you're moving that you're ready to move he says that you search the earth looking for a heart that's ready for a heart that's yours doesn't say you search the earth and look for a heart that's perfect or that has it all together or is where they think they need to be you say that's yours so we just come to you this morning and we just say that we are yours [Music] and we're ready to meet with you we know that you desire to be with us even more than we desire to meet with you [Music] we know that we are the apple of your eye we were the joy set before you on the cross so we just laid down any religious performance this morning that says i have to strive to be in your presence we're already there we're already with you we're already yours so we thank you jesus we thank you father you're so some of you in this room that may have difficulty seeing singing i'm seen unknown i'm loved by the father maybe it hasn't felt that way maybe he hasn't shown up in certain ways that you've asked him to maybe it feels like it's just been really distant and you haven't felt his presence in a long time maybe you've been doing things where you're like i don't think anyone could love me when i'm doing this [Music] or maybe you've felt so alone that you don't really feel known [Music] but i'm just feeling a heaviness on my heart a weightiness that the father loves all of us he loves you he sees you he knows you he knows you from beginning to the end he knows your story before you were even created and seen in the world he already knew you he had already written the pages of your life and he was a god of hope he is a god of love he is a god of kindness and it doesn't really matter what you do or say or how you mess up or how good of a christian you are he sees you he knows you he loves you so father we ask that you would break away any lies that are just weighing heavy on our minds in our hearts this morning any lies that have told us that we're not worthy that we haven't achieved enough that we haven't performed well enough for you lord because you're not that kind of a dad [Music] that's the beautiful thing about you you're you're the model father lord there's no conditions and there's no strings we don't have to force our way into your love or into your arms lord your arms are always wide open for us god [Music] so we step forward into your arms this morning even if it feels like we're a mess even if it feels like we're unclean and we can't we shouldn't [Music] we just feel your arms wrap around us lord when we hear you say you are seen you are known you are loved you are seen you are known you are loved you are seen you are known you are loved every single part of you you are seen you are known you are loved all the lies just go in jesus name and your truth speak louder this morning any heaviness of depression go in jesus name the racing thoughts stop right now in jesus name and the simplicity of you are seen you are known you are loved ring louder this behind and before and you lay your hand upon me such knowledge is too wonderful for me it is high i cannot contain it jesus we thank you that you see us god that in the midst of our days as we're going about our days as we're going to work as we're talking to people and loving on people that jesus you are with us you are omnipresent god you are there and you see us your eye is upon us god i thank you for your heart that has ever toward us i thank you that you are for us and you are not against us so today as a body god we receive your love we receive who you are as a father god we let go of all worry of all striving of all anxiety and we receive your love with open hands jesus we thank you jesus we love you holy spirit in jesus name amen thank you worship team [Music] i just want to time today we are going to have judy chao come and share a testimony with compassion network um and as she's coming up we're going to be watching a video on that and then she'll come up and share her testimony [Music] [Music] so [Music] hi church family my name is judy and for the past couple of years i've had the privilege of being um convergence and convergence house of prayers liaison to compassion network which is an organization in our in our bay area community who connects many of our local churches and connects different needs in the community with our churches and helps bring god's love to people in really practical ways like some of the things that you saw that we did in 2020 some of those things are big events like hardy harvest which is a thanksgiving food distribution every year and in addition throughout the year there are needs that compassion network is becomes aware of for individual families who might need help in the way of yard work or kitchen appliances or different things and then local churches spring into action to provide those things to those families i wanted to first of all just thank those of you here in our compassion family or our convergence family who have been a part of the compassion network events and outreaches that have been going on for the past couple of years it's been amazing one of the things that compassion network and also the local churches have been doing is moving moving towards a model where we're connecting with individuals we're not just handing a grocery bag over a table and away they go but our our our heart is really to be face to face with people to connect with people and then to have ongoing meaningful relationships with families on an individual basis and so we've been seeing many different ways that even over the past year we've been able to connect with people um i want i'll share a story or two at the end of it but i wanted to give you a flavor of what goes out on a weekly e-blast that compassion network sends out i have a couple of things from last week's e-blast and it's something like this one of them is a woman with three children all with special needs and a disabled husband who is unable to work is in need of bath towels and a king-sized duvet for her bed and then that one is in fremont another one is [Music] in union city a young couple who are low-income and have to move from their place in san jose and are in are in need of a queen bed as their current bed is very old and in substantial disrepair they are able to pick up the bed if available um there are other ones there are ones that um go out every week and they're different things sometimes it's a child who needs tutoring once a week sometimes it's you know a senior who might need some yard work done or a ride to the pharmacy so there are different ways that um come out on these e-blasts and different churches can respond and then have the opportunity to just meet face-to-face sometimes it's one time sometimes it's um you just build an ongoing relationship and over this past year i've been amazed in my own personal journey with this to be able to see how open people have been even when you ask a simple question like how have you been in the middle of this pandemic and people are just so open and transparent there's just so much going on in the lives of people around children who are depressed having lost a job worrying about where how they're going to pay their pg e bill um and nine times out of ten what we've found as a small team is that when we hear their stories and then when we offer words of encouragement or prayer nine times out of ten they gratefully receive it and i just see meeting practical needs like this is a way for us to bring the the generosity and the heart of god out to the intersection of where the church meets our community i just want to share one story that god really brings home what god is teaching me through kind of having a heart of yes and i think he's inviting our church and many churches in the bay area to have a heart of yes just to say i'm i'm willing i'm gonna just take a step out and see what you're going to do god and in my personal journey i've seen god work in ways that aren't just a conduit of his great great love but are a testimony to me of his provision and his love for people so the story that i want to share is around august of 2020 this was probably like five months into the pandemic compassion came to or basically announced to the churches that they had received a large donation of baby wipes gloves masks and disinfectant solution and they were asking the churches to be creative about ways in which we could use these supplies and just do something with them bring the love of jesus out to people through these supplies so a group of us here at convergence put our heads together and there was a group of probably five of us and we said you know what what we're going to do is take some of these supplies and we're going to pick a senior mobile home park and we're going to go and distribute some of these supplies and start building a relationship with that senior mobile home park so compassion network recommended a few parks viva chan i don't know she's here today but viva took it upon herself to call several of them and identify one that was open and eager to get these supplies so we basically arranged a certain day where we were going to bring some supplies in an open-air pavilion and whichever residents wanted to come we were just going to give them a set of these things and bless them and just start building a relationship with this community well we were told by the office manager that it would take um well he wasn't going to advertise by word of mouth and a lot of the residents were basically staying in their homes and not really coming out at that point in time so he said well you can expect maybe you know 30 individuals to come out it'll be kind of a very casual thing so that morning we went to the compassion office and we picked we picked up a little bit more like about you know 40 sets of disinfectant solution and gloves and different things in case there were a few additional people who showed up well in addition andrea had the great idea of getting some bouquets of flowers and just sharing in addition to the supplies just something that would brighten up their room so we brought all of these things over and as we were pulling into the parking lot lo and behold there was already a line forming an hour before of seniors that were coming out of the pavilion and wrapping around the office area it was a beautiful day and they were just standing around chit-chatting probably some of them hadn't seen each other in you know months um but you know as we were setting up and saying hi to people inwardly we were kind of panicking because there were way more than 30 people there or 40 people there there were probably like 80 people and it hadn't even started yet so we were too far away from the compassion office to run back and get more supplies so we just we just prayed and we said god this is a loaves and fishes moment we're just going to give it until it runs out and so we got behind the table we opened shop and people just started coming through and we started giving away and giving away and giving away and we don't know what exactly happened but we had enough supplies for everybody and we took some leftovers home um so you know to me as i reflect on that situation i think does god care that every senior who wants disinfectant masks and gloves that they get them in the name of jesus yes he he loves every person in that mobile home secondly can god perform miracles today in the middle of union city with masks and gloves and disinfectant solution yes he can and um it's just willing hearts it was amazing for us to see what god did there and i want to invite our church community here at convergence for whoever wants to take part in that intersection of church and our community to come join us either come join us in response to a weekly e-blast that goes out come join us for some of the bigger events that we partner together with other churches we are going to see god work god loves the bay area god loves every individual and he wants to use the convergence family and our broader church body here in the bay area to make an on the corner of blake cow and fremont boulevard when i