Here commences my favorite album of all time. And this is the perfect song to kick it off. Their best opener in my opinion, that fade in to the opening riff is perfect. So thrashy. And the bridge riff is so underrated.
Yeah, boi, Justice time. This song introduces the album really well, starting with a cool reversed intro that dives straight into the main riff. It keeps the spirit of the previous two melodic openings of RtL and MoP, but simultaneously diverges from both.
The main riff perfectly demonstrates the album’s use of technically complex, yet unforgettable riffs. Once you hear Blackened’s riff, it never leaves your head.
The choruses used to be my favorite parts of the song. They aren’t now, but I love the double bass after the first chorus. It just sounds so brutal. Like, that’s a common theme throughout this song. It sounds really desolate and brutal and unforgiving.
I don’t like the bridge riff when it begins, but when the drums and vocals and all come in, they do so much good stuff with it. I love the “see our mother die” part with the drum fill.
There’s a cool harmony part right after leading into the solo that KIRK DOESN’T PLAY THE COOLEST PART OF DURING LIVE PERFORMACES >:(. Then there’s a faster solo that’s kinda cool.
After the solo, there’s a return to the main riff where the drums do some weird stuff and I love it. I can’t wait to play it live when I’m an accomplished drummer.
Then the song ends. Cool/10. Pretty good opener.
That intro tho. I like the discordant main riff, but my favorite part of the song is the slower part in the middle. It's much heavier and James's vocals are really good in that part. Great opener for a great album, 9/10.
That riff kills peoples picking hands in their sleep. It killed mine, you should watchout.
Greatest song of all time. It just doesn’t get any better than Blackened.
The intro is amazing, backwards and forwards. The main riff is insane, potentially the only one more difficult to downpick than Puppets. The breakdown section is fantastic as well, and culminates in one of Kirk’s greatest and most dynamic solos. The lyrics are brilliant, the riffs are brilliant, the drumming is brilliant. It’s all amazing.
Favorite song from Metallica. Best drums, best riff, best intro, cool guitar solo, what more could you ask for?
