the hunt for classic cars has brought a guy to Pensacola Florida where I purchased this buried Barracuda this is a 1965 flavor and it's been sitting right here untouched for 22 years guys's going to try to get this thing fired back up and running and not only that but try to drive it 400 miles back home to Tennessee should be fine nope ooo s 10 well let's see what we're in for it's a good looking Grill should be in here [Music] [Applause] [Music] there's Decades of mold on this thing it is humid out I mean thicker than Shakira's size but what's a guy going to do I got a roof over my head well this is a guy need for Pete's sake okay details and information I actually met a father and son they're both fans at an event in Florida a couple years ago and they mentioned this car saw I think three or four photos yep I'll take it I said and big thanks to them Randy and for holding it for me and keeping it here safe and sound this was the dad's car or Grandpa's car and uh he was telling me they did a restoration in the late '90s something like that and unfortunately dad or Grandpa passed away and the car got you know driven for a little while and then pushed back in here and here it sits so it's been painted and I'm assuming it's had interior and at one point over two decades ago it it ran pretty good the other thing that I know is only half of you watching right now are actually we're going to do what we always do let's walk around the rig see what this is going to take or at least guess I mean the wheels are sunk all the way on the ground the rubber's gone I can see that immediately I'm assuming all the rubber hoses and lightning hoses and vacuum hoses and wiring it's probably gone in this thing this is we got our Spoonful and the cth has runneth over over as well but I could be wrong let uh let's see what we got here is this to this car or is this to like an RV it's got some nice script on it we'll start over here on the captain's side less dog mines and easier to walk around looks like a Yamaha tire and S10 Grill so here's the rig she's been sat up long long time 64 to 74 Plymouth made the Barracuda and of course they're known for the 70 to 74 cuz they switched it to an ebody which was significantly shorter and wider actually shorter than the Challenger and had that iconic styling these were kind of a valiant with the unique rear glass they had to actually go and partner up with the company to make just this beautiful back glass which I like was very unique back in the day basically a Fastback Valiant but the paint you get glimpses that it could shine up you know at some point maybe we'll get lucky if it runs gets on the road we hit a rainstorm or something you know what I mean but we got the cop ped caps drilled for performance breaking stuff like that or things okay lots and lots of mold trims all on it that I can see unfortunately it's got rot in some bad places like right here not easy to fix terrible to fix you know up in and around there probably one of the reasons I got a really good deal on this car the back I haven't even really looked at yet I got to move some shrubs there's the plate we'll try to throw this around and get back in there deck lid is shot it's rusted both Corners back and around but I'm happy with the glass I'm happy with the trim on it probably needs some tires fix a flat might get this one though we'll see that's a long ways down the road front can't really see much well that's a good idea locked here again we can see the hood Hood's rotted out bottom side of it same thing this would need pretty extensive repair just trying to think in my head I mean you're talking firewall cowl a pillar work who knows if it's down in the door haven't cracked it yet this side's got even more green stuff on it I don't know what this trim is to I don't think it's to this vehicle so we'll set this over here on this tow truck bed next to the Beetle hood you know by the luggage compartment for the trike seems like a good spot the antenna snapped off that's too bad but maybe we can figure something out there we go can't even see 03 coming on 22 years 21 years all the ply mouth is still on it it looks straight down the side of it though you know like if a guy were to bend at the knee it's pretty good obviously it's been undercover so it hasn't gotten in I don't know if you get hail down here I don't think so get them hurricanes and whatnot but it's about it glass seems to be glassing still there there no DSE it's just weird severe rust unfortunately but it's a solid enough car it's got a great story awesome family history this thing absolutely deserves to be back on the road and that's why I'm here this is to a square body oh there's a key hidden underneath of it put this over on the tiger paaw well it's time to get in the rig cuz we're going to need a key guy likes to start in the boot and uh see if we got any parts or anything like that let's a guy kind of just chew on it's a bolt action we got three pedals oh this one is really bad Fellers and fets really really bad this is probably top four maybe three we've ever had but yeah they the seats look nice it's too bad the glass got sat in here like that we're going to have some permanent ring oh hey there's the keys you can tell because they're upside down you know Mopar life well let's let this air out and get in the trunk see that crease in the seat now let me move this out of the way boy oh really surprised to see that no no I am not little jobber folds down looks like no car parts no engine parts no transmission parts it's pretty good there's a skull to something laying in there we'll ignore that for now let's go ahead and let this just breathe for a little bit that seems that seems fine this side okay it says 14,000 miles but we know that's probably 24 interior should clean up nice it's just you got to wear a full hazmat suit doing said cleanup job Actually I don't even know how I'm going to clean this up to be able to drive in it to be honest that's how bad it is look I said it okay maybe it's the hot dog poo Wasing around me right now but something is just weakening me currently says maybe it's a sweat in my eyes but it's not safe to drive like this we're going to have to clean this up somehow before we do too much in there we don't want to was it this is the an airus rig that takes us down the bar poopa the barel Florida is the one that's going so they already told me it's got a 225 Slant six in here but I can't really get to it we got to get this trailer moved out of the way so I'm going to put some wind in the tires here and see if I can manually yank this thing out of the way and then can a guy get a little more room in here you know and then we'll uh get the power Barn open we're not going to worry about basically anything from these vents backward Ward until this thing runs and runs pretty decent we got 400 miles to go through heavy heavy traffic tolls we got to go across state lines you know there's this needs to run good so I'm not even worried about that until 15 minutes before we leave probably so let me get this moved then we can get under the hood oh