gave my life to christ it was a time that obviously marked me forever i can say without a shadow of a doubt without any doubt in my heart there have been contributors to my life that have made me the follower of christ that i am today pastor greg being one my mother being one and many other people but i can say that the biggest discipleship that i have ever been through was feeding people who needed a hot meal who were in need of some hand sanitizer and masks if you want your life to be transformed like christ talks about the way we do that the way we receive transformation is serving like christ served i remember many fridays we had what was called the filling station the filling station was ran it was department of the church that was ran by kathy demario she was an amazing woman who was very fiery who was not afraid of anything she was the definition of biblical boldness she would look men that were daunting in size she would look them in the eye and tell them exactly what god thought about them she would cut straight to the heart because she knew the true love of christ as a teenage boy i would give up my friday and we all know we wait for friday like especially here in the bay friday oh it's like a fresh drink of water friday comes and it's like freedom but i chose to give many many not every but many many fridays to service at the filling station because i saw what it was doing to my heart i used to be so just in myself and kind of angry and moody especially because i was a teenager all the parents were teenagers bless you we're on that journey we're getting there slowly but surely our kids are oldest they're about to be eight but it feels like 18. they're already this tall i'm not a tall guy but man they're making me look even smaller if you want true transformation in your heart it happens through the work of the holy spirit partnered with the service of your faith so i want to encourage you i think this house is on a journey and journeys bring us through many seasons but as we're going forward what we're recognizing especially from this past year the need for us to be not just around the community but in it not just have our opinions about it but be influencing our communities to be the ones that are leading those to in the truth not just telling them about the truth so thank you judy and thank you team that has been serving our cities our regions you would you were the literal hands and feet of christ so thank you so much from the bottom of my heart and i'm speaking for the staff too thank you thank you guys um let's pray you ready the priority of this message today is that by the end of it you would love yourself like christ loves yourself loves you loves us and that we would love as christ does that's the goal that's priority that's my that's lord let me be your vessel that's my prayer heavenly father i ask that you would be glorified this morning and you would make yourself known i thank you lord that as we look to you we see the truth i thank you that as we set our eyes on things above we see and we are encouraged i thank you lord that you are the one that removes blinders off of our eyes i thank you that you are the one that leads us with your loving kindness into repentance and father we just ask that this would not be a regular sunday service because we're not in this life for the regular but lord we have said yes to growth to change to transformation we ask lord that you would have your will this morning and you would be in our midst so we give you this time because you're worthy you're worthy of our time you're worthy of our actions so we set ourselves in front of you it's not about andrew pastor andrew's message it's not even about the worship it's about your presence god so we set ourselves in front of you not so that we can look holy to our neighbor but because you are worth it we love you jesus amen romans 8 14 through 19. you ready we're in the past and translation this morning i know i know it's rare for me to be in the passing translation but when something is so good it's you can't deny it the passion translation is awesome i'm going to read this real quick it's so rich and flavorful just succulent flavor juiciness in this scripture it's like a t-bone steak on a sunday afternoon oh man you hungry i'm hungry you hungry all right hungry for the word here we go the mature children of god i say mature i many leaders and people say mature it is spelt matt m-a-t-u-r-e mateur but i've got an accent i'm from california i talk with the tip of my teeth mature the mature children of god are those who are moved by the impulses of the holy spirit we've been in acts this past long few weeks i was going to say decade but that was i don't know where that came from we've been at acts for for the past few weeks and this message complements everything that we've been going through we've been learning and encountering the spirit of god the holy spirit so the mature children of god are those who are moved by the impulses of the spirit of god by the holy spirit and you did not receive the spirit of religious duty thank you jesus leading you back into the fear of never being good enough man i i just got to get through i i feel like i need to stop this i have so much to say but let's just get through this real quick all right i'm talking to myself i'm not even talking to you i'm talking to myself you're just hearing me but you have received the spirit of full acceptance in folding you into the family of god and you will never feel orphaned for as he rises up within us our spirits join him saying in the saying word in the saying the words of our of tender affection beloved father for the holy spirit makes god's fatherhood real to us as he whispers into our innermost being you are my beloved child and since we are his chil true children we qualify to share in his treasures in all his treasures for indeed we are heirs of god himself and since we are joined to christ we also inherit all that is that he has he is and all that he has we will experience being co-glorified with