austin i just have a i have a couple of things i'd like to make you aware of before we continue with our service today i also want to welcome our online community we've got viewers from ontario canada australia all over the map and so we're glad that you're joining with us today for church well a couple things to make you aware of few things going on in the life of cornerstone first thing i want to let you know about is our harvest party at the end of the month october the 31st it's kind of our alternative to halloween we deck the park out with carnival type games and rides and prizes it's an awesome thing thousands of people from our community come out and join us with their kids and their young students and so um honestly i kind of see this as an outreach to our community because i've heard stories where a lot of people see the lights and hear the music coming out uh going going down up at the park and they're like what's going on up there so they come by check it out and that's how people have come to know jesus because they get connected with cornerstone and then hear the gospel here and so it's an awesome event and because there's so much that goes into making our harvest party happen we would love if you would serve with us there and so there's a many different ways you can serve with games prizes food more information is on our website about getting involved you can also hit up the table in the atrium before you leave get more info there or you can even text the word harvest just text the word harvest to 94090 we'll send information directly to your phone and we thank you in advance for helping us make the harvest party happen at the end of the month i also want to let you know that we have baptisms coming up again october the 20th if you were here this past wednesday we were able to baptize 70 plus people in the courtyard praise the lord for them and so it's always such an exciting time baptisms honestly they never get old seeing people make decisions for christ get baptized we've got apple cider doughnuts the manna from heaven and that fed the israelites in the wilderness wandering we've got those as well so come on out for the october 20th baptism and if you'd like to be baptized all you need to do is go to the class in the chapel that's the room to the uh right by the main entrance that's our west entrance take a right that's the chapel be there at 7 pm and we'll baptize you at 8 after the midweek bible study so mark that on your calendars october the 20th for our next baptism and then finally ladies this is a shout out for you you've got an event coming up october the 12th at 7 p.m here at the church there's going to be worship prayer you're going to hear from two very powerful awesome testimonies about how the lord's been changing lives within the women's ministry and so you don't want to miss that ladies more information is on our website for that again that's october the 12th there's so much more going on in the life of cornerstone i wish i had the time to mention it you can go to our website to find out more or follow us on some on social media just to stay up to date with all that the lord's doing here in the life of cornerstone all right well that is it for me before we continue with our service why don't you go ahead stand welcome those that you've been worshiping with today all right everybody uh good afternoon and so glad to have you with us worshiping today and our online viewers too i have just a couple of quick announcements i'm going to race through because i want to give as much time to this guy that just happened to drop in from new york today and so he's in the back eating my krispy kreme donuts so anyway i got to bring him out before he eats them all um but i wanted to make you aware again it is time to vote in the commonwealth and voting is going on now you can pick up your absentee ballot applications even when you're not absent this is the way they're doing it this year and so in our in our lobby at our kiosk either west or east you can pick up an absentee ballot application fill it out you could actually leave it with us we'll turn it in in a few days you get a ballot an actual voting ballot mailed to your house you can fill that out and vote that way this year you can also go in person november 2nd of course but you can either then take your ballot to the registrar's office mail it in you can actually the way the law has been written now return it here we can return it for you i talked to an election attorney last night at 9 00 pm i think i got him up out of bed said listen i just want to be sure absolutely positive he goes yes this is absolutely positive this is the way it's it's being done this year because of the law that the general assembly passed so it's a little crazy but we're going to take advantage of it why because we want the evangelical vote to count so make your voices known also if you moved if you moved you have to register to vote or if you're new in our area or or to the commonwealth you got to register to vote so we have a registration table out there as well you can register today to vote along these lines okay i'm trying to move through this quickly sorry um but pray vote stand summit we're hosting for family research council this week wednesday night the 6th through all day thursday the 7th and friday the 8th and this is just an opportunity for the church to get engaged in the culture and in politics don't shy away from this this is the way the world is going we have to also be involved and be salt and light in our community and our culture and our world and so we're hosting this here at cornerstone i'm speaking wednesday night my friend jack hibbs is speaking friday night but we also have among these folks that are posted there on the screen in addition we have former congresswoman michelle bachman will be here senator josh hawley representatives mike waltz and vicki hartzler george barna ambassador sam brownback our own mike ferris will also be speaking it's various topics religious liberty end of row that we're praying for getting rid of all this woke-ism addressing it in our culture so anyway there are still some seats available now this was a free event for cornerstone up to a point where you could register now you're going to have to register and pay something but because this is a ticketed event that we're hosting wednesday night church this wednesday night will not be happening like usual you have to have a ticket to get in um but you can watch online or if you forget and show up without a ticket you can watch in an overflow there's still a few seats available so check it out if you're wanting to join us this week for that all right sorry about all this but moving on uh october the 17th and october the 24th two sunday night special services one with charlie kirk one with kurt cameron i've talked about