I'm just out here dodging around speaking of I find it quite funny people accuse me of being a GM only guy well for crying in the mud I've done more Dodge Chrysler Mopar pmoy things than anything in the last 18 months and sprinkle some Fords in there I really don't care what the make or model is as long as it's neat interesting or deserving speaking of this tire deserves some wind hope you'll hold it little fell pretty sure I just stepped in a land mine okay that one's taking some wind that's the model A doors okay let's see if this one will take some [Music] wind didn't like there we go starter machine it's got a water heater in it Fram filter probably why it was parked it's been Craigslist rebuilt approved 47,000 gallons and rat poo beans real bans I'll get you in here single pot of death braks so we know that's not going to work perfect we got the fuel make it happen here the line is cut the fill tray is missing nope never mind found it over there but it's all here including the smell that you should be thankful you can't smell it is terrible ignition's all there lightning can still in it charging whirlers here it's kind of bent a little weird I don't know what the deal is there that ain't right fans in front of the water heater transmission is there I mean it's all here I wonder if this is what are the chances this does anything seems to oh yeah that ain't going to work so I can already tell oh great more of that more of that stuff okay wow we have our work cut out for us done soak through a shirt I thought Tennessee was hot Moses sandles why did the doctor say move here don't it's bad for you okay I like it's cute how Dodge said they don't know how to do hood hinges so they just did trunk hinges also on the hood it's pretty awesome Mopar it's a Mopar thing okay we got to make sure this engine rotates I stuck my head in there held my breath till I was blue in the face made sure it was a neutralis or what I believe is to be neutralis now I'm going to lean down here and grab this fan and see if the engine rotates we want to make sure this engine rotates 300 60° if possible before we put a bunch of time and money and effort into things like ignition and Fuel and repairs and all of that stuff because it costs money and we really don't want to do that if it's stuck because we might have to just unstick it first which could include end up to taking the head off and various other things so I'm just going to reach in here grab the fan blade Twist on it oh yeah there's that 5 to2 compression just ripping in there okay engine rotates in fact I almost flipped the whole car over you know it's that dad's strength I can't breathe okay I need an IV bag and some tools so I think now we're going to move on to does this have spark can we get sparkles so we're going to need to put a lightning cube in do a fire check we're going to have to file the points most likely does this have digital no it's got a ballast resistor you know we need Sparkles we need compression we got a couple pieces probably not and then we need fuel which we all know is going to be a gas jug in the passenger seat so let's get after it all the various poo around here is getting super heated in the Sun what kind of weed is this is it noxious I don't know if I'm allergic to you so you're getting deleted this should help disinfect you know hand cleaner and if it doesn't you feathers know what I'm talking about right yeah okay this might be the first functional battery hold down I've seen in at least 42 years almost got this whole battery out what an operation them hold Downs apparently hold them down and then it takes forever to get them out you know D last didn't last this time if in a guy is wanting to start something why not start at Super you know this one's got a go handle on it's made specifically for Bara Poopers no this is just the most affordable one they had you know the economy they don't like to talk about them much but they're there back on the floor one year warranty still they're cheaper okay you don't got to get the platin and mums all right I just saved you a bunch of money never do this bad on them so we're going to do that installed is that another mag wheel and an air compressor tank okay M yep sure things and stuff the backs of my knees are sweating speaking of knee update thank thank you guys for all the kind words on my left knee and getting healthy and all of that I broke down finally I got weak and I went to the doctor because it swolled up like a watermelon and a guy couldn't move turns out I have a torn PCL it's a tendon that holds your kneecap on and uh you know walking on it for a week and a half two weeks afterwards didn't help so now I got a big metal brace on I got a robotic leg woo look at the flexibility anyway time time it will heal probably not that's okay I do want to check the dinosaur juice quick because it'd be nice to see if the ignition sticks ignition Stick It and rotate the engine and stuff you know oh yeah blacker than my soul and about three quarts over full perfect so that's uh right on the money okay anything else check check check sure let's turn the key and see if the ignition wiring Works see if the starter works the steel me Junction up here all of that stuff okay plan someone fired up a barb barue that's making me awfully hungry I don't dare sit this yet nothing absolutely nothing here's how surprised I am okay let's get the Leatherman key out see if that crank it yeah kind of sounds like a Mercury 70 out board it's pretty good you know one of six have compression the other five are along for the run so we're we're getting there this it's been sitting a long time it's going to take some time to come around and things need to happen you know so I wonder if it's this relay widget that's bad we've also got a fusible link that's had mice chewing on it for 14 years I don't I don't know yet okay let's see if I can find a digital meter and uh we got to start chasing digitals cuz we need them over at the coil I've never had my mustache sweat so much in my life as right now anyway we need the coil to have power is what I'm trying to say so we can either jump that to the battery but I'd prefer to get the original wire in working cuz we got a long trip home and i' prefer this to not burn down well if I get over halfway I need to get home if it's going to burn down let's do it here is what I'm saying that's what I meant to say okay well I help a guy out with troubleshooting here I got the Lone Wolf 6000 wasn't hooked up here Ford and Mopar were nice enough to put everything you need to steal a car right here on the firewall so you just pop the hood and Bango she's yours you know what I mean she was a gift I don't know where it came from so now I'll get this uh digital meter out see if we got power at the lightning can start tracing things around I'm going to rotate the key on although it's not firing the ignition or the starter hopefully it's lighting up the uh fuse block and everything else that we need to make the car run now can of guy that doesn't seem right 27 28 123 what is this doing I don't know how to run this digital