BIOHAZARD | Romhack Competition 2021 | Part 1

this is the very very very long awaited e-weighted super metroid rom hack contest we started this like seven months ago and there was nine entries the prize pool got up to uh prize pool got up to what five grand so far the way it's going to work if you haven't seen is um first place i'm gonna pick first and second place and then third place is going to be picked by the community so you guys will be voting um as we go along and whatever is you know third because obviously i'm gonna i'm gonna have the final say of what i think the you know one and two is um so then it's gonna go first place is 50 second place is 25 and then community pick is 25 and then i believe uh chad has um a poll for you guys that we're going to be using for the community scoring is it forced to be different from one and two i think so yes because i don't want if there's like one hack that's just awesome and you guys are like oh my god i love it obviously i'm gonna be picking that hack as well i don't want 75 percent to be paid out to someone when like there's a lot of hacks there's a lot of like really you know people worked hard all right people worked really hard on these hacks and i don't want to like force only two people to win money when the third person was like hey i could have won like it was good it just wasn't quite you know another another thing i am scoring in private the reason i'm scoring in private is because i don't want to make a spectacle of how i think a hack looks and i don't want to create any bias for you guys with the community pick and i i don't want to make anyone feel bad right um i'm going to be fair and i'm going to critique fairly i organized this in a random fashion so i just randomly picked biohazard to be my first hack um and i think it's gonna be a good one uh one more thing to note is the scoring is going to be weighted so the theme will have a different weight the creativity will have a different weight the flow the sound design and fun are weighted differently now you're not going to see how i'm doing any of this because like i said it's all going to be in private but well let's get started okay so the story that was along with the actual hack itself is space pirates have leaked a deadly and unforgiving virus onto the minor planet dysnomia so let's uh let's get started how do i move again where's my analog stick all right keys all right instead of reserve tanks we have keys yes this is the first hack is this too loud missiles [Music] i think that's it for this all right i'm glad i went the right way i was a little bit worried that like i'm just completely going out of the way the respin there is respect i don't think i'm too worried about trying to see if i can continue there so [Music] let me uh let me do something just to uh remind everyone though the theme that i gave the exact theme that i gave was on inhabitable planet all right just to just to remind everyone um and i am grading on theme as well so okay yeah i saw that you guys are in the discord um this hack okay right off the bat this hack is awesome okay i knew this was gonna be great first of all the authors are are great authors and um right away like with the music i was pretty excited to see like a custom soundtrack where's that noise they dropping bombs now that's creative you you gave uh you gave waivers the ability to drop bombs that's cool but not not every waiver only a specific type [Music] yes of course korean drones man i miss super metroid i'm not gonna feels so good i still got it baby yeah no note the working map that's always good all right let's just see kind of like what the layout of the map is so far so if i go here am i going to wrap back around i wonder let's just keep uh i did a lot all right the font is a little bit hard to read i don't know if that's just on my screen it might be easier on the i think it's just on my screen because the contrast is slightly high on my pvm it's way easier to read for you guys for sure not a big deal though um is this just gonna bring me back to the intro no this is okay to the right of that missile pack i like the font style though it's neat i use the um let's just save kind of like design in the past so i assume you did a lot of that music very cool so far all right so let's is this gonna be a save or something because this i feel like doors obviously that are unbreakable with like a missile will be progress but i don't know we'll see it could also just be the design of the hack we've already just come from the uh the north okay so i need more honey bombs yeah i wanted to so let's take a look at where we've been uh maybe i can go left down i don't think i can go right i feel like i need um bombs first i don't know what these abilities are capable of doing quite yet but specify one to three hours um i won't really penalize or i won't i won't be too mad unless it's like a 12-hour hack or some [ __ ] i'm not like i would be mad but i don't think that would stay true to what i asked about uh and granted i am going to take into consideration if i play it like a uh complete [ __ ] so if i'm like you know talking to chat having a good time or talking about stuff or if i like get a little sidetracked because i'm [ __ ] squirrel brains um i will take that into consideration i'm not going to like penalize people for my stupidity [Music] that means means the plant is inhabitable oh it's that's a disqualifier you mean habitable also liquid uh liquid death i don't think i saw that thanks for the tier three for 30 uh four months also um a sub goal new sub goal um at uh 3 000 subs i think i'm going to do other m 100 just to branch out and play other metroid games so a little reminder i forgot to make a uh thing for that today uh