you look either one of us so start oh I got hot paint all right you want to get official high on camera perfect for coverage oh I mean you guys obviously have a really great working relationship and I feel like you guys kind of balance each other out whether it is awesome whether it's color laughing and I think sometimes it could be hard for people to have that working relationship where you guys really are friends outside of it and I think you guys well how you portray it is that you guys really are friends Oh bully I was friend before we were friends before we worked at the show and actually common the person that hired me really which that is they were highlighted at the time yeah so how did you that need to stand up clubs we both do stand up and he was like you should come in and be fun getting very funny and she would have been hired anyways better me how do you kind of preciate that from like a friendship outside of work to a working friendship where you guys are goofing off you know ideas topics and even like on camera joking with each other well Mona has this weird process weird but when he puts it when he put up together he just closed the door he snapped the pool too in half and he's just one of them breaking out of here and you know what we learned a lot about slow but yeah Beckstead yeah yeah I know I think he probably kind of saw something or trusted us to figure that out a little bit he gave me he I feel like he was more he gave had some patience which was nice to like let us find it a little bit what did we think it was going to be very different from what it was and we just had to trust that it was okay to think it different so it takes a while but one of you started it became fun again the thing with comedy integers you always just want it to be fun and like that's where everything comes from it's just being for having fun and in contagious when they see you smiling things you know they were gonna smile to laughing alone that was they were sitting just talking about comedy with mug becomes hot I'll never go holder I don't feel like hitting an armchair the thing I was telling you added you want to go for the last so what about each other in the stand-up clubs without each other comedy like you're you to each other why do you think each other we're 20 I think like I ever met oh my god all [Music] places know that he is laughing doesn't that have good content you can handle your hangout you're like okay I want a sales like wait like yeah we link each other laughing fun but that's that's everybody like that's like the whole cat for sure like you there's nobody in it and then character that doesn't make me laugh genuinely you know but it's also in comedy as surprising as it allows you to make you laugh who are comedians but there's not necessarily that many that you want to hang out with regular like all the time so that's like it's true most you who either have a go tonight out you know you're like that's fun we hung out that but to see someone every day in the hallway of work there's not a lot of comedians out there like you sir people you're like oh boy this again or something yeah would be in a room with them for six to eight hours or so just talking about bits and politics and like that and never an argument it just always trying to be on the side of funny and interesting and yes that's not easy to find all the time but we found it at Ohio State very found it down calmly Harlan even have the emblem on the month I'd look at that yeah bro issues holy singing oh it Brandon can you curse them you better I think that okay that'll be fine so speaking of finding comedy yeah it's very easy to find it out is and now enough likes you too but it's easy to find subpar comedy how do you find how you guys the good stuff when I try to our natural selection online where everyone can just upload it post whatever they please ah that's very tricky and you know we all have that problem but it's all I was I'm always premise driven or take driven at least like I'm always looking for something that's an interesting take and that's what kind of attracts me at first I think an internet on the internet you're like on internet on internet that you guys would look for some of this down and fun like most of you will share it to you to algorithms Italy it is what you know they'll send it to you will tomorrow at work but I think it's nice people make things that just make them laugh like you see people like a listen would you know Samberg and those guys like Lonely Island guys scoop I started with like they just made videos and kind of EPs around and they just made each other laugh and that was like how they started doing comedy and like I said I started a career but it started out as just trying to make each other laugh so I think it's okay if you learn to make a thing go on even if they're dumb or kind of half-baked that they might turn into something good number and also it's important for comedians to remember that good karma T comes from calm yeah it's to say it comes from the same place same call your brain so there's no such like and you're going to be bad on a long bad to figure it out it always is that's why Carly is the constant was content generating materials because you got a pergola stuff of so far the good stuff and the people that go and don't care about failing early on just go through that cycle faster like euro clear maybe they're failing off a bunch of the time on stage or something but they get through that and they get to being good faster you know like they could get another your system or can you learn from them but then also you're always going to fail on what you think you're not so what we're really doing right like a couple of your biggest failures that you learn from my first two kids I was saying definitely yeah very good great presence I the circuit batting a little gratitude realize they're going warm Kevin Kevin's oh you have is good he might not be mine up yeah others are does okay complete sir yet none successfully I mean lots of stuff but if you lots of those constant Phil yeah but you think about that you try not like me I think of things want the week that went horribly it might mean up in the past and you just you move on like you can't dwell on it or else you it is like ruins your life so you fail or like you apply to jobs and don't you're back or don't get them or you know and then you just keep going and I think you have to be resilient but if your guys are like submitted you know I tuned into so many shows before I got hired at SNL but you if you don't you know if you keep dwelling you're like oh I wish I had gotten this or this or this then you don't you know you don't like move on and get the next thing you guys think that comedy has changed since the technology of being able to upload wherever you please it's faster and it's less refined because everything so in stood in the media so you have an idea you post it up full economy a lot of times it takes a very long time to really refine a bit a lot of the best things that you've seen through the years was comedians working on it for years and years and get it right you know perfect but now everything's so fast and immediate people have to tweet it immediately and people have to cram it immediately and make the video immediately before anybody else gets to it and you don't have a chance to look at it with fresh eyes and say oh what if we did this way that way so I think that's changed it a little bit and also the