it has been a struggle that season for Cincinnati they already are five and a half games back of the st. Louis Cardinals a cold chilly night the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati Ohio ken griffey jr. the player of the decade in the 1990s only one home run to start this season one in the month of April with Al hrabosky I'm Dan mcLaughlin welcome to the broadcast booth here at the Great American Ballpark and if this team the Cincinnati Reds are going to do anything they've got four very good outfielders but ken griffey jr. has got to be in the lineup every day it's got to be healthy and he's got to be producing the power numbers just haven't been there well they haven't been there but who's to say he's not going to go on and tear and get multiple home run games in a row but you know one thing I heard some people say they got to get him out of the two spot and get him into a familiar power or RBI slot something he's been accustomed to all his career Cardinals have Chris Carpenter on the mound tonight he has 4 & 1 on the young season back-to-back starts have been outstanding and those struggles may continue in our Ford key matchup jr. against the Cardinals right-hander well you see jr. in the most advanced without a home run against carpenter he said 20 at-bats and that's good news because Chris this year it's allowed a 400 average to left-handed swingers right-handers were banging about 186 so he's gonna have to be sharp tonight he's gonna have to have that downward plane get a lot of ground balls in for Cincinnati Eric Milton is their starter a surprise signing in the offseason to bring this Lefty to the Queen City we're in Cincinnati the Great American Ballpark a little different look for Tony's lineup tonight Larry Walker is out and Scott Rolen as well well you can see Walker being out with a left turn on the mound but Scott Rolen has an upper back problem muscle spasm it happened yesterday is it back to the second at-bat against John Smoltz but when you in the heat of the battle it didn't really it bothered him but not enough to take him out of the game but when he woke up today it was a problem so at third base it'll be John Mabry tonight in right field so Taguchi for st. Louis there's a look at Larry Walker the Cardinals right fielder on the bench tonight having some fun with the gang along which got rolling cards and Red's coming up now on DVD so Tucci I got a see this week during the season December January February March it's everyday I just go just forward as you come in scoop it up and in one motion throw to first base learn the secrets of success on MLB superstars show you their game posted by Jenny Finn [Music] hi I'm Larry Woodward make sure you join Bob Richardson myself for the Bass Pro Shops hunting and fishery port seen at 10 p.m. every Thursday night during the Midwest Sports report right here on Fox Sports where top anglers compete for the right to be crowned world champion Sundays on FSN for the first time in idle history Fox reality beyond reality all the time Network takes you backstage for a little extra a little American Bible extra someone were crying backs it was really sad we pick up with a boating left off and hear what they have to say what it's the whole idle experience as much reality goes behind the scenes every week this is incredible American Idol extra a Fox reality original flip encore performances all weekend Fox college sports has the recipe for the ultimate college reunion we start with over 800 live NC double-a events [Music] click the packs and big 12 and more toss in news from around the n-c-double-a and garnished with the hottest coaches show us this is the place where knowledge never ends two wooded Fox college sports call one eight seven seven to get FCS you're watching FSN Midwest Boyd Cardinals fans come first baseball on FSN Midwest is brought to you by Budweiser bright crisp clean pure the king of beers by auto tire for straight-talking great service you want to go to auto tire buy steak in cinque reel steak steak burgers and real milk milkshakes serve 24 hours a day at stake in Ching and by Southwest Airlines friendly non-stop service all across the country Southwest Airlines a symbol of freedom proud is filing in here at the Great American Ballpark let's meet Tony LaRussa's lineup tonight for game number one [Applause] [Applause] nicely done by a producer my killing the Southwest Airlines starting lineup for Tony LaRussa's book Stein - Gucci boo holes and Sanders there you see Edmunds Grudzielanek Mabry Molina and carpenter 11 of the 13 position players at this ballpark hitting nearly 300 against the Cincinnati Reds and in particular Albert Pujols has put up some monster numbers as a visiting player Eric Milton is the pitcher for Cincinnati the tall left-hander signed as a free agent got a three-year deal 25 million bucks a lot of people run sure if this was the right signing he gives up a lot of home runs and this is a home run ballpark this actually fits pretty well here it's on the road where he's on one and has knee RA at 12 it's about 3:30 here those numbers brought to you by Advance Auto Parts a strike to David Eckstein a cold night here in Cincinnati to talk about the home runs that Milton allows most in the National League last year and he's leading that department this year and a 1-1 pitch Eckstein a swing and a Miss these two know each other from their days in the American League Milton with Minnesota next and of course with Anaheim I just can't say the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in just as a roll off my tongue it doesn't sound right the ball outside to the Cardinals shortstop who's hitting 268 one of the criticisms for Milton is he throws too many strikes he's always around the plate sometimes you flatten out on some of his pitches and those the ones that are hit hard but that was for any pitcher to to is fouled back in here's David Eckstein with two strikes again battling off a two strike pitch was in the hole 1 & 2 and got it even fights it off again he's gonna see a lot of pitches more pitches you see the more chance you'll get a mistake what can you do with it and a chance to knock out the starter as well get the pitch count up there good piece of hitting opposite field hit for Eckstein and the leadoff man is aboard here in the first Dave Maile defensively they've been salad so far this year Junior multiple Gold Glove Award winner it's brought to you by Auto tire done Junior and Willie mopane in the outfield Joe Randa rich Aurilia DeAngelo Jimenez and Sean Casey on the infield and Jason LaRue is the catcher tonight for the Cincinnati Reds and here's so Taguchi to a very fine start hitting 371 homer and seven RBIs Larry Walker is in the dugout tonight against this left-hander so Taguchi gets the start and he's over three in his career against this left-hander batting 429 in his five starts with six RBIs Scott Rolen also out of the lineup as we talked about rolling an upper back problem act considered to be serious and could be available to pinch-hit tonight changeup to Taguchi is taken for a ball outside the third baseman randa's even with the bag as Jose Oquendo flashes the sign at third-base coach it is a count of one ball and one strike Chuey night late arriving crowd and not much atmosphere right now how about no atmosphere two balls and a strike on to Gucci who signed a one-year contract with the Cardinals for five hundred and fifty thousand dollars did not want to go back to Japan wanted to play at the highest level and he was talking at spring training kind of create a little bit of a buzz and the fact that he feels at some point he's running out of time but at some point he'd like to be an everyday player that would this outfield he won't be but guys are getting up there an agent to Gooch he's not a young kid anymore either 35 but I think the one thing that soul understands that he has vastly improved since he's come over from Japan but he also understands he's not capable of starting with the Cardinals regular outfield and he chose not to go elsewhere but to stay here in st. Louis see if they want to start the runner here in the first they do not and a swing and a Miss is to Gucci chased a ball a few times you see him expand the strike zone and chase a pitch out of outside there we were at the Great American Ballpark for these five everyday players John Mabry you can consider a guy that's had success here not many plate appearances but the man at the plate Albert Pujols look at all those home runs eight and a 355 average I'm at a 12 game hitting streak 400 average during that time 2450 with three home runs couple years ago on a Sunday afternoon he put one on top of the building at centerfield laces this wanted to write a hotshot the right to paint yet can't hit it any harder but hit it right at the right fielder sometimes Milton will get a get ahead breaking ball then he has a heart a harder curveball to put you away working on a changeup also working on the sinker because he has a lot of his fastballs are up out over the plate a graphic also showed the long ball for Rolen Edmonds Sanders six home runs a piece here at the Great American Ballpark Reggie's hitting just 210 began his career with the Cincinnati Reds he takes a ball low the cleanup man tonight is Reggie Sanders Eric originally started with the Yankees put a good trade where Yankees got Chuck Knoblauch and Minnesota got milkman became an all-star with him but Christian guzmán Brian Buchanan and Guzman now the shortstop for Washington Jim Bowden the former GM with the Reds now with Washington who decide his contract to remain the full-time general manager signed him in the offseason along with Vinny Castilla and tried to upgrade the Expos now the Nationals and played in a tough division you and I both agree that it's probably the toughest in the National League just because of the pitching for me when you look at what Atlanta can throw at you and obviously Florida as well - upper tier teams in the National League East Madison Washington Philadelphia are all trying to say that they can compete there and boom took a whole bunch of old Cincinnati guys to be assistants form including Barry Larkin Terry Larkin jose cardenal was a real two balls and no strikes with two outs in a runner at first it's David Eckstein good rip there by Reggie Sanders Cardinals start tonight three and a half games up on Chicago Milwaukee's played pretty good baseball as of late edging closer to the 500 mark that four and a half games out Houston five Cincinnati five and a half in Pittsburgh in the cellar seven games back now he was 7 to 3 at home but they're 3 and 11 on the road it just got swept by Milwaukee over the weekend inside of Reggie Sanders Milton rarely does is throw inside you would think that with the Cardinals powerful bat to try and work there a little bit more but frequently when a guy is not accustomed to go inside they don't go far enough inside and that produces a lot more hard hit balls infielders are back on their heels a slow worker especially with runners on is the left-hander Eric Milton Sanders at the gap with three balls and a strike and Reggie pops it up foul territory Casey the first baseman wants it he has it the Cardinals strand a man in their half of the first two there's no score from Cincinnati [Music] looking for the best seats in the house for the Cardinals inaugural season at the new Busch Stadium then visit STL Cardinals calm and click on the brine seat club where you can safely and securely purchase great seats held by season ticket holders how about taking in a game from Cardinals club seats behind home plate maybe field box seats right behind the dugout or the first rows of the bleachers seats in all price categories can be posted just log on to STL Cardinals comm and view the prime seats available for each game the Cardinals prime seat Club your online connection to the best seats in the house attention st. Sean Casey are in the first one the mopane is the cleanup man than done Jill Randa rich Aurilia Jason the roux and Eric Milton batting 9th for the Reds and on the mound for the Cardinals what a start he's off to right-hander Chris Carpenter a record of 4 and 1 his numbers brought to you by Rico