[Music] [Applause] [Music] come on god's not dead he's here he's moving yes god we are so desperate for you to move here tonight god what would we be without you what would we be without your presence we need you jesus you know canvas as i was praying this week over our worship time together [Music] trying to figure out what god would have us speak would have me speak to you tonight and i really felt a super simple message come into my heart and it's so simple but it's so powerful that i'm i think god's going to do some miracles in this place tonight and this message is this it's don't lose hope whatever you're hoping for whatever you're longing for for the lord to come through in your life don't lose hope and our hope is so closely tied to our faith and our trust in jesus to be who he says he is and to do what he says he will do in our lives just this week i was sitting with my daughter she's seven and uh she was talking about how she was afraid to go upstairs by herself to her bedroom which she sleeps in every night i don't understand but she was really just afraid and so i you know i told her all the right things you know jesus is with you you don't need to be afraid and she said something so powerful to me she said i don't feel like he's with me i can't see him i don't feel like he's with me and when i ask him to help me he doesn't do anything to help me and i'm like oh jesus help me in this moment because this is real and this is what we face jesus where are you i don't see you moving where are you i can't hear your voice does anyone else feel that way sometimes or is it just me man jesus where are you and that's when we come at it with the truth of the scripture and of god's promises to us i have a scripture to share with you it's out of hebrews 11 and it says our faith shows the reality of what we hope for and it's the evidence of things we can't see what can't you see in your life today what miracle can you not fathom happening what what are you seeking the lord for in your life that you he's not showing up for apparently come on jesus wants to move in your life and we combat our faith or our feelings with our faith let's not let our feelings determine our faith in this place so jesus we ask you give us greater faith give us a greater understanding of how you're moving and how you're working because we know that you are so lord god would we be able to understand that you are the rock in which we stand god would we believe that your promises are for here and now and that you are going to continue to move so come on church as we continue to praise him as we continue to exalt him come on let's trust that he is able to do all things in our lives amen [Music] as an anchor for my soul [Music] through every storm i will all my [Music] it was uh two years ago my wife and i we got a phone call to come interview at campus church columbia falls and i remember going to the gathering that sunday and not sure if god wanted my family and i to move here and we were sitting in a moment of worship like this and we're singing this song and i felt the holy spirit speak to me i'm moving you home i'm bringing you back home and i was like that's great but there's somebody else you got to convince the next gathering my wife was sitting in the in a moment of worship the exact same song god spoke the exact same thing and i'm here to tell you i don't know what it is that you're looking for today i don't know what your soul searching for but the same god that spoke two years ago is the same god who's here again tonight who wants to move in your life and here's how here's what i want us to pray maybe you need to pray it loud enough to hear yourself pray is that god all i want is all you are what a powerful prayer god all i want is all you are so let's lift them up father i thank you that you knew this moment lord you knew every heart that would be in this room you knew every heart that would be watching online and lord you want to move in this place today you don't want to leave us the same you want to transform us by your grace you want us to experience your love so lord i pray today as we open up your word that you would give us ears to hear the truth that you would have us lord the truth that i feel burning in my heart this week lord i wish that i could just plant it in every heart that hears your word today so lord would you give us hearts to believe in hearts to receive but lord let us be a people that have the feet to live out the truth we hear today because the world is searching and we have the answer and his name is jesus and we love you and we thank you and you give this time in jesus name amen go ahead and grab a seat [Music] [Music] well hey i want to welcome everybody to canvas my name is steve and i get to be our columbia falls campus pastor so glad you decided to join us i want to take a minute welcome everybody online our cup bank campus cup bank you weren't here but we celebrated you can we celebrate five baptisms last week in cup bank cup bank we're celebrating with you columbia falls i miss you this week um but i know we have the loudest and rowdiest crowd up in columbia falls so i know you're making some noise we'll see you next week but we're starting across all of our campuses a new series today that we've entitled i am and what we're doing for the next seven weeks is we're going to be in the gospel of john looking at seven statements of jesus where he says i am now that'll make more sense here in just a second i'll kind of explain it but i kind of want to