Nice video. Always fun to hear how people from outside the bay area perceive the airspace here. I've hardly flown outside of NorCal territory, so this seems very normal.
I don't have much to compare but ATC here has always been very accommodating (both NorCal and SFO) - so bay tours and city tours like yours are a fun thing to do.

And during COVID one gets to get a little closer to SFO as well :-) (https://www.reddit.com/r/flying/comments/gioiro/low_pass_at_sfo_in_a_cessna_172/)

Before COVID went nuts, Jason Miller and I got to fly from San Carlos just south of San Fran, up to Sacramento for a FIRC he put on, with AOPA. We decided it would be best to do a collab and actually fly up there.

I've been to San Fran once on the ground, and it such a massive city. To be able to fly over it from the air in just a matter of minutes was a bit shocking.

All fun and games (mostly) with Jason along, someone really competent in the area.

every two years of flight instructor needs to do a flight instructor refresher course to keep their certificate I just so happened to be in California at the perfect time to attend one of Jason Miller's perks that he does with AOPA so come along as we leave his home turf as San Carlos just south of San Francisco for a beautiful tour of the massive city the Golden Gate Bridge Alcatraz San Mateo Bridge and so on as we work our way to Sacramento for the FERC [Music] [Music] timing worked out perfect for Jason to pick me up at SFO and as many then we worked our way down south a little bit to sent Carlos lunch of course is always a thing for pilots we've got to be fueled before we go it's just the way it is so we hit up his famous Sky kitchen that he always goes to then we checked out the pilot shop we stopped by one of the main flight schools that Jason instructs at San Carlos flight center now he's an independent CFI but he works tightly with this organization they had a really nice outfit there for those of you who don't know Jason Miller he's a career and professional flight instructor in the Bay Area Jason and I are both proud to call ourselves active flight instructors and that's our primary role in what we do and one reason we get along so well is Jason goes beyond that he founded the finer points where he creates a ton of amazing training content on YouTube has the longest-running aviation podcast that I know of hosts amazing weekend flying adventures he dubs airplane camps for adults I got to actually go to one in the San Juan Islands in Washington State which was just amazing and he's a true professional and mentor to all CF eyes in the aviation industry you can see more of his work at learn the finer points calm and I'll pop up a link at the top of the video here so that you guys can go to his YouTube channel to subscribe you will not regret it OOP secret code not gonna look [Music] this is not 99 for Echo Wow nice it's a great mic it's an older 1979 model that honestly parallel approaches into San Francisco right overhead alright everyone here in San Carlos just south of San Francisco Jason here you guys all know who he is we are headed to FERC a flight instructor refresher course for this weekend we're actually going to blast out of here this is going to be a pretty cool video because we're gonna go over San Francisco with the lettuce is there do they ever not let you sometimes at low altitude but we can go high there's no case to go lower high and we can always go so we can see the city and then we can go over Golden Gate Bridge I think on our way to Sacramento where this is gonna be held this weekend I'm so glad you came down for this I know this sunshine is just amazing look I have shorts on and everything no no and there are nice airplanes around they don't look like crap this is gonna be great alright we're gonna jump in and get going behind and hope you enjoy the views wrong with these [Music] [Music] you just guide me nowhere to go yeah just straight ahead for now keep it free way off your left right there all right San Francisco towers schedule a better a better for FOP to work only 99 for things Katara ident third in class Bravo key probably won't know one of your right maintain VFR out of below 2000 altimeter three zero zero Niner we're in our contact five miles southeast at 1,100 below 2000 south and west of the go right pass SFO pretty killer shots and now you're in the Bravo surface area as of this second here very cool yeah I got approaches going on here we do that's your that's your rpm now you're okay throttle right so you can power up as much as you want and then just dial the prop back well there you go it's pretty unique being able to fly directly past one of the busiest airports in the world like San Francisco here and in any other nation it'd be a no-go so we really have some great freedoms here to be able to do this but our side of the equation is we need to remain compliant at that airspace so for flight is a constant Jason is really paying attention to that and and being careful so I am eyes outside the window just enjoying the view the traffic light you know it's so crazy there's a church across the street from my house and I can already see it's like a pink building on the side of that hill at 12 o'clock okay I think I see it that's across the street for my house really weird so you're like near that wooded area at the top of the hill yeah yeah that's Bernal Hill that's like I sometimes about there for hikes when I've added a or whatever you'll City go up there try to show everyone where you live a seven that's just what I want because it's YouTube or cows Kyle a better a better for Echo two thousands of feet out requests 360 for a photo op in about one mall every night at a park and another part tried to prove Ezra but the open up the litter a30 wondered if maintain VFR lesson thing 101 freeway edible if you double we added below 2000 west of the 101 freeway well I better write metaphoric oh we're lost we totally lost the hospital [Music] 300 climate idea the stick doesn't got a far