[Music] thank you [Music] what's up guys welcome back to the channel we're over at tkm performance in Denton North Carolina right outside of Charlotte I've done a video on this one before he gave us a tour that was probably a few months ago go check out that video here this is a full tour of the facility that was pretty cool and so he worked on my stuff let me show you what he's got done on mine today what's up Kevin how are you good good he met me out here on a Saturday morning early he had to go do some racing last night and he's a couple hours away from me but they've been working on uh my stuff y'all saw that I messed it up and so uh they they did some Top Fuel hoops and a roller thrust in this Kevin is the only one that I know uh that does the Top Fuel Hoops talk to us about the Top Fuel Hoops real fast if you don't mind well who's you know we started doing it a few years now and uh we didn't come up with our damn truthfully you know I used to race a lot of Handy stuff right it works the world right and um I'm like you know before we were just using you know uh a traditional o-ring a copper gasket and whatnot for your big Power stuff I was doing a valve job on something that kicked the head gasket out and I'm like I'm looking at it you know and I'm cutting a valve job on you know we really need Hoops in this and I think it was a big one turbo or something like that right and I'm like I need to do that and this thing I know it's like well we put the wheels in motion and basically we just took the technology say Brad Anderson or AJ or any of them guys was going and we put it in you know other platforms you know small blocks big block you know your regular commercial Big Blocks I mean we're doing them all and we're doing them here in-house you know this is a um this is a five inch more space motor hoop this one here this little cute guy is actually Yamaha um these guys we're doing Hoops for anybody pushing the hell out of the right because back in the day the ultimate head gasket retention was o-ring yeah and then I remember people went to uh o-ring with a receiver Groove which is what I had here and then people went to a double o-ring and so now the next ultimate this is the ultimate head gasket retention because you said like you said it started off in hemis in Top Fuel and so that was only applicable in Hemi stuff well the difference you know the biggest difference in this is just clamping order with a solid hoop instead of an O-ring wire well that's it it's solid you know with a wire you know when you're when you're putting a wire in it works on your own but with a wire you still have a Gap a break in in the actual wire the hoop you're trying to make right it's not solid right and it and when you're doing a wire like that typically a o41 wire is what people use and you can only hang it out of your surface typically about 14 or 15 000 so if you try to hang it out more than that it'll it just won't stay in you know you super glue it in or whatever right it just don't do good the extra effort with that would be a hoop and then with this hoop I mean you can really hang that thing out and it'll bite down in that gasket how far does it stick out here we've set these up to hang out about thirty thousand um like I said with the with the judicial o-ring wire you can only do roughly about 14. if you get more than 14 the the wire won't stay in there very well right and then this guy here is going to lock down in the receiver group we got here cutting your sleeve um if you'll notice the deck surface I think you had sewer number eight I think it was down on the road and we see this a lot it's time to time these sleeves will actually sink a little bit right that's I didn't realize that especially I guess with an aluminum block because it gets hot and that's what that was the cylinder that was leaking for me back there in the back yeah it was down and then what we do any anytime well anytime we have the issue in here or actually even we don't have issue a brand new block we'll seat the sleeves first right when we seat the sleeves we measure the difference hey did this thing go down anywhere you notice that this sleeve actually started out down right and then we was actually able to push it down there a little bit more all right um then we go back and skim the deck Square everything up and then you notice this cut here you're like why is your neck so funny looking well honestly what that is is what we call Profile deck and we're gonna we use the End Mill to go in here and we Trace around the sleeves and we do that for thermal expansion you know the aluminum is going to grow faster than the steel from heat it's almost expansion right what we're doing is if this outruns this you know technically it's pulling away from our clamp clamping tool right so we're giving a head start of the iron so it don't you know store any plant load that makes sense and this looks like it is rough guys but it is not that looks like it has like texture but there is nothing there that's just where the End Mill just spins through and so and you can barely feel that's like you said you can barely feel it sticking up and that's what I think in the like the diesel world like the diesel big engines they leave that deck protrusion sticking up like that as well and it makes sense I mean there's some guys stick their stuff out more than that I'm not saying it's wrong the only downside of this you got potential for water leaks and things like that or more potential right you know if you if you think about it you have you know your iron is up higher than your lungs therefore technically you got to get there of course you're right I guess it's gonna take up the slack and use how I'm on what not right just seal the water pretty much your your hoop is filling your combustion right and then you have to use Palomar glue silicone whatever to seal your water up and with the Top Fuel Hoops it's 100 a copperhead gasket operation that that's the only way because if you try to use the MLS or something just and I know 100 and if you look back to some of them in our older videos messing with Randy's car when we try to pull the heads off you almost have to pry the heads off that thing yeah right right it is a it is amazing how hard it is to get it apart which when you're trying to seal combustion when you're trying to seal that compression I mean that's what you got that's what you gotta have I mean that's what the Top Fuel Hoops that is the ultimate head gasket retention that's right that's right that's that's exactly right that's why they're Top Fuel hoops um now you also have something else you offer is called a Mini Hoop we do um pretty much it's the same technology it's sort of scaled down from that looking at the mini hoop versus the Top Fuel hoop really the difference is the amount of thickness here right um and what we do is we'll cut a ring similar to this