Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport 1000km review. What's it like living with this 1500bhp hypercar?

well welcome to a new harry's garage video and today's car is very special it is the bugatti chiron per sport and the per sport bit is very important because this is the ultimate driver's version of the shiron if you like they've really played with the chassis on this one to make it turn in quicker there's all sorts of different models as we go around it i want to point out to you and i love the focus of it chiron first appeared in 2016. remarkable to think it's six years since it first appeared at a geneva show and it replaced the veron that arrived at the scenes about 2005 the production start of the bugatti veyron i can remember doing the launch out in sicily and we thought how on earth do you better that the final version of the veron was the tess with 1200 horsepower this one has 1500 horsepower there is a version of chiron with 1600 horsepower but it is longer gear than this one thing that surprised me when i was going through the spec of this car and that is it's speed limited now chiron are speed limited 420 kilometers an hour at the normal speed limit about 261 miles an hour this one it can only do 350 kilometers an hour which is 217 miles an hour so it is the slowest bugatti chariot of them all but there's a whole lot more to this car than just pure speed let's go and have a closer look now one big surprise with this charon is it's not as big a car as you'd expect to be with a 8 liter w16 engine and all this performance you'd think it'd be enormous it's not it's just over 4.5 meters long and a ferrari laferrari is 4.7 meters long for example this per sport is actually slightly longer they listed at 4.647 meters it grows a little diffuser at the back well uh quite a large diffuser out the back and that puts it on par with something like a ferrari f8 so it's more compact than you might think it's low as well when we parked it in the lineup this roof line is super low and the width yes it's two meters wide but as my son pointed out that's the same size as today's land rover defender so it's it's it's an odd car massive in all sorts of details and engine power and size of the wheels etc but the actual overall dimensions are usefully compact for such a crazy car but the look at the front i've always loved to show on the use of these lights at the front these four individual lights either side and they do a real party piece when you blip and open the car they all come come string it on and then when you lock the car they do another little light show as well and i can also say night driving these are the best headlights i've ever sat behind they are incredibly crisp wide and a pure white light on full beam so they really work then obviously the typical horseshoe the bugatti grill there there's a radiator there and it's lent right back like that there's a vents underneath that then vented and through the floor and then these huge intakes here as well quite a lot going on here the extra splitter on here loads of carbon fiber and this look this this is the per sport look with this sort of split of the paintwork here and a massive wing at the back surprise number one the owner very kindly sent me through the price list when he ordered this car and if you want a chiron sport you it's three million euros plus taxes but if you want your personal exterior package you have to pay extra for that 65 000 euros extra and to have this poor per sport split so this beautifully done paintwork i cannot feel a ridge between the pure carbon and the paintwork there all over and on the roof and it goes over the engine cover and then down the side you've got the carbon lower split there on that panel that is 185 000 euros extra yeah quite a lot of money now first sport also gets these different wheels they've tried to shed weight in particular on the unsprung weight so these are magnesium wheels and they have these beautiful carbon fiber vents to drag air out of the wheel well you also have to pay extra to have blue calipers in bugatti blue five thousand euros for those i like the way every single figure seems to be rounded to the nearer nearest thousand or ten thousand euros but i suppose that's how it operates in bugatti land this is a bit suspicious i think for a shear and i'm sure that's a vw part door handle it's very obvious where it is and when you open it you get a lovely light saying chiron persport feel this side on here 100 liter tank lots of intake going on here now when you drive this car always worth just cracking the window open slightly because you hear the cacophony of turbos sucking and blowing and pop-off valves going orvar here it's a glorious sound and i do love this sort of ridge going through it this backbone that the chiron have that come starts at the front goes through the roof and down to the tail when we get to the interior it also comes around the center console it's a beautiful detail also ought to mention the wheels and the tyres on this car the pulse per sport runs michelin cup 2 r tires pretty extreme tyre and again it's all about the handling and if you look at this front has a significant amount of negative camera 2.5 degrees so that means it's leaning in like this and that's for cornering and turning is something i used to do on my race cars normally makes it just slightly unstable in a straight line but it it just fires you towards an apex and i love that this has it front and rear a lot of negative camber on it purely for the sanding oh the owner car asked to have the french flag colours on the side of the wing and bugatti course said certainly sir nine and a half thousand euros to do that but it's a lovely touch come right round the back this monstrous great big diffuser here and then the exhaust here titanium finished exhaust 3d printed they tell me it's a bizarre thing looks like it has a cage around it we have also spotted there's two more exhausts tucked around the back that you can't see in the diffuser and this is a light bar that lights up along here at all times third brake light there and a fixed wing so normally chiron has this wing that does all sorts of things and can help in breaking etcetera this one is fixed has this glorious sort of x shape to it a very dramatic car one