everything anything that is of quality we depend on you for it the quality of our existence the quality of our life lord we know is dependent on you as we come now seeking your help seeking your intervention seeking your guidance seeking from you a sense of direction lord there many things that we could ask of you this morning but time would not have us to ask you or asking you all of these things those are a few things that we shall ask of you this morning lord we come to you asking with confidence because you have said that we should ask and it shall be given seek and we shall find that you shall find knock and it shall be opened unto you and lord we believe that even though there are only few things that we may ask relatively speaking that you are such a wonderful gracious god that you will grant us even those things that we fail to ask those things that we don't remember to ask those things that will not even think of or imagine among the few things that we ask you this morning lord is to bless somebody today with the mind to accept jesus christ for salvation there are persons who are listening listening and viewing we pray lord that your holy spirit will go among these people for your god of every space virtual space real space any space that you are omnipresent god and this more we ask you to allow your holy spirit to challenge the heart of somebody who is not saved let somebody lord be given a testimony today of your salvation of your saving grace in the name of jesus lord even as we ask for the reality of salvation for somebody we think about the reality of individual situation lord generally speaking we are all experiencing hardship that's what first never imagined that we would have experienced so in a general sense we are impacted by corporate 19 on all the things that are manifestation of the core with 19 reality including constant increase in prices we find that what we could buy at the start of the year that we can't even buy half of it now for the most part lord for many persons that is we do know that there are those who are able to do it but lord a number of persons lord are experiencing hardship because of the increase in cost of living while the ability to buy has gone nowhere whatsoever intervene god i pray god that somebody's needs shall be supplied right now in the name of jesus meet some physical need right now god meet some grossery need right now lord meet some financial need right now god lord somebody who does not have a meal caused them to get a meal in the name of jesus i pray god that even as the church ministers to those who are needy free those were exploited those were excluded that god will make the church even more aware of the need to do so even as we continue to do so provide the church lord with a way where there's our will in the name of jesus and caused the church to be continued to be a shining light a shining light in the midst of the darkness of this world caused the church to be like an oil to look to and provide the church not only with the heart and the will but with the respect for determination among the few things for lord in the midst of it all even those who are and sisters we sharing the lesson from matthew chapter 25 and i will start at verse 31 when the son of man comes in his glory and all the angels with him he will sit on his glorious throne all the nations will be gathered before him and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates sheep's sheep from the goats he will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left then the king will say to those on his right come you who are blessed by my father take your inheritance the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world for i was hungry and you gave me something to eat i was thirsty and you gave me something to drink i was a stranger and you invited me in i needed clothes and you clothed me i was sick and you looked after me i was in prison and you came to visit me then the righteous will answer him lord when did we see you hungry and feed you or thirsty and give you something to drink when did we see you a stranger invite and and invite you in or needing clothes and clothed you when did you when did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you the king will reply truly i tell you whatever you did for one of the least of your brothers of these brothers and sisters of mine you did for me then he will say to those on his left depart from me you who are cursed into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels for i was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat i was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink i was a stranger and you did not invite me in i needed clothes and you did not clothe me i was sick and in prison and you did not look after me they also will answer lord when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison and did not help you he will reply truly i tell you whatever you did not do for one of the least of these you did not do for me 46 the last verse then they will go away to the eternal punishment but the righteous to eternal life the word of the lord thanks be to god our hymn of meditation i will serve thee because i love thee you have given life to me i was nothing before you found me you have given life to me heartaches broken pieces ruined lives are why you died on calvary your touch was what i longed for you have given life to me after which the next voice we'll hear is that of our preacher reverend robert campbell i will serve thee because i love thee you have give life to me i was nothing before you found me you have given life to me heartaches broken pieces ruined lives are why you died on calvary your touch was what i look for you have given life to be i will serve thee because i love thee you have given life to me i was nothing before you found me you have given life to me heartaches and bro can [Music] you're [Music] you have given life to me [Music] is [Music] is [Music] me do you have given love