meter one what what kind of Mickey Mouse junk is this is there a certain mode I got to engage says battery one 227 171 one my meter broke somehow so I've got the my backup this one's from 1958 but I trust it so let's see what this says do I got power over here do I got power now it's not saying so got power there 12vt I got power out should be six what was crackling did you hear that uhoh I think we done to broke something yeah I ain't got power now where was this going that's going to the what kind of a Mickey Mouse job we got going on here you got homemade positive running straight to the I better pop the cap off this we might have like a patronic style ignition 12's there nothing there okay let me pop the lightning wheer cap off this sometimes takes longer than anything is is trying to figure out what other feathers did you know what I mean good clad we're on the same page yep so we got the electronical in here and that's why this is all wired goofy you got just the negative going here positive going back to the bance resistor and then the opposite side coming into the coil and yada yada yada okay so now let's just pull the spark lator out hook our peepers right into it and then I think we'll probably just lay that on the engine here and ground it out and see if we're getting Sparkles cuz I don't know that I got a sparkle tester do daby with me and then we can cross that off the list all right pull the spark later out we're on five here just randomly oh yeah she was a runner richer than Elon that's okay AC r44xls looks like and then we're going to ground this I wonder if that'll be enough let's see what I can see negative on Sparkles we all negative Sparkles but is it grounded enough don't know Splash symbol Splash symbol definitely no sparkles so this is where this is going to get really interesting ain't it it is it is I'm getting juice now now I'm getting juice wasn't getting juice before now all of a sudden it's spark ating I wasn't getting power on the other side of the balance resistor and it decided to come around on itself I mean a guy definitely fixed that I had to there's this thing I had stuff on it that I definitely I I'll take credit for that one well we somehow automatically have sparkles I think it has to do with that key the ignition so I'm not going to touch that for probably the duration of this entire rescue until I get home we'll just take it off the battery or something so now I'm putting this back in and we're going to go ahead and dump something flammable down the Yap here I want to hear this thing Make Some Noise preferably not the bottom end is falling out of the engine noise but like can it make combustion noises and wind out of the tail pipes or in this case pipe singular looks to be about an inch and a quarter it could be hopped up no 87 horsepower okay so anyway turn this off it's the only thing we got left old boy here real nice guy says he could smell this car from over yandre in the other shed he brought me some Bowl snot it's an odor eliminator we're going to give that a try see what happens mainly for the inside but oh yeah it's pretty delightful actually okay now dump some of this down here I do everything I can do to avoid using Straight Up brake clean or carb cleaner down the app absolutely terrible for these old engines this has got some two-stroke oil in it it's going to lubricate everything up needle and seat valve train you name it and if it doesn't run you're not just washing your rings down with straight gasoline see what happens oh there's that starter we've been missing I think it kind of tried there for a second no not really little more juice that's just pouring out the bottom this is going to need a complete carb build it's probably got so much vacuum leak that we're not even really carbur in anything okay that kind of tried I wanted to oh course choke Armature is stuck smells like cooked noodles but I'm pretty confident that's just a starter there we go way too much [Applause] perfect wow this one's going to be little bit of a fight Bo we've got just a Sir Mix a lot of smells going on around here man well the indestructible starter has destructed you can tell because of the way that it is it Let the Smoke Out the dying dolphin sound followed by the clicks is usually a pretty good indication she done so I'm going to take this lightning cube out or turn it get a lightning cube with more ccas the old cold cranking amps this one's 550 we're going to go for a 900 then we're going to go ahead and replace the starter and the positive cable we'll leave the sad one alone so we can really get this thing rotating so I think we're going to need it this one's normally they bark off pretty easy this one we got to get her flinging she ain't rotational liing very good on the rips so let me get after it change some stuff out here see if we can get a whirling once again here's the old rig here and I grabbed a new one out of like a Dodge Dakota with a 318 and it's basically like a mini starter it's the next least worstest starter you can get other than that so we'll go ahead and throw this in we just have to make sure that this gets seated properly in the bell housing just fought this on that POA and depending on who makes them and where you get them and what country they come out of these aren't always precise so take care and you might even want to measure this and measure that I'll do the same Yep looks pretty good okay let's stick this in new bigger lightning Cub is in we got new positive cable it's always happy we're going to leave the sad one alone here for now new uh we'll call it mini starters in wired up now this thing should really twist let's try it out oh yeah oh yeah much much much better that's really gonna Aid us at getting this thing to fire off so now let's go back to where we were dump some more juice down the fuel make it happen and see if we can make it happen this time I got sweat coming out of my ears I might have to go shave the mullet off okay A little bit of juice [Music] let we not get the Sparkles again wow what in the devil key still on what happened we going to be chasing mysterious things all day is that what you're telling me power there I got power h not even trying try to fill the bowl nope yeah I'd say we're back to not having spark great can hear something kicking on and off in here anyway tested all the voltage back again and I got it back and I don't know if it's loose connections on this Bish resistor or something but let's try it now fir now it's firing there we [Music] go it ran a little now if I can just figure out how to bottle feed this and run the [Music] throttle I once wonder if the exhaust is restricted really wants to pop through [Music] let's see if I can get into position boy [Music] that sounded different all of a sudden ain't it uh well let me Ponder for a minute it fires a little it doesn't like it really doesn't like it now it's sounding all goofy boy this is too Mopars back to back that have just fought us lighting off we've got spark we've got some compression it's got to be air fuel so I'm going to go ahead and take this fuel