Complete 1850s Bedroom Renovation!!

hello welcome to my very echoey bedroom today my mission is to make this room livable [Music] i can already hear a bunch of people being super sad about me pulling up this i don't even know if it's i don't think it's vinyl linoleum i have no clue what it is but i'm gonna tell you right now that it is in such bad condition it's not worth saving it like okay i'm just gonna you can literally just peel it let's just start cleaning it because it's horrible this uh this tiny table it's perfect for a mug [Music] look at this look at this this isn't even flooring [Music] you know what would be cool if i should have thought of this beforehand but if i cut out one of these flowers oh that is so sad look what i've revealed the pretty blue edge stops and then becomes ugly that's a tragedy you don't tell me the truth do i look like too much of a hipster or is that good i feel like these could be my next era the third pair that i got i was so excited by the color of and i think they're just the renovation hello okay i did it i feel very tired honestly i i can't i actually don't know why this would have happened like why would they just paint because i don't know they must it must have all been this color and then i it makes no sense to me does anyone else find this [Music] okay everyone i have finished i'm gonna see this might not work but i wanted to cut out like the oh it's hard with the gloves it totally that's so easy okay great um i have finished cleaning up this room in its initial shell form uh i still need to like use cleaning product and like take a rag to the walls and the window the mantelpiece and the doors because we've been doing that to the other rooms and they're filthy it's disgusting tearing up this floor has made me think that i might paint this floor like asap because like i was mentioning before hello everyone it's ariel from the future i know things that past ariel wishes you knew things changed and this was filmed months ago it took me a long time to edit it the clips of me cleaning out that bedroom happened in the first week of us being in this house i knew nothing two of my big challenges for this house were how am i gonna insulate it and what am i gonna do to heat it i thought i was going to tear down all of the interior walls put in insulation and then drywall the walls i am not doing that anymore i'm going to insulate from the outside i thought i was going to do in-floor heating i'm not anymore i'm probably going to do an electric heat pump and use the existing ducting in the house but because of what i thought what i'm saying in these clips is a little confusing i knew that my bedroom was going to be one of the last rooms where i would insulated and i would put in the in-floor heating so i had this mentality but i still agree with now that is i'm still gonna paint this room and make it cute and livable because i'm going to be living here for like a year before these updates happen but now i know and ariel will understand as as this video goes on that i'm not going to redo the floor i'm not going to redo the walls what i'm doing in this video is how this room is going to be forever and thank god because it's so much work even if it's only for a year or something i i think you should live in a nice place so make do those little things that make it nicer and this flooring is god-awful like this i didn't think i was gonna paint it soon but now that i've cleared it out and it's empty i'm like honestly this is the moment to do it so i'm gonna stop for today because i am very tired actually but i'm gonna join you tomorrow and i think we're going to be sanding the floor which is not a task i had envisioned myself performing anytime soon but i think might be what i should do [Music] all right machine accomplished uh while i was in there i bought paint too you know what bite the bullet we're doing it i want to get it done [Music] oh dear god i chose i'm back from my second trip to the hardware store today i thought i'd do a little haul you can hear the fans in there working working away i decided we needed real protection we've got goggles um it wasn't like i was choking in there my triple masks were definitely doing something and my glasses are like they would get really dirty so clearly they were coding but i don't want to risk getting sick or anything it's not worth it um especially right now during covid like avoid respiratory problems so i got goggles and i got a 2 and 95 masks which um i i think everyone should be careful about buying these right now oh are these different they're the exact same but they have different straps for some reason no idea um i think we should all be careful about buying n95s don't hoard them um they're really effective and it's we're still at a point where like essential workers are needing these for different things but i know i'm gonna be sending a lot more and so i'm definitely going to be using these too um and then the other thing i bought was completely unnecessary but i saw it at the hardware store the other day and i really wanted and literally i keep thinking about it and i was like i saw it and i was like you know what i'm just gonna treat myself so i bought this tool bag my life is so different than it was just a short while ago do so [Music] so [Applause] [Music] hey everyone i'm just getting into bed um and i'm so excited it's so so lovely in here it's pretty bare obviously um a lot of the walls are very bare but i got some of my plants in here i put some books in here i've got these baskets um other than that it's completely empty still but it just feels so nice to have a bed and a nice little room and i'm so excited to keep just what is that like hammering away at making it beautiful but already i'm so content hello everyone and welcome to my finished room it is time to reveal my finished bedroom it has been many months actually since all of the beginning footage and i'm really glad for that because it has given me the time to do some projects i really wanted to do to kind of realize what areas actually did what and i'm really proud of this room i'm really proud of it it's the first finished room in this house and i'm very excited to show you so please come on in when you come in from the door right behind we've got this mirror which is perfect because it's right next to the closet we've got my little laundry hamper and then we have my closet which i did a whole video on because it was a whole project please watch it in all seriousness i am very proud of this closet i think it came out exactly like i had in my brain and that it is so functional since finishing it i've brought in some baskets which are perfect for socks and underwear and guys i can't complain it works great it's i know it's a boring closet but it was many hours of work if we swing around here though ooh ah swinging swinging so clearly one of the most beautiful aspects of this old house is these mantle