this guide is going to teach you everything that you need to know in order to go from Bob level farming to PR level farming and grow your own crops and berries in Ark survival ascended there are four essential components that you will need in order to successfully Farm crops and berries in Ark survival ascended and these are seeds crop plots irrigation and fertilizer and we're going to cover them all in a lot of detail starting off with seeds you get seeds from the game by harvesting bushes and plants around the map either harvesting by hand or a berry Gathering creature after harvesting up a bunch of berries check your inventory and you'll see that you have a few seeds here we have some tinter Berry seeds and we also have some Amma Berry seeds this can be quite tedious to do by hand so what I recommend you do is use a berry gatherer it can be any Berry Gathering creature and you use it to harvest the bushes this is a lot more faster and efficient early game you may not have a good Berry gatherer but something as simple as a parasaur could also gather berries and seeds for you looking at the inventory of the angelosaurus you can see that we've gathered lots of different types of seeds here including the very important narcoberry seed there are four different kinds of vegetable crops that you can grow long grass Saar root Rock carrot and citronal so look for these seeds in particular when harvesting berries by hand or with a creature I have also found some seeds for crops in green drops in both blue and green drops I have actually found crops so grab all of those because not only can you use them for recipes you can use them to grow more crops you can use the crops to craft crop seeds the Iguanodon has a special ability plants that you need seeds for into its inventory which is mainly all your berries and crops then hold down the button to bring up the radial menu and you'll see in the top right here seed fruit in inventory so hit that button and it has now converted all of those crops and those berries into the seeds that we need this is a great way to get the seeds that you need in order to start farming on a larger scale the Iguanodon itself is a really good Berry gatherer so it's a really good early game team there are also some other seed variants in the game and these are the plant species X seed the plant species y seed and this plant species Z seed you harvest these by hand from special plants that you'll find in the environment plant X seeds grow into plant X turrets and are often found in swamps and across many maps in Ark now that we have all our seeds we need to talk about where to put them and that is in crop plots there are three main kinds of crop plots in Ark small medium and large there is also the tech variant of crop plot but that was unlocked with Genesis 2 but we're not going to talk about that in the video today crop plots can either be placed directly on the ground and now in ASA there's an automatic option to to stack them on top of each other allowing you to make vertical Farms crop plots can also be placed directly onto foundations and now with the new mechanics they'll often snap into place to disable snapping hold down the Q button small crop plots can be unlocked at level 10 the three different size crop pots have three different abilities the small crop pots contain 10 inventory spaces and they can hold 200 water and they can only grow berries they cannot grow any crops or special crops and they can only hold a maximum of 300 berries medium crop plots are unlocked at level 26 medium crop plots can grow either berries or they can grow crops holding a maximum of 300 berries or a maximum of 150 for any crop they also have 10 inventory slots but can hold 400 water large crop plots unlock at level 36 they can grow berries and all crops they'll again hold a maximum of 300 berries and a maximum of 150 for any crop it can hold significantly more water at 600 and it is the only sized crop plot that can grow the special crop like the other sizes it has 10 inventory slots so the lesson regarding crop plots is to only use the size plot that you need for each plant so use small crop plots for berries medium for crops and large for special plants this will help you save on space and materials because there's no point Point putting a berry seed in a large crop pot cuz it gives the same yield if you've started a crop and you want to clear it you hold e to bring up the radial menu and you'll see an option destroy planted crop Sav seedling hit that and the crop is now gone the fertilizer remains so you can add a new seed and start growing a different kind of crop we now have our crop plots with the seeds in them but they need water to get water into crop pots in its simplest form you can actually access the inventory put a water jar canteen or water skin in then you hit e to use it in the inventory and water will be in the crop plot this is not a long-term solution this one is only giving us 300 out of the 400 water we need another way that crops can fill up with water even without being irrigated is by rain you can see that this large crop pot is not irrigated but as it's raining it is filling up with water rain and water jars are unreliable so your best bet is to set up irrigation to set up irrigation you'll need one or two things you'll need a stone water intake and you may possibly need a water tank what you'll need to do is locate the nearest water source to your base and for me that's just down here and what you'll need to do is place your stone intake pipe just touching the water when it turns green once you've placed it hold down e and show the range and you'll see here this blue bubble it's unlikely that this will reach our crops but let's go back up and see so you'll see here that the blue bubble does not reach our crops and when we head over to our crops and in purple you'll see it says not irrigate what we need to do is move the water closer to our crops and to do that we'll use the water tank the water tank has a range which is a blue bubble as well so you want to place it so that the blue bubble is covering your crops you will also need to make sure that your water tank is connected to your water intake pipe how you will know that this is happening is that you'll see this blue arrow pointing to the direction of