Coffee and Crime Time: The Disappearance of Suzanne Morphew

to my channel today we are doing another coffee and crime time and we're talking about the recently developing case of Susan morph you please forgive me for my casual appearance or should I say more than usual casual appearance because usually I'm pretty casual but I did get a bad sunburn yesterday when I was outside doing yard work and it hurts to wear anything that's not very loose and I couldn't even straight my hair today because I couldn't like lift my arm a lot it hurts so that is why I look like I just got out of bed but the case that we were talking about today it doesn't care what I look like because we have a woman who's missing and needs to be found at least we need to know what happened to her and of course there's a lot of speculation out there before we get started I almost astonishing how little information there is and I think this is being done it purposefully but we'll talk about that in a minute well we are back in Colorado I don't know what's going on there something in the water ley lines what-have-you but this state has been the backdrop for many of the cases we've talked about over the course of our time together on this channel Gannon stock shannon bala CC and nico watts kelsey Bharath Laci Peterson JonBenet Ramsey today the woman who brings us back there is Susanne Morphew who went missing just this past mother's day from Salida Colorado Salida seems like an awesome place to live it's known as the heart of the Rockies and features the largest indoor hot springs facility in the country the Arkansas River also runs through the town and is known for its world-class rafting there's also a Brown's Canyon National Monument just outside of Salida which offers plenty of options for solitary hiking or meditation as well as horseback riding kayaking fishing and hunting fun fact the stretch of the Arkansas River in and around Salida has up to 5,000 trout per mile so it's not a surprise that the Morphew family would want to live there which they ended up doing moving from Arcadia Indiana in 2018 this case has been tough because the authorities are being very tight-lipped about everything and it becomes more and more bizarre the closer you look what I do know is the more few family looks like they could have been on the cover of a magazine Suzanne was a gorgeous 49 year old woman fit tan beautiful smile she and her husband 52 year old Barrymore few were married in 1994 and together they had two daughters Macy and Mallory and these girls are gorgeous as well Suzanne's husband Barry is also incredibly handsome what you would think a Ken doll looked like in his 50s he looks like he was a high school quarterback he looks like he was probably in a frat during college he's just got that kind of look about him all four of them tan gorgeous beautiful smiles incredibly happy looking they live in this sprawling 1.5 million dollar house that in my humble opinion can only be described as a mansion this video from CBS channel 4 in Denver showcases just how remote the home was surrounded by trees mountains in the distance and really no neighbors in sight initially it was reported that Suzanne's disappearance was brought to the police's attention by a neighbor 70 year old Jeanine Ritter Ritter called the police at 5:45 p.m. on Sunday saying that Suzanne had gone out for a bike ride earlier that day but hadn't returned yet which did cause some people to question how she would have known that considering that their houses weren't exactly right next door to each other as the early articles made it seem when I first read the articles on this it really made it seem like they lived in a housing complex kind of like mine where all the houses are right next to each other where you can kind of see into your neighbors window from your window but that's not the case as we can clearly see from that video now it seems that Suzanne's daughters were the ones who called Jeanine Ritter saying they were having a hard time reaching their mother and asking if Jeanine could check on Suzanne which leads us to our next question where were Macy Mallory and Barry Moore few on that Sunday it's reported that Barry Moore few owned a landscaping company when he lived in Indiana and currently he was a Chafee County volunteer firefighter so he owned this landscape business when he lived in Indiana and then when they moved to Colorado he became a volunteer firefighter but he also did some landscaping and work like that on the side relatives told cbs4 that Barry had been in Denver that Sunday 150 miles away from his home taking part in some type of training allegedly connected to his work as a volunteer firefighter now here's the next piece and this is the one thing that I incredibly suspicious above all County Fire Chief Robert Bertram was asked to confirm this story and he was able to confirm that berry is one of the 40 volunteer firefighters in the county but as far as this additional training taking place in Denver Bertram claims he's never heard of it he said quote due to the pandemic our firefighters have not been attending any trainings sponsored by us he added that sometimes the firefighters will pay for training courses on their own but he had heard that berry was in Denver working on a landscaping job May 10th according to fire chief Bertram once the more fuse moved to Colorado berry continued working on landscape projects freelance due to the high demand of construction work in that area and he also said he'd never known the man to be dishonest saying quote if Barrymore few tells you something you believe it Barry and Suzanne were both well-respected well-liked members of their community and active members of their church in according to many who knew Suzanne