him providing that we accept his sufferings as our own i am convinced that any suffering we endure is less than nothing compared to the magnitude of glory that is about to be unveiled within us wow the entire universe is standing on tiptoe yearning to see the unveiling of god's glorious sons and daughters wow look at your neighbor and say the world is waiting for you look at your other neighbor and say the world is waiting for you hannah can i have my water i forgot i forgot my water thank you the world is waiting for you oh that's so true but then you say the world's way but what's so special about me that little lying deceiver that is a the size of a fruit fly tries to plant some thoughts inside of our heads when we're sitting here at our king's table with our heavenly father do you see yourself there if you can't see yourself at the table when i was referring to when i got saved when i was 14 years old i felt this transaction in the spirit out i was there sitting at home watching the news all by myself house was empty my mom rolls in the door and she i'm like she's home early that's kind of crazy as a what a kid watching the news for whatever reason i was so mature watching the news she rolls in and she says andrew god's got a plan for your life i said i know i've heard this a million times but it was different this time there was a moment of saying yes to god that i felt the transaction in my spirit deep down in the deepest depths of my soul i felt this yes come alive and i felt a breathing in my soul of refreshing and though my life felt like it was falling apart because it was without christ that's the reality suicidal thoughts and anxiety and depression creeping in on my young life with that yes came a voice and it said a simple phrase shh it's going to be okay he said shh it's going to be all right that was the voice that i recognized that i have never heard before but i've only heard stories of it up until that moment that god would actually speak to those that he loves in that moment it was a marking moment on my soul that i knew that i had a loving father that no matter what i did he would always love me there was something called unconditional love that was discovered that day in my heart and i knew without a shadow of a doubt that it was the true work of the cross of jesus dying on the cross preparing a way for all of us to receive this savior if scripture is true then we have received a spirit of full acceptance that even though we were broken and fragmented he still accepts us he still calls us he doesn't call us to stay where we're at don't get my words twisted but he calls us and accepts us into and he grafts us in so that we can grow again not so that we bear no fruit because to be honest you're always going to bear something whether it's good or bad there's always fruit but he grafts us in to his family line and i'm not trying to say this out of arrogance i say it with all humility my identity as a son has been so secure from that day till this one because of that encounter my identity is a son of god the revelation hit my very being and i've never doubted it i have never gone a day where i go i don't know if i'm the son of god this morning if you feel like there is doubt in your heart i would love every eye to be closed right now in this moment we're all going to get saved all over again each and every one of us we cannot go through this life lacking this encounter and i believe that we have been building momentum in this area because we are in a region of orphans and in order to leave orphans we cannot be orphaned so father ask that your presence would be here and if you're willing to admit the need for that feeling that acceptance for that encounter just like i had to that would mark your heart from this day forward that you would never doubt your inheritance in god would you slip your hand up you don't have to go all the way up you can go you can go shoulder high that's okay thank you jesus all right go ahead put your hand down i want everyone to stand to your feet we're activating today today is a day of activation today is a day of movement we're going forward and this season is called forward we're moving forward and not going backward it is not a life of retreating it's a life of chilling with god like we're not gonna we're not gonna chill you guys ever go on a lazy river or ride an inner tube down a river and just you chill but you're going somewhere you're still you can you can relax in god you can have the best day with him all around you things are going by you're going through different seasons but you're going to be able to chill with god you're going to be able to be secure in him would you all say this with me father i receive your love your son bought me he paid for me finish the work in my heart thank you that you're faithful to complete it i receive you again i make you lord of my life from this day forward i am a son or daughter of christ you are my leadership and i choose you all right we're going to take a moment stay standing it's not about the tingles it's not about the shivers and jolts there's going to be a moment in your life where you'll go through a trial you'll face a disappointment what are you going to hold on to in that moment the holy spirit's speaking right now and he has a word for you you might have heard this word already but he wants to refresh that word in you today it could be as simple as mine the lord said shh it's going to be all right holy spirit continue to speak we make room for you this isn't about some three-point sermon that gets them saved healed and delivered this is about your presence and you doing the work i'm here chilling with you move on our hearts god refresh our souls today amen all right go ahead and be seated god's going to talk to you he's going to keep speaking he he he has a real hard time being quiet because he has so much good to say we don't want him to be quiet the devil does though the devil wants him to shut up and you it's true identity is always going to come back to christ our identity