Breath of the Wild: What if Link SURVIVED the Great Calamity?

princess are you alright take link to the shrine of Resurrection if you don't get him there immediately we are going to lose him forever clear so make haste and go his life is now in your hands that's all well and good princess but instead of putting link in the shrine let's see what would have happened if the events played out differently I reached out to you guys to help me with this video and it's finally time to answer a compelling question what would have happened if link survived the great calamity find out after this obligatory intro this episode is going to have a lot more speculation in it since it is a what-if scenario but one day when I was thinking of a good breath of the wild theory to cover the events of the great calamity were just stuck in my head I mean while link did fall protecting the princess it led to many events which resulted in calamity Gammons eventual downfall and that got me thinking if link never passed out and was not taken to the shrine to recover would they have had an easier time fighting Ganon I thought I would make this more interesting though so I reached out to my viewers to get their take on it as you might have guessed I got a lot of feedback so it's impossible to go over everyone's thoughts in this video but in this video I'll go over some points people made as well as discuss ideas that were repeatedly brought up first of all let's refresh on the requirement made for the scenario the first was that all the four champion still died along with the king of Hyrule Zelda and link also would have been successful in fleeing a Kakariko to speak with EMPA at first I thought they were running to hat no in the cutscene but master work specifically tells us they were heading to the sheikah settlement the last condition was that Zelda had never used her sealing power at fort Hatton though but with that said it doesn't mean she can't use it later on I'm also going to assume that link has around 13 hearts it's obviously unclear how much he would have at this time but considering he obtained the Master Sword in the core forest and it needs at least 13 hearts to get I'm going to settle with that to begin with a poll was posted on my channel page asking you this exact question I wanted to know if Lincoln Zelda would have won or lost against Ganon given these circumstances I got well over 6,000 votes which I am grateful for and the results were interesting as of writing the script almost half of you guessed that they would win against Ganon the other percentage of you either said ginn and would have defeated them or didn't know and these two were pretty close in the voting so which one is it since victory got the most votes does that mean that the hero and princess would still be able to defeat calamity Ganon well after doing my research the answer is a big No in fact with the way everything is set up calamity Ginn and would have annihilated Hyrule without breaking a sweat how do I know give me the next 10 minutes and I'll explain or however law in this video is the biggest problem with a lot of the replies was that the chronological order of events was not taken into account for example many of you said that link could have just teamed up with Robbie and taken down the swarm of guardians with ancient arrows however this weapon had not yet been created until after the great calamity page 385 of masterworks goes further into this saying perhaps forty or fifty years after the day of the great calamity Robbie the lead Guardian researcher created the first weapon that was effective against the mechanical monsters the ancient arrow this alone makes it much harder to argue that Hyrule could fight back against the numerous Guardians rampaging through the land I must say though before I continue that no one should feel bad for their arguments being disproven while some of this can be found in the game a lot of it is in the master works book and I know that not everyone can get their hands on it but since we are on the topic of not having ancient arrows let's look at what else link and zelda don't have access to it will help simplify this whole problem we already know that the ancient arrow was made many years after the great calamity and because it was the first gear crafted that means all other weapons including the armor are off the table the four runes that link obtains on the great plateau more specifically the bombs stasis mag Nice's and Kronus are not on the sheikah slate since the hero has never entered any of these shrines I mean technically they still have the camera room but what would they do with that photo shoot Ganon to death continuing on the sheikah towers are also still buried in the ground meaning that the shrines are still deactivated and finally the ancient songs are not available to the hero considering that Casas mentor looks for them after the events of the great calamity but let's talk about Zelda's sealing power while it's true that she never used it in our scenario is it possible for her to eventually learn it if link had survived to begin with we need to look at when she first used it we know from Casas last song that her love for link was the reason for its activation so you could argue that whether link fell or not she did have access to it now let's look at the order of events if you noticed zelda had used it with the intent to save link after realizing his life was in danger this theoretically means that link doesn't have to be on the verge of death for her to unlock it if in this memory she used the power after link passed out then that would give people the impression that link would actually have to die for it to work with this knowledge we can say that yes it would be theoretically possible for her to unlock it since the only requirements are that she loves him and that links life must be in some sort of danger but not to the point where it has to result in his death but having link survived the great calamity also has another issue with it and that's the fact that he would have never sacrificed his life for Zelda remember that Casas mentor was in love with the princess but got jealous because she loved her appointed night he grew to hate the hero because of this in the original story after witnessing link shield the princess he traveled across Hyrule in search of the Ancients awns to one day give to the hero as a means of atonement this means that in this scenario he would most likely continue to despise the hero and not seek out the ancient songs as a result seven of the shrines within Hyrule would