in this video i'm gonna be sharing with you my monthly expenses as a solo traveler in istanbul   in 2021 i've been getting a lot of questions  recently on instagram on how much money do i   need per month to live in istanbul i moved here like five months ago and i believe this is one   of the cheapest cities i've been to basically  i'll be covering about seven expenses that you'll   be seeing on the screen right now so let's get started for our first and most important expense   it is accommodation now for accommodation i can't quite explain it thoroughly because it has so many   aspects to it depends on where the location is depends on how big the apartment is depends if   it's furnished or not of course like each city  there are three classes there is high class mid   class and low class we'll be covering the high and the mid if you want to rent a two bedroom   apartment that is empty not furnished you have to range between 1200 to 3000 liras that also depends   on whether you're renting in a compound or in a regular building because usually compounds   cost more furnished apartment can cost you between 2 000 and 5 000 turkish liras of course that also   depends on the location and how new the furniture is for our second expense it is transportation now   istanbul has one of the easiest most convenient means of transportation to move around you need an   istanbul card that you can use in almost any means like the metro the tram the ferry or the bus your   average trip is going to cost you between three to six liras i'll be making a dedicated video about   the subject that you'll find in the description i average my transportation at about 260 liras per month which is about 10 liras per day discluding sunday our third expense is groceries   now for groceries it depends a lot on where you buy your stuff from in istanbul there's   four very famous supermarkets that are bim sok migros and 101 basically these supermarkets are   the budget friendly markets of istanbul i can't quite get into every detail about groceries so i   decided to show you guys i just left the house and it is pouring snow out here check this out it's snowing it's minus three degrees  here so i would really appreciate it   if you guys would hit that like button and  subscribe if you haven't yet so let's go so while on my way this happened so we gotta go commando let's continue so this won't be long i'm just going to show you a few prices for the main things that you   need around the house this is butter for example i think this is 200 grams for 26 liras well this   is cream cheese it's for almost 10 liras so as you can see here they have two prices first one   is the regular price the second one is the price if you have the migros card i'll show you now   how you can get it this is eggs as you can see you can get 30 eggs 25 for liras this is the cooking oil   you get it for 58 liras there are many types of tea you can get you see here there's 500 grams for   19 liras this is the vinegar 12 liras this is  apple vinegar bottle of coke goes for 5 liras 4.75   we get a small nutella jar for 19.  for 18.5 over here is the milk stand as you can see so this is one liter goes for  seven liras it's tomato sauce you can get the   small one for 4.25 the big one for 7.90 see  this for example i think this is five liters   it goes for six liras you also get 10 liters for 10 liras   just under 10. your average eight packet  tissue paper goes for 30 liras toilet roll   moving on to the vegetable section you see here potatoes go for about three liras onions go for   about one lira and the regular tomatoes go for five liras you can also find toothbrushes here   starting from 13 liras up to forty liras so guys basically the prices you're seeing here are about   20 to 30 percent less than the prices that you'll find in almost any place this is why you should   definitely go to one of these four supermarkets so let's continue gotta get some salep for the cold so guys as you saw we just got our  salep we got our migros card which   allows you to get discounts every time you buy things at migros uh i think the the register for   you some kind of points and at the end you can get discounts based on your points so let's continue number four is phone bills in istanbul there's three network operators that you can buy sim   cards from it is turkcell, turktelekom, and vodafone personally i use turk cell i'm currently paying   about 52 liras for 8 gegabytes of data 1000  minutes of talking and 1000 sms i think of   course there's cheaper and there's more expensive depending on your needs but let's average that at   about 50 liras number five is house bills which are electricity gas and services now of course   electricity and gas depend on your consumption and the season you're in now starting with electricity   in the summer uh usually air conditioners are always on which kind of bumps the bill to about   200 to 400 there so let's average that at 300  in the summer time in the winter it's not going   to be as high as the summer so let's average  that at about 200 in the summer days i used to   average about 80 to 250 liras per month whereas  in the winter you get the really hefty bill with   central heating on for about 16 hours per day it averages between 500 liras and 800 depending on   how big the house is moving on to building  services such as security and taking out the trash   and all that things it averages between 50 to 100 turkish liras depending on how much you've agreed   with the landlord for number six it is restaurants now dining in istanbul is known to be affordable   but now due to the covid pandemic it has become more affordable because many of the shop owners   are making discounts and offers to get more  business because as you know business is down   so an average meal in a restaurant like let's say you get a shawarma with the ayran or with   a soft drink you're going to average between  50 to 30 liras which i think is pretty good   on the other hand if you want to get a hefty meal you got to pay about 50 to 80 liras which i think   compared to european countries is still very good so basically guys this is it this is an average   of what i pay monthly of course it differs for  every person if you found this video useful please   don't forget to hit the like button subscribe if you haven't yet i'll see you in the next video