will always be found in him or the things that we believe about ourselves that are not of him will only be found in him so whether parts of us are willing to submit all of our thoughts emotions and processes it's always going to be around christ should i have said what i said would christ do it i love those what would jesus do bracelets when we were youth pastoring we brought those things back man we gave them out for free how many guys still have a what would jesus do bracelet yeah amen amen how many guys wear that bracelet jesus help us i want you to sit for a minute because you are a follower of christ i want you to sit and think about your dreams you can close your eyes no one's gonna i'm not gonna run down and go in front of your face and surprise you or anything like that you're safe here think about your dreams think about your call what god has called you to even from the earliest days of following christ maybe you've forgotten did you know that it says in ephesians 2 10 that we are his workmanship says we are his workmanship created in christ jesus for good works which god prepared beforehand that we should walk in them those dreams are there for a reason what are those dreams in your heart what has he put on your soul in your dna what has he put there what have we been sacrificing the world's waiting for you we said it in the beginning your neighbor said it to you the world is waiting for you those dreams those ambitions the world's waiting did you know that the bible says you're a citizen of heaven philippians 3 20 for we for our citizenship is in heaven from which we also eagerly wait for the savior the lord jesus christ where do your ideas come from what culture are you defining the creative outlets that you walk in the world's waiting for you the world's waiting standing in great anticipation did you know that the bible says that you are the light of the world matthew 5 14 says you this is the words of jesus you are the light of the world a city that is set on a hill that cannot be contained man it's okay to face trials and disappointments it's okay because when we do face that face the yuck the muck weighed our way through the waters it's a good sign it's like when you work out and you're sore it's part of the process of growth of getting stronger and getting healthier when we face those trials because the trials do come we're trying to figure out how to still count it as joy though we're still trying to figure that out and that's okay we'll get there paul didn't get it in a day james didn't get it in the day peter didn't get it in a day all the apostles that had written all this work of the cross did not get that in the day got to go through a couple seasons got to suffer a little bit but then the joy will come and it is going to be okay when those seasons come from me that's the word that i hang on it's going to be all right from that very day that i gave my life to christ it's what sustains me what we have been talking about the past couple weeks is the baptism of the holy spirit the one that fills us with boldness so much boldness that we can't contain it this is something that is a refreshing ask we have to ask for the holy spirit we have to be open for him to work in us and through us we have to be willing to look a little silly that's a nice way of saying putting it all on the line it'll cost us everything but if your identity is tied up in man's opinions and you let man define you then we'll have fear then we'll get comfortable see god has put dreams on your life he has called you to something and that thing could be you could dream to be an author to have your own ministry to even see miracle signs and wonders to walk into the home depot and lay your hands on someone who has a back brace and then leave the store without it god has put dreams on your heart god has put dreams on your heart to write songs that reach thousands that transform people's hearts with the love of christ god's put a dream on your heart god's put a dream on your heart to start a company something that is extremely challenging in the day and age that we live in because there's so many of them how will yours be different is a question that is eating at the back of your mind but god put the dream there i want to encourage you today that man's opinion of you does not have to become your identity what people say about you and their opinion of you does not have to be your identity if you choose to have your identity in christ if you choose to believe what the word says about you that you're a citizen of heaven that you're a light to the world did you know that when we receive the spirit that it makes us a personal witness to christ it says it right here acts 1 verse 8 you shall receive power when the holy spirit has come upon you and you shall be a witness and you shall be witness witnesses to me in jerusalem and in all judea and samaria and to the end of the earth there's a transaction when the holy spirit hits our hearts when he comes on with the anointing on our life the world's waiting the world is waiting for you this is a tough subject this is like tilling concrete in the bay area for you to sit and think about your dreams i feel it in the room i feel like you guys know what a rototiller is it's this thing has an engine on it and some little blades that they circle circulate the soil and they turn it to get it ready you could build after you tamp it down make sure it's all good you plant seeds it's a very useful tool in our region it could feel like we're trying to rototill concrete that is already laid already hard when we think about our dreams seems near impossible where's the finances how am i gonna make it and provide for my family valid those are all valid valid feelings valid questions totally but who put the dreams there who put him there this is a really good place to be in with that question who put it there did i put it there i think god did remember that scripture that i gave earlier that you or his workmanship this is this is hard because it it takes a lot of trust