be impossible to complete but what about the Master Sword in this order of events it would never go to the Corrick forest so if link survived he would still have this blade some people brought the fact that if link was not put in the shrine it would remain in a weakened state well I don't necessarily think that's the case in a previous video on the master sword I brought up the possibility that the swords condition mirrored that of the heroes so since link was gravely injured in his fight the Master Sword also had no fight left in it and this idea is made stronger through a part of the ceremonial speech sacred blade is forever bound to the soul of the hero so as long as link recovers there is a good chance of the master sword will do the same because of that link being put in the shrine of resurrection is not required you might think that the availability of Zelda sealing power and Link's Master Sword would make defeating Ganon a lot easier but that couldn't be any further from the truth if they had made it to Kakariko village it would mean the abandonment of fort hat no this was the only line of defense before the village which had only been spared because of Zelda's power destroying most of the Guardians with little defense against the Guardians it would have been swiftly overtaking leading to the inevitable destruction of Hattin o village Kakariko village wouldn't be safe either link would probably only have time to talk with EMPA and heal before the guardians arrived and while the village would be destroyed most of the sheikah would probably survive because of their combat training while many hylians died at hyrule castle Pura and robbie were able to escape alive but these wouldn't be the only settlements to fall on page 398 of masterworks it states of the Guardians invasion halted just before damaged the lands occupied by other races this happened because zelda kept Ganon's power at bay by sealing him inside the castle but since zelda never goes to hyrule castle in the scenario both the divine beasts and guardians would continue their rampage even leading to the destruction of Gerudo town rito village Zoras domain and goron city but out of those four races one would suffer the most in two bantha the Rito would be defenseless against the onslaught of Guardians this is because of a certain section in masterworks that states that Meadow has been circling the skies above Rito village and shooting down anyone who might approach it the villagers can no longer move freely through the sky and must walk to get in or out of the village once the Guardians got to Rito village all of the citizens would be wiped out it would literally caused the extinction of an entire race but there is one issue with this assumption how could the Guardians even get to the village it's highly unlikely that they could cross the bridge as given their weight and they are the only way to get in and out of the village I even circled around and checked myself but all they would have to do is sit by the bridge and wait being trapped in the Rito would eventually run out of resources like food and perish also Guardians do have a ranged attack meaning they could fire lasers from a distance but that isn't the worst of it one of the Guardian types the sky watcher actually moves through the sky and we know that some did end up patrolling the two bantha region as we see some in the present day if those found their way to Rito village it would be all over for them therefore I think it is very possible for the Reno to be wiped out in this made-up scenario meanwhile the Gerudo Zora and gowron's would most likely survive but would have no homes Zoras domain does have a few bridges leading to their settlement but they are a lot sturdier and once the Guardians arrived they could just abandon ship into the water unless there are swimming guardians as well yeah no but that would be pretty cool but throughout all of this only one settlement would remain intact because of the harsher terrain the residents of lowland village would be spared the destruction but this also means that this small fishing village would soon be overpopulated causing a shortage of food in the region it would become too dangerous to travel given the high volume of Guardians but while Link and Zelda would have to stay on the run from Ganon they could still create some weapons to combat the Guardians with the help of pura and Robbie's research that's something that several of you had said in your replies that might work but remember that both pura and Robbie had to return to the castles or take the guidance stones with them this was because Zelda sealed Ganon away making the area once again safe but with Ginn and at Hyrule Castle this would be impossible any research that could be done would come to a complete halt along with the chances at combating the Guardians this brings up a very good point though why does Ganon never leave Hyrule Castle the only few times we see him he is always at that one location the Zelda even has to walk to the castle before she seals him away and in masterworks it states though the role of the champion link played was not known to many the great number of guardians that claim it again and sent in pursuit of the chosen hero shows just how much of a threat calamity Ginn and felt him to be if Ganon felt that threatened by link why didn't he just go after him instead of sending Guardians well my own theory is that he still couldn't leave Hyrule Castle remember that once link woke up from the shrine of resurrection claim it again and began making a physical body to stop the hero well I don't know why he couldn't leave it does seem to be the case it also makes sense as to why he so heavily relies on the sheikah tech to do his dirty work while this does increase Zelda and Link's chances of surviving as long as the Guardians and divine beasts are corrupt it will still end in failure let's talk about the divine beasts though because as a bunch of you said with Zelda and Lynx combined power it should be easier to free them theoretically they could then have a chance at defeating Ganon plus link would obtain the champion abilities which would be a huge help to them first of all we need to look at how each one is boarded the only one that actually requires a champion ability is red Anya at first this might sound like it's impossible since the ruk the one goron with the ability was killed by fire blight but the fact that he was you know Beau's grandfather means that the divine beast could still be boarded this is because the rooks protection is passed down by the