to me you have gifts life to me amen i will serve you lord because i love you the life in the bodies can say that this morning that you are serving god because you love him and we can only love him because he first loved us praise the lord somebody hallelujah thank you very much for the invitation to share in your worship service today and as i share with you a bear in mind the the theme for mission month keeping faith with the word affirming others you would have noticed that the bible studies said valerica slanted it says embracing others the theme really is keeping faith with the word affirming others as i share bearing in mind that theme i want us to be in mind the passage read from matthew chapter 25. verse 31 to 46 so lord bless your word onto our hearts and glorify your name we pray in jesus name amen let's bear in mind but when we talk about keeping faith with a word a key word to be in mind is the word obedience in other words keeping faith with the word is about living in obedience to the word of god no matter what all kinds of changes are taking place in the world all kinds of changes are happening around us impacting us in all kinds of ways very often in very negative ways and i say that despite the fact that i believe that some of the challenges that we face as a result of changes are given to us by god to use as opportunities to use as opportunities but this fights the changes that are taking place the challenges that we're experiencing we ought to keep faith with the word the only constant keep faith with god and his word that is to live in obedience to it but when we talk about affirming others we are talking about making others feel valued feel cared about and cared for and there is a term that was coined some time ago that sometimes we refer to it the term that is called a sense of somebodiness that affirming others is to make them feel like somebody a sense of somebodiness like you belong like somebody is interested in your well-being and your welfare that somebody cares no i believe that if we are keeping faith with the word among the things that we must do is to affirm others for the word of god expects us to affirm others so keeping faith with the word affirming others is about serving them it's about ministering to them and among the persons that were referred to as others as we contemplated the theme are those who are exploited are those persons who are excluded those persons were expanded used like commodity for we live in a world in which too often what happened is that we love things and use people love things and use people and a lot of that is happening [Music] because all we think of oftentimes is me myself and i and so in the world we have a lot of persons who are exploited excluded and expanded are used were left to feel like they are nobody's child just like a flower they are growing white no mummies kisses and no daddy smile to feel like nobody wants them that they are nobody's child and so we have in the world all kind of categories over the ages it seems as if human being has a tendency to divide themselves into categories and we find no ideas that there's another category being added to the categories and it is the vaccinated and the unvaccinated category and this is not suggesting what i must take the vaccine or not that was saying that there is this category that is existing now because we have a way of creating categories so over the years there have been a category of those who see themselves as but it is empowered category that is exploited we find that there's a category that is included of everything a part of everything while there's a category that is excluded deprived of everything all kind of categories and among the things that happen is that there is a single category with many verses included that is called the less than category less than for they are seen as less than anybody else less than category as you look in the text we see this kind of category that was considered the less than category with a number of persons mentioned i wanted to note in the text that there are about six sub-categories in this less than category it takes points too does follow it takes a little bit that there's this sub category of the less than category that we could call the destitute those who are hungry and needed to be fed there's a category that we could refer to as the desperate subcategory those were thirsty and needed to be quenched and this thirst could be more than just thirst for something to drink physically it could be thirsty for all kinds of things thirsty for somebody to give them some attention but here's the desperate thirsty category then there's a category of the dislocated are the strangers that you need to welcome the category of deprived those who are naked naked because they were deprived of some of the basic necessity of life the category of the disease like many normal days of them being backed up by kobe 19. so we said they are the sick we need to visit and don't abandon and there's a category of the denied those who are imprisoned and deny free access freedom to certain of the basic things of life also there's a kind of less than category that it takes points to in which we find at least six sub-categories destitute desperate dislocated deprived diseased and denied these are who we are referring to as others i suggest to you the text is pointing to the fact that these persons were in the less than so-called less than category are persons that jesus identified himself with for i said when i was hungry you feed me naked your clawed me and he continued for the least you have done unto one of the least of these you have done it unto me it is an identification with a category that we neglect that we exploit that we abuse that we misuse that jesus identifies himself with also in the text despite of the fact that when we go to this text what we see more than anything else is the separation eventually and smart force kingdom kabul see because we can begin to say i'm a belong