then again bring back the original background image once the perspective is matched just simply create the 3d text make sure the lighting is all right bring in the sun check in the environment make sure that the shadows look same as that of the other objects in the image and then you are ready to apply the material now you can create your own material or just use some ready-made materials that are already available in dimension after you're happy with everything in dimension render it as a psd in a psd you would already have 3d object as a separate layer and the background as a separate layer now from here you can make changes according to the problems you see first of all we needed to bring the subject forward so we masked that area out then i thought the ice is not looking frosted enough so i brightened it and then you can add some highlights and the bottom areas were not standing out so we brightened that up and the a was not standing out so if we brighten that up and that's basically what we did also we brightened up the shadows i hope you enjoyed a different kind of video today and if you did make sure to give us a like and also don't forget to subscribe and not just subscribe ring the bell so that you my friend don't miss any other