it was common for her to go on a bike ride Sunday mornings before church now Macey and Mallory also appeared to have not been home that Sunday it's unconfirmed but Macey does have an Instagram profile she's quite active on it she's a pretty large following and on May 9th she posted this picture of herself with the location Idaho and the caption Mountain getaway it has been reported but is still yet to be completely confirmed that the sisters were on a camping trip in Idaho that weekend once police got the call they began searching for the missing woman Chafee County Sheriff Jan Spees II gave a comment that both the CBI which is the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the FBI have been actively working together on this investigation there's been foot searches air searches water searches canine support and even drone searches these searches have taken over 200 personnel and 200 plus man-hours but they didn't find Suzanne they did however find her bike which was confirmed to be her bike by her nephew Trevor Noel who's become kind of the unofficial family spokesperson on this case the bike was found on a bridge near her home just west of County Road 2:25 and highway 50 along with an additional personal item which has not been revealed the condition of the bike hasn't been revealed at this point either but when Trevor did give interviews and he gave confirmation that the bike had been found he did it in a way that definitely caused speculation he kind of said I can't really say a lot about it I can't really tell you exactly what the condition of the bike was but I can report to you that it has been found which leads me to believe that there's something going on with the condition of the bike sheriff Jones beatsie requested a dive team to be brought in and check waterways and he also asked residents of the area to hold on to their surveillance and doorbell video footage from the dates of May 8th to May 12th in case the police needed to review them so he pretty much said you don't have to turn these in yet we're just asking that in this time period you hold onto these recordings because sometimes recordings on doorbell cams or surveillance video they will record over each other to save space so he wanted people to know don't let your systems record over this footage please hold on to us in case we need it and the really difficult part with this case is it's hard to pin down exactly when Suzanne went missing because no one actually saw her on her bike that Sunday morning once again when we first heard about this case that wasn't made clear it was made to sound like her neighbor had seen her leave on her bike that Sunday morning and not come back and when it started to get dark she got worried and called the police but it has now been confirmed and nobody actually saw Suzanne leaving on her bike that morning her husband and her daughters were out of town so depending on how long she'd been alone in their home or how long it had been since anyone in her family was able to get ahold of her she could have been missing longer I think I saw it reported that the last time anybody actually spoke to her was Saturday as of now these details have been withheld from the public however the family has been asked to remain out of the residence as it is searched and barrymore fuse vehicle and cell phone were taken from him by investigators as soon as he returned from Denver neighbors expressed that they felt they lived in a safe area in which no one even locks their doors and they wondered if Suzanne could've fallen victim to a wild animal attack since mountain lions are known to be in the area Sheriff John spitzy commented that he believed an animal attack is an unlikely scenario and even though the case isn't being looked at as a criminal investigation at this point the possibility of foul play has not been ruled out so at first we weren't hearing anything from Barrymore a few and any information that we were getting from Suzanne's family had been coming from her nephew Trevor however Barrymore few has released a pre-recorded video biking for the safe return of his wife here is that video message now Suzanne anyone is out there I can hear this that has you please do whatever it takes to bring you back no questions asked however much they want so it's very short very to the point he hasn't been interviewed by any news outlets and it's led many people to speculate that he may know more about Suzanne's disappearance than he's letting on which is why he's avoided making the same mistake that Chris Watts and Leticia Stoke have made in the past giving an interview and then seeing something which catches them up or raises suspicion of course when a woman goes missing like this the spotlight will always find its way to her husband or her significant other sometimes it turns out that they're guilty sometimes it turns out that they're unjustly dragged over the coals by social media like the husband of Heidi Broussard who everyone was calling Chris Watts 2.0 when he was actually just an innocent man who was struggling with the loss of his wife so I hesitate to jump to conclusions or start analyzing voice patterns and body language this early on especially since we know so little is it possible Barry is more involved of course but it's just as possible he knows nothing at all and is struggling with the loss of his wife Barry's uncle from Indiana Bob Moore few thinks we should just cast this kind of thought out of our heads the fact that Barry might be involved he says that Suzanne was one of the sweetest people you would ever want to meet and the Shia and Barry were a loving couple he said quote I've never seen any kind of unhappiness with each other or produced by either one of them what you saw in that video