this but i want to add just this a little bit more kurt cameron on the night of the 24th uh the way that he so that it can stay a free event for everybody he funds it through uh private donations because he he travels around the country he brings a staff of people with him he's doing this around the country right now so in order to keep it free he just asked hey if anybody wants to come to a special vip pre-service event with him exclusively you can actually go to his website to americancampfirerevival.com scroll down to where you see it happening at cornerstone and you can actually purchase what's called a vip ticket there's no you know numbered seating in this event but this is a way for donors to in advance have a little time with kirk and then that way you underwrite it so it's a free event for everybody else so if you're interested in doing that you can go to his website and click that on also i may mention that jonathan cahn was going to be with us next week but instead i me i mentioned it's moved to uh sunday november the 21st so he's still coming but yours truly will be back in the pulpit this uh next sunday a week from today and we'll be back with the gospel of luke at least for one week because we got other stuff going on so um i'll be sharing this uh coming sunday a week from today all right enough of all that and now to the guy that dropped in from new york if you want to uh take advantage of the social media there's some information there on eric mataxis so that you can stay apprised of all that he has going on but it's a joy to have him with us and um he was here just four months ago look i i want to make sure i say this you know if you've been here very long my passion for the bible and going straight through the bible uh but then there are some times when uh there are people not a pastor eric's not a pastor but who are very gifted in helping to equip the body of christ and he's one of these kind of people who has uh written some great things to help equip you and his latest book is called is atheism dead uh and he's gonna be talking about this today it's it's a wonderful teaching to help equip you and the book gives even more detail than he can give in like 35 minutes so he's going to be in the atrium afterwards they're having a pre-sale edition he gave me this as a pre-published copy so i get the privilege of having this one but it won't be released till october the 19th you can order it in advance today in the atrium uh there's other books of his out there in the atrium visit it afterwards but for those of you who don't know he's a number one times new york bestseller he's written many best-selling books fish out of water martin luther if you can keep it bon offer amazing grace miracles he's written also 30 children's books his books have been translated into 25 different languages he's a cultural commentator on cnn and fox news and msnbc and uh he's the host of the eric mataxa show which is nationally syndicated on more than 300 outlets nationwide it's also on tv he lives in his he lives with his wife in new york along with his daughter and it's a privilege to have him with us today again would you welcome our good friend eric mataxis [Music] wow wow hey this is impressive uh actually it's totally unimpressive do you understand there were two services before this one what kind of people would drag themselves to church at this hour are you are you at least a little bit ashamed come on come on jesus would get up before the sun and that's biblical i don't know what you think you're doing here but i wasn't even going to preach at this service i was like you know what i'm going to leave it all in the field in the first two services i said no there are some people that you know they've got behavioral issues and they just kind of come in around noon and you know god has grace for those people i said i don't know i don't know but he talked me into it he's a good guy do you know gary huh this church [Applause] honestly i am honored deeply honored to be allowed to be in this pulpit and no i'm not going to give you exegesis uh from scripture uh actually i'm going to talk out of the book of tobit in the apocrypha is that cool that was a joke look they got nervous look ha gotcha i got you i didn't do that to the other services i'm watching you people okay um it is an honor to be here you guys are standing firm we're living at a time when god needs us to be awake to the time in which we live to stand firm to be bold to be strong i believe we're going through the madness that we're going through at present because the lord's allowing it to wake up those that are not yet awake to wake up people to understand that he's calling us to fight for his purposes in this generation and i believe he has his hand on the country i know that but um he allows us to go through this he's allowing us to go through this you all know that we're living in crazy times is anybody here confused about that if you don't think this is madness you're probably mostly mad yourself right and i want you to understand that this is insanity anybody who's like you know with a straight face gonna tell you everything we knew up until like five minutes ago is wrong and now we know that no matter what you think or do you're racist i'm sorry it's just it's a new fact okay just accept it and roosters can now lay eggs we all know that right all right i don't care if you've never seen one that's just because you're bigoted uh you need to open your eyes okay some of these roosters don't identify as roosters and you need to respect that all right think about it no we we understand like most people in america understand like yeah this is crazy but we're so polite in america that we kind of go along with it right we kind of go like yeah okay yeah whatever like yeah i don't wanna i don't wanna hurt your feelings but i think we need to remind ourselves this is madness that for a nation like this the greatest nation literally in the history of the world we don't say that because we're you know uh crazy white nationalists i mean factually speaking there's never been a nation as free and it's prosperous and that's been such a blessing to the rest of the world now you don't even need you don't need to be an american to understand that we're just talking history and facts right for a nation like this to swing toward marxism toward cultural marxism is only possible if people have really forgotten what freedom is and have forgotten the basics we need to remind ourselves if we don't know we need to learn those things i spoke about my book if you can keep it i maybe the last time i was here i can't even remember if i haven't i can speak about it another time but i mean these are things we need to know but the the short version since i want to talk about science and biblical archaeology today is that things have gone crazy