give you a series text of where we're going why we're doing this series our hope for this series is found in john chapter 20 verse 31. now john was a disciple of jesus and he is the disciple whom jesus loved humble brag on his point but he says at the very end of his gospel this is what he says why he wrote this book he says but these are written so that you may continue to believe that jesus is the messiah the son of god and that by believing in him you will have life by the power of his name that is what we want our church that's what we want to experience these next seven weeks as jesus reveals himself to us through his word that we would come to believe that jesus christ is the messiah the son of god that by believing in him we have eternal life through the power of the name above all names which is jesus our heart is this that whether you've been following jesus for 50 years or this is your first time in church that you would have a fresh move of the holy spirit that god would reveal himself through his son jesus once again that we would fall in love with the person of jesus not just what jesus can do in your life that jesus by simply believing in jesus it changes everything in our life why is this so significant why would we take seven weeks to look at the i am statements well what jesus is doing in this moment in the gospel is he's revealing himself as god in fact if we go back to exodus chapter three there's a moment where god reveals himself to moses in the burning bush that doesn't consume itself and god is telling moses i want you to go back to egypt where you left and i want you to help set my people free and moses is freaking out he's like god i can't do this i don't know what i'm supposed to do and like what am i supposed to tell the people that i'm doing and who am i supposed to tell them that is sending me and god says i want you to tell them that that i am is sending you and he's like yeah yeah but he's like no i am who i am what god is saying is i am yahweh i am the all-powerful all-knowing god that that time doesn't stop me that i am the all-powerful all-knowing the name above all names type god so when jesus tells the people of the day and he reveals himself to us today as the i am what he's telling the world is i am the one you've been searching for i am the one that generations have foretold i am the one that they've prophesied about i am the son of god and when we're going to look at jesus makes some outlandish claims that they don't really make sense and so when we look at these claims of jesus we have to look at a couple different things because we have to wrestle with what jesus is claiming see jesus could be claiming to be god and he could be a liar when we look at these statements jesus could straight up be lying he could just be another person or he could be like he needs to go get some help he could be a lunatic like the things jesus saying just don't make sense or he's the lord that's what we have to wrestle with as a church when he reveals himself to us the holy spirit is going to speak to us through this series is jesus a liar or is he a lunatic or is he the lord because if we believe he is the lord it's going to change the way we live our life because when we believe in jesus he loves us so much to meet us where we're at but he loves us so much to take us where he wants to take us and so when we jump into this series we're gonna see jesus reveal himself in a fresh way and here's where we're starting today we're starting with the first i am statement john chapter six where jesus says i am the bread of life now context is super important when you look at scripture because you could look and say i am the bread of life and if you said that in our context in the world we live in today you might think yourself well jesus that's cool but i don't eat carbs okay i'm on a diet i stay away from bread it's not good in fact who goes to a restaurant just to get bread like bread's a side dish in our culture for some of you you'd be like uh jesus i have a gluten sensitivity is it gluten-free bread that you're offering us in this moment just wanna make sure that it's gonna be good for my stomach here's what you need to know in jesus day bread was not a side dish bread was the main dish and jesus is going to reveal himself in fact here here's the beautiful thing that jesus is doing he's giving us a kids ministry object lesson we have to understand what had just happened so we can understand why jesus says i am the bread of life i could get to john chapter 6 35 where jesus says i am the bread of life and i could preach it but it wouldn't make any sense unless we know what happened beforehand well beginning of john chapter 6 jesus had been gaining a huge following in fact this is the high point of jesus's ministry here on earth more people following jesus at this point than any other here's why he had done his first miracle john chapter two he turned water into wine people were pretty excited about that one and they wanted to know more about this guy so they're following jesus john chapter 3 he begins to teach and he teaches a pharisee a religious leader who knew the law how to inherit eternal life and people were in awe of the wisdom and authority which with jesus taught with they wanted to know more from this individual they started following so he started healing people he started setting people free and people are like we just want to see what this guy is all about and in john chapter 6 we see about 5 000 men scholars say between 15 000 to 