from Barry the other day that's exactly Barry and that's exactly how he feels he loves her and he wants her back he wasn't putting on I think anybody who ever knew them at any point in their married life would tell you that they were as loving of a couple as you would find anywhere now that is very valid I'm sure that Bob Morphew knows his nephew and his nephew's wife very well but then of course those of us who follow these true crime cases very closely know that sometimes appearances aren't all what they seem for instance Scott Laci Peterson how many people said Scott was the nicest guy Scott was so sweet loved his wife so much they never fought there was never any issues and I mean we kind of know how that ended now it seems Suzanne was very happy with their life in Colorado but something interesting I found out from heavy comm was that the more fuse moved from Arcadia in 2018 and Suzanne had posted pictures of their home they're on Facebook after listing it for sale she said the house was on 15 acres of land and it was listed for 895 thousand dollars however property records show the house and the property in Indiana have never sold and are still owned by the more fuse this is interesting to me because if they have a mortgage on this house and they would assuming it's not completely paid off and it's very rare for people to have their mortgages completely paid off so if it's not paid off they are currently paying two mortgages for two very expensive homes and they have been for the better part of two years I'm not educated on their finances to know if they're in a financial position to be able to swing these kinds of expenses but I can't imagine it would be easy even if you were well-off I mean even if you had tons of money even if you were a millionaire you're still not gonna want to pay a mortgage on a house you're not living in and is kind of sitting empty finances and money troubles can often be the source of marital issues even if the couple is happy and loving and we saw this in the Chris Watts case although Shannon and Chris put on a good show that they were doing well that her business was paying off that they were working out and they were being healthy and they were having another baby and everything was great behind the scenes we saw that they were up to their ears in debt now as I mentioned before law enforcement is being very secretive with details of this case we don't know what the bike looked like we don't know what kind of bike it was was it a mountain bike was it an off-road bike was it just a regular bike we don't even know when she was last seen who she was last seen by well she was wearing the day that she went missing I can't even find really what kind of work Susanne did if she was currently employed how old her daughters were etc now from pictures it does look like Macey and Mallory are teenagers so high school late high school college age but we don't really know anything else we don't know if Barry was in Denver for just the day or the whole weekend we don't know if his alibi has been confirmed or due to his vehicle and cell phone history if he was actually even there we don't know if the personal item found belonged to Suzanne or someone else in the family like Barry or the girls it almost seems like they know how closely the general public is now looking at these cases and they want to give out as little as possible to reduce the level of speculation out there but as we find it really only seems to increase it Barry more few has offered a $100,000 reward and an unnamed friend has matched that bringing the reward up to two hundred thousand dollars with the promise of no questions being asked a lot of people have taken issue with Barry saying no questions are gonna be asked I don't I feel like in that situation if it was my husband or one of my children gone it doesn't matter why you took them it doesn't matter who you are at this point if I can get them back safely that's all that matters to me I won't ask any questions I won't even try to find you just please bring my loved one back you're that desperate at that point so there's no real strangeness in that in fact I thought Barry's whole statement was very level very I don't know straightforward and I do think that he probably did that in order to avoid being interviewed in order to avoid having somebody asked him a question that might make him look guilty even if he's not guilty because like I said we did see this with the Heidi Brassard case you really can't expect to put people who are in the throes of sadness and loss who are literally within the first week or two of a loved one disappearing you can't put them in front of a camera with reporters and expect them to act completely natural although I do like those interviews because if somebody is guilty like Letitia stout it's pretty evident when they're talking to a reporter but it can also seem like somebody is guilty or has something to hide when they're just in fact mourning and confused and desperate and lost now here are some speculations and rumors that have been floating around a YouTube channel called a crime for one one Iran by a woman named Melissa Markey claims a source told her that Barry had a mistress who was part of a hunting group Barry belong to according to this youtuber law enforcement has been to the house of this woman to investigate and it also seems if this woman exists she's very young twenty nine to be exact what having a mistress make it more likely that Barry would have something to do with his wife's disappearance I mean yeah it would make it more likely that he might want his wife to disappear but simply having an affair isn't proof positive that Barry Moore if you would try to get his wife out of the picture as many men and women have