now very good numbers and he's an outstanding pitcher he's one on one lifetime with the iorry just under 2 in Cincinnati remember he lost that tough complete game one nothing game to Aaron who rang last season here at Great American Ballpark will see Harang tomorrow diving stop knocked down by Grudzielanek from his seat he got him good play by Mike Griggs ilanic stayed right with it and it was long run into the hole between first and second and the ball kind of took a little hop might even hit him in the face but stays near him and then from the seat of his pants throws over to Albert and another play at the other end as Albert scoops it out of the dirt seems to be automatic doesn't it with poo holes and those scoops he has very soft hands and he's got a panic he doesn't you don't see him reach out and try and compound he just let the ball come to it ken griffey jr. deep in the box looks at a strike the centerfielder tonight for the Reds just one home run in April 1 on the season hitting 244 nine RBIs but the fact that he's even out there is nothing short of a miracle he went through a surgery where they completely detached the hamstring from the bone and had to screw it back on and for him to be playing at a high level in the major leagues is something else very nice interview with you partner and mr. Griffey but I think the national media may weigh too much about his slow start in the power numbers little squibber carpenter bare hands and retires griffey now you go back to last season there was four players that had one home run in the month of April just like Griffey did this year and wound up with 30-plus would surprise me to see him do that at all let's take a look at the Cardinals defense bronzy by Auto Tire Sanders Edmonds and Taguchi in the outfield Mabry's the third baseman is first started third this year next on at short grits Alanna cats second Albert Pujols at first and Melina's behind the plate here's Sean Casey with two down and nobody on and the shift is on for the mayor he hits the ball on the infield he will pull it but outfield is basically straight away the piece hitting by Sean Casey even if Eckstein is in his normal spot I don't think he gets to that he'll probably hit too hard it's 11 game hitting streak for John Casey you know he started to heat it up carpenter this guy is hard to defend that ball kind of drifts over the middle of the plate so you can't see a shortstop out there because the shortstop is behind second base when I guess you can skim where the only John Mabry the third baseman playing on the left side of the infield but well hit probably would have gone through even at normal shortstop down will they mow paint it tied with Adam Dunn for the team lead in home runs with six third and RBIs with 12 can play all three outfield positions as tremendous power curve ball and a strike it's at a quad problem of late to me it's been set out a few games got authorization to play yesterday but they usually managers will give them one more day just absolutely crushing left-handed pitching but don't make a mistake to him he has hit the longest home run this ballpark 498 feet you and I hang around the cage a lot during batting practice down on the field and this guy is a specimen physically he is huge he's produced an extra-base hit in each of his first nine starts and all last season don't play in the National League he had an extra-base hit and nine straight starts last year and he's already done it at his first nine start count of a ball and two strikes on Pena curveball carpenter outside in the dirt and it's 2 & 2 carpenter record of 4 & 1 the RA is just over 4 he had that one bad start that's been at this season it was a loss to the Philadelphia Phillies he pitched into the 4th of that game outside of that he has been terrific he's had a complete game it's seven to two-thirds last time out and strikes out Pena caught him looking for his first strikeout tonight the red strand a man Cardinals Edmonds Grudzielanek and Mabry comin up [Music] [Applause] call today and get your next notebook from Dell home of America's favorite notebooks get this Inspiron notebook with an Intel Celeron M processor and 15.4 inch display for only $4.99 after mail-in rebate it's the perfect balance of mobility price and productivity it's more than just a notebook it's a Dell [Music] without bursts in idle history Fox reality beyond reality all the time network takes you backstage for a little extra mobile America we pick up with a boating left off and hear what they have to say lightly it's the whole idle experience as much reality goes behind the scenes every week this is incredible American Idol extra a box reality original clip encore performances all weekend Fox college sports has the recipe for the ultimate college reunion we start with over 800 live NC double-a favorite conferences click the Pakistani big 12 and more toss it news from around the n-c-double-a [Applause] with the hottest coach shows this is the place where knowledge never ends he wooded fox college sports got one eighty seventy seven to get FCS you're watching FS in Midwest boy Cardinals fans come first all bosses and CEOs love what this promo has to say if you're looking for a great excuse to get out of the office check out the Cardinals fan specials on select weekday games upper terrace reserved seats are just five dollars the next fan special is Thursday May twelfth the Cardinals will host the Dodgers number to call is four to one 2400 or visit STL Cardinals dot-com for tickets want to play some hooky come on down in the ballpark we'd love to have you all the bean counters are writing those checks right now and all the employees off uh-huh Jack Donovan you know he's got all our Fox employees signed up for that plan heading down to the ballpark down there with their clients carpenter fouls it off the catcher's mask no balls and two strikes want to wish best wishes and good luck to jim Woodcock formerly up the st. Louis Blues who's moving on after a number of years I think he was either seven or eight with st. Louis we ground ball to second base DeAngelo Jimenez puts away carpenter for the first out Jim loved the Blues and I know he still does but trying some different things with his business endeavors so good luck to Jim top of the order here's David Eckstein is single to the opposite field his first time up leadoff man taking his time from the on-deck circle to get in the box giving Chris Carpenter a break just the little things inside the game out sure carpenter running down the line give him a little time to take a breather as crucial with just one out but next ein takes a ball little high went to David's base it to the opposite field and you got Milton who pitches frequently on the outside part of the plate Eckstein has an on-base percentage in this leadoff spot the order of 375 not too shabby chokes up on the bat leans out over the plate takes a curve ball up and away 2 & 1 trying to get the emails going here al I'm working on it see my my computer's working great I already got a whole lot hex tied pops it up into shallow right center field DeAngelo Jimenez makes the play for out number two we turn to our this date baseball history which is brought to you by Snooks with two outs and nobody on will wait so Taguchi to dig in and here you go here it is Cubs pitcher hippo Vaughn and Reds pitcher Fred Tony throw no-hitters for nine innings Tony got the win and a ten ending no-hitter 1917 you remember that out yes I do vividly pitch count selection no I that boy I forgot about just remember the names and the history that was made that day Harvey haddock said at 12 anymore no-hitter was a perfect game boy I lost it I think 13 now back off the bat up so Taguchi in the hole nothing in to see that other day the post-dispatch where they had some of the great pitching matchups had Warren Spahn just bonny matchup against but went 16 and he's both pitchers were in like 16 19 16 or 17 innings one of the guys at 220 plus pitches no problem back then pitch counts what give us a make they all end up with surgeries now anyway follow two strikes on Taguchi it's that part about it you're right yeah I mean majority guys it seems like if they're gonna play or pitch a long time in the league you're gonna have some type of surgery their honor I think some some organization is starting to think it's almost better to get the atomic John surgery over with early Matt Morris course had Tommy John surgery now they take better care of the pitchers today than they ever did in the past but either you pitched or you went home the 3-2 pitch Taguchi pops it up right side here the Reds dugout in how to play about two rows back on the winding banks of the Ohio River the Great American Ballpark that much of a crowd on this cold night nobody at the beach it's not supposed to be like this it's May 2nd supposed to be warm shining be nice when the Cardinals return home but so Taguchi and a deep left field and it's wonder that the Cardinals he turned that around in a hurry how about Soze power his second home run out of the year his 8th RBI in limited duty and it's one to nothing Cardinals on a 3-2 pitch he unloads they're built who doesn't walk many so I'll challenge you doesn't think that he can hit one out and that's the 11th home run hit against milk second four so he stands as he moved to three Cardinal starters have given up 12 home runs on the season and milk now has given up 11 that was a rope and now here's Albert pools holes lined to right right at Willy Moe paid his first time up over one average at 3:26 for fool holes good riff by the Cardinal slugger all of those teammates are just absolutely thrilled when he does something like that he is one of it and they all protect him and they all care about him so much don't anybody have their way with him he's smart and told you guy so he can handle himself outside two pools so Taguchi two-out homer entry struck out back in the first playing right field tonight Walker on the bench the 2-1 watch you out here up the middle and a base hit for pool holes now the hard hit ball off the bat of Albert Pujols he's 1 for 2 we've seen game hitting streak for Albert that slow delivery motion is out away from him that's gonna come right back at you maybe try to get a skate safe look like more he's trying to avoid it would have broken an ankle try to get all the way to the backside of any kind let me let me think better or cleat added you know the heel Reggie Sanders is about to as his average is dipped to 206 the first last date back-to-back hits the home run had the base hit and strike one on Reggie Reggie popped out foul territory Sean Casey's first time up he's looking for more hits for 1500 in his career one double for 300 [Music] no balls and a strike on Reggie Sanders inside think about the evolution from being so overmatched when Taguchi got here in 2002 - really a significant bench player for the Cardinals in 2005 and at the end of last year to learning the differences between Japanese baseball and American baseball 1-1 pitch in the dirt two balls and one strike god sanders never that first spring training when you really showed no no physical abilities of pulling the ball everything was just feeling for it and he told me no one spoke to him and he said in Japan when the major doesn't speak to you you were doing a good job and everybody was kind of saying well if you want to want to forget about this contract go on back but he really got her buyer his perseverance once he was being sent down he they kind of informed me but what he needed to do and that's what was kind of surprising to him because nobody said anything but once they told him he worked went to work and built up his upper body and has made himself a very very valuable bench player the people forget he was actually sent to double-a he struggled at triple-a then went down to double-a and when the Cardinals went to postseason play and the offseason was there he decided it was best for him as Sanders hits it sharply to short nice play but Taguchi decided to go to the Arizona League and work on his craft and here he is in 2005 making a difference his second home run of the season on a 3-2 pitch in it's 1 to nothing Carlos [Music] now on DVD throw