takes a lot of trust in his word this walk with christ you're his workmanship and he's laid out everything for us to work out to work through do you trust them it's quiet take a breath it's gonna work out it's gonna be good hmm if you feel uncomfortable today that's okay i'm not interested in your comfort if you're like why is he not saying more that's okay i'm not the one here to talk i'm just here to be a vessel this morning hopefully i'll say a couple right things for you that'll inspire you to be led by the spirit but it's him who does the work mm-hmm you know had a really good men's group week before last we were talking about the qualities of a godly man and after contemplating our conversation the lord was really revealing to me what matters most about his kids about us as followers of christ in all of us there's a there is a desire to really want to do well in this life and that's good we have desires to walk in integrity we have desires to be wise we have desires to walk boldly with christ we have desires to be loving people who care for the ones that are deemed unloved unlovable it's good the key to walking in integrity to walking in love to walking in wisdom to loving the unlovable the key to it all is to do our very best to be like christ to live like christ and to serve like christ we're called to serve like christ it's all on the line but the world is waiting the world is waiting hmm when you decide and make up your mind to live out the call of god on your life don't do it for those around you and don't do it for yourself do it because he's worthy we do far too many things because we want to better the lives of those around us or we want to make our situation better that is a seed that has been sown in our region for years to innovate and create to better the lives of those around you i want to encourage you today if you want to build something that lasts build it for him innovate for him create for him serve for him love for him you might have a dream on your heart to father a family to become a mother do it for him when we start to lack ambition it's because the roots of our seed are not rooted in him when we become comfortable and content that is the opposite of following christ when we become okay with the idea of that's good enough i'm not talking about perfection and that's man's definition there is a holy desire for greatness because that's what he's called you to but it's that kind of holiness and that kind of desire is only found in him i want to leave you with a question if i had 10 million dollars right here to fuel your dreams right here would you be able to define it would you be able to explain the call of god on your life the plans and purposes that he's laid out for you part of this is we have not sat enough and thought about what he's called us to but don't worry he's not afraid of that you haven't missed it you're still alive you're still here you still have time [Music] don't feel like you have to make this reality of your dreams come true just living his will and do his work and serve how he's called you to serve i want to challenge you we're we're praying for a great awakening and we're wanting and we're seeing and experiencing souls come to christ but who will lead them when they're here there is one call that the lord has placed on every believer there is one dream that he has had over all of our lives there is one position that he has you to fill that is beyond your personal call his dream his desire is that you would go and make disciples of all nations that you would baptize them in the name of the father the son and the holy spirit that you would teach them and disciple them in the ways of jesus that is the call that he's had on your life from the beginning of time he saw you today sitting in the seat that you're in and he has said that is my leader that is the one i've chosen that is the one that i have called that i sown in their mother mother's womb the identity of a leader someone who is worthy of the call [Music] foreign lord i just pray that you deposit in our spirits today something beyond our understanding we've been going in circles expecting new results but father we ask that you would birth in us the truth of our dreams of our call and that we would walk in the true identity of a follower of christ lord that you would not define our seasons by money that we would see you as the definition of success that your heart would be our goal that we would win you for our cities would you stand with me we're going to end here the last thing the lord wants to do is allow room for you to feel like you have to strive to achieve [Music] there's no striving in christ his love is free his presence is even freer we just have to say yes we just have to allow them to work you put your hand right there center mass [Music] holy spirit i asked for your fresh breath that you would breathe life where there seems to be no life that you would remind us of the dreams of our youth [Music] the passion of the desperate would you birth it within us god father would you plant lasting seed in our heart [Music] yes god how many of you have been praying for someone who is sick in need of healing okay i just heard ongoing issues ongoing issues are going to meet the reality of the cross ongoing issues are meeting the reality of the cross and i declare over those situations over those people that you've been praying for that by his stripes that he took on the cross the blood that was shed was for their healing and that they will walk whole in the name of jesus we speak it over these families over these loved ones [Music] in jesus name amen i want to challenge you this week [Music] write down your story write down those dreams that he birthed in your heart write down the moment that he marked your soul with his love where he instilled that identity in you [Music] when trials come hold on to his word when trials come remind yourself of the call when trials come remind yourself of the dreams that he has birthed within you he's created you for sustain and that's