affairs all over the world and they don't attempt to take out their significant other I would obviously like to know if there was a life insurance policy to see if Barry would stand to gain financially from his wife no longer being alive but as of now we don't even know what the status of Suzanne is she could be gone but she could also just be missing and having a missing wife is a lot more complicated when talking in terms of life insurance payouts it can take several years to have a person declared dead in absentia so it certainly wouldn't be an immediate gratification kind of scenario Barry with self to wait unless her remains were found now there is a residential riverfront property on County Road 105 that police spent three days searching apparently Barry Moore few had been hired by the homeowner who has been cooperative with police to do some work on the property including laying dirt it also appears that concrete was poured on the property over the dirt that Barry Moore few put down but police did dig up that concrete and that dirt and they found nothing in connection with Susan Moore phew Barry has also been reportedly pacing around the house of a friend he's currently staying with staring out windows and going out to drive around in an effort to remember any suspicious vehicles he had seen in the area around the time his wife went missing so obviously this whole job site thing would have been a really perfect place to hide a body if you had one to hide Barry Moore few lay down the dirt and he would have known concrete was going to be placed on top of that dirt however according to the police they found nothing that connects Suzanne to that site and there's also a lot of other places in the area you could dispose of a body if you had one too disposed of a person necessarily wouldn't need to go to all the trouble of putting her under dirt and concrete the Arkansas River is right there the Arkansas River is the sixth longest river in the United States and the 45th longest river in the world and the first section of that river starts in Colorado running through steep and rocky train dropping 4,600 feet in 120 miles the high snowpack in the high Rockies keeps the water levels high and perfect for rafting the time period of early spring is one of the two times of the year the river is at its highest the river can also move very fast in some places as well so we're in early spring technically if the river is gonna be pretty high because of all the snow melting and all the rain and if you were to find an area where you do a lot of light water rafting where the rivers rushing very quickly if you were to throw a body in there it would probably just get pushed along by the river current and it could really end up anywhere from Colorado to Arkansas now of course in cases like this where the police are being very tight-lipped and we want to know more the true crime community on Facebook is where I turn and it's not always accurate but it does seem like they are a lot more willing to share potential information than the police are in order to avoid having you know an open investigation become compromised but the people of Facebook are like this what we heard and I think that's fine because for adults we're grown-up people we can read something that might be speculation of rumor and decide for ourselves what we think about it or where it fits the police think that we're all a bunch of crazy people that just you know talk about true crime on the internet and speculate and try to run witch hunts for people and some some channels and some blogs and suffer like that but I think the majority of them are not so I do like to go to Facebook it's the only reason I go to Facebook now to just check in and see what the community saying the community of people who follow these cases better and more closely than anybody and they have the ear to the ground so one of these posts actually looks like a screenshot that came from another youtubers video I'm not gonna say that youtubers name because there's no point but it says you and every other youtuber are not fact-checking in this case koat a said berry was at FFT those words never came from him berry statement was he was in Denver since Friday on a job site and he was the daughter does live at home and are with their father standing by his side he has taken and passed a lie-detector test both sides of the family are supporting him and the girls her friend talked to her on Sunday morning when she said she was going on a bike ride the text about call the police if I don't come home false I never heard anything about that both Barry and the girls had spoken with her on Saturday a tip from a person who lives by the site they were lied them what a tip from a person who lives by the site they were lied them I don't know I think this person's saying that they were lying a different person who lives by the site they were lied at them they only because they knew it was his company doing the work there on that Monday of the 11th and it was his crew the work was pre scheduled nothing was found law enforcement is not telling us about the other reported lead of a woman being possibly abducted around that time in that area and that Suzanne had complained about a man to her family Barry's video when he said I will give or do anything is because of that report law enforcement is not sharing everything being put out is false I am only telling out of respect and recheck what you are putting out I sent you an email which shows on the sheriff's page about the abduction report the man is not involved he has 100% cooperated everything has been false info in the media is too much of a coward to correct themselves okay so I don't think the media has said anything to suggest that Barry