to the sheep i'm beginning to get a look self-righteous but i believe it takes cause us to a time of real self-examination self-examination as to whether or not your real identification is in christ jesus as to whether or not you have been treated those who jesus identifies with as you should if you have been serving them ministering to them those that jesus identifies with as i showed him i believe that there are three things that we must be a remind from the text if we have to serve according to god's expectation to serve in obedience to the word of god there has to be an awareness of reality first thing an awareness of reality i ask you this question to what extent are you aware that there are those persons around you even beside you within your tone around your church where your work to what extent are you aware that there's a category of people that we exploit and neglect that jesus identifies with that we need to spend time ministering to and serving to what extent are we aware but there's a part b to the question it is to what extent are you aware not only that they exist but you are aware that you are supposed to be serving them and you are not doing enough in terms of serving them you are doing less than what is expected of you if anything at all that jesus spent time trying to create this awareness that there's a category of people that need special attention that we very often pay special attention to those who are loving and lovely to those who are nice and decent in our eyes to those who are kind to us to those who we can get back something from but to what extent are we aware that we are supposed to be ministering to a category of people who maybe cannot give us back anything those who need us most but who we don't have much time for jesus spent time trying to create this awareness from the very start of his ministry so some of us will remember according to luke 4 oh and jesus was going to start out his ministry he took the scroll and read from isaiah the spirit of the lord is upon me for his anointed me and he went down to mention these categories they are sub-categories of the less than category who were neglected by the very church people so to speak the religious people to be more accurate scribes the pharisees religious leaders who very often were pretended to be pretending to be interested through the prayers that they pray through the answer they give through the fasting they went into but then we noticed earlier in matthew oh jesus tell them that he was that impressed with them they have the reward god the word does seek in the glory of man and the glory of god there were not genuinely interested in the welfare and well-being of those who god through christ identifies with and those who needed the most a lot of it was really self-interest more than eight years jesus spent time trying to create the awareness and the text is an example of jesus continued effort throughout his ministry to create the awareness that there's a category of people with different sub categories that he identifies with whom we often neglect who we don't give the attention that they need we don't serve as we should that we need to serve even more or start serving better also jesus in speaking in this third parable in the three part of the chapter was really trying to create this awareness that those who see themselves as righteous but your self-righteousness would see the error of their way and be aware that their righteousness will succeed that of the scribe and pharisees which was basically self-serving and not serving the purpose of almighty god so jesus spell it out that there's a category of people that are hungry you need to feed them a category of people that are thirsty you need to give them something sick those who are neglected and those who are dislocated and those who are desperate and we could go down the road much further i want us to bear in mind that this creation of awareness that holy living is about being aware that there are doors we need to take care of is something we see from old testament time have you spent time reading exodus liberty course onward you would see that there was always a kind of social safety net for some persons who need a special care take for example leviticus 19 which comes in a context of be he holy as i am holy said the lord among the things we see here is that when you clean your field don't take up everything leave something for those who need something to eat the strangers who are passing to the land those who are not fortunate like you you can read all of that in leviticus chapter 19 a social safety net but this previously he does in the day and reached the point where jesus says of them in matthew 23 that they are tithing even of the very small thing like mint and coming yes till then he let the widows and i want to take a look a note here that every time we read something about all the treated widows following that there was always a story of the widow giving the two nights and then followed by the story of judgment but there's a lot of contrast there that the scene with us who are supporting their ministry that they are the same ones you neglect there shall be judgment upon you get it read it to the four gospels you will see what i'm talking about that jesus was talking about something that comes from out of the word testament that the people of god must be aware that if nobody else ministers to those who are seen in the world as less than that we must do it because why we are not people of the world even though we live in the world we are people of the world so our obedience should not be guided by what the world does or how the world thinks it should be guided by the world and so we cannot like those of the world neglect and abuse live a life that is self-serving that we must be aware that there's a less than category according to the world standard that are really people that are important to god in christ jesus as he identifies with them that the least you do unto one