hi i'm alex archbull and i've been buying and selling antiques since i was nine years old from basements to scrap yards i'll look just about anywhere i can to find lost antiques and collectibles and sometimes i'll go big and buy everything with my wife and kids we run an antique shop in edmonton alberta canada filled with some of the most unique items we can find i never know what's going to happen or who i'm going to meet this is our life this is our adventure and this is curiosity from home honey [Music] well there's nothing like starting your day in a medical smock a while back i think when i was working on the musician's house i tore my shoulder muscle and we're trying to figure out exactly what's going on there but it meant disrupting this morning for strangers which is always fun um what's the deal with those medical gowns anyway who decides where to put the ties and and the ties are always too small and you can never get anywhere i hate those medical who science has advanced so much over the years and yet nobody's taking five minutes to design a proper smock that actually fits a human being or that you can tie up on your own or and i know somebody's watching and they're gonna be like i can tell you all the reasons why it is well i don't care it doesn't work anyway um today other than that bit of awkwardness um and you know that i just can't have a normal visit like i go into a place like that and the first thing i ask the when to do an ultrasound on my shoulder that's it so what's the weirdest thing you've ever found inside a person i said like you know you've been in there and there's been like a penny or something and they're like no no no but there's this one time a guy came in and he fell onto a tree and uh he thought he had like a little sliver so he he broke it off but his arm was hurting and they looked and there was a whole like branch inside his arm that somehow like the stick went in through his arm and it was all the way through his whole forearm like a foot long and nobody knew it was in there and they had to like do surgery and remove it i'm like and i'm like and then i had to ask was it growing were there like leaves on this thing like inside like it was sprouting like he's becoming groot uh no apparently not it still is gross though um uh so i am on my way i'm leaving the ultrasound place now and i guess i wait you know just for them to tell me what i already know is that my shoulder hurts i do have a whole bunch of stuff i got to do today including uh going on a pic finding some antiques running to the store oh it's gonna be busy day anyway i thought i'd take you guys along for the ride today because why the heck not uh so let's get this party started oh it's a party just with me um i don't have any helpers with me today but i am going to go and do some stuff so you may as well come along too came over to the store because i have a few things i have to put away we did this big house clear out just last week and of that i only brought a small portion of things at the store but those things do need to find a home here i also while all that craziness was going on but oh boy i don't even know how many model kits i bought hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of model kits and they are all lined up in bins behind me the nice thing about this i've already sold them every single model kit that i bought going back to the 1950s all the way through the 80s and 90s every single one has been sold i wholesaled them out to another antique dealer which means i don't have to worry about the space this is taking up for much longer and let me tell you it's taken up a lot of space not only do i have it around the corner it is invading its way throughout the whole store this isn't everything i had three loads like this we're talking probably 60 70 80 bins full of model kits i mean this is definitely a lifelong collection but again all sold and going to a new home which means my focus right now has to be on getting the few things that i brought back from the store put away um getting the store cleaned up and ready to go um and i do also want to do a little bit of work on the old chrysler i bought that's right i barely touched on the fact that i bought a couple old cars um so after i do a little tiny up around the store i'm gonna go back and see if i can get that chrysler to turn over at least anyway i brought a battery with me uh but first step put some stock away i was on the last day in the house they're able to find this little viewmaster and it goes way back look roy rogers king of the cowboys these are old old view masters grand canyon national park sometimes the uh view master slides themselves are a little bit more interesting than even the uh the view master i mean st peter's basilica okay i guess that's probably okay for some people but um you know maybe charlie brown this is the world of peanuts and of course you know the idea with this is that you put it up to a light see if i can get it to focus on it and you can kind of see and can't really see you need the view master to make it work in its full glory but many bored kid in the old days before computers and stuff would have uh sat looking through their view master keeping themselves occupied and i i mentioned this before my great grandma had a view master and that was like the only toy you had to play with when you were a kid and all she had was the queen's coronation 1953. not much to do at grandma's house but a little set like that will find a home nice and easy uh also found the instructions for the rotel or rodol rotel it's probably rotel the hi-fi system that i picked up not only did i find this really cool and high-end stereo system and the instructions i found all the boxes for it too uh so this is for the am fm stereo tuner that's that one right there but that'll go inside the box these are extremely good hi-fi brand and i do sell turntables and things like that so that's a pretty good score to have the whole unit there and even better yet to get the owner's manual with it i brought this little piece back from the house because i saw it was full of stamps and there are a lot of people who do still collect stamps so something like this i'll probably just put out at auction see if we get any takers on it there are some that are unused some that are used um and this looks like it was the inside of an old um like a cash box and i slid back the lid didn't realize it was actually full of old coins so uh 67 that would probably have some silver content it's a silver kennedy half dollar or partially silver maybe or at least it's a 50 cent piece there's some old silver quarters let's see what's in here 64. another half dollar quarters dimes that's getting back a little older it's a hong kong 5 cent piece from 18 what is that 1880 1890 queen victoria on the back when hong kong was another of our colonies united states of america 1899 the v nickel it's always fun to come across some old coins it's an old half penny boy scouts pin little spark