now stop me if you've heard this one before you dang left IDEs you're so entitled you just want free stuff handed to you and you don't even want to work for it sound familiar of course it does if you're anywhere to the left of Paul Ryan's someone has said that to you and if you're not you've probably said it to someone else okay okay nerds you want to talk about entitlement let's talk about entitlement at the time of this recording Geoff bus baby Beezus has a net worth of about a hundred and fifteen billion u.s. dollars enough money that if it were put to judicious use it could end world hunger for about 3.5 years one in nine people in the world are undernourished right now and they could eat healthfully for almost four years on the money that one man personally owns think about how absurd that is really noodle it over every hungry person in the world fed for years from the wealth hoarded by just one man so how did he get this money well he helped to make a website a very good website mind you Amazon is useful lots of people use it I use it but it's not like he does everything at Amazon he doesn't deliver the packages he doesn't do customer support he doesn't develop the actual code of the website he certainly doesn't make the products being sold on Amazon point in fact the people doing most of those things often make sub poverty wages and work insanely long hours somehow no matter how profitable the company gets their compensation doesn't seem to skyrocket like Jeff's does want to know the real reason Jeff makes the big bucks he owns the infrastructure of Amazon and for that he has more money than anyone else on earth you could argue that the leadership jeff has put into Amazon as CEO was responsible for Amazon's aggressive to more like growth and maybe he is the business genius behind such strokes of brilliance as for example Amazon not paying a red cent in federal tax in 2017 like you and I are forced by law to do I mean that's only fair it's not like Amazon's entire business model is built on technology developed through public funding oh wait yes it was but okay it still takes a good business brain to figure out the you not paying taxes is profitable I wouldn't have thought of that maybe Jeff had the brain stroke to pressure workers into 80-hour workweeks maybe Jeff is is the brains behind Amazon in some broad wishy-washy sense but they doubt that he's put more elbow grease or ingenuity into managing the company than the army of middle managers he oversees I doubt his personal contribution is a thousand times that of any of his contemporaries but let's assume for the sake of argument that it is let's assume that Jeff is personally responsible for all of Amazon's growth and that all of his employees would not have jobs somewhere else if Amazon didn't exist even in one of the companies that Amazon put out of business let us assume that without his big big business brain nobody on earth would have thought to make a website where people can buy things well Amazon has about five hundred and forty thousand employees Wow that makes it the tenth largest job provider on earth mate that's a bit more than half a million people jeff has said by amassing his fortune as opposed to the eight hundred million people that wealth could feed for three and a half years now I don't know maybe the average Amazon employee works at Amazon for five thousand six hundred years and it all evens out but what seems more likely to me is that this investment in Jeff that society is forced to pay is what business nerds like to call a bad return on investment and it's not that I think that the B's man shouldn't be rewarded for creating a very fine website heck I use a lot of Amazon services and I'm practically married to my Kindle which I kiss each and every day I'm not saying what he's done hasn't helped make something useful convenient which does a lot of good for a lot of people and sure maybe invests lots of his money into projects that create more cool stuff maybe he gives a small percentage to charity and that small percentage is an enormous amount of money maybe he is truly the best and smartest person on the planet financially and his use of his fortune is more productive and whatever you or I or anyone else on earth would do with it that could be true it's possible I mean it's 1 in 7.5 billion odds but it's possible or maybe just maybe the smartest and most financially brilliant person on the planet is one of the people who didn't get to eat because our financial system prioritizes putting another zero on Geoff's bank statement maybe they would have produced something better than Geoff if they had the chance maybe one of the one in nine people who is food insecure right now could have been the next Jeff Bezos for the next Joseph Lister or Sir Isaac Newton if they'd only have the chance it really doesn't matter if you have the best brain on earth for Theoretical Physics medicine or computer programming if you never get to develop or even discover that aptitude because you spent your entire life toiling away in a sweatshop sold into sex slavery or slowly dying from starvation who knows what kind of technological marvels we could be living with right now if everyone on earth was fed housed and had access to education incidentally if you're asking yourself why you should have to fork over money to support other people that's why you would and have benefited from the support of other people even if only indirectly the more we support one another the greater the rewards we get collectively the reason all the best advances in history come from people whose basic needs have been met is because those are the only conditions which allow them to have time left over to advance things you can't figure out how to launch a rocket to Venus while you're wondering where your next meal comes from actually capitalism lifts people out of poverty so if you truly care about poor people you should support capitalism Oh does it because here we are it's the end of history and only neoliberal capitalism exists on the global stage is a major player and wouldn't you know it there's still a lot of poor people around but let's accept the premise that capitalism lifts people out of poverty for a moment even though it's absurd let's ignore obvious counter examples like the crushing debt imposed on Haiti by the IMF and World Bank why is anyone poorer in the first place why do they need to be lifted out of poverty we have everything we need to end poverty right now forever according to Oxfam billionaires alone added enough wealth in 2017 to end extreme poverty seven times over now sure some of that wealth might get parceled out to the poor and lift them out of poverty but we have more than enough resources to eliminate poverty right now we can eliminate it without you or I or anyone but the 2043 billionaires in the world even noticing a difference the only reason we don't is because we've chosen to base our entire economy on letting a few people have almost all of everything okay mr. hypocrite you made your video using things made by capitalism nothing is made by capitalism nothing is made by socialism nothing is made by feudalism monarchy or fascism no ideology can pick up a screwdriver this video was made using things built by workers and I want those workers to be compensated more fairly for that work that isn't hypocrisy that's gratitude you're describing corporatism or crony capitalism yes when I'm criticizing capitalism I'm always criticizing crony capitalism or corporatism because those are the only forms that capitalism can take so-called libertarians often complain that I'm not addressing the imaginary capitalism that they'd prefer where nothing bad ever happens well I don't criticize libertarian capitalism for the same reason that I criticize a country being run by hot dogs it wouldn't work and it can't happen as fun as it might be to make fun of it's called natural selection survival of the fittest Charles Darwin have you ever heard of them animals do compete for resources that's true but they also cooperate for resources they do not typically hoard insane amounts of resources while their kin Patriots starve and all intelligent animals have some sort of social structure that involves mutual aid consider the world's strongest ant alone he can be stepped on and crushed by a mere Danny DeVito but working together a colony a very dumb and we cants can defeat nature's greatest predator the mighty and fearsome goose so too are people stronger when they're working towards a common goal oh so everyone who uses Amazon is a bad person huh you bet you think you're better than everybody no I don't think you're a bad person if you use Amazon all consumption is unethical under capitalism but you still need to consume stuff to be alive it's not worth to buy it from Amazon than anywhere else I'm not trying to put monetizes it if that's you Congrats on your billions if it's anyone else get back to work time is money nobody deserves to be poor to be hungry to be left behind while the resources for everyone to live healthy and fulfilling lives languish in the bank accounts of a handful of rich mutants you know what else nobody deserves nobody deserves that billion dollars nobody not one person on God's green earth not Jeff Bezos not Elon Musk not Oprah Winfrey not Steve Buscemi not Batman and to have a billion dollars ten billion dollars a hundred billion dollars and want more well one in nine of your fellow human being suffers and dies for want of the resources that you possess that my friends that is entitlement you too time to time to end the video tell people to like and subscribe okay
