huh hello and welcome to just one more watch if this is your first time on the channel welcome my name is Judy I talk about watches I would love you to subscribe by hitting the button down in the bottom corner of the screen most of the pieces I review are shall we see more economically viable than this one this is one of our continuing series where my mysterious friend mr. X allows me to peel the stickers off an outrageous Swiss timepiece and today is no exception not content with owning one Rolex deep sea sea dweller mr. X just bought another one and it's not just an ordinary model like this 2017 school our season it's the 2018 Baselworld James Cameron let's flip the camera and peel off some stickers before I get into the new one that one two triple six zero Rolex deep sea sea dweller James Cameron 2018 I thought I'd talk a little bit about this one which is one one a triple six zero Rolex deep sea sea dweller black dialed 2017 version and as we're going through Rolex today I've been saving these are not normally a white golf guy but it seems fitting doesn't it as you may have gathered from the little outtake that I reinserted at the top of the intro I don't like this watch I don't like it sighs I don't like its bulk I don't like the way it wears and I don't like some of what it represents I mean it's a bit of an engineering marvel the fact that Rolex can design a watch capable of withstanding pressures associated with nearly four kilometres of debt but it is utterly pointless now some of my complaints about this one apply to the newer model that I'm about to peel the stickers off some do not and I will discuss as we go along so it's a big 144 millimeters in diameter just under 18 millimeters thick I think this is the thickest single wash that I've reviewed over several hundred he says that I looked at now in the channel nearly 52 millimeters lock to lock and yeah it's got a slightly weird lock with my calipers measure is just under 21 millimeters I guess you're not gonna be swapping this one out all that often but it's got a super narrow tapered I mean this one tapers kind of like my horas 65 in some ways down to under 16 and giving the clasp is just under 18 there for so back up to 18 for the clasp so it's gonna top-heavy it's got this massive bulbous head on the watch and that rule ex uses 904 and all stainless steel rather than three one sec sale stainless steel it's a kind of aerospace grade more corrosion resistant than three one six Hale so they claim anyway but it is prone to scratching it is more easily polish' below but as you can see mr. X genuinely uses this piece as his his diver watching me for the various conversations about the the merits and pitfalls of using a watch like this when you are underwater the movement in this is a Rolex caliber 3-1 35 42 our powers of high beat moment with a date complication there at the theic I don't claim to be an expert in Rolex I don't know all that much about the movements but I would imagine it's gonna be pretty accurate to within cost parameters anyway super reliable and only requiring a service every 10 years or so list price of 12 and a half thousand dollars for these ones you wouldn't want to be servicing the watch all that regularly anyway because I'm sure their services aren't cheap I should point out that it does have a pretty natty bracelet clasp this is Rolexes grade lock system which is fantastic and the deep sea has the glide lock on the outside so you can adjust this watch on the fly is the only Rolex that you don't actually have to take off subcommander has a similar glide lock system but you do have to take the watch off in order to adjust it it also has a divers extension as you'd expect from a genuine dive watch like this one and there it is on my seven inch wrist and it looks fairly comical I think especially given that drastic taper from 20 whatever it is down to 15 and then back up to 18 for the clasp slightly disproportionate given how top-heavy the watches the whole watch weighs in at 217 grams which is fairly monstrous I think again this is one of the heaviest watches that I have looked at in the channel but it never feels secure on your wrist it feels top-heavy like it's bobbling around too much because it is top-heavy and it is wobbling around too much well you've been a bit of a negative Nancy today Jodie it can't be all that bad can it surely there's some good in this watch it is a 12 and a half grand Rolex after all of course there's some good in this watch it's amazing it's beautifully manufactured that ceramic bezel insert is just stunning the vessel itself 120 click unidirectional rotating dive time is gorgeous it feels light but it feels a precise no backplate and the dial itself is just fab beautiful crisp application of all the writing lovely white gold indices filled with Rolexes proprietary chroma light loom now this one featured in my loom wars and it did rather well indeed it one loom was again as you'd expect from the most expensive watch to to take on the competition that day chroma light is pretty amazing kind of like bgw 9 in color but lasts much much longer as well again what you'd expect for a hardcore dive watch at its price point so not for me this one I'm not quite sure why anyone would pick this from a Rolex catalog when the Submariner was on the next page perhaps if you're a really big guy and you have giant 8 8 and a half inch wrists and you're looking for something Meteor than the 40 mil sabe but my 7 interest is dual average and on my 7 inch wrist this looked ridiculous I can only imagine therefore that it's for people who just want to make more of a statement to show that they have got more money than the guy wearing the sub II mixing them ouch and then let's talk about Rolexes shonky business practices they put up their prices by 3 to 5 percent across-the-board in recent days and there have been persistent rumors that they have been limiting supply thereby allowing them to increase their prices without too many complaints and nobody's complaining let's be honest there are still queues out the door for years and years for their more popular pieces mr. X is fairly hi out the list on a couple of dealers in the UK hence the reason that he has access to these 2018 puzzle pieces at all the rest of us mere mortals would be waiting years for them and when you pay the exorbitant fees that they require and you get to the front of the queue you find this guarantee card withheld for 12 months and to add