and when the enemy comes in like a flood we know what the scripture says it's in isaiah i didn't know that this morning even your bible-based pastor gary hamrick wasn't sure if it was in the old new testament so i was like wow that's incredible because we both thought it sounds exactly like something paul is saying right but then we realize no it's it's in isaiah but it's a famous scripture it says when the enemy comes in like a flood the spirit of the lord will raise up a standard against him if it says it in the scripture you can take it to the bank it's not a nice idea it is true when the enemy the enemy has come in like a flood we all know it okay and i'm not talking about you know unvaccinated people coming across the southern border i'm not talking about that i'm talking about spiritually madness has come when the enemy comes in like a flood the lord raises up a standard against it now a standard a lot of people don't know this we don't mean a standard like i have i have moral standards no a standard is a battle flag the lord will raise up a stand when the enemy comes in like a flood the lord will spirit lord raise up a standard against him a battle flag a rallying flag that we say we're going to battle follow that flag don't let that flag touch the ground that's our battle flag the spirit of the lord raises up a standard in the midst of the madness and i think that is happening a lot of people in the church are waking up in a way that never would have happened unless things got this bad so the lord i mean another scripture my favorite one of my favorites all things work together for good for those that love the lord and are called according to his purpose do you love the lord and are you called according to his purpose if you don't get out uh this is not a welcoming church okay but if you do love the lord and call upon his purpose the scripture promises you this is the scripture the word of god that all things work together for good all things all things even the current madness get that that's what the scripture says all things work together for good so the lord allows these things he raises a standard in the midst of the battle and he says okay saints it's time to go to war mostly we go to war on our knees we pray i mean you believe in spiritual warfare do you believe in warring on your knees in prayer or do you just say lord take away my stomach ache like we know like there's more to prayer than that right we are deputized by jesus in his name to to move things in the heavens and on the earth he made us in his image for that we're living in a time like that where we have the honor the privilege of of standing firm of battling on our knees in prayer of believing what the word says and then also of acting out in the culture of joining school boards and fighting before we thought everything's fine now we know no we need to be out there in it and we need to be vocal and bold well part of the reason i'm speaking this morning has to do with i think part of the lord's raising up a standard when the enemy comes in uh it could be a lot of things but what i've discovered just over the last few years is some scientific evidence for god that is so overwhelming that you always think like why would the lord allow this to come out now there's some biblical archaeology that has come out recently that it's just astonishing and i'll touch on it and you think why did that come out now i really think sometimes the lord reserves things and that when things get really bad he does these things and actually the thesis of my book the title is is atheism dead and some of you get the reference right the time magazine had an article in 1966 famous cover article you didn't need to have read it at the time it's like one of those cultural touchstones it said is god dead and the implication it was funeral looking it was just sort of a black cover is god dead the implication is yes the implication is science in 1966 we now know that science has pushed out god the more we learn from science the less we have need of god and so let's face facts right the greatest thinkers in the 20th century some of them sartre camus they came to the bleak conclusion that we're alone in the universe there is no god and we need to face facts we need to be rational we know that faith and reason are at odds we've always known that and so here we are right well first of all none of that's true but that's where the culture was in 1966 and the cultural mandarins who decide what goes on time magazine and what we believe and everything they all kind of said that's kind of where we are and i see that was kind of the high water mark of believing god is dead 1966 but it's sort of hung on in the decades we've all been alive this idea that science has somehow defeated faith and that faith is on its way out that idea caught on uh and so when evidence would come up for god or anything most people would sort of bat it away they would say well that's not worth reporting on because we already know that there's no god or that god's dead or we've all agreed that that's probably the case so we're not going to look at that but the great irony and the reason i wrote my book is atheism dead is that since about 1966 evidence has been coming out slowly and steadily that we haven't really been hearing much about and it is pointing dramatically toward the existence of god i say dramatically i would almost say overwhelmingly it is overwhelming it's unquestionably overwhelming evidence has come out over the decades but the problem is the way culture works the way information works everything can be true or false whatever but the question is do people know you know if somebody discovers something the question is do you know has that information gotten out and a lot of the information that we've had coming out from the world of science biblical archaeology whatever it is because of this narrative that we bought into i mean it goes way before 1966 but in 1966 with the time magazine article is god dead it sort of reached this high water mark as i said and since then we we really don't report so much the ev we kind of think these are outliers if we discover you know uh the fossil of a serpent with a voice box that's i don't think that's going to happen but the point is no matter what we find people are going to be like ah you know whatever we can find stuff but we we've already decided well i'm here to tell you that since about 1966 this evidence has come in so steadily that in just the last few years i have thought i think it's time for a reckoning with the information that has come in we've been ignoring it or whatever if you sort of put it together it is not less than astonishing whether you're a believer or a non-believer it's astonishing and people have written certain books and things it's not like it's non-existent but most of us are