20 000 people are now following jesus at this one location and we've talked about this miracle a couple times it's one of the only miracles that we see in every gospel and it's the feeding of the five thousand i love this story because jesus has compassion on the people and he begins to have conversations with the people and he speaks and he's doing healing and he's doing all these different things and at some point during the day towards the end of the day he looks at his disciples and goes i wonder where we're gonna get bread to feed all these people and the disciples like we don't have that kind of money jesus so they came up with a plan like hey jesus we got a great plan let's send everybody away to nearby markets it'll boost the economy of the local towns it's going to be fantastic we don't have to deal with it and it's not our problem anymore let's just send them away and jesus looks at his disciples and goes i want you to feed him so what they do is they beat up a little child they steal his lunch and they achieve they get five loaves of bread and two fish and they're like this is what we got we got five loaves of bread two fish how are we gonna feed these people it says that jesus broke the bread he blessed it and it says that every single person ate as much as they could until they couldn't eat anymore and there was 12 baskets of leftovers now this is an insane miracle we could talk about this miracle but jesus is setting himself up to reveal himself to the people of the day and he didn't want them to miss what he was about to tell them and so the people are all excited because jesus had just fed them in fact 80 of what people spent money on during jesus's time was on food so to say that food was an important thing is kind of an understatement we love food they just needed food to survive back then we live in excess they were like everything we do is so that we can just have food so for jesus to feed people until they were full was a huge deal so they're looking at jesus in this miracle like we are having a political revolution now this is the guy this is our king we need him and so it says in verse 15 that they tried to force jesus to be their king but it says that jesus retreated to himself to pray and it says that he sent his disciples away they get on a boat to go across the sea a little storm comes up jesus casually walks on water he gets in the boat they have a little conversation they get across to the other side they spend the night and in the morning it says in verse 22 where we pick up our story when jesus is going to reveal himself as the bread of life and he's it says the next day the people woke up and they were looking for jesus how many of you know that it doesn't matter how much you eat at dinner time when you wake up in the morning and you're hungry again the people wake up and they had just ate until they were full the night before but they woke up and their stomachs were once again craving bread and so they look for jesus so they get in boats they go across the sea and how many of you know that food's a motivator free like who doesn't love free food so these people are like this guy fed us we're hungry let's go find jesus again because we want bread in fact this many scholars believe this is where the slow chant began to happen when the people were crossing they started chanting we want bread we want bread and they show up to jesus and they're like where were you like how did you get here and he's like i casually walked on water don't worry about it it's another miracle for another day don't get confused but in this moment i want to teach you something and the people show up and they're hungry again and they're looking for jesus to feed them and jesus looks at the people and he's going to have a little conversation with him and that's where we pick up this story in john chapter 6 verse 27 when jesus looks at the people and says jesus black i tell you the truth you want to be with me because i fed you ow it's like jesus knew their heart he knew their motivation they weren't there to see jesus they were there because we want bread he must have heard them coming across the sea we want bread and it says you want to be with me because i fed you not because you understood the miraculous signs but don't be so concerned about perishable things like food spend your energy seeking the eternal life that the son of man can give you for god the father has given me the seal of his approval jesus looks at the people and he knows their hearts you know i know why you're here i know well i know why you're making all of this effort to cross the sea i know that you don't really care you're not understanding why i provided for you all you care about is that you want another meal from me i see your heart i see your motivations i see your intentions let me tell you you're wasting your time because you're looking for the wrong thing how often in life do we find ourselves looking for the wrong things jesus is like i know why you're here i know that you guys don't see what i'm trying to do in this moment and jesus is challenging the intentions and the motivations and what he's trying to get them to come to understand is why am i here why are you here like without jesus just yelling i'm saying why are you here he's trying to get them to think well why are you here why would you spend all of this time when you could be working you could be doing other things you could have do so many different things but you followed me across the sea so that i could give