the cheese I gotta see this three times a week during the season December January February March it's everyday see how quick I just go just forward as you come in scoop it up and in one motion throw to first base learn the secrets of success on MLB superstar show you their game hosted by Jennie Finch at a department store you can get a big and tall suit for four hundred and seventy five dollars kmg has big and tall suits that look just as good for less than a quarter of that at KNG you'll find incredible savings on a wide variety of men's and women's extended size fashions cagey fashion superstore for men for women for less I'd like to cash a check for $20 no look I'll cooperate you know I just want to cash a check look I've got kids [Music] portion of Cardinal baseball on FSN Midwest is brought to you by Advance Auto Parts we're ready in advance by a plaque ask about it at work and by Rico how well do you print copy scan fax how well do you share so Taguchi second home run is given the Cardinals a lead as we start playing the bottom of the third eight nine and the orders do up in the top of the order and the first pitch is strike to Jason the rule seems like you give Chris Carpenter one run lead or just one run might be all you need he's been that good as of late trying to get his fifth victory of the season and the beauty in there for a strike with a breaking ball and it's nothing into good 12 to 6 breaking ball then he just pounds the goal part of the strike zone got the ability to get inside like that and ties up LaRue his second strikeout tonight three pitches and a strikeout for Chris Carpenter see two curveballs in the net tailing action on that pitch you know on your hands at a cold night that's a great pitch got a cutter they go away from the right-handed batters in on the left-handers changeup four-seam fastball to ceiling and here's Eric Milton the pitcher looking at a strike he's over nine this season what I found to be interesting in a big swing and a Miss by Milton is the second time through and then the third time through in the order how Carpenter is able because of having four pitches and having command of all four to really mix it up so guy sees a curveball curveball curveball first time up maybe he's gonna get a steady diet of fast Falls next time up and then the cutter he's able to have command pinpoint command with all his pitches makes it difficult for a batter to eliminate one or two pitches if you can throw them all four strikes and on full-size at play curveball and his strikeout of Milton that's number three and second in the inning Cardinal signed Chris Carpenter to an extension two years thirteen million dollars Dave Duncan was a happy man you know that see what the Cardinals er a is on the road this year fantastic all the way through - eleven - twelve - twelve of road games they're allowing just four home runs and a 211 batting average home is paying average against they lead the major leagues with that road er a though they lost the last two games in the series in Atlanta they still pitched breathe there they are three of them we're ball one strike DeAngelo Jimenez the second baseman the leadoff man first time up he grounded a second curveball misses up and away two and one Mena's is hitting 203 on the season change speeds with the curveball does the same there to see all four starters frequently you see them together and another ground ball to the second baseman grins ilanic twice now Jimenez is routed to second and we played three Edmonds Grudzielanek and Mabry coming up for st. play-by-play coverage as Edmonds as a big swing and a Miss he struck out his first time up start playing here in the top of the fourth the Cardinals behind a so to Gucci homerun lead it one to nothing Cardinals off to this very good start 15 wins in the month of April 15 and 8 you see the starters comparison and yet this team really hasn't gotten it going offensively over the weekend it was a little better into 94 but as a team they come in hitting just 253 they've been on the steady climb not a lot run support for the starters but they haven't needed as much be a period of time where the office will be carrying such a workload and pitching won't kind of hit a rough spot the two one hits the outside corner admins didn't like it at Montague the home plate umpire 29 years of Major League served a service for Edie Montague his father was a big league player and then a scout right over the Cardinal dugout into the seats looked like it caught a fan down there so everybody's alright you know it Montagu his father signed one player for the New York San Francisco Giants pretty prominent player centerfielder centerfield swing and a Miss by Edmonds sign a player of this caliber you will always have a job everyone that's Willie Mays Edmonds strikes out for the second time it's four on the night for Milton there's grits allotting who struck out swinging back in the second inning two games in progress tonight rather light scheduled Pittsburgh and Houston will get things going a little later tonight the National League Central Chicago not playing neither is Milwaukee as Grudzielanek is way out in front for strike one and Chicago got some bad news concerning Kerry Wood he's out at least three more weeks with that sore shoulder shoulder there that it came out of his game against Houston and then Houston roughed up Mark Prior following day popped up and that will find the seats out of play no balls two strikes jobs have been without borovsky they thought Chad Fox would be their guy he got hurt the Troy Hawkins has not been able to be a reliable closure in Chicago closers have gone down everywhere Jason Isringhausen out Armando Benitez is out with a hamstring problem could miss the entire season Grudzielanek we ground ball to second this counterpart will put him away with a wide throw good job by Casey to stay with it and there's two outs the air mopane you placed on the disabled list closer for florida marlins motive Guillermo Mota guy throws gas triple digits consistently two outs nobody on and a strike to John Mabry playing third base tonight he walked back of a second valuable guy always stays ready and Mabry hits this one in to right-center Griffey won't get there it's in the gap and Mabry is thinking extra bases easily he trots in a second you can see right there Griffey didn't get a great jump then he didn't take a great round to the ball once he so I couldn't get to it he kind of let up [Music] two out double for Jan Mabry all up a little bit but John does a nice job to stay on top of it hit that line drive finish it off use those rips wrists to produce the line drive here's Molina he pulls it just foul but a foot outside the third base line second time that Mayberry's been aboard to go along with the devil he's walked in Molina flied to right his first time up Yankees in Tampa Bay just underway that's in the second inning Toronto leading Baltimore 2 to nothing top of the third Boston on top of Detroit 3 to 2 that's at the top of the third no balls and a strike on Molina Cardinals have Chris Carpenter going tonight and then tomorrow Jason Marquis against Erin hooray and Jason will be part of our pregame show tomorrow with Al hrabosky and Mark Boulder on Wednesday night it's Brandon Clawson the 1-1 pitch line shot look what I found play is made by rich Aurilia olena can't buy any luck right now he's up for to gargle strain of man they bled for the first four innings now on DVD throw the cheese I gotta see this Louis to buddy Jerry Clinton riding that luxurious transportation here's the o1 visa hitting again by Sean Casey to go to the opposite field shift was on for him to pull it he just stuck the bat out and throw it into left field it'd be a perfect night for carpenter if he didn't face Sean Casey see the tailing action await but you get an exceptional hitter spraying the ball around put it in play that's why I mean see a lot of shifts on left-handed batters but I don't know if it works against Casey because he hits the ball to all fields Willie mopane he will dig in with one out and a runner at first Adam Dunn is on deck there's some power in this lineup over the Reds dugout into the seats everybody's alright Bing is struck out looking his lone plate appearance he's over one another player that started out with the Yankees sign is like a teenager and wasn't it this big but had a lot of raw talent rubber gun magical the way he's making that ball disappear and Montague knows all about that he has a hobby of being a very very good magician but a lot of time working with the our vets the hospital says boy you just carving a mother this pitch what you say is nasty look at this thing it's on the black and then BOOM see you later wow that's just a good cutter cutter or a slider that you know just a tight rotation they're just as simple now really breaking only a couple inches but it appears as a fastball and then it just has that little diving action trying to hit it with a round bat it's almost impossible and it's thrown beyond your reach and breaking down off the strike zone here's Adam Dunn hit one to the track his first time up and hit it a mile I was what you'd call a lamb a Jurlique pop-up would you yes it was in some curveball that his strike as this crowd has gotten a little restless behind home plate done did like the call carpenters struck out five here in the first four innings his last out he's tied his career-high with 12 strikeouts pool halls playing behind the runner and done just gets a piece and it looks like these guys are just lost it there against carpenter agreed yes well I mean he's just he's pitching he's putting on a clinic change his speech throwing on both sides of the plate it's fun when you're back in the rocking chair whatever you put down you know he can execute he wants the fastball away top the middle and a base hit on a no to mistake a rare mistake by carpenter ball up a little bit you've got a got a hitter that is you know as a big man that's got a great reach didn't have the diving axe setup away and then the ball was just up and away and he just reaches for it but he hits it up the middle roll over on that it's a nice little ground ball the second but up the middle of the opposite field it's got a chance to find a hit there's Randa carpenter robbed him of a bass in his first time up her ball and a strike again ahead the county get ahead breaking ball then he can just start working you over remember you get so many ground balls some of them will find a hole but more times a night Oh fine leather a ball and a strike on Randa popped up right side out of play and the cat now 1 & 2 talked about this first pitch strikes 11 times against the 15 hitters he's seen tonight he's gotten ahead take a hitter and make him become defensive and expand his zone can he put him away the curveball you bet and randon 'when he strikes out the side and gave up two base hits in the inning that is six strikeouts for Chris Carpenter through four innings [Music] think those mall stores are really gonna have your size come on you deserve better regular stores are for average guys why waste your time get the king-sized catalog the big and tall specialists they've got the styles colors and sizes that fit your life your budget and most importantly you you won't find a bigger range of sizes big sizes up to 10 XL tall sizes up to 7 XL we're talking easy to wear classic styles that'll still look good years from now the bottom line King size has got them they fit and they're comfortable every item is fully guaranteed and best of all you don't have to pay mall prices with the king size catalog you get more for less in big and tall sizes so get the catalog call the number on the bottom of your screen want it now king size tv.com is always open either way it's worth your while you'll even get a special offer with your first order so call the number on the bottom of your screen or go to king size tv.com you know those rating icons you see on TV there's one made for everybody they work with your televisions parental controls give you control over which programs your family enjoys so you can choose between tv-ma which is perfect to Rona - Louis leads it we say it's a Hardee's hot pitch we show you one