simply unaware the evidence from science is overwhelmingly pointing to the existence of a creator god it's so overwhelming i would say it's actually open and shut to the point where you can say well i'm an agnostic i hate the bible i don't like christians you could say whatever you want but to say there is no god science has made that effectively impossible if you're familiar with the evidence but most people who don't want to believe in a god they don't really want to look at that evidence and i think it's our job as the church to say well you don't have to look at the evidence but you'd be foolish not to because it's evidence it's science the evidence from science is overwhelming the evidence from biblical archaeology is overwhelming and i'll talk about that as well but then the evidence from history we've had enough time to look at atheism and to look at what do atheist regimes end up looking like do they look like america where people are free and where we say racism is bad we abolished slavery we recognize the dignity of marginalized people you don't have to be in the majority everybody is made in god's image do atheist regimes do that or do they repress people and murder people more brutally than we want to even discuss or think about on a sunday morning well the evidence is in folks the evidence is in the evidence is in from atheists themselves people who have said i'm an atheist let's look at their lives we have enough time now to look at these different lives say what what happens with that philosophy there is no god uh let's let's talk about that so there's tons of evidence that's come in and i got this the idea to write this book right at the beginning of uh kovid uh i was in our apartment in manhattan and i somehow it came to me i thought you know i've met two people from two realms one from science one from uh archaeology both of them have given me pieces of information that are overwhelming and i said maybe somebody needs to write about this because nobody knows about it so one of them the science part i met a guy named james tour i give two chapters on the book in the book to him because nobody knows what he knows and when i heard about it i thought this is crazy stuff the world needs to know whether you're believer non-believer it doesn't matter this guy's probably the top nanoscientist on planet earth that's pretty good right um you said this is the sleepy crowd is that what you said let me just reiterate shame on you this guy is literally probably the greatest nano scientist on planet earth now he is an on fire insane on fire born again believer raised jewish in long island not far from where i grew up came to faith he's an amazing man but his as a scientist it doesn't really get better than this guy he creates molecules in the lab i'll just say this to freak you out since i have like three minutes more than in the last service i'll tell you this if you want to talk about what science can do this guy creates molecules in the lab molecules can you imagine how small they are i will tell you he's able to manipulate molecules create molecules that are effectively extremely tiny cars now what i mean is a little chassis two wheels that work uh and a kind of motor i mean i'm not going to go into this you can read it's in my book you can read about it and by the way i don't care that much if you read the book as long as you buy a copy okay you know what i'm saying all right i gotta eat okay like everybody else i've had it so but i mean i give the details in the book and then you can follow the footnotes if you want to know more but he has created these molecules this is not several molecules one molecule that's a car that can roll along a surface this sounds insane but this is what he does and he didn't do this five minutes ago this is like 2006 he was doing this okay he wrote an article about it one of the most accessed articles in the scientific world insane okay but if you want to know how small these cars are that he created my friend jim tour in the lab 50 000 of them parked side by side would be about the width of a human hair 000 is this too much for you he knows more about the nano level of stuff than anybody the reason i tell you this is that he said to me as a man who creates molecules in the lab at a level that nobody seems to be doing he is uniquely qualified to say that the idea that that happened randomly four billion years ago in the prebiotic soup covering the earth like there's literally zero chance that that happened but if you ask people today hey how did how did life come into being i don't mean did life evolve or did was god i mean the first life if you ask a scientist an atheist scientist an agnostic scientist how did life come into being on planet earth 4 billion years ago the simplest life single cells the simplest life the most primitive life science says it came into being four billion years ago okay you're a scientist how did that happen now if any of you has ever looked at a cell or studied a single cell they are unbelievably complex they are insanely complex so what does scientists say about this well since 1952 they've been saying oh we did an experimental lab university of chicago we ran some electricity you know simulate lightning through some of this prebiotic soup that we think was on the earth four billion years ago there's no life and shazam we got amino acids well if you know about chemistry you'd say yeah so well they were so excited about creating amino acids that they said well that's the first step it's obvious that's the first step and from amino acids you get this and this and this and this and bob's your uncle before you know it you've got cells this is what they said i mean i remember in the 70s in like 8th grade our biology teacher telling us about this experiment so in the mid 70s looking back 20 years they said well that yeah that's that's we solved the problem life comes into being without god we know it right now understand if it's 1952 53 and you're really ignorant you know nothing you could sort of assume like that's the first step and we're going to figure out the rest what james tour is here to say is that as a man who understands that world better than anybody maybe probably the one thing we've learned in seven decades since that experiment is that we know absolutely nothing about how life came into being in 1952 we were dumb enough to not know what we know today and we could assume well that's the first step and we'll figure out the next step in the next step another day as the decades have passed we have discovered nothing we have not moved the argument a millimeter from that point in seven decades of trying with billions of dollars haven't moved it the tiniest bit in fact in a way we've moved backwards because he says it's kind of like you're shooting at a target you're getting better and better