thing that i noticed on this car it's worth pointing out is how they've managed to get a lot of weight into the chassis so that is the back end of the engine is about there and this engine is dry sunk so they've got it as low down as fast as they can here i've got an oil filler and an actual dipstick if you ever want to check the oil on your shield there it is and a dipstick like that all very easy the access to this car but yeah they've got the engine right into the chassis here and then like the countach the gearbox is in between the passenger and driver and it means 45 of the weight of this car is on the front axle it's really good that's a very good figure for a mid-engine car and especially one with an eight liter 16-cylinder engine one point's a shock is when you open the door you realize the depth of this seal it goes right in if i put that piece of paper in width of that vent that's coming from that wheel well is huge there's an enormous amount of air coming around here and another lovely detail i noticed on this car which i've never seen on any other car this one has carbon fiber strut for the windscreen wipers here and here who's ever seen carbon fiber struts again a really aggressive line here going down shooting down there vents for the front wheel arch as well there all carbon fiber this car they've tried to get the weight down they claim around a 50 kilo weight saving over a regular chiron but they still put the weight at 1995 kilos it seems a bit high to me that and that weight gain let's say magnesium wheels is part of it and then they got titanium backs for the brakes less weight there i am told and i haven't been able to check it that it also has carbon fiber anti-roll bars which i've never heard of before but all in all the performance of this car the key difference i think between the per sport and a regular chiron is in the gearing because it has much shorter gearing and tighter space gearing increased the rev limit by 200 revs so it revs to 6900 rpm and the performers in gear performance is off the scale so the claimed performance for this car were knocked 100 kilometers an hour 2.3 the most bizarre one to me not to 200 kilometers an hour that's 124 miles an hour 5.5 seconds and not to 300 kilometers now 12.4 seconds i would imagine this thing would hit its top speed of 217 miles an hour in under 20 seconds now i have been very lucky to live with this car for nearly about 10 days now and earlier this week i went on a bit of a trip so you're going to join me outside the house and we'll just see how we get on using this car for a journey up to chester to see an interior and that engine coming out of the contest [Music] right really quite looking forward to today there's uh yeah the plan is to go up to ian tyrrell's workshop see the kuntas engine extracted and take this via the scenic route um is in near chester and that means north wales is on the way and obviously the evo rose i know if you have a quick look at this car it's not it's not the biggest boot i think it's a little bit bigger than the um front patch but i tried to put a tripod in there and it wasn't having that my son charlie's coming with me so there's going to be a lot of room inside but what i actually love about this car is it's dirty when it arrives he just uses this car if you walk around you'll see sort of travel stains on the side of it you never see a chiron dirty if you look on the wing look at those strikes coming off their fuser at the back filthy so as we're going on the road it seems no point actually washing the car until we get back so anyway 200 miles to do through newfound north wales can't wait to get going well first thing you see when you get in this this chiron the personable has everything in black if you look at this center console i just love the way you know it's bare carbon and these controls here not a screen in sight there is screens in the dash but we'll get to those when we when we turn it on the other lovely thing is this wheel when you grip it there's little little bits there that they're metal you just feel they're cold to touch them you know so it's aluminium whatever i mean paddles on there as well it's just the detail you just drink it in start on a button that funny very distinctive sort of spin you get from the um the w2 16 engine now it's got engine fault workshop we'll go into details on that in a moment it is not serious and it's actually i'll explain what happened about that in a moment but it's a it's a non-issue what else the lightness of the doors when you get in as well and i adore this sort of flash of this spaghetti blue if i open that up you see inside the door there's a lovely flash of blue in there as well blue stitching i mean this was obviously specked and this bizarre sort of backbone to the cockpit here the spine this lights up at night as well this is the interior lights interior lights there as well it's just beautiful it's the only way to describe it but i'm nabbing on and i need to get on so yeah nudge across into drive and away you go yeah this is the noisy bit of road and we just had the sound meter on and you won't be surprised that this is quite noisy 81 decibels i think we recorded at 60 miles an hour on that course road but it has got those three five five rear tires and part of the per sport specification is actually stiffer sort of joints of this subframe to the body the actual bushes themselves are much stiffer than a standard if there is such a thing yeah i just thought while we're going slowly that engine light and what that's all about when the owner dropped it off with me a few days ago it came on with him as well and it was it rang them up and it was basically been sitting in traffic too long and shiron doesn't particularly like sitting in traffic much rather to get a move on anyway he cleared it by just running to the constant highest revs in a low gear and after sort of 10 minutes of doing that it cleared i've had it a few days and then a couple of days ago i was just moving it in the castle and it came on again the owner of the car is actually in america at the moment i just pinged him a message to say oh afraid the engine lights come on again where this is where the bugatti ownership goes nuts he's in the states he then just pops a note to the an engineer he knows