well we got a bunch because of Chris Carpenter he has been terrific and this is brought to you by a party's lots of strikeouts so far he's got six after four innings of play you know it's one common denominator of these one time you've seen any in the middle that way is when he freezes somebody on a curveball but everything else has been on both sides of plate up and down I mean he's in a groove and on a cold night like this you can really take advantage of hitters who almost afraid to swing specially on a sinker just the sting of the bat of that pitcher because he's so active he's the one that stays nice and warm and in command down of no balls and a strike that one is well hit into right field at the wall and is it caught or is it going it looks like it's over the wall and it's gone and it's a home run for rich Aurilia and the game is tied everybody hesitant here at the ballpark couldn't tell whether or not so Taguchi and pulled it back in just over his glove into the seats Aurelius third home run this season and his tenth RBI frustrating here last year but he's done a lot of damage kids pictures trickling when he was in the National League with the Giants so goes up gets over the wall but it just beyond his reach Julio from 2000 from 99 1999 another effort on Taguchi now an effort that comes up empty it really led nationally shortstops both home runs and RBIs for those three consecutive seasons first time in shortstop did that since Kenton concepción in 78 to 81 all just kept on carrying days sure did it was well struck but it just seemed my cue ball just kept on drifting you see him he's that new he hit it well but it wasn't totally convinced he's looking for an umpire to give him the authorization to circle the bases count on LaRue is one ball and two strikes struck out swinging first time up throws the bat at it carpenter gets out of the way of the bat and a foul wall it'll stay 1 & 2 that's staying alive right there just get the piece and carpenters carved up LaRue so far he's made him look foolish in his first at-bat then the route took a couple of pitches in this event now LaRue struggled on the road trip he was just three for 19 here's a one-two pitch two and two Aurelius Homer traveled an estimated 359 feet curve balls see you later strikeout number seven he's racking them up let's turn to the Aflac trivia question which Cardinal hit five home runs in a doubleheader on this date back in 1954 I have a pretty good idea and here is Eric Milton I've got this nickname John Mabry cheating it even with the bag at third it takes a pretty good cut up there he struck out back in the third got a one ball one strike swing level and maybe the pitcher will hit your back how shallow Edmonds is at center back to carpenter he's got it he'll flip over to pool holes for the second out two down top of the order here's DeAngelo Jimenez Mena's oh four two two groundouts two second Cardinals in the midst of a bunch of games in a row without a day off 21 travel home on Wednesday night and then we'll welcome San Diego to town at a ground ball for Grudzielanek he's been busy with Jimenez and he's over three five innings in the books cool hole Sanders and Edmunds coming up a great tasting barbecue needs pork the other white meat the Missouri and Illinois pork producers five home runs at a doubleheader of the state back in 1954 stay in the man I'm not mistaken Jack buck was just called up to broadcast as like his first big-league games came up from Rochester and he sub saw that and says this happened every every day at the big leagues there's wall jacket e scouting cards GM behind home plate go from stand the man to a guy that's trying to become a legend in this game and that's Albert Pujols this pool holes is twice hit the ball hard flied to right and he singled up the middle and the third is their better hitter right now in the game of baseball and Albert make a case for a rod well Ichiro or something like that but I think when you put in the fact that Albert the average production numbers I don't think you'd get an argument if you ever used a helper does the standard right there's a 1-1 pitch outside Manny Ramirez when he gets on his toward streaks one of the best right-handed hitters in baseball deep in the boxes albert pujols you're gonna try to go inside on him and that's a mistake he lines it at the left-center field Griffey on the move and he won't get it he'd off double for Albert Pujols and you bring up a very good point in Milton does not pitch inside very often but with today's the Cardinals as your opponent you know he's gonna try that more often tonight than in the past you do it against Albert and the Cardinals you're asking for trouble because you probably cannot consistently get in there so you're gonna leave the ball middle half and that ball was up out over the plate surprising coming into this action Albert was only batting two 78748 een against left-handed pitching that's strike two Sanders has popped out foul territory to Sean Casey 5 for 18 submitted 7 for 21 now he's also grounded to short it's one one where the six the Cardinals about hit the Reds five for Sanders trying to stay above the 200 mark averages dip to 203 outfield is deep and straightaway or two and he startled against right-handed pitching this year but left Anders he's done much better a 308 average a lot of his power numbers from the last few years have come against left-handed pitching majority of his home run says he is a word with our home plate umpire biltman finally set and a no to pitch as they set up on the outside corner to Reggie Sanders reggie high in the air right field will stay in the ballpark it will paint him for the track he's got a great arm the pool holes will tag up easily from second to third so Reggie does the job as far as it dancing the runner and an RBI opportunity now for Jim Edmonds what's on tap here's a look at some upcoming baseball on FSN tomorrow at 5:30 the Cardinals and the Reds will hook up and again at 5 o'clock we'll have our Cardinals monthly magazine from hotshot Sports Bar and Grill at 5:00 5:30 Cardinals tonight six o'clock our first pitch Jason Marquis and Erin Harang and pulled the infield in but Jimmy's got to get this runner in productive out from Reggie getting Albert to third base with only one out Edmonds struck out twice swinging then you said a good arm but not his best throw I wonder why the second baseman wasn't lined up a lot of teams will have that to man relay in case you overthrow the first second man the shortstop was there to backup but ball and strike on Edmonds she was hitting 264 with five home runs and 15 RBIs infield is in outfield is straightaway and fairly deep for Edmonds count is even one ball one strike Edmonson check swing did not go around Jim Ned is so good hitting the ball the opposite field so they play the outfield straightaway they got the infield in and yet he must not be picking up the breaking ball from Milton because a few times he was kind of it out front it's pitch number 92 for Milton ball again and strike was right there in the wheelhouse it wasn't that far away from him and as I said Jimmy may not picking up the spin sometimes game like that starts out like this with two strikeouts and where he has just a tough tough day but this one of those chances you to to pitch Edmonds bad at-bat there as he strikes out that's a big big out for Eric Milton as Edmonds has struck out three times you're right al he just does not look comfortable as far as picking up the ball a lot of times with Jim starts out with a couple strikeouts then you see him hand up his for Milton's got three of his five strikeouts against Jim and you know that's a with one out there that's the time where you I really want to make sure you hit made contact and hit that fly ball but he came up empty and this could be a big two-out hit for Grudzielanek the pitch is a strike the third baseman Randa is near the line and even with the bag the outfield is straightaway Lana is a gap hitter left center to right-center pitch misses jest in he is struck out swinging back in the second and grounded out to second over two for mark tonight Cardinals and Reds have played in a series already this year that was at Busch just a brief two game set and they split those two games won 14 games into red last year in that series Dave Miley made a move that we may never ever see again and that was walking the bases loaded to get to Albert Pujols to end the game but it made sense you know it was just one of those two situations he you know setting up a potential DoublePlay you can only have to get one hitter up if you don't do that you've got to get two hitters out it worked sure did and the one-two pitch bought off by Grudzielanek and I think it's fair to say that Albert wasn't swinging as well as he is now big difference yeah now you sit there and you go either way you just gotta throw your hands out say yeah I'm not in a very good spot pitch number 98 getting set to come here to Grudzielanek his time was called Dave Miley graduated high school in this area back in 1980 signed as a catcher in the Reds organization advanced as far as triple-a Denver he was saying the prior to the game he got future nasty boys Rob Dibble and norm Charlton Rob devil part of the best damn sports show period seen nightly at 10:30 here on FSN ell yes it is pulled to Randa a couple of steps to his right side arms it and drop by KC in the run scores he just kind of flooded the ball over there didn't come over the top with it all the way across the diamond and it cost him I'm talking about an exceptional defensive player in Brandon and very uncharacteristic ball hit sharply at plenty of time sets himself and instead of right over the top kind of slung it over there three quarters and the ball will sail on you in case he couldn't come up with it at the other end show him you put the ball in play and something good can happen Cardinals got a run they lead 2-1 here's John Mabry one for two on base twice tonight with a walk in a devil a costly air by Jill Randa the Reds came in to st. Louis they were the only team in baseball without an error about the last night that was the beginning of that nine day road trip where they went two and seven now they've made 15 errors they made an error every game since that at least warns and it's two and hell it's time for John to pile on can't give a good team like the Cardinals more than three outs if you can just tack on some more unearned runs that just beat you down pitch number 101 from building Red's at the bottom of the six will have ken griffey jr. Sean Casey and Willie mopane yeah the Cardinals have never trail to this game grabbed it early one to nothing lead on a sewed to Gucci home run and after the Rande air they now lead it two to one that's a strike on the outside corner as buildest trying to pick up his six the strikeout tonight you look at the leads that the Cardinal base runners have had at first base and they're not very big and you kind of wait to see if Milton would throw over and he doesn't and reminds me of Lou Brock felt like the toughest guy for him to steal off was Don Gullett because he never threw the first base Don Gullett right here in Cincinnati that flyball caught by Griffey the Cardinals have stranded five but because of the air they've renamed the lead it's 2-1 say Louis now on DVD though the cheese I gotta see this three times a week during the season December January February March it's every day you see how quick I just go just forward as you come in scoop it up and in one motion throw to first base learn the secrets of success on MLB superstar show you their game posted by Jennie Finch remember when we only had three premium topping steak burgers check it out two new premium topping steak burgers remember when we only had three premium topping steak burgers yeah barbecue and ranch crashed the thick bacon party it's the new barbecue bacon and ranch premium topping steak burger one of two new premium topping steak burgers for a total of five keeping track Steak N Shake famous for steak burgers Joe Buck here inviting you to my second annual all-star softball game benefiting st. Louis Children's Hospital come cheer for your favorite team of all-stars in GMC