make it happen or off and we'll dig into it doubtful I have the right kit but it's got to have a massive vacuum leak or something's going on here and there is obviously an air fuel issue in the past without being disconnected so that's the YK that that off we'll do a rebuild up on the uh Ford hood over here and see if we can get it to you know atomize fuel correctly that would be pretty neat I'm already letting smoke out of the new starter so that's not good we got to save on that if we can clean this up a little bit there is uh some very large raccoon poop in here as well Warg that's pretty pretty cool okay so anyway now it wants to run y well now it's pulling vacuum just out of curiosity cuz I got the cat's toe [Music] science okay so let's uh leave the remaining remain remaining remaindering the remainder let's leave the remainder of the starter alone [Music] [Applause] [Music] so digging through this everything was flowing correctly but one thing that I did find was the floats were in upside down see those we marks on the floats that's from it hitting the bottom of the bowl so they were flipped upside down see the needle so when when this bowl fills the floats float and they close the needle and seat like that that's how they should be well they were the other way and I don't think this ever had enough fuel um the floats I don't think it would have let much fuel in at all so if it did run before it was probably pretty choppy that that didn't however solve our issue with this thing not wanting to run I don't know what's going on there we we may end up going back to spark because I thought I would have you know an aha moment here you know but I didn't accelerator pump was ragged needle and seat were okayish you know this was boogered accelerator pump return spring so someone's been in here but it wasn't enough to go well there's the standing issue one of these on the idle circuit was stuck I guess that probably wasn't helping us but we were feeding it fuel I don't know if you could still yeah you can still see the rust ring on that so that was stuck in there but I'm going to finish this up get her put back together and we'll get it slam back on we'll throw new gasket on the intake um You probably saw me running a file on these I like to see how true they are this one is terrible so see the shiny that's where it's flat where it's dull is where it's low so this is not a very true machined piece which is why it's extremely important you've got a good gasket in this case we're going to have to use the thinner one because of the bolts that we have but if this is shot you're just sucking wind in and it's messing up your mixture you know I.E carburation air fuel things stuff that this that machine does another issue I found is this screw is snapped off in here it should look like um this guy and someone threw a dummy in it which is this Phillips head dropped it in back here to make it look like it had a screw in it but it didn't so this never sealed correctly so now I get to drive all over Florida to try to find this and the possibilities of me finding this are well needle and a tire stack you know what I mean the back seat of this bug is still good frames all there well fuel make it happen here's back on and I have have cranked this thing like you could not believe and it doesn't want to run spits sputters quits over and over and I'm going to burn up this other starter here so yeah this one's uh been a real bugger real real bugger so I'm going to put some uh sparklers in it and I'm also going to test the ignition coil and just make sure we can cross those off the list and and uh keep slowly working through this but I'm running out of time today that's for sure well I double checked the firing order it's pretty much the same as all straight sixes out there you got uh 153624 basically and it is on the money so that's not out I'm really hoping we don't have the dreaded timing chain issue cuz that would be a bugger that is some work and I ain't kidding kid you but we're going to keep at her I'm going to change these out those could be so foul they're not firing properly and we'll just keep keep her feet moving or I should say one good foot just got to you know keep keep going keep your head down and chin up at the same time sparas is changed out let's see what we got now I'm guessing nothing's changed huh well I'm going to have to call her for tonight I not sure we may have to pull the valve cover going to have to ponder on it if we uh pull the valve cover find top dead center of the compression stroke we can watch the valves open and close see if everything's lining up but I mean you could take any push rod engine even without a fuel make it happen or on the intake throw a fuel on it and it should light off if the timing and everything is correct so we definitely got something going on here there's an underlying issue and most likely why I was parked just got to figure it out I'm also going to start calling around around tonight for yet another starter cuz the indestructible Mopar starter is on the way to be destructed again so that's pretty good the bright news is we've what do we do today we we put spark lighters in it that's fine well see you guys in the morning all right put your tools away clean them up I am right now I'm doing it well good morning back on the be poopa here was thinking about it last night we definitely have a fuel make it happen or issue not going to go out and say officially that is the only reason it's not running yeah but we've got some unmetered air going into the intake there and that's definitely not helping us so I put out an SOS on the uh face space and the installator and stuff and I've got a couple awesome people trying to help me Source a Carter one barrel because I've learned that the Holly has a completely different throttle assembly it uses a cable instead of a rod and it's just a whole nightmare the other option would be change it over to a two barrel intake a two barrel carburetor that's also quite a bit of work not a not not afraid of work but we haven't even heard this thing run yet right so I don't really want to get to that point just yet so we're going to still wrestle with this Carter I'm going to go ahead and Jerry up uh some sort of fuel delivery here this morning try to get constant fuel pressure on it see if that'll help see if we can get this thing idling this thing is really fighting me um I would really like to hear this thing run you know more than 5 Seconds we haven't even talked about brakes or transmission or clutch or electrical or any of that stuff yet we've got a long ways home so I'm going to grab a gas can a clicky clacky some fuel line and riging a fuel system to this need to come up with a quick fix for that broken screw on there something that might help us gauge if that's really the issue I got an idea and it involves vice grips boom you know is it a dumb idea if it works is kind of what I'm saying that should help for now if that resolves the issue I'll think about taking the fuel make a happer off drilling the base plate tapping it trying to find the hardware