at the factory and within 20 minutes and this is a saturday evening at about six o'clock bugatti factory have contacted this car they've downloaded var telemetry what the engine has been doing i then get a note back saying it's okay uh bugatti factory have checked all the telemetry it had a slight misfire on cylinder number three it's nothing just joined startup and it's just logged it as a fault do you want us to come and collect the cursor and i said can i drive the cases it's an absolute non-issue it's just logged this one one cylinder one misfire on a revolution i mean there's that level of service on a saturday night to have the factory check your car why the engine lights come on random report back and say everything's fine they've actually recommended during this journey at some point i will just hold it in second at four and a half five thousand rpm for ten minutes and that should clean the plugs so it's just a little quirk of a chiron that hasn't been exercised it likes going quick which is a bit tricky to try really exercising for a sport in particular anyway we're gonna head off to wales i'm gonna shut up now until we're in some better roads [Music] [Music] [Music] when we come up the top it was tedious getting in here did one fill up make sure we could get the 99 octane from so now an hour right up in some of my favorite bits of north wales i have to say i've put it into handling mode and just look at the weight of it you think oh i won't feel very good two tons how can you have a car that handles it two tons in handling mode i'm staring at a trash control off button and the steering has been a since the moment i got in this car the big surprise is how pure and fantastic i get from the steering it feels utterly natural beautifully weighted and you suddenly find you've got this crazy four-wheel drive nonsense car 1500 horsepower that you feel like caning it just feels sort of weirdly on your side i'm sure it isn't if it gets very squirrely that way but just to drive quick on a fun bit of road i mean obviously it puts a proper smile on your face it just feels a privilege to be absolutely honest and it just feels that clever people have made this crazy car lap up a british b road you know told me to take down to the alps and uh he was amazed what it felt like out there good solid pedal once they're hot bad car to pump down a road like this is very strong crazy crazy car we need to crack on we are a bit late for ian tyrrell when he has to take it out there now we need to get there so he needs a couple hours to do it and like but i could stay up here a whole lot longer on roads like this in this car well that was an absolutely amazing drive up to the interiors of the contest but what you don't know is the drive back was even better we left chester around sort of six o'clock in the evening i got to barlow and the roads were deserted and charlie and i just said we're just gonna do the best roads ever so we drove down to ryder in sort of mid wales and it was extraordinary i'll go into detail at the moment but this is my little squirt up the hill i'm just approaching it now and i'm in all normal and let's see what happens this squirt won't take very long in this car it will probably change down it's in fourth here we go there it is just digging down oh now it's off and that's be locked this car is it's well you have to have immense self-control but that that evening drive back down some of those wonderful roads in in mid wales sort of off the beaten track but wide open sweeping going from a conflict calories i say ending up ryder and then coming across to hereford 844 it just showed this car for what it was it's a driver's car and it came through on that and the seats are really good they just hold you right there manual adjustment back there carbon backed and they're just tight and they just feel terrific my relationship the pedals are absolutely in line with the wheel i have this fantastic steering feel and we did around 400 miles that day it was a long day but my god it's memorable probably one of my top five drives ever and i can't believe it was in in the uk i can't believe it was in march and it was just terrific actually decided to come out a bit later in the evening just because you get mobbed in this car the road's quieter so yeah sorry the light's a little low but that's the reasons why trying to do it incognito filming of a chiron that's tricky to test its outer limits legally is just about impossible but i am going to take it down here just my normal little test route this is a bit bumpier down here now this car has 65 stiffer springs at the front 30 in the rear and you would think that would kill the ride quality it is it is tougher riding but it feels very natural and the positives what it offers this car when you turn it in or into a corner just the response and the clarity is worth it it's a great setup for this car so i think this one positive being made two tons it doesn't make the spring sort of so stiff that that is just undrivable this is the road where i took that gt3 down and struggled and even with that a lot of negative in it you see it's tracking absolutely straight this is a heavily cambered bit of road just turn it in there let's just set it straight but it's it's extremely well controlled aerial it's going the other way so yeah you can probably tell it's right and i've got it in normal i have a button down here that allows me to choose between eb sort of standard mode autobahn don't need that here and then there's handling and purse a per sport in handling is really quite something it drops it 25 mil at the front um 10-11 mil at the back makes everything more aggressive i'm going to put it in now you'll hear a ping in a moment yeah it's there we are there's the ping it's even more responsive on the gear box dampers feels slightly stiffer as well it's just this mad 1500 horsepower it's just a car that just you want to pump you want to enjoy here's the compression [Music] that was fantastic didn't grind out i should just drop the windows to this around here and there we are around there i think if you told me it was handling my lotus i believe you but that's generally what it feels sat here i ought to move on to some of my likes and dislikes i feel this this car i think probably my number one