the water intake then place your tank you can actually drink water directly from the tank you can confirm that it's working when it's holding the maximum amount of water and it says that it's irrigated now you don't need any other taps or equipment this will actually directly irrigate all of your crops but we're missing one more ingredient in order to successfully grow crops the next thing you'll need in order to grow your crops is fertilizer in its simplest you can just grab poop from yourself or your Dino and place it directly into the crop plot and your crops will start growing this only gives you a very small amount of fertilizer so while easy it's not efficient 1,000 fertilizer units will fertilize a crop for 10 minutes while it's growing and 3 hours while it's grown another great way to get fertilizer is to use a toilet toilets unlock at level 32 they are quite resource intensive with a lot of metal and cementing paste needed and they needed to be crafted at your Smithy keep your eyes peeled though because I have seen a lot of toilets in supply drops in order to be working the toilet needs to be set up with your irrigation so I usually place it pretty close to the greenhous in order to use the toilet you'll need to be ready to poop how you can find out if you need to poop is to hold up the radio wheel and see if it's red if it's red you're not ready to poop you'll know that you're ready to poop when the food bar on the bottom right of your screen turns white you can check on the radio wheel and poop is no longer red you can press your shortcut to poop or hold down the radio menu you get a small bonus XP boost when you poop when you flush you'll notice that you get fertilizer added to your inventory place it in your crop plots and You' got way more fertilizer than you had before if you're not able to use a toilet another option is to use the compost bin the compost bin unlocks early at level 15 to make fertilizer in the compost bin you'll need to collect poop from creatures and yourself as well as thatch you need at least three pieces of poop and 50 pieces of thatch to create one fertilizer in the compost bin the process of this can take around 50 minutes so it is incredibly slow in fact because it's so slow you might be best saving your large feces to put directly into the crop pots and using the smaller ones in the compass bin the hands down best way to get fertilizer is to tame a dung beetle dung beetles typically spawn in most artifact caves and on maps with deserts you'll often find them roaming around in the sand artifact cases can be pretty hairy places so make sure you bring a along weapons or dinos for protection and also a stack of poop to tame the dung beetle dung beetles are generally passive creatures but they can aggro onto you if you accidentally hit them to teame one put the poop into the last slot in your hot bar and then passively feed it the larger the poop the better The Taming Effectiveness once you have completed your teame you can pick up the dung beetle and carry it out of the cave with you once you get the dung beetle back to base open up the radio wheel and check that fe's collection is enabled then go to behavior and put enable wandering on that will convert poop to fertilizer and also give you oil I also like to make sure mine is passive and on ignor group whistle so it doesn't get involved in any accidental following or fights and as you can see it will automatically start collecting all the poop from the dinos around increasing the melee damage will increase the range of poop pickup the dung beetle will convert one sized poop into fertilizer every 15 minutes so the more variety in poop sizes the more fertilizer you will get once everything is together your crop will start growing when your crops start out first they'll be seated then they'll turn into seedlings then it will go from midling to growling and then finally into froing and shortly after that it will start producing crops there is one more final step in order to increase the efficiency of your crop growth and increase it by up to 300% and that is to create Greenhouse structures Greenhouse structures are unlocked at level 42 to 44 and in order to make them you'll need to craft them at the Smithy they are somewhat resource in intensive requiring a lot of Crystal cementing paste and metal ingots it is definitely worth it because it will take your farming from basic to Pro the maximum greenhouse effect you can get is 300% the amount of greenhouse effect you get is determined by how many Greenhouse structures you're using and let me explain one Greenhouse ceiling alone gives 15% one Greenhouse wall alone gives 0% so in order to start the greenhouse effect you must have a greenhouse ceiling in place then each Greenhouse structure you have underneath that ceiling will add another 15% to the effectiveness so when we put the ceiling back on we have our Greenhouse wall the greenhouse effect increases to 30% we add another wall goes to 45 we add another wall goes to 60 we add a door frame we get 75% the doors are great for keeping people out but they don't provide any increased greenhouse effect so here including the greenhouse ceiling we have five Greenhouse structures and that increases everything by 15% using a 2x2 setup with four greenhouse ceilings we have a greenhouse effect of 60% and when we add eight more walls onto it we get a greenhouse effect of 180% if we move to a 3X3 structure of nine Greenhouse ceilings we start to get 135% greenhouse effect when we fill in the sides with walls which is another 12 structures we can now get a greenhouse effect of 3% this means that the minimum number of structures you need to get 300% Greenhouse Effectiveness is 20 so the best option for that is a 3X3 build you can use square or triangle foundations whatever you prefer but it just needs to be that size just to note with Greenhouse structures if you cover them with another structure you'll lose all Greenhouse Effectiveness which makes sense the greenhouse needs to see the Sun and note that this applies for caves and Tech Shields too Greenhouse structures don't work in caves and they also don't work underneath a tech Shield that is everything that you need to know in order to farm crops like a pro in Ark this video had a lot of information and if it helped