Stadium in sashe on Saturday May 6th purchase tickets at the GMC stadium box office discount coupons are available at all Johnny Mac's locations or buy tickets online at gateway Grizzlies dot-com join me and help hit a homerun for the kids at Children's Hospital you're watching the FS in Midwest the word Cardinals fans come first or should have Cardinal baseball on FSN midwest is brought to you by jack in the box jack invites you to come in and experience ciabatta it's all about the bread and by your local chrysler jeep dealers [Music] kate griffey jr. looks at a ball bottom of the sixth the Cardinals leading two to one Chris Carpenter a big story tonight with seven strikeouts junior takes a ball and it's two and oh he's over two he's grounded back to carpenter he's also struck out we'll see junior here and Sean Casey and Willie Moe pea room into left center for the former player of the decade of the 1990s Ken Griffey junior junior and a center Edmonds going back near the track near the wall and it is off the top of the wall he thinks it's out and that ball is in live play safe the umpire ran out the second base umpire they're gonna have an argument they think it went over the yellow line to the naked eye I thought it did too I agree with you but the umpire down there hustled out there and immediately said that that ball was still in play and not over the line Grif you got it Oh to fastball and he smoked it to dead central and it looked like it went over that 404 sign and came back they're going to get together the umpires umpires have told me and a line drive and that's what that was a monstrous line drive that when you run out there your eyes are bouncing it's better to get stationary where you can see better so we'll see it if it's reversed I think it was a home run in a replay of it if you can tell and it's over the wall as far as I'm concerned did it unless it hit on top maybe this is a better definitive view it's a home run you and home run hit over initially I thought that son I thought it was gone and then you know rarely is something like that because they didn't hit that far but he come all the way back into the playing field and you wonder why it took checked up and backed up now they say it's a home run it's the right call so the home run for ken griffey jr. is tied it up to this being for Cincinnati the other by richer really and the game is tied at two-two and here comes Tony LaRussa well he's at his say yeah he's gonna come out and get a clarification they might say something but you've got to admire the umpires for getting it right jack mccann the florida managers been trying to get the media on a crusade to get instant replay in the game of baseball for instances like this that balls it strikes but if you can tell that's definitely a homerun get the call right or plays that are definitely one way or another at first base or second with tags or force plays yeah but the beauty of baseball is is that the human element I agree with you and you know I know he's trying to say it wouldn't be a few times where it wouldn't slow up the game but I think it would still have that effect how many challengers get Mike March to come and help Tony out with this job we don't need that he'll be done by the first inning and I think we are in agreement that the umpires gotta run [Music] be one pitch and he'd see a yellow flag flying out of the field with mic parts in the dugout the ventriloquist's mic parts earshot Casey I talked to Mike the other day said he's feeling great his back is feeling better than it has in years you cannot say the same on a cold night no I can you hurts I bet Casey's 2 for 2 with a pair of singles 405 feet the estimated distance on griffeys homerun that's four four four oh four to dead center that's one estimation I might actually agree with that all the other ones that we've seen and heard about that one makes sense another opposite field hit for Sean Casey back-to-back hits to start the sixth inning for the Reds he got it off came in with a ten game hitting streak and obviously three for three he's extended that solo home runs those things happen Griffey earned his on a 2o pitch that was up out over the plate and he hit it dead center field now really is just an opposite field home run there just like the wind took it just kept on carrying had to be well struck here's where the mopane Ian he's come up empty tonight two strikeouts fastball that is strike [Applause] hard to believe this is Edmunds six year in st. Louis and griffeys sixth season with the Reds his first year was outstanding at 40 home runs a hundred and eighteen RBIs but ever since then it's been injuries and a steady decline for junior Edna's is averaged 147 games and junior probably half that one season he had 53 back in 2003 at 70 the year before vanie a wild swing 1 & 2 is the gap where's Ricky the former number one overall pick back in 1987 and Willie mo Pena highly touted prospect as well Barbara would love a strikeout or a double play another angle here the griffey homerun that angle looks like the top of the wall almost I think it's just hitting beyond it but yeah I mean that's the case you have to hit on the top of wall or it went over and I think went over but that you can see how tough it would be to determine whether it went over it or if it hit off the top the white on the yellow doesn't really this isn't distinguished enough to really tell it times in Ricci Edmonds argued and that's to me the tell-tale sign that it got over the wall well Joel Goldberg is out there Joel is it a homerun or not I think it was although there was a thump like you hit the wall it looked like from my vantage point over a right-field that it went right off at the top of the yellow and came right back on certainly all the Reds fans thought it was a home run out here well you've got a great seat up there - Joel now if it hits on top and comes back in then it's not a home run and a swing and a Miss by Pena so you saw it hit off the top of the wall Joel you think coming out here for this nice feature a new feature the ballpark they've got the standings up here and you got the Cardinals all the way on top the banner they update these every day you know things are going bad for your team what a fan in the top row can touch this banner that's the Pirates they're in last place Thank You Joel he's got better eyes than I do if he could see a home run from that vantage point but he's not running he's behind the wall he's got a pretty decent look at it he says it hit off the top of the wall so we've got to believe Joel Goldberg are you with zlz on our payroll yes we're going with Joel okay according to Joel Goldberg the Cardinals being robbed tonight Kinnear does he take bribes about his integrity go ahead Joel integrity eyes I got my contacts in tonight so I think I'm all right but you guys are making a mistake trusting me Thank You Joel he's got it if he's gonna make it Stephen like that you've got to be confident in your statement you've got to say you know what that definitely was not a home run I think yeah I remember right it was I think it was there's Adam Dunn won't break him in right whoa you got it Joel's doing a great job with us and we're lucky to have him that's ball four to done so we have seen a home run a single a strikeout of Payne yep and on four pitches a walk to Adam Dunn it's first and second with just one out here comes Dave Duncan gives us time to tell you that this copyrighted telecast is presented by authority of the st. Louis Cardinals LLC so the walked it done and it brings in Joe random who certainly is a double play candidate here out and I'm sure Dave Duncan is just trying to calm down is right-hander is looking to get his fifth win of the season tonight Gardner has a 5 to 1 strikeout to walk ratio I was his first walk of the year got thirty five strikeouts and seven walks and a straight gone Joe random Ryan Wagner a right-hander and the Wrights bullpen is getting loose pitch count for carpenter is at 85 Rando for to the curveball the check swing did he go the joel have a good look at that one very lane said no he's doing one that counts on that one for his base umpire Brandis smoked a line drive that Carver had caught on his hip and he struck out last time huh 1-1 pitch they've gotten away with that breaking ball one and two right now you like to see him throw that good sinker and get it double play ground ball and get out of it this carpenter is team-leading 6 start tonight forth career start against the Reds one in one and his three starts against Cincinnati check swing he held up two and two zra coming into this game against the Reds under two at one point nine nine good pitch doesn't get the call on the inside corner snaps his glove at the ball after was thrown back by Molina now it's three two count you want to do with the runners here out right you've got a ground ball strike out tight pitcher who throws extremely well they are not going and the pitch is hit to pool holes weakly he shuffles and Eckstein is off the bag and the bases are loaded tough play for pool holes he elected to shuffle it and as he did it pulled Eckstein off the bag at second pitch by pitch is brought to you by your mid-america Chevrolet dealers cut her down the way breaking ball curveball there they'd get the call man a hanging breaking ball he fouls come back with that breaking ball off the side they misses with a fastball right there and then they get some reach in for a ball just a little weak ground ball pull just too far away from second base for that backhanded shovel and the throw was off the line and pulls Eckstein off the bag so everybody's safe and with one out the bases are loaded for earlier who last time up at a home run he's one for two he's also grounded to third the corners will play a little bit in that's Mabry at third and Pujols at first outfield straightaway for Aurelia the first pitch misses from carpenter bases loaded it's an error on pools it's too far away for that back and shovel pad you see how awkward it was for him and he couldn't keep it on line broken bat admins will back up gets himself in a position to throw and he'll bring it into third base knocked down nicely by Mabry as the Run will score great job by John Mabry to make sure that ball stayed in front used his body as Edmonds I think made the wise decision going to third instead of home you're right about that Dad and you know it's a tough play for Mabry but it's he does what he has to do you've got to knock that ball you can try to get behind you for the advance a strong throw by Edmonds and there you see him just going to they're blocking it with this let's go back to the shovel pass here was Eckstein on the bag awfully close again he tried to keep that toe on as long as he could and now it's the rule down the right-field line and it's a fair ball with two outs one run is in that's done they're gonna wave the next man home to the plate safe at the plate RBI double for LaRue and the Reds have played it for this inning on seven hits in this game and they lead it 5-2 to a jam shot it looked like off the bat of LaRue after he struck out his first two times picks up a hit he's 1 for 3 and picks up 2 RBIs 5-2 Reds [Applause] and that get a head breaking ball and but it stayed up a little bit ended up about belt I here's the throw home and a good slide around the tag and throw that left leg out there and he just comes around this the leg reaches out with his left hand and touches home plate ahead of the tag and just like that it's a 5-2 game and we'll have a pinch-hitter Jacob Cruz their top pinch-hitter Cruz has been doing a very good job in this pinch-hitting Department of late first pitch is a strength to cruise who's hitting 333 on the season and two RBIs still looking for his first home run LaRue is the runner at second base whether broken back Grudzielanek avoids the bat goes to pool holes and the red synod eight men to the plate and they pick up four they've got their first lead of the night [Music] the SEVIS Cardinals crew kids club is starting to be a big hit again this year as a member you get two tickets to Cardinals games autograph party on September 2nd a free kid's meal at Chevy's fresh Mac's Cardinals lunch bag even a very