unity what god can do in that moment amen i don't know about you but i think about heaven especially i just love to worship and what it's going to be like when we're surrounded by millions and millions of angels standing in the throne room of god worshiping him crying holy are you lord what a moment that is gonna be amen that's gonna be a phenomenal moment that we all get to experience together but until then i want to bring heaven into this place amen i want to experience what it's going to be like [Music] and as the holy spirit moves and haves his way in this place and as heaven comes down and we encounter the presence of the holy spirit god's moving on our hearts in this place now he's gonna do something in your life that you never thought possible and i believe that for all of us in this place as we cry out holy is the lord he's gonna do some miracles in this place tonight he's gonna bring restoration in this place tonight [Music] so we open ourselves up to you holy are you lord we want to experience heaven here on earth so move move move in this place holy spirit we pray thank you jesus [Music] all glory and honor oh glory and loner dominion and power to you come on he deserves us it's the song of heaven only when we came to give him honor oh [Music] my a song that's always been all glory and honor dominion [Music] is the lord my heart can't help but sing with [Music] oh [Music] is [Music] here's what i believe god wants to do tonight this one that we're singing holy is the lord is that he wants to restore some people tonight that he wants to heal some people tonight they were saying all glory and honor dominion and power to that same power jesus wants to move in our lives tonight that this isn't just about gathering together and going through the motions and seeing him singing a song and having a ten minute devotion but this is a moment where jesus wants to meet us here and do something in our life let's not be a church that goes through the motions but let's be a church that presses into the presence of jesus amen all right would you pray with me father we thank you for this night that we get to gather together lord i know that in this place tonight there's marriages that you want to restore lord i know there's brokenness in every single one of us that you want to shine your light in our darkness so that we can reflect your light to the world around us lord i pray that as we open up your word that you would speak to us lord that we would learn how to live in the light as you are the light so lord set us free tonight give us hope tonight i pray in jesus name amen go ahead and grab a seat say hello to somebody to sit down well i'm excited to bring a quick devotional here tonight and have the honor to do that i want to preach a short devotional that god laid on my heart for a middle school camp that i spoke at uh last two weeks ago and uh when god was telling me that he wanted me to share this here i said god i don't want to share what i preached at middle school camp to adults and he kind of laughed because god laughs at me sometimes and he said the same problems that middle schoolers have are the same problems that adults have and that god wants to speak to us tonight he wants to do something in our hearts tonight and if you have your bible i'm going to be in 1st john chapter 1 verse 5 through 7 and it says this this is the message we have heard from him and proclaimed to you that god is light and in him is no darkness at all if we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness we lie and do not practice the truth but if we walk in the light as he is in the light we have fellowship with one another and the blood of jesus his son cleanses us from all sin what i want to talk about for the next seven minutes and 40 seconds which is going to be almost impossible we're going to make it happen so i want to talk about masks man this illustration really changed when covid came along i'm not talking about those masks i'm talking about different kind of masks that you and i wear every single day to hide what's going on in our life i remember when i was in middle school middle school was the worst two years of my life i remember uh going into the the summer of my seventh grade year that i went to a friend's house one day and they were my best friends i rode my bike and i showed up and when i walked in the front door my friends tied me up and they put me in a chair and for three hours they took turns hitting me and putting food in front of me and these were my my best friends they had me call my girlfriend you know super serious sixth grade girlfriend and break up with her so that my best friend could date her and i remember walking through that i remember fall trying to follow jesus at that time and i remember thinking to myself if jesus if this is what it's like because the main reason that they were upset with me is that i kept inviting them to church and they were tired of it i remember going and just like wrestling with that i remember the pain that that caused me i remember thinking to myself jesus if this is what it's like to follow you i'm out but the problem is is my dad was a pastor that means i was at church every wednesday i was at church every sunday i was at church every sunday night and so i got in the routine of going through the motions in my faith i knew when i don't know if you know this or not there's a point in a song when you know you should raise your hands like you don't do it in like the first verse okay that's just like way too premature to lift your hands and worship jesus at that moment you have to wait until the song builds i i remem i knew how to to act like i had it all together i would put a mask on every sunday that my life was i had it all figured out i felt good about it and i went through the motions of faith i knew the right people in church i knew the right people to shake their hands i knew who to hug i would seek out all the old people in church and just like i'm great i i have it all figured out but yet the pain was still there i remember when i got into high school then i got really good at hiding my sin i started partying when i was a freshman in high school i got really good at hiding other things and what i've found in life is it's