you more bread here's the thing that jesus knew that there was a deeper hunger inside of them than the physical hunger they were experiencing in the moment and he looks at all of us and he knows that there's a deeper hunger inside of us in fact i would call it this it's a soul craving that you and i have to be made whole to be made new to be loved to be valued to be loved there's something inside each and every one of us that jesus sees and he sees in the people and he's speaking to them i see that you're craving bread i came to give you something different and jesus begins to unpack he says don't spend your time on things that have an expiration date last week's message kevin talked about closing out our becoming series about having a faith that doesn't have an expiration date that we're passing on to the next generation i began thinking about in my life how often i get worried about things that have an expiration date i get worried about things like i get worried about my car i get worried about my house i get worried about what i'm going to do here and i get worried about all these things that have an expiration date and jesus says don't spend your energy on things that are going to expire but spend your energy seeking the eternal life that the son of god is granting you is giving you don't miss what jesus is doing in this moment what he's saying to the people he said it's me the son of man i'm here don't miss it don't because something big is happening in this moment something divine is happening in this moment jesus is trying to tell the crowd that he is the son of man he has the seal of god's approval he is god's guarantee and he's sitting right in front of him don't miss it how often do you and i miss it that jesus is right there in front of us he's god's son he's god's guarantee he wants to do something in us but we're so caught up in things that expire and the people they were missing it and jesus saying it's me it's here you have a physical need that you want met but i came to meet a spiritual need i came to meet a soul craving i want to do something inside of you don't miss something big when something trivial around you wants your attention you ever had that happen to you in your life something big just happened but there's a little detail that wasn't what you thought it was going to be so it throws you off i remember on my wedding day my wife and i we got married almost eight years ago to be eight years on august 10th in big fork it was 95 degrees for some reason i thought black shoes would be a good idea and my feet were on fire i remember a couple things about that day remember our first look it was amazing seeing my wife for the first time in her dress you know that moment and then me my wife walking down the aisle i'm weeping um my wife has no emotion so she just was like why are you crying i don't understand i'm like you're so beautiful she's like yeah great okay let's just get this thing over with and i remember we're going through it it's awesome it's hot like it was the longest communion ever like we remember okay we get the jesus like let's just get through the ceremony and we're trying to we're going through it at the end of it you know my uncle's the officiant he says now you stephen you may kiss your bride i kiss the ride everybody celebrates then we turn our hands in the air you know the the pronouncement like for the very first time i pronounce like mr and mrs stephen masters and everyone's supposed to be celebrating you know and everyone's really excited and then they're supposed to be music and you're like yes like you're supposed to dance down the aisle it's supposed to be a great moment i remember like a hands in the air we get like mr mr steven masters and i look over at my brother-in-law because we are way too cheap to have a dj so like of course you just grab your brother-in-law who's got an ipad or an iphone you're like this is perfect this is going to work for us and he's sitting there on facebook and i'm like dude and my like my wife is angry at this moment like she is details control feed like gotta get it down timing okay so like i'm like let's just start walking she's like i'm waiting for the music so we're i'm like we're here i'm like let's go i'm like let's let's go and so we start walking no music no music no music and i'm holding my wife's hand i'm so excited i just got married you know best day of your life you know and i'm excited i'm like hey we just got married because i don't care but babe we we we just got married the song is supposed to be playing she's like it's the florida georgia lion song i'm like i know you picked the song but baby got married like it's still good she's like no it's ruined i'm like the marriage or just the day or the song and she's so frustrated i'm like what do i do here and then like we get to the very end and when it's the outside wedding and we had walked all the way down music plays i'm like saved it have you ever missed something big because something trivial is happening around you and jesus looks at the people something big is happening in this moment jesus trying to is trying to reveal to them that he is the messiah the one that generations have prophesied the one that they've been waiting for and jesus is building up this moment he had just fed all these people and their physical hunger and jesus is trying to say it's not the physical hunger i came for it's the spiritual hunger what you need to know is that jesus alone satisfies the spiritual hunger inside of us jesus is trying