insult to injury the Muppet denying you your warranty doesn't even have the decency to spell the word withheld properly floor-length knows exactly what they're doing the limiting supply thereby increasing demand allowing them to jack up the prices creating a super hot used market for these pieces but they're not complicit in allowing you to flip it for a profit because they take the guarantee card off you for 12 months I cannot think of another industry that does this it is simply outrageous I get it it's called capitalism it's Adam Smith's invisible hand you restrict supply you increased man and you increase the prices that you are able to sell those products for but as long as there is demand for these Rolexes as long as people are prepared to pay the in prices and prices keep going up then this will continue and everyone who buys a Rolex is complicit in this practice so you only have yourselves to blame this is turning into a bit of a ran maybe I should have a we sit down in a nice cup of tea try and reduce my blood pressure a bit never mind let's crack on with the unboxing maybe peeling off some stickers will help ease my frustration comes with the usual assortment of little niceties basil potato various hangtags guarantee card and instruction manual it does come in a classic Rolex green box door perhaps someone could leave me a comment let me know whether these are actually leather or mr. angst just paid twelve and a half thousand US dollars for something made out of plastic anyway there is the watch so the dimensions are similar if not identical to the older 2017 and earlier model 44 mil in diameter still 17 just under 18 mil thick lug tips lock tip seemed to me to be just slightly shorter and the lug width just slightly wider so just over 21 as opposed to just under 21 the lugs themselves are perceptibly narrower very small difference but notice of our put the two side-by-side biggest difference in terms of the dimensions though is changes to the proportion the bracelet it narrows down to 17 class goes back up to just over 19 so certainly more substantial meteor feeling than the previous one certainly in terms of the bracelet anyway this one also features a different movement to earlier generations of the deep-sea Cinderella the 3 2 3 5 again I'm not going to get into the technicalities of it I'm sure it's amazing it does however feature a 70 hour power Reserve as opposed to the old ones 42 which I guess is a a big boon in terms of the the livability and wearability of one of these if you've got it in a kinda small rotation of a couple of different pieces ok the gloves are coming off let's peel off some stickers mister eggs assures me that he had to virtually run out of the dealership in order that they did not peel off the stickers for him again just trying to ensure that these are less flippable on the used market [Music] and last but not least the big case bag sticker [Music] I'll leave the little clasp on on for mr. axe it is his watch after all so there we are one D sticker and deflowered Rolex deep sea seed well on James Cameron let's get this one on wrist and then let's get it out into some natural light to see this dial pop so as I was hoping it is instantly a better fit than the previous model a couple of millimeters doesn't sound like an awful lot but it has made a huge difference to the way this watch wears weight is identical at 217 grams but it doesn't feel nearly as top-heavy and bobbly you do feel like this thicker bracelet thicker clasp is holding the watch on much more securely to your wrist because it is and that's the watch outside in some natural light it really does feel like a different wash the two metal difference in the bracelet has made a fundamental alteration to the way that this what wears it's still a beast though 18 milfay close to it 44 mil 217 grams you certainly aren't gonna forget that you're wearing a Rolex deep sea sea dweller James Cameron but I think that's part of the point of this one there are far more discreet watches in the Rolex range if you want to buy a Rolex you're buying this one because you want to show off a bit and that dial I guess is a factor in it I wouldn't be going for the black dial one it's only a couple of hundred dollars cheaper I think the blue black feed definitely and the James Cameron connection is the one to go for probably the one that's gonna be more valuable in the years to come as well if indeed these ones do increase in price probably the discontinued one is going to increase in price more in spite of its faults that's the lunacy of Rolex collecting and here are the two pieces side by side 2017 on the right 2018 on the left and you can see there is a small but discernible narrowing of the lugs in the 2018 model allowing for an extra mil or so on the bracelet the lug width what is more noticeable is the difference in the class and the size of the bracelet leading into the class two mill there and it makes all the difference in how the watch wears you may be pleased to know that my blood pressure has returned to normal as has my breathing it's amazing what just a mil or two here and there can do to a watch I might have a convert of the deep sea sea dweller James Cameron edition 2018 Baselworld well not really I still don't think this is the watch from me it is a much better model than the one that replaces though just a couple of small difference fundamentally alter the way that this watch wears it is like a completely different piece but it is not a piece that I aspire to it is still too big and too chunky for me and 3,900 metres of water resistance still a little bit pointless in my opinion so there you have it another outrageous piece from mr. X's outrageous collection what do I think of the deep sea sea dweller well I think outrageous is probably the best word to describe this piece it's like a Submariner on steroids what is also outrageous is that the company that sells you the watch retains the warranty card for 12 months to ensure that you don't flip it I get it I understand why they do it but that is truly an outrageous business practice but then again if you want one of these things you're gonna have to bend over and take whatever Rolex wants to give you when I buy one of these for myself not while there is still one Submariner on this earth it looks like a cartoon piece it's far too big is far too chunky four kilometers of water resistance is utterly pointless no no no thanks for watching see you in the next video
