Whassup singers, this is Cheryl Porter,
the singer, and your vocal coach! I hope you all are doing well
in this time of crisis. I hope you guys are taking care of
yourselves and being safe. Cuz it's a jungle out there, baby! Stay at home, stay safe and stay protected,
and more so protect everybody else in this world. We gotta stick together, that is the only way that we will be able to overcome this situation in the end. Today I have another vocal exercise for you guys. It's an exercise that I wrote to help us remember that it's not important that we just wash our hands. We have to keep washing for 20 seconds if
we wanna get our hands really clean. This exercise helps us to remember to wash
our hands for 20 seconds. It's a little song that we can sing while we are washing, to remember to keep our hands nice and clean. This is the coolest exercise, I absolutely love it! It drives me crazy, once you get it in your
head you can't get it out, so beware! The song goes like this, have a listen! I love it! With this exercise, we are working on vocal agility, you guys know I'm a stickler for vocal agility. We are working on our intonation, the position
of our vowels. But then we have that cool riff in the end, the descending riff, that is the hardest part of this exercise. And you all have been writing, "Cheryl Porter, Oh my God, I love that number nineteen!" We're gonna break it down, so you guys can study it and do it well because this exercise is your next challenge! It starts like this: Put some vibrato on that five! Then you've got that "scoop" going up on that eight. Then it goes: When you guys hear me singing it,
it may seem like it's really easy. But those intervals are tricky and it's really
tricky to sing them precisely. Then, it goes ahead and it goes: Here you can do a register change if you want to! You don't have to do it necessarily, but you
guys can do a register change here. And I personally need to do it. Put a little of Gospel on it!! Now, the coolest, hardest part of the song
is this next little riff on the nineteen! And it goes: We got a nice little pentatonic scale on there! You guys have been writing me emails and on Instagram. "Cheryl, how in the world do I do that nineteen?" And those are the notes, but the notes are
not the only important part. You gotta be able to sing those notes right
and fast! I love it! Now I'm telling you one of the things you guys gotta be careful of when you try to do these little riffs. If it's descending riff or ascending riff,
make sure that you got the vowel position stable. If you guys don't know what I'm talking about, take a look down at all of these videos I have on my channel! Look at the vowel position, because it's really important for you guys to work on the vowel position. A lot of you guys are trying to improve the vocal agility. But you will not be able to improve if you
do not have a good vowel placement. So, the reason why you can't do all these
"riffs & runs" is that you can't hold the vowels stable. You've got to find a stable position. It shouldn't be like this: Cuz it won't work! That's a big mistake! That "and twenty" is so sweet! Go, baby! These 20 seconds are longer than I thought! So, this is officially your next challenge, sweetheart! I can't wait to hear what you guys are gonna
do with this exercise. Make sure you tag me on Instagram (@cherylporterdiva), and pretty soon we will announce the winners. You guys stay safe! Stay home and God bless. Take care of yourselves! Bye, babies!