we'll put it in it sticks out nowhere near as much it ain't you can't hang it out that far right but you can still use the MLS gasket still run water still no problems right and to me it's still better than a traditional o-ring because it has it don't have a gap there's no Gap and that's one of the things I know when I when I put O-rings in the O-ring wire I suck at it I like I suck at it bad and uh you know it's just one of those things it's hard it takes technique and I always you always have a little bit of Gap there well yeah and trust me and there's some instances we do in here right what are you doing you're like thank you guys damn it ain't good yeah let's start over again and that's why on my old block my old iron block it actually had they weren't individual I had to do a figure eight on it because they were so close and that clearly didn't seal quite as good as what this was um and now I am going to be using water on this so I'm going to use halamar so I'm gonna try to make it seal the best I can um you know and that's copper gaskets copper gaskets with water I mean they sometimes leak and but we're trying to seal combustion here and if it starts leaking water then you know that's one of those things we'll we'll put some um some copper stuff in the radiator if you're trying to seal it that way too well the downside of the Hoops is all this plant work now when you go to torque this thing goes right several times right that's one thing that I have personally seen you know we'll do machine work going for guys gonna take it you're like man this thing's leaking with water I'm like all right well you know bring it back let's see if we can find out and then when we when we get it back you know as long as everything is lined up your Hoops your your head will lay on here it goes in the groove there's no alignment issue remember the only thing holding the water in is literally the glue you put on here on your gas that's right so it's not it's not like it sounds like it's a huge deal but honestly it's it's not I mean it works great um one thing about it though especially small block sure voice seems to be the worst the 7 16 hits the truth blue right you know you can only talk down 75 yep 75 80. oh you really got to go over your torque and it's not a bad idea to to retort or any Copperhead gasket for a little bit of time all right Cycles or whatever but definitely the small block Chevrolet big Block's even worse and it's Jerusalem is because the studs are so much longer oh gotcha they um the stud's been longer it just makes them want to stretch or give up a little sooner than say you know if you do a half inch headset on your LS or whatever man almost they're almost they almost never come off right well cornbread and tape you know and I'm using them with example symbols because low cornbread works here and I'm with them almost every time the race track right and they put three LS motor we doing for them I bet it was 130 140 passes on it I mean just beat this thing at this no issues no issues and then all of a sudden boom we got a head gasket right you know everybody's just kind of looking around ain't nothing to do but fix it well truthfully what happened was before we hook it apart the guys went over and checked the torque on the other head and sure enough oh gotcha so that's what happened it simply lost clamp to keep your gasket out yeah but my point is you know after so long you might want to retort right and that's something that a lot of I mean a lot of people don't like doing that because you got to take the headers off of it you got to take the rock arms off but that's that's part of a race car life right that's it that's right that's exactly right so what I'll tell people is try to get to Sure surely you can get to Exploder food without taking anything off right put it on there and see the move get the moves hey very quick right go ahead and quit before it quits for you that's right so this is the top field Hoops uh it is freaking it is his wild looking um I can't even imagine how hard it is to get these things out when you have to like resurface the ends I mean I'm sure it's a challenge well honestly a lot of times I'll literally just take my TIG water and take a little piece to it and pop it up really you're aluminum that's right I know Randy's we don't unless we screw up ahead or something we don't have to that's not something that you have to maintenance on I mean you just change gaskets if you need to pull it apart put new gaskets on it and then you're set yeah don't don't you have a problem itself right I mean that's really really don't happen and so they can Top Fuel to any head so any type of head column uh the whole process they can get you set up we do a lot of 350Z I mean I got you everything right it's funny because somebody was watching the John doc video right and they called the shop the next day or whatever was like hey man I got a Yamaha that I'm I mean this thing to make like 600 horsepower wow I'm blowing he gets it's like crazy right like can you hoop it I'm like sit in here we'll take a look at it right here we go there you go now everybody's getting it the Top Fuel hoop the World and he this guy was like man you want her fan he said that was what made the difference of us being able to push keep keep our program alive right and no I'm wrong you can still hurt your motor we got hooped no doubt about it you ain't blowing the head gasket usually usually usually feel safe 100 right if you tear this up though you've probably got some real stuff going on right I know you know a lot of times uh we used to joke around with the small block forward the head gasket was a fuse yeah and so we'd rather blow the fused and replace the Piston but you know now in this life I mean now the head gasket is the weak link before weaving it close to the Piston because you know you're making so much power now everything you know racing is involved so much over the past several years especially you know everything is getting bigger stronger bigger I mean the ballpoints in these murderers now is like crazy heavy but you got to make the part strong up the handle all this 50 pounds of 260 whatever that's right that's right I mean my motor this this thing when I'm on the scramble button it's 46 Pounds right now and that's not enough I mean you know so it's just I mean it's crazy it is insane so we feel like the import world back in the day when they used to hear the import Racers talk about we're going to throw 50 60 pounds and I remember when high boost was 14 pounds boost that was the high boost I remember 30 pounds of boots like man we're really doing right that's right 30 pounds that is insane all right guys well y'all check it out go hit them up Kevin Mullins and his team tkm performance they can hook you up man the ultimate gasket retention Top Fuel Hoops appreciate it Kevin thank you all right [Music]