really easy to hide behind a mask so that people don't see the real us that they don't see the pain they don't see the past they don't see the struggle they don't see the things i think with social media it's got even worse that we constantly put our best foot forward and we've lost the art of being real with god and being real with one another and we live hiding behind a mask but the thing about a mask is that jesus can't do anything when we hide behind a mask and often we come to church jesus we want you to do a miracle we want you to heal us god we want you to do something in our life but our life we live it shaded because we only give jesus a part of our life and we don't give him all of our life and we learn how to hide the darkness from the people around us i want to read that passage of scripture again because i think it talks about this idea of living life in the light and allowing the darkness that we hide on the inside be exposed by the light of jesus and here's the beautiful thing that happens when we do that says in verse 5 this is the message we have heard from him and proclaimed to you that god is light and in him we have no and in him is no darkness at all if we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness we lie and do not practice the truth that for believers should be a wake-up call that we can no longer walk in the dark because if we're walking in the darkness if we're hiding things from jesus if we're hiding things from those around us that jesus is saying that you're actually not following and practicing the truth at all that you're living a lie and jesus can't work with the fake you what he's looking for is hearts that are surrendered that allow his light to shine in every dark place in our lives let me show you what it looks like the older i get i get religious about less things but one of the things that i get religious about in my life is my bedtime routine now it takes a lot of work to look like this all the time and i have modeled for sportsmans because my kid is cute and so like i rate myself at a solid seven but at night time i become another person and how many of you know that when like when you're at home you can just be you you can be comfortable so at night time like i become another person and so like at night time i have my routine i was born i cannot see at all and so every single night i go through and i have my coke bottle glasses these are thick i don't know if you can see how thick those things are every night i put these things on and i walk around my house well my parents blessed me i had super crooked teeth great genetics um i had teeth like my these teeth were growing behind these teeth i look like a shark and um so i'm very thankful that my parents could afford braces and so i'm 30 years old and every single night i put these bad boys in and once again genetics are just not on my side apparently because i'm 30 and i'm losing my hair so my friend justin was like hey man you need this balding medication so every single night i go through this transformation process to become the real stephen with coke bottle glasses retainers and balding medication and the only person that i ever let see this side of my life is my wife and why i would go to great lengths to make you understand this is that many of us as followers of jesus are walking around with glasses and retainers and balding medication but we're taking them off so that people think that we have life all figured out [Applause] i hope that sticks in your brain because that's how ugly sin is right there when you take those out but here's what you need to know is that many of us are walking around in the darkness and jesus is saying i want to heal the real you i can't heal the one that that isn't being honest and isn't living in the light and for some of you right now the holy spirit is speaking to you the very things that you're hiding in the darkness and he's saying watch what i do when you bring it into the light when you learn how to trust me with every part of your life that you can be the nerd with glasses and retainers involving medication and i'll still love you because the love of jesus and the grace of jesus is so great that it meets us in our mess but it is so great that it moves us forward as we learn how to walk and live in the light what are the pieces of your life that you're hiding in the darkness and jesus is saying watch what i can do i want to heal you if you'll bring it to the light i want to restore your marriage if you bring it into the light i want to do a work i want to do a miracle that you would take a step of faith that you would find people that you can be real with because you can hear this short devotion be like man i got i got gotta tell everybody everything no please don't do that that's very weird but what i'm saying to you is find people in your corner that you can share the dark parts of your life with because i don't know if you read i don't know if you heard verse 7 it says this but if we are walking in the light as he is in the light then we have fellowship with one another like this is the crazy thing before it says jesus cleanses you of all of your sin the dark parts of your life here's what here's what begins to happen when you share the darkness with somebody else that you trust it says that you have fellowship which is just a really big word for deep relationship isn't that what we're all longing for we're all we're all longing for for better relationships for for deeper meaning relationships that we can trust people and jesus is saying the way that you do it is you get real with one another because i want to do a work in you and when we learn how to walk in the light as he is living in the light we have fellowship with one another and the blood of jesus cleanses us of all of our sins here's how we're going to respond tonight as we continue to worship would you just be real with god because here's the beautiful thing he already knows your heart you don't have to hide what's going on in here because god already knows but something powerful i think about scripture after scripture of jesus looking at people who needed a miracle who needed a healing and he looked at them and would say what do you need there's something powerful about