doing all that stuff but just not get carried away so we got the hose ran down here to the clicky clacky I'm going to get a Milwaukee battery and we'll jam it into this that'll be our power source we'll let that bowl fill we know we got an accelerator pump just put it in and we'll try to crank this thing again with constant fuel pressure and see if we can get it to run off of the fuel Mak happer rather than just dumping a bunch of stuff down the Yap okay here we go can hear it filling and needle and seed is working so we should have squirter action there we go all right now let's get this thing hooked back up see what happens wow for Pete's sake I got everything unhooked here that was more good her [Music] a few more shots here [Music] right back to where we were going to dream about that starter Noise Okay let me check the idle air fuel mixture screw um we're probably going to have to start thinking about double cheing this timing chain oh well guy cleaned the timing tab down there with some brake cleaning best I could scratched it with the old uh standard Ru River made sure that it's pointing at number one over here went ahead and loosened that a little bit we're going to make some timing adjustments try it again the timing chain does have a lot of slop in it but doesn't necessarily mean that that's jumped so I don't know it just sounds like it's not something going on with timing in my ear because again we talked about this yesterday we should be able to get this thing to at least fire off and idle for a minute so we'll see what happens well can a guy even get the lid on there we [Music] go oh there it goes needed a whole bunch of timing throwing at it all right yes see if we got an exhaust blockage oh I hear it oh a bunch of stuff came [Music] out well that's a relief just got to work through the processes you know the fuel make it happen or still isn't hard but it's alive and running so that's good we're going to let it sit here for a minute and just chew obviously nothing in the fuel tank because the fuel pump isn't ping [Music] [Music] oh I wish you guys could smell this right now Oho what is that noise I don't know we better see what that is wonder if the key will shut it off oh well well guys topped her off with some ice cube juice I like we run this thing a little bit more see if the thermostat's going to open look at that yeah old vice grip rebuild hanging in there it smells really really really good let this run for a minute it's been many years many many years see if the head gasket we'll do head gasket things want this oil to circulate we'll try to get all the sludge to the bottom of the pan and then we'll change that had plenty of oil in it this ain't going to hurt nothing she's running rough but it's running didn't like that oh come on [Music] huh really [Music] wow help me understand this [Music] one go it's been fighting had to verify we had spark again and then had get set that precisely it's not knocking is what I'm saying that fuel make it happen or is not going to work we're not able to Source anything locally trying to work out a deal with a vendor on evil Bay right now to see if they can overnight it which is going to not be cheap but we need it but what we're going to have to do is kind of odd we're going to have to put a pen in this and just hope that it magically starts running way better and start working on the rest of the car while we're waiting for a fuel make it happen or solution it's risky it's a Gamble but here's how I'm looking at it either end or we're up again it I don't even know if we're going to be able to drive this thing but if we can't I still got to get a toad and stuff like that so we're going to have to address the flat tires all of that stuff anyway might as well start looking at the brakes and all that stuff so let me get a jack let's get the front end up get the front two tires off maybe we can find a tire shop get some rubber on the front and kind of just start working our way through some of this other stuff while we're praying and hoping for a solution for a 318 V8 I mean a one barrel Carter well it took 19 years of digging going to have to do the front put them on and then do the rear kind of in a stage I don't have although we have plenty of stuff around here to try to prop this thing up on maybe Amira 300 seized moving for tonight this just dig in on brakes brake master cylinder stuck to the floor we know that's bad we got to yank this drum off it's seized I'm sure it needs rubber lines and wheel cylinders wheel weights on the outside wow okay they're Iron Mans cheapest ones I can find just got to throw these on the front quick just so I can support the car and then I got to dig my way to the back try to get a jack underneath of it somehow and get the rear tires off fell I just snagged the car from has a buddy said that he'll he'll change them in a shop for 20 bucks a piece so I got to hurry up and get over there and then unfortunately I think that's going to do it this entire day was pretty well shot we didn't get nothing done so it'll be dark and uh come back tomorrow and then make a decision put this on a trailer or fart around out here see what we can and cannot get done but it's looking pretty bleak getting this on the road I'll tell you that much oh I got to move all this tin some cute little hub caps came with the car but now I got to knock all these wheel weights off to even run them this wheel rotates which is nice maybe only three are stuck sweet well the guy's got Captain inside rear off she's locked too kind of a view on the inside got a drive shaft and a muffler what else could we want some sort of Critter was digging a hole in there okay so let's uh ease this down oh that was not ease and it's barely on Jack is already messed up full of sand now the Piston doesn't do piston thing's very good let's try that I don't know sure why not okay now we'll get over the and then we can make a trip to get these tires mounted at least we can get that crossed off the list don't run or move but boy she going to have fresh Iron Mans look how sketchy that is ah it's fine here on my Pine jack stand and this side's locked so we're going to try to get this off GNA try to save this drum I do have two drums but because Mopar they make 19 different front drums and 17 different rear drums I ordered two because how does a guy even know so we're going to try to get this off by saving it what I'm going to do first see these have neurals in them that's part of the problem is I'm going to whack this with a hammer in between the studs see if I can knock it Loose most likely not and I got a polar that we might have to put on here but you risk warping your drum doing it that way but it will in fact get it off it's just uh you got to be prepared to replace Parts speaking of Parts as a reminder we are now on our own there is nothing open today there is nothing open tomorrow tomorrow is my last day to do anything with this car because that only leaves me about 3/4 of a day to get home in which I go directly into a episode of roadworthy res rescues some of going to damage this drum