eventually you're going to hit it he says yeah here's the problem while you're practicing the target has taken off to the other side of the known universe you're never going to hit the target the more you know that the more you understand we can't do this but in 1952 he thought maybe maybe maybe he says it's about time we you know we called it in it's over let's see what do we have and he says the folks working on this are totally clueless totally for one thing we now know that a single cell is so complex dna was a few years after this experiment they discovered dna the coding and everything forget it the idea that this happened randomly is lunacy total lunacy but nobody has really announced this in seven decades we keep acting like well we're just around the corner we'll get it we'll get it well jim tour is here to say time's up we don't got it who's going to be the one to tell us that we need to stop funding for this nonsense it's like you know you're you're you're climbing a ladder and you figure out it's leaning up against the wrong building who's going to tell the guy almost at the top you've been wasting your time that's one thing that i write about in the book and obviously with the details but most people if somebody says how did life come into being you'd say well i what does science say what i maybe in junior high i don't we don't know well the reason you don't know is because we never figured it out we kind of pretended like we figured it out and we said we'll figure it out tomorrow we never figured it out so this is one of the most astonishing things that science if you go the greatest scientist in the world and ask them how did this happen they don't know and jim tour knows they don't know and he wants us to know they don't know so what's the logical conclusion if you find something really complex like a cell that it just emerged randomly the more you know about the cell the more you know about everything the more you know that didn't happen it seems obvious that somebody designed it and created it i mean a fool would say that even if you don't want to believe in god what would you say if you find this complex thing so that to me meeting jim torren and hearing all of this i thought to myself none of us believers know about this we need to know that the latest scientist says if you have to figure out what happened you'd have to guess probably the god thing is the most logical argument in 70 years we've been told it can't be that it can't be that well it's time we realize yes it's almost obvious to everybody that it's that even if you don't like it another argument is the fine-tuned universe some of you know about that right the more science learns about the universe the more we learn that every part of the universe every part of earth every part of the entire universe is designed by god so perfectly calibrated so perfectly that if it was just the tiniest hint different the whole universe would not exist life would not exist now this is science this is not christian theology this is science in the last decade since roughly the 60s has come out with more and more information and it's startling to scientists it's disturbing when you think well that doesn't look very random it almost looks designed but it can't be well it it looks designed for a very simple reason you know what that reason is it's designed but the creepy thing is scientists were comfortable saying science and faith are at odds the more we learn the more it becomes obvious precisely the opposite has been happening over the decades the more we learn about how the universe came into being 13.8 billion years ago in the big bang the more the more astonished atheists are they say this doesn't make sense the four fundamental laws uh sorry the four fundamental uh the the the forces the electromagnetic force uh the weak nuclear force the strong nuclear force the gravitational force these four fundamental forces that all physicists talk about they say those forces were calibrated perfectly exactly what they are today perfectly a millionth of a second after the big bang like set in cement instantly if any four of them any one of the four had been just a hair different there's no universe forget life forget earth there's no universe as we know it there's no planets there's no there's nothing this has troubled people as you can imagine because we didn't used to know this stuff but as science has discovered more we've become more clear that if any one of those four fundamental forces were a hair different there is no universe the way we know it there's no possibility of life we've discovered things like jupiter which is a monster-sized planet if if that didn't exist and if you ever look in the night sky to find jupiter if you find it it's like a pinprick it's so tiny it's so far we now know from science that if it weren't there it has huge gravitational force because it's so big it pulls away asteroids and meteors and comets because of its gravitational pull we now know from science that if that weren't happening maybe a thousand times more of those objects would hit earth and life would have never emerged on earth there's no way we could be here i mean the size of the earth did you know that if the earth were tiny bit bigger tiny bit smaller there's no life in the book i explain why but you haven't heard this in school even young people you're not learning these in school we are learning these things from science this is not what christians say it's just that christians notice this and they go well that's interesting how come we're not learning this in school maybe now i know why we're not learning this in school because the implications are creepy if you don't like the god hypothesis it goes on and on and on christopher hitchens said the number one argument on the god side that's the most powerful is this fine-tuned argument so in the first part of the book i talk a lot about the fine-tuned argument their stuff is just mind-blowing i don't have time but it's just crazy when you learn it and then it's crazy when you learn nobody talks about this nobody knows about this this is science this is not what we want to believe this is what science teaches so the evidence is overwhelming on the biblical archaeology side i met a guy in albuquerque some of you know skip heisig's church i was speaking there and on the saturday before i spoke he says oh you need to meet an archaeologist friend he lives around here his name's dr stephen collins would you like to meet him sure skip says yeah he discovered biblical sodom i said what did you say he discovered biblical sodom like like a real place what are you talking about he says yeah yeah go talk to him well it turns out that in 1996 this archaeologist was doing a tour of the holy land with a bus and he was about to tell them at the southern part of the dead sea oh yeah