Good morning singers, I'm Cheryl Porter, the singer, and your vocal coach! It's been a long time since I wanted to make a series of videos to help you improve the vocal technique. Who already knows me, as a singer or as a coach, knows that for me, vocal technique and artistic expression are two things that go together. The technique should be at the service of our emotions, and not vice versa. So many of us have a lot to express, there is so much inside our soul that we would like to give, but we don't succeed with the little vocal technique we have. The complaint I hear most from singers is: «Cheryl, I feel stuck!» and considering that the music and our voice are right here precisely to allow us to convey our emotions, there is nothing more sad. I see a lot of problems, of singers who have been studying for many years, still with problems they should have faced and solved at the beginning of their journey. And when I point out a certain problem, a singer often answers me «Yes, I know!» But then, if you say you know, why do you still have that problem?!? The fact is that you are doing wrong exercises, maybe the wrong way, or exercises that are too easy, exercises that do not help you to resolve that particular problem and to grow. It is clear that if you continue to do the same exercises for a long time, and you don't notice any improvements, there is something wrong. You can't expect to wear a mask and do «Brrr!» for 20 minutes or so, and believe that magically all your vocal problems will be solved. Because our technical improvement depends on the type of training we are doing. So welcome to this "Cheryl Porter Vocal Workout" series, where I will give you some vocal exercises, sometimes quite difficult, to help you solve specific problems chosen from those I know to be more frequent. So, singers, I wish you good work! Exercise 1 Connection of vowels Change of register Diaphragm control Voice agility First of all, for me, the vocal technique is fun, which means that our exercises should be FUN, too! This is an exercise I wrote, which connects the vowels, and works on register changes, on the diaphragm, and on vocal agility. It starts with {I E A O}, then involves the diaphragm {HA HA HA HA}, and ends with octave jumps and changes of register {U I U}. Let's begin! I - E - A - O HA - HA - HA - HA U - I - U Here you will find the complete version of the exercise: www.VocalCoaching.it/workout Come on! Divide the notes well, singers! Take a breath! Yup! You got it! It's fun! Divide the vowels well, please! NOT LIKE THIS... Now let's go back down. Close the phrase well, please! That's right, good! Let me hear that H in HA HA HA HA !!! All the work on the diaphragm! Come on! Vibrato! Almost done! Bravi! Good job singers, keep on with this exercise, I recommend you to divide well the notes, you need to hear every note detached from the previous one. Make a nice change of register on the octave jump, ending with a nice vibrato on the last note. All work must come from the diaphragm! Good job everyone! Bye! Here you will find the complete version of the exercise: www.VocalCoaching.it/workout