might have been involved I mean maybe to suggest but they haven't come right out and said it and if it's true that all of these facts we've been getting are completely false and not just from one media outlet but from multiple then yeah that is an issue however I would like to address this person and anybody that kind of has the same opinion as a youtuber who covers true crime cases we can only really rely on what mainstream media is saying since they're the ones that have connections to the police department and oftentimes they're the ones who are in that city or that area when it's happening so if mainstream media is reporting something that's false or they're not reporting something that's true we would really have no way of knowing that so we just do the best we can and we cover these cases and go through these cases just like the rest of you the fact that the sheriff asked people to keep their surveillance footage from the dates of May 8th to May 12th is also a little strange to me so it does suggest that maybe the police think Suzanne was being stalked or watched and maybe will pick up that person on the camera of the house or other houses at some point before she goes missing the CBI and the FBI did go into the Morphew home they had a shutdown I still don't think anybody's allowed in there and they did take bags and bags of evidence out which did lead people to believe that they thought something happened at the house that possibly having the crime scene investigative team there taking evidence out would suggest that they thought the crime happened at the house and this can be very true but it could also be true that they're just trying to get an indication of who Suzanne talked to maybe go through her papers maybe go through her emails get the electronic devices see if she was getting threats see if she was getting phone calls see if she was getting mail or something that would suggest she was being stalked or followed and it's been about two weeks so if the police really did suspect barrymore few at this point I have to believe that he would be in custody but at the same time we see that's not always the way it goes because Letitia style was walking around her run in her mouth for a month before she finally got arrested sometimes they just want to get enough evidence to make a case against somebody before placing them under arrest so it's exactly as the police and law enforcement and everything they want it right now they want us all completely in the dark and we pretty much are but this comment also says something scary that there was another woman who was abducted from that region around the same time and police aren't saying that and if that's the case if that's true it's incredibly irresponsible because if there's somebody out there snatching women left and right in that area they should let people in that area know that there's a potential serial predator out there people should know that they need to be aware and careful and what to be looking out for so I cannot imagine that's true because if it is true and it hasn't been publicly announced it's very irresponsible on behalf of the CBI and the Chaffee County law enforcement this incredibly irresponsible and I just can't imagine that people who have taken an oath to serve and protect would allow other people in that area to walk safely and keep unlocking their doors and this isn't that knowing that there could be somebody out there who's attacking and kidnapping women now there are other questions right Suzanne's a cell phone for instance there are reports that her cell phone was left at home if her cell phone was left at home I don't believe that she went on a bike ride I do a lot of running outside I do a lot of biking outside I love it but I always bring my cell phone for multiple reasons one I want to listen to music well I'm running or or biking because otherwise it can get pretty boring or a podcast or something in two because if something happens to me I want to a be able to figure out where I am if I got lost or B call someone like let's say my bike gets a flat tire I need to be able to call someone like my husband to come and pick me up or let's say that somebody's following me and I'm freaked out because we're in a place that's kind of solitary I'm gonna call the police and let them know where I am and they're gonna be able to find me based on my cell phone GPS I also have an app that tracks the miles that I biked and how long I bite for and what routes I took and stuff so I can repeat the ones I like so I don't think that Suzanne as somebody who was an active cyclist if that's true would leave the house and go on a bike ride without her cell phone so if her cell phone was left at home that's a little bit suspicious to me and this is reminiscent from the Shannon Watts Cape as soon as I heard the Shannon's wallet car keys purse in her phone or still I have a house I knew you don't leave your house especially with two young kids without a cell phone it doesn't make any sense I hope some updates come out and I hope it turns out to be more like the recent case of the Ohio teenager at Madison Bell who went missing and was found safe than some of these other cases that we've been dealing with lately like Gannon stock and the Watts case and Laci Peterson where it's just not a happy ending so I hope that Suzanne can have a happy ending cuz she really does seem like a beautiful woman and I'm sure her daughter's love her so much you know it's hard when you're a teenage daughter to not know where your mother is because you still need your mom and I do think that's what Barry Morphew meant when he he said that in his little interviewer statement he said you know we love you and your daughters need you and people were like wait your