this is where they say sodom and gomorrah is but we don't know it might be under the dead sea or might whatever and he knew the arguments against it and it kind of troubled him like i don't want to tell my people this it seems speculative and then he reads genesis in his hotel room to read the account in genesis and for the first time he sees clearly that what genesis says about the location of sodom and gomorrah is super clear that it is north of the dead sea not at the bottom of the dead sea north of dead sea on what's called the kikkar plain around the jordan river an incredibly fertile plain there were the the cities of the plain that's where it happened if it happened that's what the scripture says and he believes in the scripture so he knows we haven't even looked there so he begins to look on the jordan side of the jordan river which you couldn't do for 30 years because of the military tension with israel so suddenly he's free he looks he finds what looks like the place it might be and it is what's called a a tell a tell is basically a city on top of a city on top of a city over thousands of years of civilization it goes up and up and up and up and and it's this mound and this one hadn't be hadn't been excavated so he he looks at it it's it's the biggest one for miles and miles around uh if you read in the scripture sodom was a huge city monstrous city so he begins to excavate and when he gets down to the level of 1700 bc which is when theoretically there's uh this happened they find sure enough you can call it pay dirt they hit pay dirt what do they hit they hit a level of soot and burn things burned to soot five feet deep on average across this entire city and beyond and no one's ever seen anything like it and they know the scientists not christians the scientists who examine this they say there's only one thing that could have done this it could not be an earthquake it could not be a volcano it could not be any of these other things it could only be one thing that did this and they call it a cosmic air burst event what does that mean um it means a meteor or something came into our atmosphere and exploded and incinerated this place now i literally have a i mean there's two chapters in the book about it but there's an article a small article i wrote that's coming out of newsweek tomorrow online where i get into this and it is an amazing thing they discovered this five foot layer of soot exactly where it should be 1700 bc right within the soot they find tiny bits of charred human bones tiny bits of melted brick melted brick how hot would a brick have to get before it melts they find tiny bits of pottery and it's all churned together they called it the cuisinart effect because no one had ever seen anything like this churned with no rhyme or reason and so the experts said there's only one explanation it's a cosmic airburst event a meteor that came now we know that in 1908 in tunguska siberia a meteor about 180 feet in diameter so tiny compared to the earth right tiny tiny enters the atmosphere 35 000 miles an hour explodes five miles above the surface of this remote area of siberia and instantly flattens 80 million trees they say that the explosion was the equivalent of 1 000 hiroshima bombs can you imagine one hiroshima bomb what it did it vaporized the city this is the equivalent is what scientists say what happened in 1908 they say 1 000 at least 1 000 hiroshima bombs explosion it disturbed the atmosphere so dramatically that you could read newspapers at midnight in london for three days have you ever read a newspaper in london they're in english so it's not that tough but doing it doing it at midnight the atmosphere was so messed up that there was this phosphorescence all kinds of stuff happen now we know that happened in 1908. so the scientists who looked at this spot said the only thing that could have happened is the exact same thing except a little bigger well now dr collins as they first uncovered this soot layer he pulls up a piece of pottery now he's a ceramic typologist he knows this stuff cold he finds a piece he says this is the shoulder part of a jar from 1700 bc he knows it instantly and he flips it over and it has a greenish glassy glaze on it he says well the technology for this didn't come into existence until 24 centuries later what's it doing on a jar from 1700 bc what happened well they take it to the lab in the lab says this was exposed to something like 4 000 degrees fahrenheit for about 25 seconds that's the only way this could happen because that glaze is the pottery itself melted everything the scientists looked at told them this is exactly what happened and how did he come to this place by reading genesis and saying if there's a place called sodom i know there is if there's a place called saddam that we can find it would have to be around here he looks around here he finds the place he digs and he finds all of this and i'm just giving you the surface of what we're talking about but it is astonishing weirder to me is that at the 1700 bc level right uh you have this destruction layer civilization existed in that spot for more than 2 000 years before that can you imagine a city a huge city 4000 bc 3000 bc 2000 bc 1700 bc destruction now right after 1700 bc there are seven centuries of nothing anybody who understands that part of the world understands if something bad happens people pretty much settle there like instantly whether it's five years or fifty years or a hundred years it's like the premier real estate for you know far far far it's it's like this is the place people have settled the water supply everything the military strategic uh uh advantage this is the place where you would want to live for seven centuries after this event no human civilization existed there why would that be what nightmare happened in this place that it seemed haunted and cursed so that people wouldn't dare climb those heights for fear because they knew god had judged this place so dramatically it was it was a watchword it was one of those places that people shuddered so all this evidence adds up and and my friend now uh stephen collins in fact i interviewed him this week on my radio and if i didn't already tell you please go to my website it's just my name ericmataxis.com uh not only can you pre-order the book which wouldn't kill you to do that not only can you pre-order the book but you can sign up for my newsletter because when i interview these people i want you to know about it okay i interview this man okay and it was on my radio this week and we filmed the whole thing whatever and you can get it you just sign up for my newsletter but the point is that this guy wrote his book on this in like 2012. that's nine years ago but almost nobody here knows anything about this so my thesis holds for archaeology too when this evidence comes up that says it's