dislike with it is the gearbox it always was the the veron's kill his heel it just feels a bit so wicked doesn't have that aggressive change that cars today have you think this gearbox boy first appeared in 2005 and were a long way 20 in 2022 i just thought they'd have a quicker change on it and not quite as absurd i know it's giant cogs and they can't do a lot of work but it doesn't feel the super sports that everything else is tuned up to the gearbox does let it down it does the job and actually you can hold a gear for so long there's very few gear changes you actually need to do so it doesn't annoy that much because you've got so much torque and power to tap into another dislike for the instruments it's got this enormous speedo in the middle that turns into a black hole at night i don't need a 500 kilometer an hour speedo and then i've got a taco little thing around the side there it's a bit like that in the zonder i don't they've got it the wrong way around i put the digital taco up so i can then see what revs i'm doing otherwise you don't really know it's hard to judge what reps the engines have happen well everything else the world is coming at you so fast as well but the egg's just not good and actually with the speed of this thing is one car i would love a heads up display on it brakes are great solid pedal doesn't seem to get phased by the weight and then [Music] another dislike you can't ignore it the amount of attention it gets it's the world stops when it drifts by we went past the school in wales that was the end of lessons just as this went drifted by and um it just means that every time you take it out for a drive you've got to be aware that it will be recorded on phones dash cams spoken about and i had it with a zombie and you have to be you have to really watch it because you we are representing the petrol heads the ultimate petra head sort of car and i feel you have to drive in as responsible as you can the one thing that's good about it have all this attention it's not crazy noisy from the outside there's no noisy exhaust to annoy everyone which is sort of a good thing another nice have this car is it's a glorious engine w16 is described but it's bit like two banks of eight cylinders with a chess cylinder head for each side and two pistons going up and down the sort of a mini v none of it is on show you can't see a thing and i feel it's you can't even see the suspension i want to see those carbon fiber anti-roll bars but it's all completely hidden by this very beautiful bodywork but like a mechanical wash normally has a crystal glass back so you can see from the chemicals i want to see the viral mechanicals and all i've got at the back are the sort of charcoal of the covers of what bugatti want me to see about the engine rather than actual mechanical parts right let's go and talk about some of the likes and there's quite a few like number one is it's not a monster when you look at the spec sheet and yet it's one of the friendliest cars i've ever punted down here if you get in an 8-1-2 they're sort of skittish this you would never describe as skittish [Music] a revel in the field and it comes down to that steering and the fact that it gives you this information you feel it one with this car and it all feels wrong as i'm saying this for a near two ton 1500 horsepower car but generally that's what you feel here they the guys who set this up just have made it for the driver and it gives you content and if you ask me to take this on track i said oh yes please absolutely didn't expect that and it's just the clarity of the controls and the way it turns in and i've driven it now over 600 miles and i've enjoyed every single mile in it the other thing i mean is no getting around you you have to say the power nothing comes the delivery of this power nothing comes close yes there are more you know cars similar that we have the electric cars coming um kearney's egg etc but there is some way i think it's the mass of the car and how it delivers it and it's a bit of a problem really because it's really quite addictive and that's an issue when with this much power this much speed so you have to be extremely self-trained it's a temptation to press the pedal and launch yourself at the horizon is high and you need absolute self-control but when those magic moments you only do it for a second or two it never disappoints and i have driven varrons and for many thousands of miles and now getting into this chiron for sport it's exactly the same completely addictive sort of motoring mad but you would feel exactly the same if you were sitting here these are so good for controlling ventilation heated seats in this car very easy to use less so on the wheel you have these wheel controls for changing the dash readouts and things like that radio and things like that they're not lit at night completely disappeared quite hard to feel what i love about it is it's a unique experience and this class of car i think is beyond comparison you can't say a laferrari is better than this or shiron pure sport is better than that they are these ultimate expressions of motoring of cars and it's bit like art you can't say oh but that particular masterpiece from that artist is better than that masterpiece from that other artist they're beyond judgment i find it's the same with this car and to make this amount of horsepower and have this sort of sounds it's an incredible experience and to live with it for two weeks has been a joy i have no wisdom to ever leave the garage and i cannot believe how well it goes down the road i think again one dislike i forgot to mention because of that negative when you are on it and you hit the brakes hard it does a little bit of wander but the positives of having that negative camber is the way it turns into the corner the way it makes you feel with the feedback it gives i would just happily have that for that slight negative on that so there you go it's it's it's spaghetti by lotus who would have thought and the purse sport not focus on top speed i think has delivered the ultimate of this line of veron and shiron this is it this is the one i want to own i used to love that the test with the open top and the snorkels but on this car i can just yeah just drop the window slightly and then i can get all that enjoy the sounds like