well I got my rig hooked up here and basically this is just a hydraulic ram and I gave it a crank and it's already flaring this on these neurals I'm going to get a torch in here I got a little bottle torch try to heat this up and I'll give it a couple cranks for pressure and then whack on it with the hammer otherwise this thing is going to get we literally have to tear it off of the studs and then there's zero going back after that lost a nut first thing I did when I pulled this out of the case somewhere in the quicksand never find that again [Applause] pulling the experience 99.8% chance these are clogged or closed off constricted which means we have to fight that fitting and try to get that off without the line snapping no no that'll never happen it's going to 9 in wheel cylinders for this rig because Mopar got to have 74 options the good news is I don't have the 9 in for the front only the rear the 10in for the front won't work so of course I called every part store and 947 square miles no one has them because they first question why I'm working on a 65 Barracuda and then they want to know if it's four-wheel drive and if it has a Hemi and once I get through those questions no they don't have them luckily the O'Reilly distribution center in Mobile Alabama has them the plan is to leave tomorrow morning around 6:00 a.m. get there pick those up and then drive all the way back to Florida so we could try to get brakes on this thing so what I have decided to do to keep our feet moving cuz that's the only way to finish any project let's get back to seeing if we can make this thing run with what we got never mind yet another industry constructible Mopar starter has spontaneously deconstructed so I guess I'm leaving again see if I can find Mopar rebuilt this carb was a I think a friend of a friend of the previous owner put the floats in upside down broke some Hardware off and I think one of the accelerator pump rods got bent in disassembly and uh I a mad he was trying to learn trying to figure stuff out trying to be helpful but then it was a secret sauce of getting the lower throttle blade to actuate the accelerator pump correctly not knowing what shape that was supposed to be in Wist figuring out which hole it needed to be in in the lever because you can adjust these kind of like a holly you can tighten down the nut or change the spring on this one you just change the lever point and that'll give you more or less shot we might have got it here [Music] nope wonder why it spits like that let's check the timing again [Music] wa it works [Music] it might could take a little more but the way that these Distributors are set up there's only a little window that it'll slide around in speaking of hot we should see if it'll restart the deal we got to see if the rear Main's going to hang in there and then we'll shut it off here in a little bit feel pretty confident about changing the oil now that that's not going to be a waste of money anyway it just snuck my head in the door there electronically nothing works on this car except the driver side dome light it's good that's what we need hey while this is cooking uh Randy was nice enough to find me this thing's like a mouse sucker 900 I've never seen anything like this that's got a 24 horse motor on this thing or something any who I'm going to drag that back here put a it's got no air flow and no shroud um but it runs and I have a feeling it would probably start if I hit it again now that we got that carb Loosely halfway wrong you know we'll just put it on the list stuff to do later so anyway I'm going to make a run quick before it gets dark maybe we can get this interior halfway cleaned up we can run it a little bit more and then what we got left brakes clutch transmission rear end bearings headlights tail lights I don't does it have a had a plate on it didn't it figure that out we got to get it out of this yard 400 miles home I guess or whatever back okay got some simple green some wind Deck some other stuff by the way I'm coming out with something like this BCE scrip garage and it's going to be tough enough to remove mold and light skins and stuff from paint trim stainless clean the glass but safe enough to use on things like seats and dashes it's going to cut through all that stuff been testing it for for quite a while now coming out pretty running again for a while it's uh running a little bit better it's chewing on the bur I think I'm going to move on to fuel pump and fuel tank we got to dump some gasoline in this thing see if it's actually going to Pump Fuel and what that fuel likes looks like from the tank here if it's full of rust and sediment and particles and all that that obviously isn't good for us we're going to need the capacitor so I think I'm going to dump what's left of this in the tank run down to the gas station quick get another 5 gallons we'll invest in that make sure there's enough in the tank so we're not questioning well maybe it's just too low and that's the reason it's not pulling any fuel out of there you know and then uh we'll fire it up and if all goes well it's going to spurt Fuel and then we can get this connected and get rid of this clicky clacky of course we'll put a filter and some other stuff in there um we could deal with some sediment it's just if it plugs a filter sitting here idling which is usually my test about a 10-minute idle it ain't going to make it on the highway that's only about 5 minutes so we'll see what we can come up with back from my 97th trip got some Gaz or lean got to keep a little bit of this run it off the clicky clacky until hopefully we see this pump from the mechanical pump most likely what's going to happen is we're going to have to drop the tank on this or run fuel jugs because we're running out of time pickup is probably plugged like usual oh boots got a little bit of a shine there they needed it let's be honest looks pretty goofy with the interior nice and clean and the exterior dirty I ain't even going to worry about cleaning it up until we get it home getting it home is the priority right now we'll clean the glass off keep the Smokies off the tail and also to see if we we get it driving that is but we'll clean it up later we have all the right supplies and tools that should be enough to pull some fuel let's fire it up see this thing somehow and even see if I can access the fuel tank and take a look at it we may attempt to get the original tank tanking instead of uh running fuel jugs on this it sure is a lot nicer than running hoses all over the place and you got to stop like every other exit be nice to just bomb home Cannonball this thing and but if it's going to be a lot of work and way too difficult then that's just what we may have to do and being we're down in Flor Obama guy might could find a boat tank well never mind it's holiday weekend everything's closed but uh yeah that's that's where we're at that's chunk of wire right here actually see if I can borrow some of this and uh we'll have to just keep working it through this passage until we get it cleared up got this little flat screwdriver here since we got a nice