of these you are greater to be that the people who are not of the world but of the world must minister to let me move on let me move on i believe there's a second thing quickly and i call this second thing that there must be considerateness i want to use kindness in ministry so not only should there be awareness of reality but there should be considerateness in ministry know i think about this i remember driving down this morning and everything that grabbed my attention again was something that you all know is that we cannot be all hearers of the word but dwarves of the world in other words you can be aware of the reality that there exists a category of people that we need to minister to but that's where it stops we have to move from awareness to what i call ministering with kindness from knowing what to do to doing what you are supposed to do and one of the things i've found about many of us as baptists i'm a baptist from abundance we can't talk about baptists the born of baptist liver baptism i shall die about this why things i know is about us we're not short on ideas you know we're often short of people who are able people are willing to make sure the ideas become reality i tell you something i'm forgive me and i'm talking about your church you know are you seeing this singer saying is it really a what's it called a parable or whatever you call it no user asks what is room full hull full whole school you can't get a spoonful i used to say to smoke i think it's also church people [Laughter] church full church yard some time unlined full but when it comes to the work you can't get a spoonful there's always a few fearful people what we are called challenge challenge not only to be aware that there's a category of people we call others exploited expanded abuse used that we need to minister to feeling desperate feeling dawned desolated neglected that we need to minister to i thought i should be aware but we must make sure we show them kindness kindness oh i didn't know what to say which i think you know already i believe jesus sometimes studies things and um persons don't recognize that jesus of emphasize the sword shall sin over the sex you have seen that's the opposite church but sometimes you only see that church see sexier sin so you are some person because they're married i have their wife our husband and children and they come across every sunday they interrupt the news and some other people especially the things they are going with certain things and you know we have ourselves a person but you know what the verses of jesus are the social sins we call them oftentimes the sins of omission that's what i call him it's not near but theologians over time have come to call them sins of omission versus sins of commission say you actually command in luke 18 when he went up to the temple to pray the man begins to pray lord i am glad that i'm not like that man what no i mean i foreign [Laughter] i and he said lord of mercy and me a sinner and jesus said he went to a more justified and republican than the scribe was there exalting himself in prayer now we can oftentimes talk about the sins that everybody else is doing so see all these sins committed but we don't see the sins that we are committing by omitting i argued that we don't see the sins that we are committing by omitting watch it now there are tools to go away depart from me and it's not because there are not some things that they were not doing remember if jesus is talking to the scribe and first he's here he's talking to the disciple but never reference this question pharisees remember how this story started in chapter 24 where they were asking what shall be the signs lord where the kingdom shall soon come jesus wanted them to know that the greatest sign of the kingdom is for you to live out the kingdom for you to ring in the kingdom through the things that you do for you to make god's kingdom come even as you pray thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth and in heaven you are the one who is expected to make god's kingdom a reality even now but even though it is coming through jesus it is already here am i feeding the hungry by visiting the prisoner you are making god's kingdom a reality in the world by the things you do as a jesus made sure to help them to understand that there is a time not only for awareness but this awareness must lead to action into action to reach people where they are and show them kindness to let there be considerateness i'll tell you a story then go to the final point and the story has to do with considerateness there was this woman mark to this man and all her friends couldn't figure out why this sweet looking woman like you all oh this sweet looking lady marked this ugly croth that that's all different though you're not attacking walker you know your friends think sometimes your fears are not the guy you attacked with a hand survivor not a good fear sometimes i wonder the woman had one simple answer is very considerate considerate that's very considerate that even as that man was conspirate making him lovely despite what other persons think of his physical appearance that we must look lovely in the sight of god and man because of our considerateness we don't pass people by and no we can help and do our help we don't neglect our neighbors somebody living right beside us and we're not even sure if the eater don't eat well you can throw away plenty to the dog you don't use all your money and buy a champion and uh can i make something anything a year several seven thousand more i'll tell you a true two one time a curious i want to say nfc and i'll throw it with seven thousand times tears are full i thought i was drinking petroleum but you know seriously do you know that yes there are some people even in church we prefer to use ten thousand dollars to buy a battle of expensive liquor and even colon but if your helper ask if you are consistent but they will need you will never give them nothing more careers you're getting the