to do something in this moment he's trying to speak to us and he looks at the people and he speaks to them and he's putting this challenge and the people they feel the challenge they're like oh um so they say this in verse 28 here's what they say to jesus they replied we want to perform god's works too what should we do so here's what they're thinking bread again they're like we want bread we like how do we do what you did jesus how do we like make like five loaves of bread into like infinite loaves of bread and jesus says this jesus told them this is the only word god wants from you believe in the one he has sent they're like does this mean we get an appetizer though like jesus do we get bread after this like what are you trying to get at jesus and jesus like the only work that the father desires from you is a relationship it is to believe in the one he has sent the crowd is ready to earn eternal life they're like what do i got to do isn't it funny how often our response to the good news is what do i have to do all the time but really just i got to believe in you and like what am i going to do after that to earn it like what else do we got to do to to get more bread what else do you what are we looking for and jesus is saying i want you to believe in the one he has sent i want you to trust me i want you to put go all in with me i i am the one that god is guaranteeing that's going to bring spiritual wholeness inside of you that soul craving that you have i came to meet it i came to make you whole i came to make you new i came for a relationship don't miss what jesus is doing in this moment and they're trying to earn it because we need to know this we can never earn it we can never be good enough and jesus the father here's what he desires he desires for us to believe in his son who he has sent john 3 16 for god so loved the world he gave his one and only son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but will have eternal life through him this idea of life in jesus and john's gospel just keeps coming back over and over and over again in fact over 36 times john talks about the life that we have when it comes to a relationship with jesus it's a wholeness here on earth but man it's a perspective that heaven is our home there's no expiration date when we believe in jesus that we are temporary residents and foreigners in this land and one day we get to get to go be home with him and jesus like that's what it's all about that's why i came i didn't come just so that you could have a full stomach i came so that you would have life and life abundantly through me the only work that god desires from us is that we believe in the one who he has sent because jesus alone satisfies your spiritual hunger nothing else will satisfy it's not jesus plus the blessings he gives you it's not jesus plus his power it's not jesus plus anything else it's jesus the person that i am is the only thing that satisfies your spiritual hunger he sees the soul craving in the people and he sees the soul craving he knows that there's people in this room people watching online people at our campuses right now that they're here and they're searching for something and jesus is revealing himself and he's saying i am the only thing that's going to satisfy your heart i'm the only thing that's going to satisfy and the people they begin to ask so the people jesus reveals himself and he's speaking to the people like okay well if you are god's like son if you're the messiah we need you to do a sign like could you do a miracle and here's where here's where their mind goes it goes to bread once again hey do you remember moses and jesus like yeah i remember moses he goes you know how god like how moses gave our people mana every single day like could you do something kind of like that and she's like oh my goodness gracious you people and your bread you're not understanding this moment and jesus is like you don't understand it wasn't moses who gave you manna it was my father in heaven who gave you manna don't miss what jesus is trying to do in this moment as he's revealing stuff that people are like we want bread like there was probably that one person that got it but like everybody else was chanting and when everybody gets on a slow chant you have to join the slow chance we want bread we want bread and like they're hungry and jesus like you're missing what i'm trying to do in this moment other things are grabbing for your attention in verse 32 jesus tells them this i tell you the truth once again moses didn't give you bread from heaven my father did and now he offers you the true bread from heaven the true bread of god is the one who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world sir they said they don't learn sir they said give us that bread every day hear that we want bread come on people we want bread come on we want bread you never thought you'd say that in church the people are like jesus give us that bread every day we want to eat of it just like our ancestors did in the desert with the manna the true bread is the one that is sent from heaven and here's what jesus says in verse 35 is the people are chanting jesus replied i am the bread of life whoever comes to me will never be hungry again whoever believes in me will never be thirsty again could you imagine the people as jesus looks at all of them as their their hearts are we want that bread we want we want more food jesus we want and jesus looks at goes i am he's saying i'm god it's me i am the bread of life if you come to me if