hi I'm Alex arts bull and I've been buying and selling antiques since I was 9 years old from basements to scrap yards I'll look just about anywhere I can to find lost antiques and collectibles and sometimes I'll go big and buy everything with my wife and kids we run an antique shop in Edmonton Alberta Canada filled with some of the most unique items we can find I never know what's going to happen or who I'm going to meet this is our life this is our adventure and this is curiosity home honey [Music] good morning everyone and welcome to today's episode it's an antique emergency so I've got the ambulance with me when I say it's an emergency because I got a phone call maybe a week ago or so I hadn't checked my messages in the shop family inherited a property and they want it cleaned out why the emergency well I was told last night that they've already started loading all kinds of stuff into trucks to take to the garbage they're gonna take a whole bunch of stuff to the dump and from the sounds of it there might be some good collectibles and treasures in there that I might be able to save from having the scrap pile and hopefully Surprise them and let them know that they've got some value that they thought was trashed so follow along as I dig through barns and who knows what else today as I go visit a farm and dig through trash and outbuildings and find some cool treasure so let's head out to the country go on an adventure [Music] you one of the reasons that I like going to farm so much is that farmers generally don't throw a whole lot out if you've ever been to a farm out in the country they usually have a scrap pile or like what burn pile things don't make it to the landfill too too often especially if it might have a future use so for a farm like this that is being cleared out probably gonna find all sorts of neat things that were left there over the past who knows how long in fact some of my better finds like digging up eight giant porcelain advertising signs those came out of the dirt of a farm field say man I've got this beautiful billiard side and neon billiards sign that was in a farm field too you just never know because a farmer might have been using it for the metal or they thought they'd cut it down and use it for patching or who knows what but either way sometimes those exciting finds out here I'm gonna keep my fingers crossed I think I'm just about there so I'm gonna head down this I think we're getting off the highway in a dirt road country now but we're gonna head down there and go sue there's a scene and here I've got what looks like a bandit mask so I can wear that when I'm in the barns that were full of pigeons and in case I'm around this gentleman I want to make sure being somewhat safe have got gloves in my pocket right here so should be good to go oh good sign there's old trucks and tractors and buildings ah the lure of a nice spring morning in the country with little greeneries full of who knows what so this stuff was all destined for the scrap heap on Wednesday I think you said but look there's old oil cans there's a headlight display I'll be able to find some stuff out of your scrap pile for sure save it from the scrap heap now these little outbuildings look like they're mostly full of stuff that they'd deemed as being scrapped but I'm confident now that I've just learnt that they used to own a gas station that I might find some old oil cans or service station collectibles and those are always desirable from what I see in this pile here there's bits of old hay rakes machinery wire there's implements old tractor tires all kinds of stuff but I'm not seeing anything it's jumping out right now I'm gonna move on to the next building and see what's over there this wall here was covered in hubcaps started pulling them down you never know when you need a hubcap or some old oil cans and had a little surprise inside we had a little uh a little buddy right there inside one of the hubcaps he's probably not too happy with me for moving his house but he'll have to relocate I think actually the old GM grain trucks not too bad yeah but have you tried starting any of these okay well I could be an adventure then and oh yeah people a little salvaged wood especially planks like that and this building looks like it's uh it needs a hard wind blow in the other direction this one this is a 1960s tire sign someone's wrapped around a stovepipe I'm gonna see if I can dislodge that and get it out of there this guy right here that's off an old General Tire there's all kinds of stuff in here that's an old yard light all kinds of old doors these are more 1950s style pigeons have been in here like you said oh there's some older doors over there funny when you're looking for something like that you can't find it and when you need it you find it but pigeons have been in with it there's an old phone and stuff okay I might have to climb in here okay here's your old cowboy bathtub right there put that middle of your living room kids what the youngest kid would get the last bath that wouldn't build up any resentment over time yeah and that's a real old-time wheel changing machine some wrenches and stuff back here it's probably one of the first things it was dropped in I see a Texaco cabin to try and reach that okay well we've got an old banana seat bike two of them looks like a ton of bottles well oh and I see a Goodyear sign in rock over there okay I got to do some digging in here guys I see something says each purity maybe I trying to get over their purity flour maybe top shelf some old pickaxes that's like Wild West era stuff they're like grab one of those that's for hauling logs if you're building log cabins that's really early stuff this sheet is from a printing press all right for the 1950s or 60s some more old oil cans there's no one you're in a building like this there's gonna be something hitting underneath you just have to keep digging tractor tires pulled up most of those bottles probably grab a couple more things and then move on to the next building but there are some good finds [Applause] okay I'm back at my house now and what did I get well the car is completely packed full but it's nothing that I can take in the store right now because it's all dirty but there was a couple really great surprises I'm gonna get everything out of the driveway and I'll show you what the paul was from today today was a particularly big haul look at all this stuff we got the two vintage banana seat bicycles one's a boys frame and one's a girls frame with the drop down I like that stp racers edge sticker on it and they've got the Goodyear I guess is good your brand that's kind of neat actually so we've got those two bikes and being that that's goodyear branded that'll probably find a collector someone who collects oil and gas might even be interested in that bike we've got our stovepipe which I don't actually want the stovepipe itself I just wanted that General Tire sign off of it once that's flattened out that would have sat those two little spikes would go inside of a tire sometimes and it would sit inside a showroom so that's a tire display sign not in the best shape but still in that condition once it's flattened out probably at least a hundred bucks or so is it's a porcelain enamel sign for the other boxes well I haven't gone through this one yet I'll come back to that there's tons and tons of bottles why did I buy bottles some can be more rare than others this for instance this capital beverage bottle that is our Alberta Legislature on the bottle this is made here in Edmonton once this is cleaned up that's probably about a 10 to 12 dollar bottle to a collector so when you start to add up on average some of these are maybe $5 to $10 each look at this Vermillion beverages never even seen that that could be a 30 $40 bottle to the right person so some very rare interesting bottles in here there's got to be about 100 bottles so that's probably five or six hundred dollars just in bottles the cowboy bathtub galvanized good condition needs cleaning that's a few hundred bucks on its own the old miners pickaxes and what I thought was a purity flour sign is in fact purity oats I've not had one like that so it's a purity oats porcelain enamel sign that says better porridge on it that's probably about a 350 Canadian sign somewhere around there we've got the tongue saw Auto lamp box probably $150 that was saved right from the scrap pile all kinds of different oil cans hubcaps and they're probably worth a little bit more now that there's bats not included unless you have a mosquito problem then you might pay more for the bats but by far the best thing that I got out of this whole ordeal so far was this this is a gasoline globe 15 inch steel frame maple leaf gasoline and is complete with both sides it's a hundred percent complete uncracked good condition very very rare piece here in Canada you'd never see that in the United States that's dates from the 1940s and it's just astounding to find something like that hidden in the side of a granary they had it wired onto the wall lucky me that I saved it that will go to a collector here in town likely really really good piece actually as I look over the bikes they're both good year brand bicycles kids are out playing and dad is gonna start cleaning off some of the stuff with garden hose but before I do I needed to come back to this box because didn't go through happy pop that was not as old that is glass grapefruit flavored crush north phone PMT how gross that is nobody's gonna want that in that condition this all needs to be cleaned off thoroughly before that ever goes to somebody's house old trophies from the 1960s in a really big piggy bank actually it's kind of heavy it's got some change in that bowl I wonder how old the changes I have to open that up is there anything in this one no I guess that's just an ornament port radiant curling bonspiel compliments of Atlas Copco Canada so somebody must have done some curling in their day that explains all these curling awards and trophies in here and the crate itself is actually kind of cool weird apples curious to know what type of coins are in this piggy bank I shook shook the coins out of the back of the bowl I didn't break this on purpose that just kind of came off but either way we've got some silver dimes and most of these are from the 1960s you always tell right away cuz the Queen has a ponytail looks like 1964 some kid was packing all their coins in here almost every cent any hairs from the 50s or 60s so we'll keep those aside there's one a little bit older with King George on it that's fun fun to find some old coins people go metal detecting and you'd hope to find that many coins metal detecting and I found a whole bunch inside of a barn that's the way it goes sometimes [Music] this Goodyear sign had to come back it's a really cool piece it would have been where you had your hoses and belts hung on the problem was I had to take part of the barn with me because it was stuck on there but that's okay I'm ready to take it off if only I had something to wash all these bottles with wait a minute I've got a bathtub right here if it still holds water I'll put some soap in and use that to clean some of the stuff up you guess it pays to buy a bathtub when you see one [Music] so that's its it got some of the better bottles watched up there's like 450 bottles that's a lot of bottles I didn't realize I bought that much but a really good haul today clearly finding the old gasoline pump globe was a big bonus and apparently it's quite a rare one to the thing you're probably wondering is if I'm done for the day then why am i back in the car well that's because the date isn't completely over I have a customer and no it's not bottle bob who's interested in like 80% of the stuff I bought back there so with any luck it about an hour's time I'll have an empty car and I'll have some money back in my pocket and some really good inventory for the store that's how you got to do it hey thanks for watching guys don't forget to subscribe if you haven't already and we'll see y'all soon bye for now [Music] you