bigger minimum wage and you know them as suffering can't survive when children came because of school well nobody in this church still like that must be talking about some different church but that's just some practical example one of the things when we talk about action we are talking about maybe two things here we are talking about activism and advocacy activism which has to do with doing what you can do to help people to live a better quality life being dear for them that's what jesus was talking about that's what he lived his life during this time of ministry that he went to where people needed help and helped them the sick the suffering the surrounding helped them but all could you not also see that jesus was an advocate for treating people right now not only did he do the right thing but he advocated for others to do the right thing too the church needs to have a greater sense of advocacy we are ever growing our own man to go be and see someone who has a people who are blind our short sight to the near side to the other older persons we'll just fall into you don't just pass it by like everybody else we have our we have we should exercise advocacy go to the right authority talk to them try to negotiate get things done so the quality of people can be improved that's a part of ministering to others that are part of being considerate in ministry let there not only be then an awareness of the reality but considerateness in ministry even as we make what we know a reality in terms of action activism advocacy but finally finally i believe that we're there is awareness of reality the weird deer is consideredness in ministry we are now speaking about realness realness what i call it realness and identity realness and identity i believe brothers and sisters that the world often define people according to their ability our disability world of defined people according to the inability disability oftentimes so we see a man how we are concerned his identity is that he's a blind man he's a crippled man he's a dumb man and sometimes exactly how we define them is how we treat them as let's try to change the word thing then instead of saying um they see of the man they say a man living with disability living with disability that the world has a way of defining people according to its standard but the word of god define people according to our relationship with god that's what the procedure do you know so look at the passage there are two sets of people one certified a sheep the other set defined as goats what i find interesting is that sometimes it is difficult to distinguish between who is sheep and with what god they resemble sometimes and that's why we must leave it to god despite the fact but what you must notice is that everybody must have been in the same congregation singing sankey singing courses reading scripture preaching powerful messages but there came a day when a separation took place and what did jesus use to separate them there was one set that ministered to the people who christ identifies himself with another set who did not minister to the people that christ identifies with it is suggesting to me that your real identity is determined not only by who you say you are but what you do what you do and i suggest to you that what you do speaks to the kind of relationship that you share with god in christ jesus so those were goods that they must have felt that they were doing the right thing writing through serving themselves rather than serving those who guard in christ identify the others they must have served your friends served your own church brothers and sisters serve their own whims and fancies making the church of a time a social club rather than a mission station but that's what a lot of churches have become nowadays that's watched out club if you want to know if i try serious about mission look at the budget sometime how much money is planned to spend on themselves on their building they'll really look nice and they're troubling it and that saying is you well other churches are like that on a serious note take your budget and look at it prayerfully will your members be into your budget and make sure that at the budget you don't have spending more on yourself more you're spending animation and that's church must look beautiful the horse of god must look nice will be careful of imbalance that's the only thing imbalance to make sure the church is not emphasis it does not have a kind of emphasis that make it look more like a social club than a mission station the church must be a mission station i don't even want to look a song let the lord light be burning lord light be burning but as i read this story about a song what is that the lower light of our light also was not working and the captain was trying to get into the shore by the guidance of the upper light because the lights were not working they did not see that there were rocks that he was heading to and the ship wrecked and a man wrote the song after his server let your lower lights be burning while you are looking up to a greater light with god your lower light must be burning i will get me how can you say that you you're watching the upper light when the lower lights are not burning i believe that there needs to be some kind of realignment and this realignment can only come through reassessment but it's time to look back at ourselves to see if we are properly aligned and we know that when vehicle is not properly aligned it can be a dangerous thing let's not travel dangerously let us do some assessment there can be realignment in jesus name amen to what extent are you aware that there is a category of people out there that we need to minister to to what extent are we aware that we have to serve these people to what extent are we aware that we should minister to these people who are not able to give us anything in return is the church for you a social club or a mission center things to think on our him of response today brother sister let me serve you brother