you have a relationship with me you will never hunger and thirst again and he's not talking about a physical hunger or a physical thirst he's talking about the soul craving that each and every one of us have to be made whole and to be known and to be loved by the one who created us because god sent his son into the world so that we could have a relationship through him and what he did for us on the cross that on the third day he rose again and when we believe in that it changes everything he says i am the bread of life i wish i could be there to see the people's faces so what you're saying is we're not getting bread and they're frustrated and jesus spends time in verses 36 through 40 unpacking that he is the one who the father has sent and when you believe in the one that the father has sent you find life and life eternally through him jesus is trying to change their perspective from the things of this world to eternity because eternity is written on the hearts of man it says in scripture and we're all seeking that answer we're all trying to fill our life with different things and jesus says come to me and you'll never be hungry and thirsty again for only jesus can satisfy your spiritual soul craving that each and every one of us has he says i am the bread of life you need to know this jesus didn't come to save them from starvation he came to offer them salvation they're looking for their physical hunger to get fed and jesus says i wanna i wanna meet something jesus cared about their physical need but he also cared more about their spiritual need the greatest need jesus came to fulfill something greater than a physical hunger inside each and every one of those people he saw their hearts he knew their intentions he knew the motivations and he says i have come so that you would have life in me so the question is we have to wrestle with ourselves why are we here we're here at church we're watching online you're at one of our campuses and you're watching and you're wondering like why am i here and there's something maybe in your heart and in your soul it might not we might not be we want bread but for the majority of us there's something that we're here we're searching for we're looking for and our heart is chanting it right now god i need this god i need this god i need this and i find often i'm driven to jesus because i have a need and i need him to meet it i'm driven by a physical need i'm driven by an emotional need i'm driven by my needs and often i miss that jesus just wants a relationship with me and i come to him and i'm just i just need i need i need and there's something inside of us often that we come to jesus looking for and we have to answer well why am i here if jesus looked at the people and he said you're not here because you understand the miraculous signs that i did you're here because i fed you what is he looking at our heart right now speaking to us saying i know why you're here it's not because you understand who i am it's because you're looking for something from me not you're not looking for me jesus wants to reveal himself so that we could have a relationship with him you see we could come to jesus and say jesus i need a house jesus i need a house i need a house in fact that's what most people are playing in the valley right now lord just i need a house i need a house i need a house please nothing and kyla lord no don't please nothing and guess what if you get a house that's great it's going to satisfy for a moment but eventually you're going to want something different right now i drive a 2002 toyota avalon it's the grandma car of all grammar cars it's amazing i love it and i get made fun of quite often here on staff for driving my vehicle but it's paid for and it keeps running so i'm going to keep running until it goes to the ground but often i drive other vehicles of my friends i'm like god i could really use a new car and if i got a new truck and i put it on payment it'd probably feel good for a moment but it'd only satisfy for a moment and maybe some of you you're here not for a physical need like that but you're here for uh maybe you're here for a physical healing and like god if you just healed me then i'd believe that if you could just do this miracle i'm here for a miracle god might do a miracle tonight but guess what there's going to be another miracle down the road maybe you hear like god i just need your power in my life i need your strength i need you to do something and god's like that's great i want to give you strength i want to encourage you because none of the things that i'm talking about are bad things but they're only going to satisfy you temporarily and jesus saying there's a deeper craving a deeper need that i have come to meet that the things of this world that have an expiration date will satisfy temporarily but i want you to have a perspective that's about eternity i came to give you life in life abundantly that when you believe in me i want to change everything in your life i want to give you a new heart and a new way to live life that when you believe in jesus that he is the son of god it transforms everything about our lives it's not jesus i give you pieces of my life and when those pieces are broken or those broken pieces we bring them to jesus and say vending machine jesus fix it jesus says if you come to me you will never hunger and thirst again that's why the apostle paul in philippians chapter 4 he says i have learned the secret of being content in every situation whether i have food to eat or nothing if