greater versus when I see it [Music] [Music] okay we had up do this on purpose it's not gonna be make you uncomfortable [Music] there we go thank you for a so Lisa all right so the Golden Gate Bridge and the city I guess but all right the Golden Gate Bridge 12 o'clock come on stop down you know indicate 1500 looking for the traffic Norfolk oh that's pretty close to us opposite direction 200 look Thanks I didn't I was gonna get lower but he's of about 500 other side of the bridge southbound I guess maybe there it's a tough day for it I turned out alright light so there's a 341 Colonel up hitting one a through left idea what a 3.43 41:27 eternal updating 180 yeah that's where he was excelled oh my god about the century of course we do yep door is taking a screenshot of it just so we can see he was circling so he's head there is kind of now 11 o'clock over the ridge turned away from Rosado yeah this funny cuz he might've been south 180c called it but the centuries which showed me he was turning and then Sausalito the best sailing of the world this is where it the movie san andreas looking at that wave that wave freaks me out but I still think of Bernal Heights I'd be okay I'm at 1,200 feet this bridge is due by the way the Oakland side authorities yeah that's the one that collapsed so many years ago it's 89 I guess it was we're not allowed to cross that bridge but I'm gonna parallel let me get closer then get right up to the city of parallel [Applause] [Applause] out of captivity this was the great one thing that I learned which was a little bit depressing but this used to be the west coast's largest salmon run pretty amazing how you can do a few laps around massive city like San Francisco in just a matter of minutes it's amazing how quickly airplanes cover ground but last we need to head towards Sacramento so we'd head west in a little north going that direction passing by Travis Air Force Base and during that time curiosity got the best of Jason and I so let's see what that's all about that's Travis yeah that's the Air Force Base about I climbed a little bit because the Delta is right under us now okay but not under us now but it's like that but technically we up so we can all we talk to Travis approach so clear see that Delta we'd have to talk to Travis tower really yeah I learned something new I thought if you were identified by Delta you could go you could penetrate let me just just see so slow that's right let's just investigate from the controlling agency to go to the Delta see you have to call the tower right approach so are we talking to a guy at that Air Force Base its military yeah he's working the approach sector not the tower sector interesting effectively is Delta so only the cylinder is Delta correct it's not like it's not like a Charlie approach where you talk to them correct but it is an interesting crossover like I wonder if the military might be a little bit different that way I don't know let's ask you slow hey Travis you have time for a quick question for though freckles go ahead none for Echo oh yes sir I climbed a little bit so that I wouldn't penetrate the class Delta surface area and the conversation began in our airplane about whether or not we eat it to do that based on our conversation with you so my question is how'd I float through the side of the class Delta service area simply by talking to you and squawking this number with that a bit at issue for you no reminder for echo if you if we need a job have the Delta with all this no sir okay that's great sir and I'm clearing through it simply by talking to you hey permanent you need to 18 acacia standard the Delta yeah I understand that if the civilian world we'd have to be talking to the class Delta tower and not the approach mr. officer no that's just flowers okay now you can talk to the approach controller with that we take care of the transition went through tower rather that thank you very much thank oh all right yeah both of us I learned two things today since I've been with you the gas cap the gas cap thing is the fact that militaries have degraded in a way that the civilian world's load no sure how that would even be useful but okay another one on the opposite downwind did I hear that right probably I was it I missed that if it is there's a guy behind us nine or four echo November Niner for echo start your base runway to geralyn started now clear to led 2-0 later eight better for echo no 737 my clocks are you're gonna be following a Cessna 182 a mile northeast of our northwest of the airport starting his right race there seven three seven my cluster I thought all that traffic runway 2-0 cleared Lynn gotcha flaps okay there's 40 of this plate be careful yeah I'm not gonna do forty okay it always surprises me these days I live like oh geez well fast probably that off [Music] we're gonna turn right here okay Jason decided that we're gonna buy this Bonanza together it's the dual company orange on the left side we have an angle of attack logo on the right side we have a finer points logo I think it's a winner all right so we just got here in Sacramento I got the plane tidied up and this is the one we're taking back but had a good flight beautiful flight over San Francisco the Bay Area part of the Bay Area big bay but beautiful huge thanks to Jason for providing the opportunity to fly up to Sacramento rather than taking the airline just just fun to share that experience together and that way we could start off the weekend for the FERC in a big and a fun way as a professional myself I honestly just spent the few days totally absorbing the content and being an active and participating student in the class I took lots of notes and learned some things and came away empowered and excited for the future ahead as an instructor a mentor and to guide pilots on their journeys much of that future instruction will be right here on youtube so make sure to LIKE this video subscribe and turn on notifications and come along with me for this big fun ride until next time throttle on [Music]