daughters need you I don't need you who says that and it's just it's ridiculous like as an adult I love you but I don't need you I love having you with me I love having you as my wife or my husband I love that we have a partnership and you know a great relationship but your daughters need you they need you to be there when they have boy problems they need you to be there when they're applying for colleges they need you to be there when they get engaged and they have to pick out a wedding dress they need you to be there to help plan their wedding or to tell them what to do when you get pregnant and you have morning sickness or to tell you how to get your baby to sleep if it's colicky like a young girl and a young boy needs their mother and any parent for those sorts of things so I'm thinking that's what he meant by it I don't really like picking apart everything someone says or how they're acting initially and with latisha stout I had this immediate feeling something's wrong here this doesn't make sense with this case I don't have that initial feeling I don't have that initial feeling that barrymore few is being untruthful or is lying to us or has done something to his wife in fact I think it would be so stupid at this point to even try to get away with something like that because it just seems like especially in Colorado all these criminals are being held under much higher scrutiny now because you had these things that kind of snowballed after Chris Watts you had Patrick crazy and you had tea stout and it did seem like Patrick Frazee was kind of modeling himself after what Chris Watts did so as a man in Colorado I don't see you having your wife disappear and then coming up with you know this kind of story that maybe has some holes in it like firefighter training in Denver during a pandemic when there's no actual classes going on if that's what he said if that's what he actually said and that was a statement and that's where he said he was that's suspicious but if that's not what he said and it's just misconstrued then it's not really suspicious but we need the facts and we need evidence before we start to jump to conclusions and accuse people of be murderous that's all I mean I know we're all we're all a little like raw from everything that's happened lately and we we want to see people now go missing anymore we want to see people and that be killed anymore and it is a statistic that when a woman goes missing or is killed it's usually somebody she knows sometimes and often a romantic entanglement of some kind we don't know anything about Suzanne we don't know who else she knew who she was friends with if she did feel like there was somebody following around so there's too many questions too many unknowns for me to jump right here in front of you and say I think Barrymore view is guilty that would be irresponsible of me because I really don't think that I don't know if he is or not I don't think he's not guilty I don't think he's innocent I don't think he had nothing to do with it but I don't know what to think at this point and it's okay for me to say to you that I don't know what to think because I really like to have as much information as possible before I'm drawing these conclusions especially when it affects someone's life someone who has two daughters that clearly are standing by a side and looking up to him and you know mourning with him for their missing mother so I'm not about that and there's no witch hunts going on on this channel but let me know what you think feel free to let me know what you think do you think it is suspicious because of who he is or his story or do you think it's suspicious because it just so happens that every time something like this happens it's the husband or the boyfriend do you think he's not suspicious do you think there's any rumor of this possible mistress or a fair going on let me know what you think about it and hopefully some new information comes out I'm currently recording this on Monday and I think that there's supposed to be another news conference or update coming out so if something you know monumental and earth-shaking comes out in this update or within the next couple of days then I'll just do an update video for you guys but over the next couple of days I am going to be a little bit less active as far as like posting even on social media because I have to get some Halloween work done I have you know all of October we do Halloween and it's just like three or four videos a week and they're kind of like spooky true crime mystery videos and it's always a lot of fun but it takes a lot of work months of planning and getting the videos scripted and recorded and edited edited so I can post them in a timely manner because it does take a long time to edit them and upload them because they're like usually hours so I am working on that I'm also working on next month's serial killer series which is going to be on Jeffrey Dahmer so that's gonna take a lot of time because I have two really good books that I'm reading Jeffrey Dahmer as well as some documentaries and things that I'm going to be watching in reference to his life and his crimes and it's just such a really crazy case to unpack there's so much to it so I want to make sure I do it justice it'll probably be three or maybe even four parts for a serial killer series next month on Jeffrey Dahmer thank you guys so much for being here with me thank you so much for understanding that I do need a couple of days off I have to clean my house I have to do yard work I have to work on Halloween and I have to work on serial killers next month and in Harlem inna and the serial killer series as well as the cult series take a lot of research because I want to be careful there people's lives and I don't want to report