horizontal shot I'm going to try to work this through boy this one is is really plugged then I hit her with a little bit of juice takes time fill this up and then we'll let the juice work with us see oh yeah right if we can get this working today that'll be a big victory and then tomorrow we got brakes after I drive a million miles to get get wheel cylinders you can get back to work on that and then see if this thing moves in the 11th hour and uh see if we can make a home this is going to take a while I'll keep working on this just had a wild idea and I just heated this up with a torch in the elbow right here where there was still Gunk and they just started of flowing out like tar so I'm going to keep doing that see if I can clear this up and then that'll be a trick we can put in our tool bag to get these unclog quickly especially around like elbows like that don't really want this float burn there we go but that can burn all it wants to and get hot enough to get more of this stuff out looks like it's down to the end now I could see it I know you guys can't tell you something about something something other too it's about 42 minutes 13 seconds later but look at this I haven't figured out how to play music yet but it's passing Fuel now I will light this FL on fire because all this Gunk on here is going to it's super heavy so it's just going to sink put a hook the old Wind Maker onto this and I can make wind but it ain't going through it so we got the tank unplugged but now there's a block in the line great so I think what I'm going to do is go ask this FEA here if we can use a wind maker machine and a hose and uh come out of here and try to just really get after it and blow it through and just blow the blockage into the tank whatever it may be hopefully soon about to lose light well he is not home and I don't feel comfortable digging through his stuff he does have an air compressor and a hose right there and I'm sure he'd be okay with me using that he's said help yourself many times really nice guy but I can't find a blower nozle I think I'm going to shoot down the road grab one of those and then we'll try that tonight Sun's we got about 40 minutes and and a little less actually and then uh if that doesn't work we're just going to have to run our own line tomorrow which shouldn't be too terrible sure bad but at least we're going to know what we're up against uh we get a starting and running still haven't checked clutch fuel tank should be clean the fuel systems done ignition's done really it's brakes run a line test some things but tomorrow is your last day so I want to get as much done as I can today so going to run down yet again get some gas on me oh no what am I getting blower hose oh I should get some more gasoline too blower nozzle achieved came in here and blew this out hindsight being binoculars I should have done that when we started any who let's grabbed this hose we're hoping for bubbles I've got fuel pumps are not fun to change on the slant sixs because they're right next to the motor mount right up against the fender well that does not come out because Mopar and then uh actually this one might is just a bolt unit no can't be and um hoping it's just a weak pump cuz we're still not getting a bunch of fuel from the back once this thing is running self-sufficient getting fuel all of that we know it probably might have 17 horsepower to go down the road then we'll jump in brakes my favorite yeah so like a guy was saying there's a bolt way under here you can't even see and another one B next to it on the other side this this side maybe a Jobe underneath this way because the motor mount is in the way and the front side maybe we can get it from the bottom I'm thinking but either end who where way this is got to come out I think I'll do the lines first because it's got some stability while she's mounted up to the motor here it's crazy how they hermetically seal on there like that and we can also double triply check we don't have any restrictions on that line uh before we go through with this as well looks like I need a half inch so these fuel pump clicky clockies are meant to push not pull meaning this is the wrong position for them they should be closest to the fuel tank as possible however I want to check and make sure that this fuel pump is bad before we go through this painstaking process so I've got it just hooked in right now and if I run this and this pulls fuel easily then we know we have a pump issue and not a line restriction okay here we go oops well this's just stick this one in then I'll run this one oh yeah just dumping fuel [Music] yeah there's no line restriction whatsoever so that verifies if this thing can work incorrectly that pump is just shot after sitting all these years so let's rip it out as a backup Backup backup we can run this clicky clacky if we needed to this is laying over here because I've been prej juicing my line which I can't see now do that go I think you guys had a better view than I did hopefully I hit something old pump is out this one's been on it a long time you could tell because it got hit during the Craigslist rebuild on the engine there which sounds like it was in late '90s something like that very very early 2000s so it's been on there a long time I'm sure the diaphragm and spring in this one just shot so we're going to be putting in this one they look different but they should hopefully do the same thing it's what I'm hoping that was the cheapest one I could find okay that fuel pump is in that design was a little bit easier to get the bolt started actually had to bend up the supply line a little bit pull the coil out to get it started let me turn that so it doesn't work there we go but I think I'm going to make a change here I've only got this one filter right now I got enough line here so I'm going to take this filter and put it here and then make a loop so the filter is before the pump I want to protect this fuel pump now so if there's any big chunks and stuff coming in no sense in clogging up that diaphragm and the orphosis is and that unit so we'll move the FI tray from there to here probably up over here or something so we can monitor it before it gets to the pump or the fuel make it happen I do have a starter core to return oh I don't think they're open today never mind I have to try to find a filter I thought I bought a micro guard one a 30 33 which is also made by man and ham same thing as a Wix and uh it would be nice to have a couple on board if we actually get this thing moving just so if we have to do a quick filter change boop boop no problem and then this this goes over here now here we go that out to work okay I need a longer chunk actually I got a chunk right there on the ground that used to go to the clicky clacky so we'll use that piece on [Music] here and then I think pretty confident we're going to be set as far as fuel goes so we mozzle changeed the oil we've been talking about it procrastinating let's just get it done ran it on this old stuff long enough viscosity doesn't just disappear with age it still had viscosity and everything but it is old