plug that looks like it's a champion spark plug i think it's a key chain or like a little watch fob maybe it's obviously it's not a real spark plug but it's got this loop on the top so you could hang it like a pendant but isn't that cool somebody who collects automotive stuff is gonna think that's pretty neat oh a little spin top well that's a really old coin that is that looks almost that's an ancient i believe you can tell from how it's stamped that's worth investigating a nice little ancient coin of sorts in i have here do a little research on that but see how imperfect it is early uh coins like this were it was just raw molten metal and they would just literally whack it with a hammer in the mold or smack them all together and so you'd have these little dye imperfections it wasn't even perfectly round uh and of course later they got a process where they were nice and perfect but this would be oh boy that's potentially you know 800 a thousand years old maybe or more i'll take that one back and try and do a little research on it maybe somebody watching at home will recognize what coin this is it should be easy to identify with that sort of square shape it almost looks roman to me we'll see yeah lots of little treasures hiding in here really old canadian pennies from the 30s so this uh ended up being kind of a fun little uh little box of stuff just inside this one little drawer really really neat i also brought this back to the store too it is looking he's got the sweater tied around his neck they're having a good old 1980s day um this polaroid camera um has the original box it's the impulse they had them all in different colors so this is the uh luster gray finish these are really easy sale there are always tons of people who come into the shop looking for polaroid cameras um you can still buy film form so for me polaroid camera is a very easy item to turn over if you can't tell i still do have a ton of cameras in here uh in my jumble of cameras we'll put that at the bottom because really that's all the space i have for it right now another little neat item that i picked up the other day was this it's a little um it's a tether plane so it is you got this little uh gas powered engine on the front and there's elastic bands that hold the wings on so if it crashes it can kind of uh stretch and not break uh but yeah if you see this kid here holding the line you hook it up to your line you start the engine and you let her rip um and off it goes those are the uh french instructions looks like we're a bilingual channel now but um yeah so that is the idea um you know you just basically stand in a circle and watch the thing fly around over your head it was a big deal back in the 60s and early 70s it's fallen off you know in terms of popularity lately but there are still are collectors who buy these and um and whether they're looking for parts or pieces i think in the car i've got the rest of the box for this too so maybe when i go back out and uh and try and get that chrysler started in a little bit i'll see if i can find the box for it nearing the end of the day i'm getting some hot wheels put away uh getting some soda refilled in the cooler because it's been selling crazy now that has been warmer outside and my friend harry has arrived and what has harry brought me a motorcycle start it might not then you turn the key i don't know all the way over all the way over okay so battery connected key all the way over and then you hold this thing here that says choke okay and you put the fuel petcock to prime okay which is that one and supposedly oh there she goes almost and this bike was sitting since about 1976 and it's in 1970 but it's basically like in brand new condition well you will never have a mosquito in the neighborhood again two-stroke bites the oil believe you when i found this bike it had been sitting since 1976 i think that was the last plate that was on it and um it was crusty the gas tank was not great but they stored it with gas in it which kind of prevented it from getting really bad i guess right now all clean it's all nice and snazzy in there but the rare thing about this bike is that it's 100 original it's never been crashed it's hardly been ridden it's got all little bells and whistles still on it things that often go missing like the little plastic bits and it only has 1 300 miles on it from brand new so for somebody who's collecting a um street legal dirt bike like this like the old kawasaki two-stroke that's going to be quite a little collector piece it's been a good day for vehicles in fact the jag is back from the paint shop as well and i went with a slightly more silvery shade of blue which is very correct to what it would have been when i got it it had been repainted once and they touched the hood up and the hood wasn't quite the same color as the rest of the body but that's not the case any longer now everything matches perfectly uh the only thing i'm waiting for i've ordered some redline tires for it which should be here next week and then we'll get some new tires on it but it is just a pleasure to drive especially on a beautiful day like today so that is it another day done at the shop and uh here i'm thinking i'm gonna have this day to drive around in the old jag and just have fun um and i get a call to stop and go on a pick after this with a feeling i'll be using the full capacity of the hatchback here today as i load the bag full of uh possibly ninja turtles and other stuff oh boy uh anyway guys thanks for watching today's episode um it was a good day i got rid of every single model kit that was there i think you should have seen the stuff that came and went it was a mountain of things that we moved through very quickly and uh that's the trick um i am the man who believes in making a fast nickel and a slow dime sometimes it's good just to turn stock loose even if it's to other dealers they can make some money and then you get your floor space back so off i go to buy more i just said i should get rid of things quickly and here i am i'm going to buy more stuff but it'll sell too that's the whole game every day is like this you buy stuff and sell it off again have a wonderful day guys we'll see you all soon and bye for now looks like i'm not the uh i'm not the only guy out with this classic somebody has a very early porsche on the back of their truck chrome bumpers and all that is a nice little ride that's a 911 t that is a classy and cool car diesel tlc i wonder what they got it for never felt like following a tow truck more in my life and as for what happened with my pick at the end of the day well i ended up with four totes full of ninja turtle stuff plus every kind of ninja turtle accessory you can think of card games kites um you know just everything so i've got some sorting to do but this is somebody who is obsessed with ninja turtles and owned pretty much every ninja turtle character this was their life collection from when they were a kid so i guess my day is not quite done well back at it you