verbalizing what you need from jesus that you're bringing the darkness into the light so that he can do a miracle you need to be real with god maybe the second thing you need to do is you need to find someone tonight that you can be real with that you don't have to hide in the darkness of your emotion of your pain of your sin but jesus wants to do something tonight as we learn to live in the light because here is the beautiful thing i'm going to pray and we're going to worship when the church learns to walk and live in the light we can reflect his light if we're living shaded if we're living in the darkness we can't shine bright for jesus in a world that needs light but when we learn how to walk and live in the light as believers in jesus he does something in our relationships and in fact jesus says they'll know you're my disciples by your love for one another let's be a church that walks in the light so that we can reflect in the light maybe tonight you just need to tell jesus what you're struggling with maybe you need to tell somebody else what you're struggling with maybe after the gathering maybe right now we have a prayer team that would love to pray with you about what you're walking through and watch what jesus does in this place as we learn to live in the light would you stand with me i want to pray because i'm believing that the holy spirit is speaking here tonight that there's things in your life john don't touch those those are gross that jesus is going to do something in our life tonight if we will bring what we've been hiding and bring it to the light he wants to do a miracle tonight he wants to heal us tonight he wants us to grow in relationship with one another so let's go to the one who is the light and watch what he does father we thank you that you sent your son jesus into the world to become light for us and lord i pray in this time that we have tonight that we would no longer hide in the darkness but we would allow you to shine your light in our dark places lord that we would surrender to you and we watch what we you're going to do in this place that you're going to heal you're going to restore because you desire us to be made whole in your name i pray amen let's worship together [Music] so i love you lord i hope your mercy never fails me oh my days [Music] until i lay my head oh i will sing the goodness and god if you have been faithful oh my god you have been so so good with every breath that i have made [Music] [Applause] i love your voice you will [Music] i've known you as a father [Music] [Applause] the goodness of god [Music] you have been so good oh i will sing the goodness and god your goodness is [Music] your goodness is [Music] [Music] is [Music] is [Music] you have been so good [Music] yeah i will sing the goodness and god [Music] [Music] i [Music] [Music] oh god [Music] and our father demonstrated his goodness and his faithfulness and his by sending his son jesus christ to this earth you're all given the communion elements i want you go ahead and grab those [Music] i want to just take us a few minutes this is our way of as believers in jesus christ remembering what he did for us on the cross it's a moment to reflect on our own relationship with him it's a moment to let light in to our darkness just as steven so eloquently said to us tonight it's a moment to say father i'm not living up in this area of my life and i need to give it to you so that's what i want you to do i want you to take one minute kind of do an inspection of your heart before we jump in and take communion together let this be a moment where you just inspect your heart and give over what you need to give over to jesus right now go ahead [Music] so [Music] first [Music] and we are forgiven because of what he did for us on the cross if you grab that piece of bread [Music] let's pray [Music] father in this moment we hold this bread which symbolizes jesus your body that you gave to the cross [Music] you surrendered yourself so lord that our sins would be forgiven [Music] lord let's just as we took this few moments to look inside we can stand here forgiven because of what you did [Music] your mercy is great your love is great [Music] and it's with this piece of bread that we hold right now a symbol of a broken body that you gave to the cross [Music] and we take this piece of bread together in remembrance of you go ahead everybody [Music] and go ahead and grab that cup this covers represents the blood of jesus christ he was the sacrificial lamb led to the slaughter and his blood covers our sins i don't know about you i don't know about you but i know i'm not perfect and i need the forgiveness of a savior because i have fallen short of the glory of god so many times and i need his forgiveness each and every day and we all stand in this place right now needing forgiveness from our sins because we've all fallen short so let's pray together father we hold this cup in our hand a symbol of your blood that was shed your blood covers our sins and it makes us pure in the eyes of the father in heaven no other sacrifice is needed nothing else is needed but our forgiveness comes from you and you alone jesus and we thank you for what you did on that cross for us and we hold and take this cup together in remembrance of the blood that gets shed for us on the cross that covers our sins go ahead everybody [Music] [Music] come on could we just give him a shot of praise in this place come on thank him for his mercy come on he is so good to us he is so good to us come on let's continue to worship let's continue to sing now and let's let him reign in this place and reign in our hearts right now the rain and darkness now has talks about the deliverance of the the israelites out of egypt and i need any every person in this room just to hear me for just for a moment whatever your darkness is whatever it might be god can deliver you do you believe that remember that if you don't remember anything else in this place tonight remember that god can deliver you out of your darkness he is the light and in him there is no darkness so remember that that god can do anything all things are possible through him that we can be delivered from our doctors amen come on let's sing this out together come on let's worship our one