cool one-of-a-kind Cardinals duffel bag plus more all for just a twenty dollar membership register visiting nearest Chevy's fresh Mac's call three one four three four five ninety six hundred a log on to come attention st. Wagner out can bring it as again he throws very very hard he got roughed up and got the loss and Saturday but almost unhittable prior to that time Saturday May 7th the Cardinals take on the Padres in 115 all fans receive a coupon for free admission to Six Flags for children 48 inches in under can't be with us at the ballpark join us on FSN Midwest that'll be one of our rare Saturday afternoon telecasts than lab for you and that will be one of them this Saturday's the Padres and woody Williams come to town there's a base hit for Molina extra bases he's around first as he turns on that fastball and a leadoff double and here come the Cardinals is the switch-hitting abraham Nunez will pitch it for Chris Carpenter his night is through Molina is 1 for 3 on the night Molina hit this ball very hard is the fastball kind of running in on him it turns on it it's it down into the left-field corner look at the different odd shapes as done didn't you know kind of played it conservatively you don't run in there and then have it get in that little trough and go around you so he played it properly it was double and he held Molina to it too bad carpenter six innings five runs seven hits he walked one he struck out eight and those six innings of work and he allowed the two home runs unearned runs in there Nunez hard-hit ball in the right field Molina will be held up at third base we know about the throwing arm of pain yet he would have gunned him down easily so Nunez and Molina have gone back to back a double in a single and now we've got the top of the order in David Eckstein and the Cardinals got something cooking area one of the easiest decisions for Oquendo to stop the slow footed Molina Payne is standing there with his ball in hand there's momentum coming towards the plate nobody out kind of hold Molina out there Dongo it out to talk to Ryan Wagner who got roughed up gave up four earned runs and one inning on Saturday absorbed the loss but he had been very good prior to that top it snapped an over nine that skit for Abraham Nunez with that base hit into right field tomorrow at five we'll begin our Cardinals coverage all kinds of Cardinals coverage beginning tomorrow night five o'clock tune into FSN midwest we present our monthly edition of Cardinals magazine from hotshot Sports Bar and Grille this month we'll take a closer look at grades Bob Gibson and Albert Pujols Cardinals magazine tomorrow at 5 on the emphasis in Midwest that's at five and then Cardinals tonight with Joel at 5:30 6 o'clock the Cardinals and the Reds Kent Mercker and David weathers a couple veterans warming up getting ready in a hurry as X tide hits this one at a deep left field done his back he'll make the play tagging up a lead up and the lead is cut to 5 to 3 Eckstein with his fifth RBI 95 pitches thrown by a carpenter tonight and now we've got so Taguchi as dater remember the Cardinals have Scott Rolen on that bench Lachlan Larry Walker those two did not start Tabuchi is Homer tonight he's lined out to left and he struck out swinging in the first he's playing right field tonight third baseman random few steps away from the bag anticipating a possible bunt from Taguchi with his good speed at the plate Cardinals could do something here with Nunez decent speed at first base to Gucci a contact hitter that guy they can hit two behind a runner want to put a hit-and-run on especially with the hard throwing right-hander like Wagner Cardinals was seven hits tonight the red was seven they played it for at the bottom of the 6th took a lead 5-2 Cardinals have got one back now it's 5-3 the Taguchi taps it foul one ball one strike Albert Pujols is on deck see if the Cardinals want to do it here with the count of one ball one strike he has a little bigger lead over there at first room into left center for Taguchi so a swimming abyss the Cardinals have a left-hander throwing in the bullpen karmak galley is throwing in their bullpen weathers and Mercker for the Reds throw over to first where'sa Nunez had that collision at second base in April against Cincinnati fractured rib in that collision did not go on the DL he's the runner at first and it's lined up the middle caught by the shortstop and back to first goes Nunez who's playing near the bag anyway towards the middle and rich Aurilia came up with the soft liner off the bat of Taguchi one swing of the bat who holes could tie it up Albert three hard-hit balls tonight doubled and scored last time up singled up the middle and lined out to right to down first pitch to pools strength average now at 3:44 pools with a two for three night 342 average against right-handed pitching outfield very deep for Albert blocked by LaRue went to the cradles a favor thereby keeping the runner at first right a wild pitch the first base open I talk Nunez don't run a ball and a strike on pools swings through the pitch 1 & 2 Lynnette this ballpark with his two hits tonight his average will be above the 355 career mark he had coming into play tonight eight home runs third among the posing players Berkman and Jenkins have nine full stings the bat out little squibber get fouled it won't LaRue has it in fair territory Albert is done and so are the Cardinals here at the top of the seventh they get a run back the RBI by Eckstein it's 5-3 the Kia Optima April special get 2500 cash back on Optima a quality production about sports and an exclusive presentation of FSN Midwest former teammates here Kent Mercker and Jim Edmonds will square up Mercker has been around for seems like forever he was called up for just two games back in 1989 with Atlanta originally selected by the Braves in the first round overall and 5th picked in that draft of 86 Austin Kearns part of the double switch he's in right for Pena and here's Mercker starter early in his career late he's been very good as a left-handed specialist had won his most productive years last year for the Reds for the Cubs Edmonds Greeks up with a base hit Sanders will stop at second base and the first two have reached first hit for Edmonds and it brings in Prince Avani having a ball off the bat of Edmonds hit pool Holtz Reggie didn't was going to be anywhere near this one good start here to the Cardinals 8 Denny the Reds are 7 and over when leading after seven innings but this could be a time where they could change that step Merkers signed a two-year deal in the offseason to be with Cincinnati it's now first in second grids ilanic DoublePlay ball six [Applause] Sanders advances to third base and the batter will be John Mabry quite a career here for Kent mercury remember back in 94 he threw a no-hitter of course he had a life-threatening situation back in 2000 so on the disabled list following a brain aneurysm angels at that time modern medical miracle that he's playing again at the major league level ball one to Mabry right now it'd be a nice time for his first home run of the season he's walked he's doubled and he's flied to Center bad numbers against Burke four for ten back to Mercker he does the job as he flips it over to Casey at first [Applause] bottom of the eighth is coming up good work by Kent Mercker [Music] finally in the reds our game recap brought to you by Bank of America the official Bank a baseball the Cardinals with a couple of starters on the bench so as Mabry and Taguchi and third and right respectively and they're just trying to stay warm in that dugout so Taguchi started things off with a home run Chris Carpenter certainly a story tonight especially early on but how about this is it a home run or not off the top of the wall and back to live action that definitely is a home run as we add to our game recap that's brought to you by Bank of America done with the home run in the right field to greet Carmen Kelly and now Cincinnati has opened up a three run that lead a minute talking about how the Cardinal pitching staff has given up very few home runs well three of them here tonight breaking ball but didn't keep it away from this powerfully-built left-hander left a middle half in and he left it into the right-field stands his seventh over the years 16 RBIs and Cardinals back to three runs down Danny graves getting loose in the bullpen for Cincinnati the closer for the Reds just wonder if lien install in there a little bit trying to get some right hand of relief help for the Cardinals Joe ran to the hitter scored last inning reached on a tear he struck out he's lined out first pitch is strike by Kali in the second ending of work carpenters six innings five runs allowed on seven hits he did strike out eight Janelle warming up for the Cardinals bullpen couple the place tonight if not gone the Cardinals way or there'd be that home run by Griffey or that close play at second base on a force play looked like in which now removals took it shoveled it towards the shortstop David Eckstein and the umpire said he was off the bag off the bat of this bat Aranda extra bases again poor random around first on his way to second fred's can do some damage there pretty good offensive team Kali gave up a hit last him ain't got a big DoublePlay but their Tony's not gonna let him get through this frame he'll ask for Jimmy tournelle to come in and rescue it so the 27 year old right-hander Jimmy Journal will come in we saw him Saturday night in Atlanta that's it Gonzalez thursday 10:30 FSN midwest jimmy Janelle allowed the walk-off home run by Raul Mondesi on Saturday night in Atlanta came in and saw modesty and he unloaded what you build on those last Thursday and then he had two thirds of scoreless baseball we escaped a bases loaded one out jam in the 8th against Milwaukee you can ask as to get back out on the mound as quick as possible redeem yourself and keep this a three-run game it's gonna be tough enough for the Cardinals to come back but don't give him any more rich Aurilia first pitch by Janel is upstairs hitting started with a solo home run by Adam Dunn off a Cali and a double by Randa down the left-field line back-to-back hits cally allowed three hits and he walked one because he was pitching into his second inning of work we have seen that from Jimmy Jenelle just a little bit effectively while this one up and in remember Saturday night it was one Batson screen and then one sent everybody home may not get real comfortable in the batter's box two balls no strikes the Roo on deck Aurelia has a pair of RBIs home run tonight one thing you can see about Jimmy journalist he's got a live fastball power arm out of the bullpen for st. Louis and what that means is that because at times you know he have his velocity he can get away with some pitches that are in the heart of the plate or a mistake location or something that doesn't throw as hard could not get away with the 2-1 inside again aurélia spent all those years with the San Francisco Giants had a couple of great years in the homerun department so off to Seattle they released him he finished up with San Diego last year and signed as a free agent with the Cincinnati Reds my early contract comes a 3-1 from Jimmy tournelle now San Francisco has turned it over to Omar Vizquel oldest team and the major leagues Metheny vasquel Grissom bonds JT snow Alfonso [Music] full count on Aurelia 30 well hit again into Center Edmonds going back he won't get it it's off-the-wall run will score easily that makes it a 7 to 3 game Barbie I double for a really a big night for in three RBIs for rich he said that three-year period when he was playing for the Giants he led nationally and RBIs from shortstop position so he gotta throw a strike throws a strike but straight and right off the wall strong kinda looks like it's riding a little bit but in high fastball and he just takes you a ride to Central now it's LaRue's turn Janel misses outside falls behind again the roux and RBI double and really the biggest hit in this game that little looping double down the right-field line to plate to close the book on Carmen Kali he allows a couple of runs and the room fouls it back one ball one strike no activity in the st. Louis bullpen this is