pretty spooky isn't it that the bible in genesis leads him to the spot they dig they find it scientists say yes that's exactly what happened it sure would lead you to think that the bible is not a collection of folk tales how is this possible now that's one example but that just happened even more recently and this gets super crazy and i'm not going to go into it because it's too crazy but the details are in the book you can judge for yourself they found in nazareth a first century home on top of it is build a church on top of that church is build another church why would you build a church in 350 a.d and another church in uh 600 a.d on top of that church in nazareth well there's only one reason they did that kind of stuff to mark a sacred spot the home of joseph mary and jesus now why don't we know about it because in the 8th century a.d the muslims took over that part of the world and destroyed these sites and it wasn't for 12 centuries after it was destroyed that in 1880 some french nuns decided we're going to build a convent in nazareth and as they were digging to build their convent they found the ruins of a church what's this and another church what's this a hundred and fifteen years passed after then until a few years ago a british archaeologist decides to dig there and he finds a huge church and another church and beneath those churches protected a first century home in nazareth now again i'm not going to give you the details now because i'm just about out of time but this was not published in a book until 12 months ago i'm like looking on my watch like it happened 12 months ago the book came out have you heard about this no could there be bigger news i mean this is like finding you know archaeological evidence of santa's workshop at the north pole like everybody knows that's not possible so if you found it you'd be a little freaked out you'd report it we're living in a culture that has looked the other way since that magazine said is god dead we've kind of moved on we don't look at this stuff it's time we looked at it it is why i wrote this book i said the church needs to be armed with the science and the archaeology to say like look you don't need to believe what i believe but i dare you to look at this evidence and tell me what you think the science is overwhelming it's so overwhelming that that one of the most famous atheists of the 20th century anthony flew about 10 years ago he said even though i've written the textbooks on atheism i believe the universe was created by a god now he doesn't believe in jesus but but he threw away atheism because the fact he was he was honest enough to say the facts the fine-tuned universe all these things leading me to believe there was a designer a creator intelligent designer it made a lot of people very upset but he didn't care he was one of those rare people who says i don't care wherever the truth leads that's all i care about but even more astonishing albert camus and jean-paul sartre french existentialists i mean these were the men in the middle of the 20th century preaching the idea of a world without god that's what leads ultimately to this time magazine article that we have discovered that we're alone in the universe that's where all the science points to and they philosophically said we need to figure out how do we live in a world without god how do we create ethics to tell you that murder is wrong uh that anything is wrong or anything is good or bad how do we do that without god well these two french existentialist geniuses who believe there is no god tried to work out a system now we all know you can't that without god life is meaningless utterly and they over the decades they they wrestled and they couldn't get anywhere but what nobody knows and i know that no one in this room knows this unless you were here for the previous services but this is astonishing news what i'm about to tell you and it's always more astonishing to me the astonishing news is astonishing and then the fact that no one knows this is even more astonishing to me but the two famous atheists probably the most famous of the 20th century both of them albert camus in 1960 and jean-paul sartre around 1980 both of them who struggled earnestly with atheism not like the fake new atheists who are happy there's no god no these men wrestled with this bleak idea how do we exist in a world without god they wrestled and wrestled in 1960 camus in a 1980s jean-paul's art shortly before their deaths came to christian faith nobody nobody knows this these are huge names if you went to college you probably read one of their very depressing books nausea no exit shoot me now these are depressing books but these men wrestle they weren't giddy over the idea of a world without god now there's nobody look over my shoulder while i sleep with my grad student because a lot of people in their sloppy way they're just looking for excuses to do what they like they're not being intellectually honest if you're intellectually honest atheism is bleak and disturbing people like dylan thomas the poet woody allen uh ingmar bergman they struggle with this they're not happy about this idea they feel like well that's just the way it is but they're not happy about it if you're happy about it you're not being intellectually honest the two men who were the most intellectually honest about this camus and sartre came through the other side to faith now what's more amazing that or the fact that nobody knows that the details are in my book i couldn't believe it when i discovered i mean it takes me time sometimes to process things and i think am i making this up am i what is going on here now what i call the founding myth of atheism which obviously i i deal with in the course of the book but it's this idea that science is at odds with faith and that galileo was this brave scientist you know working against the church that is a lie galileo was a profound believer in jesus and in the bible and many people who opposed him were not in the church they were in the university and the university people kind of convince the church people to go it's a it's a story that's more complicated than we have time for but the point is this idea that it was just like this brave free-thinking scientist galileo versus the church total nonsense but we have to invent these myths and we carry them through the centuries and now we know oh by the way science is not only at odds not at odds with faith but but science seems to be pointing to god number one and then we find out that it is atheism that is actually incompatible with science who's talking about that now i i know people like john lennox and others have talked about it but in the culture you don't hear about this stuff and it's important that we understand that even galileo was saying this is to me what's interesting whenever you have a paradigm shift i mean