sure it's got some junk in it so let's drop it get some fresh stuff in here something with a bunch of zinc all the vitamins and minerals these old flat ta cams like and want all right that's in this Fram is torqued on for some reason Good Wrench I can even fit my wrench in here what in the devil well help me understand this why you got to have a 900 ft-lbs there we [Music] go let's get rid of that thing of course we're throwing a Wix back in we want something to actually be filtered and they're affordable a going to lie okay write the date and the miles on these Fellers and fetes so someone knows what in the world is going on here we go get my drain pan let's get this oil down M dinosaur juice going with 2050 get some real thick stuff in here and this has got a lot of zinc and phosphorus all the dinosaurs vegetables these little flat taets need fortunately can't fill the filters on these cuz Mopar decided to put that upside down so you know you just run them without oil pressure every time you change the oil it's fine it'll eventually come around ouch that is sharp watch out okay got the big gulp on this one it's pretty good not bad shaking a little bit you know we haven't got to lunchtime yet if you know what I mean there we go okay we can cross something off the list yes oil change well let's crank this thing over this morning see if we can pull some fuel with brakes here and basically just pumping on myself letting off of the pedal Going To Each corner and cracking it letting all the air out and shut in the valve again takes a little bit longer but it will work you don't have to actually hold the pedal to the floor contrary to poer to belief and I'm starting to get a pedal so far I have not exploded any hard lines believe it or not but I'm sure I probably just jinx myself so since I just cracked it we'll have a little extra pedal play but then boom look at that solid pedal I'll crack it one more time on the front I think we got brakes well Fellers and Fells here we are bolting on Wheels tires I can't believe it but I guess I got to I'm looking right at it you know here we are which means here in just minute I got a fixed throttle on this it's got that box style linkage I've got to uh take care of make something work then I'm going to drop this down throw this in gear and see if this clutch works if the transmission works if it's going to move under its own power then what do we test this thing I don't know that we even got time time and does it matter I think we just jam it on the highway start ticking miles off you know what I mean okay good GL we agree need a socket good idea I took the spacers out of here I'm not sure why they were in there Popa must have lik a little wider stance maybe but the lug nuts weren't really engaging much didn't like that so and also we only have well we're missing one per wheel I think at minimum so let's make sure what we have locks [Applause] up there we go no interference okay let the would say h hint wonder where they got that from think I'll use these big towels to try to get the majority then we'll come back around with some paper towels and doll it up just thinking out loud here it's a bunch of adjustments that need to happen on the transmission side there is a lift over here and that would save us a bunch of time I know it's technically cheating but it is what it is at this juncture a guy has got to hit the road we could throw it up on there maybe hopefully it's just fixed Itself by getting soaked down with juice you know we'll try it again here in a second hoping it's all just in this column right here so I'm just going to start soaking this down and uh while that's doing that I'm going to start cleaning packing organizing got to run at the gas station filled a 5 gallon jug put that in the tank as well and just start kind of prepping for could a guy leave you know just in case we actually can and this somehow magically fixes it transmission test take 17 if I can get revers then first should be there make sure I'm on the right throw see set three on the tree so it's an H pattern [Music] sideways got nothing but forward here [Music] that's an issue that's to it's family heirloom you know love it that right there makes it worth all the work well good morning final day on the Barracuda here I brought a gas jug with me we're going to fill that up and first stop we're going to make is a fuel station but guys got to make sure he can get there also I have decided to go ahead and change the charging worlder now I noticed yesterday when Randy was toodling around and when I was the gauge was showing you know a draw or dead uh was not charging and I broke my meter [Music] somehow so I can't verify but we're just going to trust the gauge and the dash so let's go ahead and swap that I got one and then we're just going to hit the road we got to just start getting some miles down we got a little over 400 to get get back home old one is out this thing is just full of junk new one's in that should be the last thing we've got to do we'll get this fired up and warmed up here and then craw it back out of the yard there now she says it's charging let's crawl this over to the fuel station top it off and then I'm just going to find a highway we can jam this thing on well that don't sound right wow I'm going to say that's bad huh oh these stupid comps these days this one won't even work I'm just going to have to ignore whatever that's doing try to get some miles down and uh I got the other old one not that it was charging very good but we'll see what happens almost got stuck at a stoplight yeah that's running bad bad bad I don't there's no way I'm going to be able to do highway speed third but any more than that much throttle which is nothing just falls on its face spits and sputters boy may have to rethink this I'm not out of town yet I've stalled it in several intersections I got to absolutely melt the clutch of this thing to even get it to move has no power whatsoever and it's starting to get hot of course cuz I'm beating on the thing trying to keep up with traffic but 400 miles is looking not good not very good [Music] all the faster I can get it to go very top or front of second gear must be downhill we're picking up [Music] [Applause] [Music] speed this thing just crawled across me as I was getting out some sort of fly or something anyway I think that was it she not happy it's uh was barely pulling first gear got fuel well I've been sitting here tankering around for quite some time now she ain't firing not even a sputter it's I think it gave what it had 400 miles no 14 yes we did do that still calling it a victory after 22 years it R and drove we pulled it out of the backyard under its own power Randy the grandson got to drive it which I'm very thankful for some cars just don't like being thrown right on the highway after a big nap like that and this is one of them unfortunately but I still had a lot of fun we still saved it it's still coming home with me I'm just going to thumb myself to a U-Haul get a truck a trailer throw this thing on there get it back to vice grip Garage in Tennessee and