Jenelle's job to get out of the same Austin Kearns who was part of a double switch is waiting on deck a foul-tip butter is Aurilia he retreats back the second base top of the seventh Detroit leading Boston five to three to two between Toronto and Baltimore in the bottom of the seventh that's behind Pedro Martinez just underway with the Phillies New York leading Tampa Bay bottom of the seven three to eight to nothing Houston on top of Pittsburgh that's in the bottom of the fifth in San Francisco in Arizona just underway the rue is swinging the Miss strikeout for Janelle battle back and mid-90s fastball right by it good tailing action exploding it on the hands I find her nail to be pretty intriguing I'll just for the fact that once he settles down with his arm and his natural ability it could be a very useful guy for the Cardinals this year just look at where he's come from Spring Training I thank you because the arm he was still on the 40-man roster but really not even thought of first time in a long time he's healthy he shows up and he also you get intrigued it because of his good live arm he flat out bringing till you do it here though she's still the prospect to suspect slider misses outside one ball one strike at Austin Kearns fan favorite here in Cincinnati not too far away he was born and raised in Lexington Kentucky terrific high school player made his debut in the majors back in 2002 and it's a ball and two strikes on Kearns they've got quite a rotation here with these outfielders Kearns have done and Griffey and Willie mopane yep it was talk of because of that three outfield positions and you got four guys going for him to try to make Kearns a third baseman they scrapped that idea when they signed ran did em that back-to-back strikeouts for Janelle allowing the devil he struck out the last two and that run was charged to Kelly breaking ball real key to him throws a good hard fastball but it's all about whether he can prove to people he can throw that slider for strikes give him something to think about other than the fastball top of the order the Angelo Jimenez one thing about Jenelle he doesn't allow you to get comfortable in the box we've seen it now on three different hitters where he's going up and in it's just kind of effectively wild and you kind of not sure where it's going but he'll at least lets it fly you know the difference of when we talked to start dying about Milton or sometimes he throws too many strikes so you can get real comfortable in the batter's box it's the opposite with Jim 1 1 pitch 2 & 1 it's very difficult but sometimes you look at the body language of Jordan L and it just doesn't present himself in that positive fashion where he's saying let me attack little squibber a swinging bunt or nell throws probably should have put it in his back pocket he slipped on the grass but nearly threw it away fools did a good job to come off the bag and not let it get down to that corner give them another run just a swinging bunt and there are at times when I say you put it in your pocket but watch where he slips here right leg went out and then look at how awkward not balanced so it didn't have a lot on the throw you don't have the accuracy and luckily he didn't hurt himself about the same that's how you hurt yourself trying to throw like that slipping and odd arm angle and action now it's junior to just joining us ken griffey jr. with a home run in the sixth replay looks like to me it hits the top of the wall joel is out there in right field he said it was over the wall I'm sure what he said he said both Melina's gonna come out and talk to it you know it's just you know if you've got a weapon power arm you go out there and you tell everybody that you're the best gunslinger in town don't look like you're timid Sheriff that's afraid to use the six gun runners at first and third and he started poor Janelle with a double off the wall by Aurelia that brought in Jill Randa closed the book on Kelly then he got back-to-back strikeouts Jason the ruined Austin Kearns a swinging bunt by Jimenez and now he faces one of the all-time best ken griffey jr. wasn't too long ago we were talking about jr. being the one that's gonna break hey Karin smart injuries or likely have taken that away and it looks like bonds would be the first one to do so but he's injured too that is the brain again as he reports on his website and not visiting with reporters his media friendly now he communicates [Music] in a way that they understand why got three balls in a strength Jr takes it inside it catches the corner Casey's on deck big night for Shawn four for four as interesting to me here what he throws as he thought thinking throw the fastball by him or did she try to think well you see Molina's trying to say shake off shake off and throw a fastball but he wanted him to think it's a breaking ball one thing to have a a fastball but you believe you can throw it by good fastball hitters this tier of sky reports would say you know good fastball hitter don't throw him a fastball so that's all I got and he hit a great one there comes a 3-2 pitch and junior it's a down the left-field line at his slicing foul so unfortunate since he has come over to the national league we have not seen the old Ken Griffey junior the junior that was healthy and running free and easy hitting for power because as a baseball fan you want to see you want to see it's just terrible to have somebody be injured as frequently as he has he's such a good guy good person good family man there's three consecutive fastballs maybe a more of a cutter there but as it has a picture these are the personal battles that you've really got to get up for you can't get up based more on the game's best the youngest of a all-century team another 3-2 pitch inside slider well here's another test for you two bases loaded in Sean Casey trying to make it a five for five perfect night all four hits have been singles what the heck is Dave Duncan saying out there Davis is also big on body language too and I think you know part of that just go out there but I mean he battled griffey and then when he got you know there was a lot of fast balls that he started to come in with his slider you could understand that trying to get him gold with the top but I think right now you say hey you gotta attack together this is work it's kids Casey doesn't not strike out a lot he can throw up he could just flare up and quail get some of the ugliest hits when you got to give him credit he's already had a five hit game because he sprays the ball around it just we can't walk anybody it's gotta go after Casey here with the bases loaded first pitch low Lopes on deck a single in the first a single in the fourth single to run scored in the sixth and another single the seventh for Sean Casey tonight average ad 316 with his forehead night stays away from that ain't if any now the Cardinal bullpen Molina really saying get the ball down but what floor is just throwing the bullpen but nerdy down by four you don't want to use anybody else it's tough enough to come back and a good hitter hitting with the count in his favor - no here it comes inside st. Louis and Chris Carpenter one nothing game both pitchers were complete games two balls in a strike is his crowds a bit Restless the cold night here in Cincinnati walked the leadoff man the 9th in the 6 run lead maybe the Cardinals could make a game this is inside their three balls at a strike is whether an owl weathers will take his time step off the pound and battery group next died on deck for Karen ooh Diaz [Applause] beep started well for st. Louis with a so to Gucci so the homerun the third Cardinals led at one point two to one but then fell behind is that's the second walk in the inning this one to Nunez [Music] but light play of the game Adam Dunn karmak galley came in and served that one up even then you thought that gardener still were gonna have a chance for runs eventually crossed there in the ninth inning they get a five run six run deficit we should play the game off the bat have done his seventh home run his 16th RBI I'm gonna make eat those words see next I'm always up there gonna work that count so he takes the first strike Cardinals are gonna come back in this game next I'd shoots it down the right-field line slicing foul and out of play if they don't go do it 12 all right Big Red Machine was they never quit until they turned off the lights and they didn't believe that they lost that round we'll get you get you tomorrow Cardinals have that same type of attitude games last year next I love the basin in the right field they'll hold the runners and the bases will be loaded and a pinch-hitter here to be Roger Cedeno back-to-back Watts base hit into right the second hit for Eckstein tonight to go along with an RBI and now it's Roger Cedeno and you've got Pujols on deck [Music] Cedeno is batting for Flores who's in the second spot the order double switch took to Gucci out of the game and moved Mabry to right field from third base 419 when facing right-handed pitcher straight too quickly are the Roger Sedeno ah no and two he's called out on strikes on an inside pitch [Applause] and it brings in Albert Pujols who holes could make this interesting rather see you know some extra base hits get several win and have still have some guys on that you listen time or that at home run is a rally killer then you have nobody on the basis and still need two more swing and a Miss on a breaking pitch from weathers two fools Alberta two four four night Danny Graves is warming up in the Reds bullpen if needed Oh on pitch two pools a check swing and it's one ball one strike as he held up now we're just lying to right singled doubled it scored a little squibber in front of the plate four four seven a home run against weathers 2 & 1 the count 20 pitches 10 strikes 10 balls who owns Luke's had a strike on the outside corner [Applause] okay hit the Grand Slam and then go ahead and start another rally let's start the other row big pitch here for weathers he does not want to go three and two on pools count even - and - Albert - short that's one Casey can't hold on and Molina stores [Applause] and you've got first in third only one out for Reggie Sanders it's a couple times now Casey has not been able to come up with that pick over at first base wasn't really a hard hit and saw that the throw was the shortstop was kind of in front where he had to throw it back behind the bag and then the second baseman had nothing on the throw the first short off Casey couldn't hold on nor RBI number 24 Albert base is still loaded maybe jim edmonds gonna be the big guy Reggie's got to do something yet he delivers with a single on the left-field Reggie with a two-hit night Nunez scores Edmonds will be the hitter and it's 9 to 5 probably see graves now that it is a RBI sitter in a safe situation and they've given the call to the partner to the Reds closer whether it's not happy but only has himself to blame he walked the first two that he saw gave up a single deck Stein struck out the next man then who holds it into a force play and Reggie Sanders the base head hi I'm Fred from there chief have you heard about the great wine deals in California about two buck chuck wine now dirt cheap and use your head Fred that's me are bringing truckloads of wine from California to you the brand name is scarlet rich but we call it thirty dime wine for $2.99 we say use your head because this is vintage Napa Valley wine and a truly dirt cheap price thank you be careful out there [Applause] [Applause] gonna eat your cheese paper more cheese on the burger more cheese on the paper the new quarter-pound double cheeseburger 2 for $3 at Hardee's the next best thing to a half pound thick burger FSN midwest is your home for Cardinals baseball and after a story 40 year history at old Busch Stadium it's only on FSN midwest that you'll get exclusive coverage of the ceremonies and pageantry leading up to the first pitch from 1 to 3 p.m. followed by the game presented in high definition today on FSN midwest not a saigon vietnam closer Danny graves for the Cincinnati Reds save opportunities he's been perfect this year 8 for 8 he had a sticky situation with the Cardinals in their lone victory against st. Louis this