attention span people just have people trying to be funny for 15 seconds as opposed to an hour which is part of you but the audience is changing like it's you know it's still out there this can still this still refined comedy out there as well it's just one more thing that is also Instagram comic and Twitter comedy and right like every new thing as a new version yeah all the notes you can you can get payment so much faster and you don't get fired so much better yes you know you can you can win and move in a matter of a week versus building a career and there might be little missteps but you're Jenna now you can say the wrong thing and actually lose your job you know which is insane but it's been kind of a scary weird thing but you can also get you can put the video and suddenly you're a YouTube star you know and some of my cats were moving because they're you took you know a baby the way it works out well yeah as an answer started well in the end well no because it's not good day you don't you know I don't want to take thing negative but you got to you got to paint open up you know but you can talk to us sustain a level of credible work my balls or anything both side of the project well our NATO bottom went up Bo Burnham was started on YouTube and you generated so much material and developed a live back as well he wasn't just to the point where you leaving them at the YouTube guy right and so you know that's exact that part is still important no matter which medium yeah you still need them work W Elmo still need to devote the work can't just be you talking about your cat benefit we boys I think I'm Emma okay you might say that yeah I do mind because it's my idea so yeah so like talking about different audiences so when you come to a place here like Ohio State and you're talking to a bunch of 21 year old how do you tailor what you're saying so that that audience thinks you're funny versus 45 year old America Taylor is just what you always got to know what you're talking about and who you're talking to but I don't tailor it are you a tailored voice I do my tailor you guys I'll say listen I was with my tailor who got a good like you looking good now the tailor review tailor it no not usually unless they're subject were like they're like 821 well shitty Houser he was probably right kid what how about have to show the novel tailor yeah and it's important medical Justin son I just don't want to get anybody trouble you know you look at me no I'm saying like sometimes you know you might say something a little raunchy and then the staff is like I didn't know we were gonna do this and make it you won't say anything but I yeah I don't need a without a night Vic it's funny it's funny you just gotta Connie you paste it differently with them the children's a joke and also that makes me very interested joke is a joke it's got to come from the right place because in the right place you can't go wrong even if you don't think it's fun you got to take yeah but I see how he got there that's honesty well yeah yes definitely got that kind of rocked me is it really I thought Lisa brilliant thing moving on to politics that's obviously than an interesting year with the election and the Trump presidency and there's a lot of controversy with you know this countenance decision door is actions like the immigration banned and a lot of those things really are kind of affecting your audience but you find a way to mix jokes about them to which they are extremely offended that they can enjoy it and kind of see the humor and a really crappy situation how do you kind of decide what you're going to make jokes about and how you make them transform them from being something that's dark and you know threatening to their families to something else it's very late and they can laugh about it with those families I think that you have a as wide of a base as we have for our show it's impossible to please everybody so you kind of juice like we were saying earlier just have to trust your instinct in knowing if it's making us laugh and where there's something in there yeah you're reasonable people and it's really making us laugh and all we do is comedy and the comedy fans before we were painting then with something in there you got to kind of trust it and there's always gonna be somebody that says you shouldn't say that you shouldn't say that I mean there's no folk that's unanimous there's no one's been elected unanimously so there's always going to be people who aren't going to like it but it's fine just you kind of gotta just stick to your guns with what you truly think is funny about it and hopefully people I know people come back with you that you can work again next year yeah but true yeah I agree get up yeah you're doing the next question by the way no do you think that there's potential for people to learn about politics and be engaged with news through SNL and your Weekend Update I'll take that one yeah laughs I guess my whole leverage ah yeah I think so I think people get some I think now it's easier to watch news with jokes is read than just watch news big to get you get depressed if you're just watching regular engine you know I think at least if you are watching something that is comedy with it ideally comedy with it then you get you know you you really feel like you're you're you know some release to it and it's not just that for sending no well counterpoint I I mean I just I think it's just a joke you got a look kid get your news from comedy it just can well yeah I mean now yes you can't rely we're a like reliable sort and I realize but me exact we're just trying to make people laugh with not right you can't get from if you happen to learn something from us that's let go of black rated holy crap thank you and learning but yeah it was just jokes mostly PP jokes summative oh we are just we can pick each other your name I would love that good morning hoping for that yeah I think I think he was hoping with the attitude well for those people that do seek the news and comedy there's been a lot of rumors about a set-off show with just you guys I know I read a political article the other day and if you want to break the news of anything funny I'm glad you say the lantern to see Lantern we can't contractually talk about that you know I'll be honest with the I honestly don't know yeah but we're that's what I've been fighting you and everybody we really don't know I guess I mindset him work like official I think it sound like I had knowledge of keeping from you instead of feeling like I don't know they'll never child what do you guys ever want to have your Early Show as a Weekend Update oh okay we sure oh yeah no I thought you good like Michael said we're never conveyance I would ask my buddy my buddy not like a sick couple which I want to write I want to create a thick on for Michael just so you get to do it are you serious can I be the wacky neighbor yeah but you want me to play everyone Kennedy regarding the club okay that's mammoth peeking out of the club this is EP show the club and that's the sequel of a very precise right - maybe a third one I'll do a club me remember regular - okay like it says Vicki the Dodger games I think we found a club sorry ma'am okay keep a couple I'm sorry so sorry okay yeah would you see that's not a joke about dizzy yeah just another thing a joke about it being great have about the compass yeah this is a silly joke immense that's how you should approach comedy with us thank you outfit these Ohio [Music]
