okay welcome back to part two of the series here we will take care of the forest scene that you can see in the short film hallway and actually every shot in the forest is done in the same way so I think just in order to make this video not too long I will just do it for one shot so you get an idea how this was composited for the other shots as well so for most of the shots in the forest I decided to use a drone in this case the mavic Air Pro 2 which is a godsend because DJI has a very cool app where you can just track a person in this case me and the Drone will do a very good job following me through the forest as long as there are no obstacles because in this mode I think the safety of the Drone is not that guaranteed I guess anyway one of these shots is the riverbed shots where I discovered the spaceship rack inside of the forest and for this shot I need every element like the Drone and the spaceship and some foliage and other kind of stuff so this is a good example how I set up all of these shots inside of the forest so once again trim down your footage until you gets the shot that you're after and then we can just one more time use the warp stabilizer to get the shakiness out of the footage then pre-compose this layer and use the 3D tracker with the usual settings so detailed analysis and typical and then we can select a bunch of the 3D points to create an origin and a ground and then I created a lot of solids throughout the shot to get myself an idea where I want to position different elements inside the scene so I created like 10 to 12 different solids to get a feeling for the 3D position of each element and then it was time for our first AI tool which is called mask prompter a very cool plugin that I bought on aiscripts.com and this plugin really speeds up the rotoscoping a lot and actually the way it works is pretty simple as we have different options to choose in this case I just simply created a point and the only thing you have to do is to keyframe this point on the object that you want to a rotoscope and actually within two or three minutes I completely masked out myself out of the shot like I would do with a green screen shot and it's pretty solid and you can even Define this with some sort of mask so you can just feather a little bit of the hard edges and really for like a process that normally took like half an hour even longer this is really a game changer okay so let's select all of our solids and the 3D camera and import them into blender with the blender AI add-on as mentioned earlier double check your focal length and your frame rate so that blender and after effects have the same settings otherwise it will not work and once this is done here's another quick tip I always like to render out a PNG sequence of the raw footage that I shot and import this into blender and the way that this works is pretty simple so you can click on your camera inside of blender and here you find the option background images and once you open this up you can see movie clip and this way we can import our PNG sequence out of After Effects into blender and use this as a background template to get a better feeling how the object needs to be positioned inside of our later composite and I think this is pretty cool so you can for example choose this solid here put the 3D cursor to the solid and import a cube and this way we perfectly integrated the cube into our footage and this really helps to create complex 3D scenes like this and of course you can turn off the background image for better performance inside of blender next up I separated a few elements from my spaceship model and re-texture them inside of substance painter to get kind of like a more used and aged look then I took the different elements from the selection and placed them inside of my 3D scene and as a next step I was adding some foliage using the bagger Pi add-on which is pretty cool so you simply select the object where you want to place your IV on select an asset in the asset browser and start drawing with your mouse and this way I use fairly quickly integrate IV into your model which looks cool in this case because it makes the object feel more integrated into the forest scene once all of our elements are integrated into the scene we can start creating a ground element for better Shadow catching so like we would do before we can create a plane and then inside of the object properties just click the shadow catcher option to make the object invisible and just catching Shadows from the objects above then I was quickly animating a drone which I found on SketchUp once again thanks for this awesome platform and with a few keyframes just animated the Drone throughout the shot and then you got something like this and actually this is not the best mood for the film so far because we landed on a very foggy surface and this Forest looks more like a sunny Bright Day in the summertime which of course it was shot in so the question is how can we transform this summer day mood into kind of like a more creepy and mysterious atmosphere and the answer for this is another AI tool which you can find in the DaVinci studio version and it is called depth mask so depth masks work the same way as zdap masks work in blender for example so adapt mask always mask out the area of a model depending on how deep they are into the scene so we can use this for multiple purposes for our scene and so for example we could mask out stuff we could blur stuff all like we would do in this case and we would like to add a little bit of haze and atmosphere into our scene so inside of Da Vinci invert your TAP mask and then just play around with the adjustments which you have to enable as well and once you get a workable result we can export this simply as a video for example in MP4 and bring it into after effects and then use this as a mask to make this a little bit clearer let's start with a simple white solid and we will use this as our Haze element so we need to set this one to mask and then select our mask which in this case of course is the dab mask and you can hopefully see the effect when we bring down the opacity objects in the distance are much more covered with Haze or Fork than the objects in the foreground in this case me and the Drone so you can hopefully see kind of like a gradient so if we turn off the mask you can hopefully see that everything is covered wide equally while when we use the mask you can see that there is distance happening between me and the background with objects further away this is pretty cool cool and of course we will not use a solid we will use some particles and some dust elements to create kind of like a hazy atmosphere that looks a little bit more realistic so select all the layers the particle layers and the smoke layers and use the same mask which is a little bit easier in the new After Effects version so you just have to Simply select a layer 1 in this case and invert every mask of the object that needs to be depth masked so here's the breakdown isolate the talent in this case me add the render add in haste add in color grade and add in a little bit of grain to get this here the Drone indicates several impacts due to the crash but there is no trace of Commander Halloween okay hopefully this was helpful for you we will see us in part 3 of this tutorial Series where things get seriously heavy thanks for watching see you next time [Music]