when you tell the secular elites who have ruled the world for the last 150 years hey by the way yeah you're wrong god exists uh by the way science which you thought was your ally is your enemy it is pointing to god uh on the level of how life emerged from non-life on the level of the fine-tuned universe on the level of what the big bang says about science in all these things the deeper we look the more science we get the more it's pointing to god that's bad news for some people so they brush it away they don't want to see it they don't want to hear it they don't want to read those chapters it's disturbing why why it's just going to make you unpopular with your colleagues like yesterday when i took my first dose of ivermectin don't tell anybody shh quiet you don't want to you know hey i don't want any trouble by the way i hope that uh that doesn't leave this room thank you um but nobody wants to be unpopular like i don't want to don't talk to me about that stuff but the elections i don't don't talk about it i just want to i just want to be happy leave me alone well i'm here to tell you that galileo when he discovers that the earth is not the center of the solar system that it's the sun there were plenty people then just like there are plenty of people today say look we all know the earth is the center of the universe we don't want to hear your evidence galileo shut up and he says well look just just literally just look through my telescope and you'll see for yourself many of his educated colleagues in the universities refused to look through the telescope think about that it's no different than people today who refuse to look at the evidence whether about the virus or whether about the election or whether whatever you want to talk about all you're saying is look i i have no uh no dog in the fight i just want to know what's true that's all i want and whatever it is it is but this is some evidence look at the evidence and people say damn your evidence and by the way shut up don't talk about that don't bring that up you'll get cancelled well i was canceled off of youtube for talking about this stuff and i'm not here to cause trouble i just thought i'm in america we're free we have to exercise the freedom we have to speak the truth and by the way i'm a christian i have this kooky idea that jesus defeated death killed death why why should i be afraid of anything he defeated death he commands me to live in that freedom he commands me to live in that freedom to walk in that freedom he died so that i could walk in this freedom so that we could walk in this freedom so that we could speak the truth so the idea that there are people saying i don't want to look through the telescope i don't want to know well that's on you because the telescope is there my book is there innumerable other books are there if you want to put your head in the sand that's on you but don't pretend you have truth on your side and don't tell me to shut up about what i now know is true folks we are seeing a paradigm shift just as people couldn't handle that aristotle got that wrong because it was ultimately an uh an argument with aristotle which is actually very funny but they said you know aristotle is like he's amazing he's everything and he said the earth is at the center and galileo says well look i'm really a big aristotle fan i really i love especially his early work i love it but he's wrong look through the telescope there were people that said we can't handle it don't mess with our minds we just want to go with what we know thus far and he says yes but we have new information no we don't want to know we don't look the telescope today folks there are tons of people out there on all these things i've mentioned and especially on the science the existence of god they they don't want to look there it makes them uncomfortable i'm here to say that we in the church had better look there because the lord is doing a new thing as it says in scripture he's doing a new thing there's a great paradigm shift science and knowledge have shifted so that at a time when everything looks bleak and chaotic and difficult he is raising up a battle standard and he is allowing scientific evidence and archaeological evidence and other things to emerge i don't know why he did it now i don't know why he allowed me to find out that camus and sartre came to faith and nobody knows this and i get to tell the world i don't know how that happened but the lord decides these things and he does it for us he does it in part to embolden us we're the church he wants to arm us with truth so that when you walk in faith you don't say well who knows i think i hope it's true folks not only is it true but he is giving us more and more and more overwhelming evidence now i don't know why he allows us to live in these outrageously exciting times because he has chosen us to live now and he's giving this information to embolden us and to strengthen us as we go through the fight but also so that we can tell others who don't know what they believe they don't know what they want to believe and we can be appointed by god to open their eyes to are you interested in science this is what science is saying did you know that he needs us as the church to stand to be bold he's called us to this time and i want to say to you folks don't ever think oh i wish things were different the lord says all things work together for good for those that love the lord and are called acronis purpose all of this chaos all of these bad things trust the lord if you love him and are called according his purpose he will use all these things and is using all these things to work all things together for good for us we need to know it don't hope that's true know that it's true because it is god bless you thank you [Applause] [Music] [Applause] all right folks good stuff eric will be at the book table in the atrium so you can feel free to visit him there let's pray lord thank you for your grace thank you for your goodness help lord we pray to equip us that we might be ready and able to give an answer to those who ask us lord that we would engage our culture and that we would be equipped in our faith to be able to know what to say and how to say it from you and we give you praise and glory and honor in jesus name and everybody said amen god bless you all have a great day [Applause] [Music] do [Music] in the face of terror in the midst of fear i will not be shaken i [Music] i know [Music] i will broken [Music] is [Music] is [Music] [Music] my days [Music] i will not be afraid [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] you [Music] [Music] um [Music] breathe on me hold me [Music] my eyes to see [Music] your beauty calls [Music] let it overflow [Music] breathe on me [Music] there's so much more [Music] it's jesus [Music] me deep for me [Music] let it overflow [Music] [Music]