weird butts thanks for the six months right supers which i cannot get how many subs uh some points i'm at uh 25 33 by torture yourself not that much torture as long as you don't watch the cutscenes which we're going to watch i i have talked about doing a uh dub goal for uh lion king as well all right so so far [Music] um the starting area is quite large um but i'm curious to see how this is going to transition the room looks the same i assume this is just like the first area at least i'm hoping because i i will say that even though yes it is just one this is like i would assume this is like one just zone you know like a space station or something like when you first enter but um yeah we're about to hit a different area for sure um everything like all the assets in the yeah there's a new area for sure all the assets and everything are very creative they look good now this is taking this is a lot of the um this is norfair assets [Music] okay i want to make sure that [Music] i want to make sure that there's no save over here i would hate to lose all this progress [Music] my anxiety is rising must find a safe station [Music] my full it's so hard to see so that means that that means it's full that looks like it's um because it's like dark you know i figured that would just be empty but [Music] kind of afraid that just did a lot of damage dude [Music] now [Music] i'm kind of just desperately trying to saving a lot of my critiques or when i grade everything like personally in private oh fast um for a couple of reasons so one i don't want to buy the chat when they do com their community picks and then when they vote um two i don't want anyone to feel like i'm passion on them it's a lot of hard work and i am really honestly grateful that uh even nine people finished i mean it's hard work okay we're not doing that i know we'll get to the banger yeah exactly and i want this i wanted this to be a like a fun experience to get people into rom hacking as well granted we started this before dread came out but dread is already kind of i mean not it's not already like gone or whatever like done for but um you know the hype for dread is a little bit weaned off by now for sure okay i don't know if i no i love dread it's a [ __ ] awesome speed game and i'm going to be built speed gaming with dread for a while hmm next hack zero out of ten [Laughter] oh all right oh no did we find a bug oh no bugs happen i'm not gonna be too harsh on bugs and i've already said this well since we're here let's just explore a little bit i don't have bombs so i need to go get that again give me some music maybe it's a feature maybe it's not a bug wait did i just keep going this way is this fine missiles [Music] no problem i mean that would be that would be a badass feature if that was part of the game i know we're relatively close oh god okay um yes the devs are here up from here i don't have bombs keeping mines can i do this and i always i can always reset if i get soft locked is this going to is am critiquing based off of that it is weighted um kind of like medium though for example medium to higher weighted critique but i gotta play the entirety of a hack before i just say something you know it's a very it's a very common trick in super metroid if you're not familiar don't encourage okay the the creators of these hacks understand how annoying i am when i'm trying to like do something or like secretly all right oh hi is this going to go up i'm worried that i needed bombs or that i need bombs hey thanks for continuing your sub they're linked to the rom hacks i'm not sure how they're going to be released i'm sure they'll be on um uh metroid construction at some point soon if they're not already i don't know um i wonder it'd be cool to have like the winner you know how you guys do the winner um like winner of the this hack contest or winner of this that'd be cool if like metro construction did that as well now it's completely based off of my opinion so like i'm not like the perfect critique for these things but um i have a good idea at least okay cool i was i was hoping that was the case yeah but i know like you know they clearly do whatever they want all right so is uh so far this is pretty great i'm gonna try to reserve most of my opinions for like the scoring that i'm doing in private but uh i just don't want you guys to be biased when you select um the rom hacks for the third place the community pick yeah it was um i don't know it was uh definitely harder for the people making the rom hacks it's pretty easy for me just to say all right i'm gonna put some money into a prize pool but i'm glad that we at least got nine um what we'll do is have the community vote then you'll give your critiques after okay that sounds good i kind of want a little bit of time to think about my critiques though so like i want to like actually sit down without the chat like whispering in my ear so and i want to do it just i'll give a small critique but i'm not going to do scoring like the scoring i want to like sit down off stream and do it to the best of my ability like think about everything about the hack um but i just wanted to be fair and i want to have the same mindset for every single like scoring that i do for each hack where you said the bribe mommy money oh it's the same as my uh standard there is no private money i don't want to save there because the last time we saved there sent us to the water area [Music] are you scoring with another romhack as a set standard for quality no um it is all the standard that i've built up over uh a lot of rom hacks that i've played jesus i could not go in the hole all right bombs [Music] i played quite a few rom hacks i understand kind of like what's good what's bad um i mean and it's a lot of it is