family bloodline so while you know bow is not alive at this time Jarek could have a goron son that has this ability because of this it would be very possible for Roode Anya to be boarded the next one divine beast vanna boris is also a yes while it was piloted by her Bosa her power was never required to board it the only thing needed was the Thunder helm and item worn by the Chiefs of the Gerudo so as long as there was a chief to take her BOCES position link could retake Vanna Boris at any time this also would be way before the Yaga stole the Thunder helm so that means no Boris gets a pass the other two are kind of different however both ruda and meadow had been taken down without the need of any champion powers link Roton teba Arita warrior to fight meadow a lawn with side on me FFA's brother to retake Ruta so theoretically in the scenario any Rito or Zora would work right not really as I had stated previously although Rito would have probably been wiped out by Ganon's attack and since they are the only race that can fly that means that it is impossible to retake divine beast of a meadow this would be an even bigger blow to the hero since it would prevent him from learning the very useful power known as Rivoli's Gale this is a divine beast of a med know now on to route out since the Zora have a long lifespan some of you suggested that Sidon could help but looking at a memory within the champions valid that would be impossible given his size and age so you might think that link could just go with any adults aura but this is where things get complicated you see the reason many of the elders hated link was because they blamed him for me his death this means that at the time of the great calamity the only ones that could help him with Rua despised him and while the Zora Cain knows it was not his fault he has never forced his subjects to do anything in fact when muzu refuses to help link Dora fan never orders him to so it is unknown if any of the adults would help link with Ruta divine beast Virata is neither a yes or no but you know what there still are the shrines that can be done in fact a lot of you guys brought up the fact that link could just complete a bunch of shrines and get stronger that way and yeah you are completely right about that so while I've gone over all the reasons why they would fail let's give him the best scenario possible let's say that link was able to access all the shrines in Hyrule as well as board all the divine beasts with that being the best scenario can we say that it is plausible the answer to that is no through this entire discussion there is one thing I have conveniently forgotten to bring up and that is the sheikah runes located on the great plateau you're probably thinking why is this a problem there's nothing stopping him from getting them and you would be right except for one thing before the great calamity no one knew the existence of them if link entered the divine beasts or shrines it would be physically impossible to proceed because of the lack of proper runes while some shrines don't need runes to complete most of the ones located within Hyrule do and to prove that no one had knowledge of the runes look no further than the Hat no ancient tech lab where Pyrrha herself says that the discovery of other runes happened after link was taken to the shrine and like I stated before the research would have been halted because Ganon would still be rampaging along with guardians in the castle so despite zelda stealing power and links Master Sword ultimately Hyrule would be at the mercy of calamity Ganon now even then you could argue that link and zelda might stumble across the shrines on the plateau through dumb luck and get the runes but remember that all the shrines could not be entered until the great plateau tower was activated but once again it's impossible since no one had known where the tower was located some people are going to say that statement is false since zelda had guided link to the tower when he woke up and that is true but zelda had never spoken of the towers in her research notes plus this argument is made stronger since she never implies that the towers are needed to activate the shrines she even tries to enter one herself but is unsuccessful and there was no time for her to find it by coincidence after link fell since she never went to the great plateau and to further prove that no one could have known about the plateau tower all we need to do is look at page 405 of masterworks knowledge of the towers had been lost a time and they were not discovered in the excavation a portion of the great plateau tower was exposed when calamity Ganon revived and the earth shook the great plateau tower was hidden in the ground until Ganon returned this means that Zelda had no way of knowing about the tower because of this the only time she could have found out was after she finally used her sealing power I talked about this idea in a previous theory video the idea that she was able to create a plan to stop Ganon specifically because her power was finally unlocked it's kind of hard to explain here so make sure to watch that video while it might sound hard to believe it is the only way she could have known about the towers location but we already talked about how her power could still develop if link did survive the calamity and that would mean that like before she would know of the towers existence the problem is at this point it would be too late the destruction of Hyrule would already have spread to the entire land so even if link trained in the shrines there would be too many Guardians roaming around and remember they had no weapons to use against them and I highly doubt that Zelda could just use her opie power an infinite amount of times if that was the case the cannons story would have been a lot different but the last nail in the coffin is this very shortly after link was put in the shrine the entrance to the great plateau was destroyed preventing anyone from entering or leaving so link would not even be able to reach the tower he could use her volleys Gale to scale the walls but like we said before taking back meadow would have been impossible link would be unable to enter any of the shrines as well as have no access to the runes not even the divine beasts could be reclaimed if anything the hero and princess would be on the run for the rest of their lives until they eventually died it's kind of ironic when you think about it in order to defeat calamity Ganon link had to be defeated himself thanks for watching today's Theory video I appreciate everyone who contributed to it