i have plenty of food or no food plenty of things to have or nothing he says i have learned the secret of being content that i can do all things through christ who gives me strength he's saying it's jesus if i have jesus i have enough if everything gets taken away jesus is enough and we're all about jesus plus jesus plus jesus plus and jesus is like it's just me i came for a relationship because without a relationship church begins to feel like a chore without a relationship serving our church and our community begins to feel like a burden and and and living life without a relationship with jesus we miss the life that he came to give us through what he did on the cross and rising again on the third day we have to it's jesus jesus you alone satisfy my spiritual hunger and he it's not that he doesn't care about our needs but he came to meet our greatest needs so what is it that your heart is chanting that you think you need what is it that your heart is searching after so that if i get this then i'll be fulfilled i'll be made whole and often we go through life trying to fill the void that only jesus can fill with other things man we fill it with relationships all the time i just need more relationships i need more healthy relationships and those are great things but guess what they'll never satisfy the way jesus satisfies for some of you it's like i just need more things like i won a razor i won a razor like come on lord i could just do i could do so much ministry with the razor in columbia falls like there are so many mountains i could take so many like i want a razor what is it that your heart is saying i need this god i want this and jesus is looking i know why you're here and he's speaking to us it's only him that will satisfy our needs it's only him for some of us it's an addiction that we go to it's a crutch that we have we're trying to fill that void so we go to something that makes us feel good for a moment but then always makes us go back for more because it doesn't satisfy it satisfies for a moment it satisfies temporarily it feels good in the moment how many of you know sin feels good for a moment but it always leads to death that jesus is trying to say i am the only thing that satisfies and the people they're frustrated they look at jesus jesus says i am the bread of life anyone who comes to me will never hunger and thirst again the people are like wait a second we know who you are you're you're joseph and mary's son you're a lunatic like you don't know what you're talking about and they're discouraged they're defeated and they walk away from jesus because they don't understand what he's doing many of us are here today and we won't understand what jesus is trying to do in this moment as he says i am the bread of life i alone will satisfy and the people are like we're out and then jesus doubles down on this teaching he goes if any of you wants to be my father you have to eat in my flesh and drink in my blood he went full vampire which are metaphors for believing in jesus believing in him and the people they're discouraged they're frustrated and how often do we get discouraged and frustrated because we don't see what jesus is doing in the moment we're trying to jesus i need this jesus and he's like i just want you to want me that all i want is all you are jesus that you are enough for me so i say to you if your soul is hungry if your soul is thirsty if your soul is craving jesus is the only thing that will make you whole jesus is the only thing that will make you new jesus is the only thing that satisfies your spiritual hunger he satisfies and he is enough people are frustrated they don't understand what jesus is saying and he looks at them in john chapter 6 verse 47 he says once again i tell you the truth anyone who believes has eternal life yes i am the bread of life speaking to us today what are you searching after what are you trying to do to make yourself good enough what are you trying to earn what are you trying to prove and jesus looks at us like he looks at the crowd and he says i am the bread of life it's about believing in the one the father has sent that makes you good enough it's repenting of your sin believing that jesus died on the cross and he rose again on the third day and that is enough and often that's where our faith stops and we think if i just believe i'm good i'm in heaven but jesus is like no you can keep coming back to me you can keep believing in me you keep trusting and i want to take you deeper i want to take you farther and what jesus desires for you and i canvas church is we simply believe in him i can't overcomplicate it's what jesus said he desires for every single person to know him in an intimate way that he came so that they could have life in what he did that he took our penalty on the cross so that people could experience hope now and they could experience heaven later it's the gospel people i can't change it i can't make it up but it is the best news and i've been feeling all week long jesus if i could just take this truth and plant it in the heart of every person it would change everything because believing is working and working is believing because when you believe that jesus christ is the lord the i am it'll change the way you live because he's not asking for a little part of your life he's last he's asking for all of it he's saying watch what i do with your life i got a plan for you when you believe in him he makes you a new creation when you believe in him he's got a plan for your life when you believe