year at Busch Stadium and if you go back to last year he's had some shaky moments against the Cardinals and you're thinking positive you're thinking that Graves is out in that bullpen thing and the night is over ya gotta come in memory he was warming up when I was a three-run lead to start this inning when they exploded for four more runs then they sat him down and you're right Dan a lot of times their clothes are kind of shuts it off mentally and figures well cam out of this game now can he get it geared back up next pitch to Edmonds Edmonds down the right-field line it is hooking and it's going to be foul just out in front for strike one one ball one strike two outs two runners on the Cardinals trailing nine five here in the night they've plated two to cut the lead to four any graves it's kind of guy that hitters will take the challenge second baseman out on the outfield grass 1 1 pitch Edmonds in a deep right field that could be trouble at the track at the wall that it's gone a three-run homer for Edmonds and this came all of a sudden is a one-run lead unbelievable I was gonna make eat those words in that play of the game I'd be more than happy to not you're not through yet though 9:8 Reds lead with the Cardinals getting one house hanging breaking ball Jimmy with that uppercut it was no doubt about it and he said a few in this new ballpark such as seventh here he's taking away a lot of runs and now he hits his seventh home run against the Reds here in this new ballpark only three years old how frustrating was that ninth inning for the Cardinals that they allowed four runs curveball misses upstairs to grits ilanic who's got five in the ninth inning and they still need one more time it's allotting it's a foul out of play one ball one strike it was Marlon Anderson that had a dramatic pinch-hit home run a year ago off of Danny grapes at this ballpark to win it for st. Louis late in a game remember Reggie Sanders with a key hit against Danny graves last year through the whole left side Cardinals came back to win that game 2 & 1 the count this Grudzielanek stayed away from a tough pitch Mabry on deck not shot past KC and into the seat so grits ilanic goes to second and the Cardinals are a base hit away from tying this thing up and one swing away from regaining the lead Wow closer shuts down mentally Edmonds gets three this gives a more hope Casey you know as a hot hit ball but he couldn't knock it down he's getting the scoring position and Danny graves Marlon Anderson a left-handed hitter hit that home run Edmonds hits the three run home run a left-handed hitter and now the left hand swinging John Mabry he's got a chance to do it it was scored an error on Brazil Onix ball the first first pitch to Mabry in a deep center field that's got a chance it's gone Mabry has done it look at that they're going wild down there remarkable comeback tonight John Mabry with his first home run what timing by Mapes tonight a 2-run shot that dugout exploded down there and the Cardinals have a 10-9 lead 7 runs they have scored here in the 9th 7 runs but finally have a one-run lead they're waiting for the header Molina to come out here but you also you see the bench of Rupp team look at those guys they're all pawn but you also need 3 outs of the bottom of night get the victory and there's nothing wrong with Adnan [Applause] [Music] it's ten to nine Cardinals we started our telecast by taking you back to one year ago today in games that stand out from that season in 2004 on their way to 105 wins magical moments a well-pitched game against Chicago is that's going to be a nice play made by the second baseman and Casey for the fourth time tonight can't come up with it Wow this one scored a basehead but another time on casing one of the greatest guys our world but you know no one feels worse than he does now that's three on these pics that he's had and then the air here in the ninth as well they really didn't have you know he had more time to second baseman had more time to set himself with Molina running and now it's Nunez he is up for the second time tonight you wonder about Dave Miley and what's going on in his mind in that dugout they have allowed seven runs here in the ninth the veteran David weathers and then you bring in your closer one thing about this you know the Cardinals had the chance they've got to close it out in the ninth inning this is a Devorah lysing type game to the reds they do not come back and it's two balls and a strike on Nunez a remarkable game for the Cardinals favor he just had a feeling it that guy sure did again you know he got to heaven you knew that and then if you just keep on extending it Duda has little struck bun he may make this he is safe at first [Applause] and a base hit for Nunez third time he has been on base tonight that's five consecutive hits off the closer Danny graves we're back Lake top of the order playing so deep him and as tries to flip it up there but knew he is running hustling we see the LaRue trying to console and try to pump up his closer not Don going we'll come out and try to talk to him I mean these things happen sometimes but you know the one thing is you've got to just keep on battling one run the Reds could still come back from Dave Riley but this is what they've seen recently is a lot of sloppy play and all facets they got the offense today that they haven't gotten the defense and there's only two errors charging the Reds but there's a lot more that could have been tomorrow's getting loose in the bullpen the Cardinals have scored five runs with two outs five with two outs here in this ninth-inning they have not used Scott Rolen tonight they have not used Leary Walker this is the eighth hitter would to are right next time could give the cardinal some more insurance in the right field this should do it the Cardinals will strand two but they they score seven lists these pools mabry could be the hero tonight the Cardinals lead it by a run at four we believe that you should get more more power with the Ford f-150 it's 3:00 p.m. followed by the game presented in high definition today on FSN Midwest hi I'm Fred from Turkey have you heard about the great wine deals in California about two buck chuck wine now dirt cheap and use your head Fred that's me are bringing truckloads of wine from California to you the brand name is scarlet rich but we call it thirty dime wine for $2.99 we say use your head because this is vintage Napa Valley wine and a truly dirt cheap price thank you be careful out there just a regular night at the ballpark al that's it hoho yeah not much we went on to April 15 hits you know you just goes to tell you that you play the game hard for nine innings saying you'll take your chances but looks like an apparent defeat to all a sudden looks like one of those magical moments as you said we started out talking about on the open that Chicago game a year ago from today Scott Rolen had the big hit Matt Morris nine innings pitched and now tonight Chris Carpenter off the hook and Julian Tavarez into the ballgame for st. Louis this will be his 12th appearance Julian comes in here he picked up one save since the absence of is rayon housing and he's got a big burden right here to just go out there and put off this unbelievable comeback this is a kind of comeback game where you win this one and all sudden it sends you you know it just sends vibrations through that clubhouse you never worry you never panic when you're behind you always feel like you have the ability to come back two of the biggest pitches tonight which won't show up tomorrow if the Cardinals hold on was the last at-bat bite done done add what the bases loaded and Flores fell behind with Dunn and came back to strike him out you can't yeah I mean you just can't you know express what that is you know you you've got to come in and he faced one guy and struck him out and a fastball is in there for a strike to Jo Randa who's won four for a double two runs scored it'll be Randa rich Aurilia and then the catcher LaRue a game like this you just feel like you know you just can't wait to get out there and pitch and in this game to get in there and see the celebration you've got to take it one pitch at a time base hit into left tying run is on [Applause] and you've got a real yeah who is homer tonight has an RBI and the sack flied an RBI double as well we've got really got down on that pitch and went live it into left field now you saw I had so much movement that it caught a little came back a little bit too much set it down and away and came back to the middle of the plate give these Reds some credit there they know how demoralizing this could be 29 hits 19 runs three errors there's a man that is a double play candidate no doubt and Julian throws sinkers the bunt is down Molina goes to second the Canon oh he got him what a throw by Molina there's not many guys that make that play he may be struggling at the plate but that was an absolute cannon thrown by Molina also give some credit that the confidence that he shows to get the lead man but right down there it didn't get too far away from the heat coming up he knew exactly where he's going next time playing like a first baseman stretching out getting that ball right there get the lead man that is a big big play now it's LaRue one for four he's a double play candidate Kearns is on deck DoublePlay would end in a dramatic game tonight good go in favor of st. Louis and the rule is hit by the pitch see now the tying run is at second in scoring position that go-ahead run at first Tony's going to get breaking up you'd have to assume but maybe one of those reliever gets an out type of performances again but never easy a lot of wet though it's all worth it the batter will be curds this Burke came up with four runs I think was eight to nothing and now it's eight to four in the 8th day and I'm sure there's four runs it's Houston used to probably put their head down when they saw the cartons came back in this one while you miss Isringhausen there's no doubt about it Cardinals asking Tavares along with King to close games out primarily al Reyes another candidate down there st. Louis is used Cali Journal Flores and now Julian Tavarez can be a little misleading because a lot of those blown saves by the others come in the seventh eighth Denny come in and relieve [Applause] fern swings through it breaking ball Javaris for strike one Boston tonight is over one he struck out what a game well got me is that the the best played game but fans we've been seeing too many close games so we'll get a close game with a lot of run scores double play what ended one pitch from Tavares this is in sometimes when ferns is at the plate you see a pitch miss in it doesn't miss by that much despite his reaction because he's on the plate and leaning in it kind of leans across the plate and so he gets hit frequently and a lot of time by his own measure 1 for 9 against Julian one ball went straight two and one curds ahead in the country team getting loose in the bullpen [Applause] Rampal chance at a double-play x9 takes it himself double play the Cardinals win it what a win for st. Louis as they pour out of the dugout 10 to 9 the Cardinals win it with seven runs scored in the ninth inning and John Mabry the game-winning RBIs in the game-winning home run just incredible but that's what happens when you don't give up just keep on firing out there trying to think that you can do it so there was a lot of things that happen to get to this point but John Mabry after Evans's big blasts and then the base hit put a runner on base he has the winning blow there with a two-run shot his first home run of the season as Griffey just watched it sail away over the wall in center and the Cardinals win it they take Game one 10 9 lots to talk about the Midwest Sports report is coming up next pregame coverage tomorrow beginning at 5:00 so long for just a while it was only early May but the Cardinals seemed to send a message with that win that they were still the class of the NL Central Thursday night on FSN Midwest it's the final game in our countdown 206 and one of the greatest moments in playoff baseball history the Cardinals and Astros in Game five of the National League Championship Series thanks for watching