pieces that are in almost every room um because you know this house is from the 1850s so they if they wanted to heat a room it would have been with a fireplace ah they're so beautiful and there was a time when i had a tv up here and i'm gonna tell you what i hated it because of two things one we never watch tv in our room and whenever we do we end up using our laptop anyway so i was like i could have a beautiful piece of art up here and i thrifted this frame and showed it in a video if you want to watch that frame haul new concept sweeping youtube by storm frame hauls so we weren't even really using it and it was such an eyesore you know it was not like a really modern slick tv and i did for one moment look at the really expensive frame tv that looks like a piece of art but then i realized how expensive it was and i was like i'll just have real art it's cheaper and now i'm obsessed with this area like when i'm in bed this is what i look at and it's ideal i also usually have a plant or two here but i moved them downstairs because i was filming something but there's also sometimes plants up here it's just such a pleasant this is pleasant as heck isn't it look at me it's such a pleasant time but let us go now to this corner over here okay so this corner is absolutely delightful ah i'm obsessed with this chair i got it for sixty dollars or sixty five dollars on facebook marketplace and it's ideal it is absolutely ideal for this room because it is pink i think it shows up a little more burgundy on camera but it is pink and but not like a garish pink it's a very elegant pink and i think it goes so well with the floors and so i've got this really beautiful chair that's super comfortable where i can just sit and read and i do i say that i read here would you imagine um and i stare out my window and i feel that all is well in the world i got this table that i'm only so so on i liked that it could come over so i can use it for typing and stuff but now that i have my office almost done downstairs i really have not been working in this chair so i don't know if this is the ideal table for here anymore i do like the pouch though and then i also have this basket here um for keeping random absolutely random stuff acetone anyone let's shift over to the bedside okay so this shows the other side of the room and what a little paradise it is i love this bed i got this bed from wayfair which is not cool the bedside tables are antiques that i got off of facebook marketplace um and they're absolutely beautiful they don't actually perfectly match they have slightly different trimmings but they look beautiful i think and they go so well with this bed the other thing you can see from this angle is these bookshelves that i built uh i did a whole video about those bookshelves please watch that just watch all my videos please please i'm really proud of them though and they look so beautiful i think they add a lot of character to the room um and so let's take a note on the art in here we have this beautiful card that one of my best friends sent me a long time ago because i'm really obsessed with columns and she found this card that is perfect so i framed it and i think it looks so cute just randomly tucked in that corner i've got this really beautiful lighthouse that my friend maddie bien um illustrated and she had like this was many years ago she had a sale on her etsy or something and i was like i need it we have obviously the giant monet and next to it a klimt and a really nice um painting from etsy that my boyfriend got me and then behind me in the corner we have another clamped actually it's the same clip isn't it me and my boyfriend both own the same clamp um and then we have the piece of art from the old flooring in here i was so happy to frame that and put it up that is not the perfect frame or at least i need to paint it darker brown but it's so cute having that memory of what was previously in this room how far this room has come there's one final corner which is right there let's chat about that so in an ideal world i would not have this desk here this is my boyfriend's desk but it is not an ideal world it is a pandemic world where we're all working from home and because of construction in the house and because of like what room is being done when there's nowhere else for my boyfriend to work so this is where we ended up putting his desk i don't like it being here because i want this room to just be a bedroom and not be like an active work place but that's fine it's fine it's it's 20 21 there's a pandemic i just want to have like a little chest of drawers here like a small one that gives us a little more storage space in this room and that i can put like a little plant on and you know a little vase something cute but for now it is a practical space as well okay you join me on the floor because i want to talk about the pink floor for a hot second i'm obsessed with this pink floor when i started when i opened the lid of that can i was like oh god and as i started to paint the floor i was like oh god it was a bold choice that i'd made but i was committed i had this vision i thought it would look really cool and i am so glad that i went with the pink floor i think it looks incredible it makes me so happy and it adds a lot of character and charm and uniqueness to the room without having to have painted the walls i feel like i i hacked something here because i really like not in all rooms but i really like having white walls in certain rooms it adds a lot of calm so for the bedroom especially i was like i like the idea of a peaceful white room but the obviously the big drawback of a white room is that it can be very bland and boring and so by doing the floor pink it instantly reversed that this room is not bland or boring it feels quirky i guess but it feels cute when i was picking the pink color i was very adamant that it could not be like a barbie pink and the woman who helped me with the paint was so helpful and like pointing out what shades did what when you actually applied them and once they dried and we landed on this pink i will put the color down below because i don't remember it off hand but this is beautiful because it feels a little bit mature it's a little bit matte and flat but in a very pleasant calming way which was my goal for this whole room so i'm obsessed with the pink flooring great choice and people might ask me if it's hard to maintain absolutely not the only problem i had was that chair was kind of i kept pushing it back and forth i guess when i would sit down and it started to rub away the paint in one corner so i just got it little cups that have felt underneath and so now that's no problem it's really easy to clean it's i just vacuum it and then i mop it like once a month it's easy i love it i'm obsessed with this floor but that brings us to the end of my room renovation thank you so much for joining me i really hope that you guys enjoyed this video