jesus wants to satisfy your spiritual hunger and he wants us to be in relationship with him the truth that jesus is god changes everything here's what it changes we no longer have to search for wholeness when we believe in jesus we get to live from a place of wholeness we don't have to go looking for other things to fill our life jesus i need more jesus i need these things jesus i need this simply when we believe in jesus says we will never hunger and thirst again that jesus is enough he alone satisfies he is the one who makes this whole and it says right then in scripture when jesus begins to unpack this that many people walked away they left frustrated they left angry they left confused and i love that jesus looks at his disciples 12. he says you want to leave too don't you they were confused they're frustrated they didn't understand what jesus was saying but then peter i love peter's response and this is the practical of this message in john chapter 6 verse 68 here is the the verse that peter says peter replied to jesus saying you want to leave to he says lord now i learned in the new in the king james version which is to whom shall we go but to whom would we go you have the words that give eternal life we believe and we know that you are the holy one of god so canvas church i ask you tomorrow morning when you wake up to whom shall you go when you wake up tuesday to whom shall you go when you wake up on wednesday to whom shall you go this isn't a message that we just one time say jesus i believe you're the bread of life you're enough for me it's a message that we have to wake up every morning and say to whom shall i go am i gonna go to the things of this earth that expire and fade away or i'm gonna go to the bread of life that when i come to you i will never hunger and thirst again what does that look like maybe tomorrow morning it's i wake up and i just say thank you jesus for another day maybe it's getting into your word and reading john chapter six maybe it's having a conversation with somebody in your family about jesus to whom shall we go peter's saying jesus where else are we going to go we gave up our jobs we gave up our livelihood we gave up our families to follow you where else are we going to go canvas where else are we going to go to find life other than the name of jesus because john says in john chapter 20 verse 31 that i have written these things that you would continue to believe that jesus christ is the son of god the messiah that anyone who believes in him will have life through the power of his name and in the next six weeks we're going to look at as jesus continues to reveal himself as i am the gate i am the good shepherd i am the resurrection in the life i am the way the truth and the life i am that what we would wrestle with jesus if you are the lord to whom shall we go and watch what jesus does in us as we choose to believe that he is the son of god because it changes everything when we go to him would you grab that connection card every single week we have first box says this i choose to follow jesus and maybe you're here and you've been searching and you're understanding that maybe the craving inside isn't a physical hunger to go get food right after this it's something deeper within and it's jesus making his way into your heart and you want to say for the first time jesus i choose to follow you i'll tell you it's the best decision second it's simply a declaration i have been filling my life with the wrong things i've been trying to fill the void in my life with all these other things and jesus alone satisfies my spiritual hunger third i believe jesus is enough that it's jesus alone it's not jesus plus all these other things it's jesus alone and lastly here's the important part and as you stand with me i want you to hear this i want others to experience wholeness in jesus how many of you know that we have a world that is searching we have a world that is looking for answers and it's our job as followers of jesus who have been made whole who have been made new because he is the bread of life he is enough it's our responsibility to tell the world about the bread of life hey i know the sustenance you need i know what you're looking for his name is jesus cut bank the cup bank needs jesus columbia falls jesus the columbia falls needs jesus we need to be a church cow spell because we've been made whole and new by jesus that we'd go tell the world that what they're searching for is found in jesus alone because he is the bread of life and anyone who comes to him will never hunger and thirst again would you stand with me let's pray we're going to continue in a moment of worship lord right now i believe your holy spirit is speaking to people's hearts about things that they're they're craving after they're coming they're searching and lord tonight you revealed yourself as i am the bread of life that anyone who comes to you will never hunger and thirst again lord may the simple reminder that it's believing that jesus is the messiah he died on the cross and rose again that you make us new that when we believe we get a fresh start lord would we live from that fresh start that you are enough jesus we don't have to go anywhere else and lord when you come in and satisfy lord help us to go to a world that's searching so that we can tell them that jesus is the only way that jesus will satisfy that jesus will love you like nobody else will love you and that the world may know jesus because there's a people at canvas church that says he is enough and he
